WWF Superstars of Wrestling 2/8/1992

WWF Superstars of Wrestling 2/8/1992

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/03/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-211992.html

We are in Daytona Beach, Florida. Mr. Perfect and Vince McMahon are our hosts.

Perfect says Hulk will be on a long hard road when he has to wrestle Ric Flair.

The Natural Disasters vs Bob Avery and Raymond Hammer

Quake clubs Ray and sends him into the corner. Quake hits a belly to belly suplex then elbow drops Ray's back. Typhoon abuses Ray on the ropes then hits a corner lariat that drops Ray. Ray is held for a Typh butt drop on the back. Typh hits a corner lariat on Ray then corner splashes him. Quake then splashes Typh's back in the corner while he's on Ray. Bob comes in to help and takes a double shoulderblock.

Quake powerslams Ray then butt drops him. Typh then hits a big splash and pins Ray.

Thoughts: It was all squash here with Ray taking tons of splashes and weight based attacks. The jobbers got nothing in.

WWF Update

Mean Gene talks Wrestlemania VIII with Hogan vs Flair as the scheduled main event. Gene says on Saturday Night's Main Event this week, it's Roddy Piper vs The Mountie. He says Bret Hart challenged the winner of this to an IC Title match at Wrestlemania VIII. SNME will have Hulk Hogan and Sid Justice vs Ric Flair and The Undertaker. Gene says there will be turmoil due to Sid not being chosen for the WMVIII title shot.

Sid Justice does a promo. He says he apologizes if anyone took what he said the wrong way and sincerely apologizes to Hulk Hogan.

Virgil vs Kato

They lock up. Virg rolls him up. Kato back elbows him and chops him. Kato misses an elbow drop and Virg shoulders him over. Virg blocks a hitposs and does a backslide on Kato for 2. Kato hits a boot and a chop.

Virg sunset flips him off a back body drop attempt for 2. The Repo Man does an inset promo. he says he heard Virg is upset with him. He likes it as he says there's one more thing he needs to repossess - Virg's career.

Kato hits gut shots in the corner on Virg. Virg atomic drops Kato then hits lariats. Kato throws out Virg. Kato suplexes Virg in for 2. Virg mounts a comeback with punches and drops Kato. Kato begs off and has his head banged off the buckles.

Virg goes up and over then puts Kato in the million dollar dream. Kato is out and Virg wins.

Thoughts: It was nice to see a competitive match for a change but it didn't exactly help out Virg much. This was fine and almost good compared to the usual offerings on this show.

WWF Event Center

Ric Flair, Perfect, Paul Bearer and The Undertaker do a promo. Flair says Roddy Piper will be in his in their upcoming house show match and says Hulk has to meet Taker straight up. Taker says Hulk won't make it to Mania.

Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper do a promo. Hulk says everything is subject to change. He says you can always depend on Roddy Piper though. He says they gotta find something out. Piper says they have been going to war for a long time. Piper says they need guys who can drag people like Taker on the mat and pull his lungs out.

Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs D.D. Russell

Jake backs up DD in the corner and hits back elbows. Jake throws DD out then slams him on the floor. Jake hits a short arm clothesline inside and Vince says DD doesn't know how to pick tights as he is wearing ugly tights. The fans want a ddt but Jake pushes DD away. Jake then hits a ddt on DD and wins.

Thoughts: It was all squash here with Jake winning with ease. Perfect pretty much defended Macho the whole match here saying you have to do something when someone puts their hands on your woman.

WWF Event Center

Sean Mooney says tonight's SNMME could lay the framework for Mania. Sean hypes up the 2/24/92 Worcester Centrum show.

The Nasty Boys and Jimmy Hart do a promo on The Legion of Doom. Saggs says they are coming out with the tag titles around their waists in their match. Knobbs says The LOD thought they were done with them but they popped back up in their face. Knobbs says they are going down.

The Legion of Doom do a promo. Animal says The Nasty's have one last shot at them. Animal says they will wrestle anyone at any time and says to get ready to get your butts kicked. Hawk says he remembers the smell in The Nasty's trunks and says to take care of that business. Hawk says they are done.

