WWF Superstars of Wrestling 2/1/1992
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/03/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-1251992.html
We go straight to a Wrestlemania VIII press conference where they decide who will get the WWF Title shot. Tunney, Hulk, Macho, Sid, Taker, Piper, Mean Gene, Flair, Heenan and Perfect are there. Ric Flair talks. He says he won the most coveted title in the world. He sees 5 of 29 men who were in the ring with him at the 1992 Royal Rumble that he beat. He says just as he walked into Mania champ, he will walk out champ. Flair, Perfect and Heenan then leave.
Jack Tunney talks. He says choosing a challenger was difficult. He says Hulk Hogan will be the challenge. Sid stands up thinking he will get it then rips up a piece of paper when he finds out it's Hulk. Hulk Hogan says the battle lines are drawn and says the real world's champ will find out what the power of Hulkamania is all about. He asks Ric what he will do when Hulkamania runs wild on him.
We go to Mr. Perfect and Vince McMahon. Perfect is happy and says they know they can beat Hulk and would have hand picked him themselves.
Macho Man is interviewed after the press conference. He says he doesn't like the decision and says he wishes it was him. He tells Hulk good luck. He says he's a good friend and respects him.
Sid Vicious is interviewed. He says he was the last man standing at The Rumble and would be champ if it wasn't for Hulk. He says what Jack Tunney did was bogus and was the most bogus act he ever pulled off. Sid asks if he wasn't picked because he's not a big movie star or because he is new. He says Hulk couldn't be Flair on his best day but he can. Sid says he can because he rules the world.
Thoughts: I didn't have a problem with Hulk being picked. He was champ and got stripped of the title without losing and he made it to the final 3 in the 1992 Rumble. Sid's promo on Tunney is one of my favorite promos ever.
The Beverly Brothers (Beau and Blake Beverly) vs Kevin Katlin and Scott Colontonio
I'm not sure what theme The Bev's have here but it's not their more famous theme. The Genius is with The Bev's. He does a poem on The New Foundation. He says Anvil is mad at them for injuring him and tells The Foundation to cash their chips while they can.
Blake trips Scott and splashes his back. Blake hits a powerslam. Scott is bridged on the top rope and takes a butt drop to the back. The Genius messes with Jamison in the front row. The New Foundation do an inset promo. Owen says there's no rhyme or reason about their abilities. Anvil says they are poetry in motion.
Beau hits a back elbow and Blake hits a belly to belly suplex on Kevin. Beau comes off the 2nd rope and pulls Kevin's head forward. Kevin then takes a shaker heights spike and is pinned.
Thoughts: It was the usual squash from The Bev's. There wasn't much of note here other than them starting up a feud with The New Foundation.
The Big Boss Man vs Terry Davis
Boss runs to the ring. Boss spinebusters TD then drops him with a punch. Boss leg lariats TD on the ropes then slides out and punches him. Boss facekicks TD then hits a sidewalk slam for the win.
Thoughts: It was a quick squash from Boss with him wasting no time en route to victory.
Boss then handcuffs Terry and threatens him like a true babyface.
WWF Event Center
Sean hypes up the next Boston Garden show. The Natural Disasters and Jimmy Hart do a promo. They say they have to beat Slaughter and Duggan to get the LOD again. Quake says they have been thrown to the lions and don't have a chance. Typhoon says they need to be begging that the day doesn't come to soon when they squash them.
Sgt. Slaughter and Jim Duggan do a promo. Jim says they don't have second thoughts, though it might be dangerous and hairy. He says the stars and stripes will be flying high when the dust settles. Quake says The Disasters are the same size as everyone else when they are on their backs. Sarge says they have a 2x4 for an equalizer if Jimmy Hart gets in the way.
Chris "Tatanka" Chavis vs Pat Tanaka
This is the first we heard of Chavis being referred to as Tatanka. They say his red hair represents the blood of the Indian nations. Tatanka knocks him over on the lock-up then he hiptosses Pat. They say some of his symbols are of various Indian tribes.
Tat hits some chops and is superkicked by Pat. Pat gets some offense in and chokes Tat on the ropes. Tat does his war dance. He hits punches and chops on Pat. Tat flying back elbows him and wins.
Thoughts: It wasn't a real impressive debut for Tatanka. He just did a bunch of chops and punches and not much else.
They shill tickets for Wrestlemania VIII.
Irwin R. Schyster vs Bob Smedley
Jamison is eating a burger in the front row. IRS says he hopes the people made their new resolutions and hopes they involve not cheating on the 1992 taxes like they did in 1991.
