Ring of Honor TV 11/23/2013
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/03/ring-of-honor-tv-11162013.html
We see clips from last week's show. Tonight's main is Eddie Edwards vs Jay Lethal. Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino are on commentary.
ROH TV Title - Matt Taven (c) Zack Gowen
Matt has Truth Martini and Scarlett Bordeaux with him. Truth Martini talks to him on the mic. Truth tells Zack he doesn't have a shot and says the people are stupid if they believe in him. He says the only thing that Zack has better than Matt is a parking spot. For those who don't know, Zack only has one leg.
Matt pushes him over on the lock-uptwice. Zach chases him around and Matt goes out. We go to break and return. Matt misses an elbow drop and Zach hits one legged dropkicks. Zack is pushed into the ref and Matt hits him from behind.
Matt elbow drops Zack's leg. Zack boots him out of the corner, avoids a sweep from Truth then takes a triangle enzugiri on the apron. Matt asks if he knows who Zack is in the ring with and the crowd says, "Paulie Shore". We then get a "Paulie Shore" chant. Matt suplexes Zack.
Zack gets up and Matt lariats him. Zack rolls him up for 2 then Taven dropkicks him. Taven comes off the 2nd rope and runs into Zack's boot. Matt is pulled out then Zack kneeling springboard tope con hilos him. Zack goes up and gets stopped. Taven gets knocked down off the buckles and Truth pushes Zack down. Zack rolls him up for 2 then cradles him for 2. Zack STO's him for 2 then does a koji clutch.
Matt misses a charge and goes crotch first into the ropes. Zack asai moonsaults him while he's stuck on the ropes. Truth distracts the ref and Zack baseball slides Truth down. Scarlett then gets on the apron. Matt then hits his headlock driver finisher on Zack and wins.
Thoughts: The heels were effective in being dirtbags here as they had to cheat a lot to beat the one legged man. They maybe overdid it. There wasn't much to build this which hurt it as it made it obvious Zack wasn't winning. Zack was impressive though for his limitations.
Matt goes to beat up Zack after but Tomasso Ciampa comes out with a crutch to stop him.
Veda Scott says she assumed we tuned in to see the return of RD Evans. She says RD isn't here though and is training. She says he will be a wrecking machine when he returns. She says everyone will have more time to prepare for the wrath of RD. Eddie Kingston appears behind her with a clown mask. He says him and Homicide have been asking for a title match against Red Dragon. He says sooner or later Nigel will give him it as they will help ROH rise.
Jay Brisoce does a promo on his Final Battle match with Michael Elgin and Adam Cole. Elgin says he will do whatever it takes to leave champ.
Michael Bennett and Maria talk about Final Battle and his stretcher match with Kevin Steen. Mike says he has beaten Steen and this is just sour grapes. He says the loser of this match can't use the piledriver. He says this will be Steen's final match and says he will need the stretcher to get out of NYC.
Jay Briscoe comes out. Jay says it's a privilege to come out as the ROH champ (he's not though as he was forced to vacate it). He talks about the Final Battle three way match for the title with Elgin and Cole. He says the title Cole has doesn't mean anything and calls for him to come out. Silas Young comes out. He says Jay is nothing but a joke like his brother. Jay tells him to get in the ring and Silas says he's taking the title if he does. Jay then says it's a title match.
Real World Champion Title Match - Jay Briscoe (c) vs Silas Young
Jay hits headbutts then back elbows him. Jay boots and foot chokes him. Jay back elbows him and forearms him over. Jay chases him around the ring and gets hit coming in. Jay hits headbutts then a neckbreaker on him for 2. Jay hits punches and headbutts. Jay hits a nice facekick.
Silas takes Kevin Kelly's chair and throws the chair in. Silas then grabs a hammer that Jay doesn't see. Mark Briscoe comes out and takes it from Silas. Jay kicks the rope into Silas' crotch and jay drillers him for the win.
Thoughts: This wasn't much. Jay didn't do much but strikes and Silas went down easy.
Caprice Coleman and Cedric Alexander do a Toys for Tots ad.
We see a video on Jimmy Jacobs challenging for Cole's ROH Title. Jimmy says it's the one title that has evaded him. Cole says the title is going nowhere. Jimmy says he's challenging for the title in his home city and says the title it will be his. Cole says he will hurt him and the belt will be his forever. BJ Whitmer then is shown next to Jimmy and says he will be there watching his back.
Jay Lethal vs Eddie Edwards
Davey Richards is with Eddie. Eddie side headlocks him and shoulders him over. Eddie trips him then Jay rolls him. Eddie side headlocks him and is put in a headscissors. They then switch roles, repeat the spot and stand off.
They do a double knuckle lock. Jay pins him down and Eddie bridges. Jay flips out of a monkey flip. Jay then hiptosses him into a basement dropkick. Eddie is tripped into the 2nd rope then Jay slides out and dropkicks him.
Jay boots him out of the corner then 2nd rope leg lariats him. Jay euros him. Eddie boots him out of the corner. Jay is put in tree of woe then Eddie dropkicks him as he hangs. Eddie then dropkicks him again from the outside.
We go to break and return. Eddie hits chops then misses a corner charge and goes out. Jay topes him twice. Eddie hurricanrana's him out then hits a tope. Eddie then topes him again. Jay superkicks him. Jay springboard dropkicks him off the apron then topes him.
They stare down and go head to head in the ring. They trade forearms. Jay hits a lethal combination then top rope elbow drops him for 2. Jay back elbows him then it reverse sitout slammed off a handspring for 2.
Jay gets enzugiri'd up top then Eddie hits a backpack stunner for 2. Eddie then turns it into a single leg crab. Jay cradles him for 2. They each try pin attempts. Jay shotei's him then Eddie corner forearms him. Jay then backflips and hits a cutter off of it to win.
Thoughts: The finish looked a little funny with Jay backflipping to nowhere but hitting a cutter off of it. The match was decent. There wasn't a great story or clear faces or heels but the action was fine and we got some dives before going home. It was a totally acceptable TV main and I'd watch it again.
Overall thoughts: As usual, there wasn't a ton going on storyline wise and it's doubtful a lot of the match results will really lead anywhere. It was an easy hour of wrestling to watch though and I was fine with it. There's nothing you need to see but the main and opener were decent and the Briscoe match was short. I'd give this one a 5 out of 10 as it was average overall.