We get a promo for tonight's SNME.

Sgt. Slaughter and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs Bill Badd and Jim James

The jobbers hit the faces from behind. Jim and Sarge fire back though and get the edge. The jobbers are sent into each other. Bill takes a double lariat, as does Jim. Sarge hits a clothesline on Bill.

Sarge hits knees to the gut of Jim then short arm clotheslines him. Jim takes a 3 point stance lariat from Duggan and is pinned. Duggan then cheapshot lariats Jim after the match for no reason.

Thoughts:
It was all squash here with the faces winning as expected. I didn't like Duggan lariating the jobber after the match.

Mr. Perfect head to The Funeral Parlor.

The Funeral Parlor

Paul says Ric Flair is his guest accompanied by Mr. Perfect. Paul says the whole world will see Flair team with Taker against Hulk and Sid tonight. Perfect said he heard Sid apologize to Hulk. Perfect says they may have made up and become friends. He says it doesn't matter as destruction will hit them at tonight's SNME.

Flair talks about tonight's match. He says there's only one SNME and it has the four greatest stars walking the aisle today. He says Sid is awesome but more powerful than his man. He says Hulk has the bitter taste of defeat on his tongue. Flair says his opponents can really walk that aisle.

Thoughts: I think Flair busted his own mouth open here somehow.

We get some clips of past Mania's.

Papa Shango vs Dale Wolfe

This is Papa Shango's Superstars debut. Papa comes out with the smoking skull and his voodoo stick. Vince asks if Perfect knocks about voodoo. Perfect says he knows something about everything.

Papa boots and clubs on Dale. Papa pulls his chin on the ropes then backbreakers him. Jamison is watching this in the front row. Papa shoulderbreakers Dale then pins him.

Thoughts:
It was short and not particularly impressive.

We get a Hulk Hogan Right Guard deodorant ad. He's painting at the beach and says a true artist should be remembered for his inspiration, not perspiration.

The Mountie vs Mike Casey

Mountie clubs on Mike's back then flying back elbows him. Mountie hits a shot to the jaw and bangs Mike's head off the buckles. Mike is thrown over the top and takes a quick bump for it. Roddy Piper does an inset promo. He says he will mount Mountie. He says he could put a sandwich on his back and Mountie will still starve. Piper says he's too legit to quit.

Mountie chokes Mike on the ropes then hits a dropkick. Mountie then pins him by kneeling on him.

Thoughts:
It was another short squash. I liked Mountie's dropkick.

Mountie shocks Mike with his shock stick after.

WWF Event Center

Sean hypes up the 2/29 Worcester show. Ted Dibiase and Sensational Sherri do a promo. Ted asks if she can believe that Tito wants him. They say time is money. Ted says he can't afford to waste time when talking about money. He says he beat him within an inch of his life last time and says tonight is the last time.

The Big Boss Man does a promo on The Repo Man. Boss says Repo stole from him and he is now on Boss Man's most wanted list. He says Repo must answer to him and find out what hard time is all about.

Thoughts: The Ted/Sherri promo was really weird since Sherri professed her love for Shawn Michaels last time yet was hugging Ted here.

Vince hypes up next week's show with Shawn Michaels in singles action. He also talks about tonight's SNME.

The Undertaker and Paul Bearer talk. Paul says we will see Sid/Hulk vs Taker/Flair tonight. Paul says no one is immortal and there's no justice in death. Taker says Sid stands beside a marked man and will fall.

Hulk Hogan says Sid didn't understand the power of Hulk but has his respect after he apologized. He says they will wipe the floor with Paul and Taker and ask what you will do when they lay some heavy duty justice on you.

Overall thoughts: Papa Shango debuted here and it was the only real thing of note aside from Flair/Hulk being officially announced for Wrestlemania. This was all squashes and all build for Saturday Night's Main event, which takes place on the same day as this. We got one competitive match from Virgil and Kato here but they aren't exactly the highest on the pecking order. I wouldn't really recommend this one as it was the usual squash heavy show and wouldn't be that entertaining for most people.