IRS sends Bob into the buckles and bacdrops him. IRS euros him then snapmares him. IRS hits elbow drops. IRS abdominal stretches him while holding onto the ropes. IRS hits a samon drop and gets the win.
Thoughts: It was a quick squash from IRS with Bob getting nothing in before going down.
WWF Event Center
SNME returns next Saturday on 1/8/92 at 9pm on Fox. Ric Flair, The Undertaker, Mr. Perfect and Paul Bearer do a promo on Piper and Hulk. Ric mocks Hulk and says Piper is his. He says Hulk gets to deal with Taker. Taker says it's a proven fact that Hulk is beatable. He says now we find out if he's immortal.
Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper do a promo. He says he will fight Flair but wants Piper to promise him he will beat up Flair. Hulk says he wants to wrestle Piper after he wins the title at Mania. Piper says you need a couple of men to go against a 6'7 ape and a blonde bombshell. Piper says showdown you bet, we haven't even saddled our pony yet.
We get a video on Papa Shango with a skull and candle. He says the time has come and says it's a time of blood. He says it is I, Papa Shango. He then laughs with flames shooting behind him.
Thoughts: The last year has been all about over the top gimmicks and we have yet another one here.
El Matador vs Bob Morgan
They lock up. Bob misses a shot and takes punches from Tito. Tito lariats him over then side headlock takeovers him. Tito dropkicks Bob. Tito does a fireman's carry takeover and side headlocks Bob. Bob eye rakes him and clubs on him. Tito hits shots to the gut and back body drops Bob. Tito knee lifts Bob then forearms him in the back of the head to win.
Thoughts: This wasn't a good squash. Bob couldn't move much and didn't make Tito look good here. He also wore some goofy looking yellow singlet with a t-shirt on underneath.
The Funeral Parlor
Sensational Sherri comes out in a dress. She spins around and Paul's eyes shoot wide open in a funny moment. Sherri talks about the man of her dreams. She says he has long blonde flowing locks and has a body sculptured in a way the Greek gods would envy. She says this man has great wrestling ability and has an animal magnetism that makes her blood run hot. She says she's in love with Shawn Michaels.
She says Shawn has never needed Marty Jannetty and has all the time to accept the love Sherri can give him. Paul asks what about Ted Dibiase? She says he's a loving and caring man. She says Ted left the door for her to return anytime. She says Ted has given her gifts any woman in the world would dream of having. She says Ted only wants what makes her happy. Sherri says what makes her happy is giving and sharing all her wealth with Shawn Michaels.
Thoughts: Now this was odd with Paul low key flirting with Sherri and Sherri basically saying she's in an open relationship with Ted Dibiase.
The Legion of Doom vs Pete Sanchez and Jim Cooper
The LOD attack at the bell. Animal dropkicks Pete then hits a hard lariat on him. Hawk comes off the top and hits Pete in the arm. Hawk slams and fist drops Pete.
Hawk clubs on Jim then Animal shoulders Jim over. Animal hits a belly to belly suplex and an elbow drop on Jim. Hawk chinlocks Jim. Animal corner lariats Jim. Jim then takes a doomsday device and is pinned.
Thoughts: It was the usual LOD squash with them looking big and bad. Animal had some nice offense here.
The Undertaker vs Mickey Jay
Yep, that's future WCW ref Mickey Jay. Taker boots and clubs on Jay. Taker hits a big boot. Taker lifts him by the throat and drops him. Taker then his a flying lariat. Taker then pins Jay with the tombstone.
Thoughts: It was the usual Taker squash with him looking good and getting the quick win.
Jay is put in the bodybag after.
WWF Event Center
Sean hypes up the next Boston Garden show. The Repo Man does a promo. He says he doesn't lie or steal like Big Boss Man. He says he hopes he can make it to the ring as he stole his hubcaps. He tells him to make it as he will repossess him.
The Big Boss Man says Repo is the kind of trash from people who need help. Boss says these people look up to Boss and expect him to take care of people like Repo. He says Repo is a common thief and he needs to take care of him. He says Repo needs to find out what law, order and justice is all about.
They talk about next week's show which has the debut of Papa Shango and Marty Jannetty's return to the ring. Vince says more matches will be announced for Wrestlemania VIII.
Overall thoughts: We got a new debut here in Papa Shango and he will have his debut next week. We found out Hulk will be challenging Ric Flair for the title at Wrestlemania VIII and we saw Tatanka's WWF debut match. We also found out that Sensational Sherri has a crush on Shawn Michaels. It was a newsworthy and important ep on that front, but wrestling wise, it was all squashes. You do have to see this if you are going to watch 1992 WWF, but there's no real other reason why would check this out.
