AEW Battle of the Belts XII 10/19/2024

AEW Battle of the Belts XII 10/19/2024

This started on Collision and bled over.

The Order come out to save the faces as the beat down continues. CC takes a chair shot from Silver. Yuta chairs Silver in the gut then CC chairs Silver in the back. Mox gets on the mic and says they will put the trios titles on the line right now and calls for the ref.

AEW Trios Titles - Blackpool Combat Club (Claudio Castagnoli, Pac and Wheeler Yuta) (c) vs The Dark Order (John Silver, Evil Uno and Alex Reynolds)

The match starts with The Order not even all in the ring. Silver is stomped and chopped on in opposite corners. Pac backdrops Silver. CC slams Silver multiple times. CC rocket launchers Yuta and Uno breaks up the count.

Uno is thrown over the rails. Pac spin kicks Silver. Silver lariats him. Alex is tagged in. He hits shots on the heels. CC forearms him over then gorilla press gutbusters him. CC sharpshooters Alex. Pac top rope double stomps Alex's back and Alex taps out to the sharpshooter.

Thoughts: This was dumb and should have never started as The Order weren't even ready. It was all squash here and a slow waste of time.

Silver is held for kicks from Pac. Uno slaps Mox and gets choked. Shafir bangs a suitcase on Silver's wrist while it's on the steps. Private Party, Orange Cassidy and Garcia come down and The BCC back off.

AEW Continental Title - Kazuchika Okada (c) vs Kyle O'Reilly

Kyle wristlocks Okada. Okada rolls through it and wristlocks him back. Kyle waistlocks him. Okada trips him and side headlocks him. Kyle takes him down by the arm. Okada teases punching him on the ropes but lets him go. Kyle legsweeps him and hits mounted palm strikes. Kyle goes for a leg and armbar combo. Kyle ankle locks him.

We go to PiP break and return. Kyle hits some shots and takes some back. Okada slams him and misses a slingshot swanton. Kyle knees him in the gut. Kyle hits a strike combo and legsweeps him. Kyle running forearms him in the corner and armbreakers him. Kyle hammerlock ddt's him.

Kyle dragon screws him over the middle rope. Kyle 2nd rope diving knees Okada on the apron. Kyle top rope knee drops Okada's leg then leglocks him. Kyle does a heel hook and Okada eye rakes him. Kyle hits leg kicks. Okada over the back neckbreakers him on the knee.

We go to PiP break then full break and return.Okada basement dropkicks him. 15 minutes have gone by and 5 minutes remain. Kyle guillotine chokes him. Kyle knees him in the chest and ankle locks him off a tombstone attempt. Okada ropebreaks.

Okada wastes time outside then ddt's Kyle on the floor. Okada slams him then top rope elbow drops him. Okada hits a big lariat. Okada dropkicks him then landslides him. Okada rainmakers him and wins.

Thoughts:
I was surprised it didn't go the time limit as it was close to doing so. it was a slow paced match with Kyle doing a lot of knees to the gut and leg kicks. Okada didn't do the greatest selling of it. It wasn't the most exciting match and it wasn't anything too special.

Anna Jay does a video and says she doesn't like Mariah May. She says she's shady and she's the one that can beat her. She says if she beats her tonight, she gets to do it all over again for the title.

LFI do a promo. Rush says that's what happens when you mess with LFI. Rush says they will destroy every single wrestler and faction in the company. We then see Mortos trying to rip off Hologram's mask. LFI then push on Holo as they say if you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

Lance Archer and Brian Cage vs Jack Cartwheel and Jon Cruz

Jack has some spray tan stuff on and looks like he took a bath in honey. Cage shoulders Jack over then is knocked over. Jack is popped up, goes down then is superkicked. Cage poses then throws Jack. Cage forces Cruz to tag in and throws him in. Cage hits corner attacks on Cruz. Cruz sits on the top rope and Archer hits a hard lariat to knock him over.

Archer release suplexes Cruz. Jack and Cage get in. Jack cartwheels then takes a hard lariat. Jack takes a powerbomb + chokeslam combo. Cruz takes a blackout + powerbomb combo and is pinned.

Thoughts: It was a great squash here with Cage and Lance beating the crap out of the jobbers. Oh man did they ever take a whooping here. Sign me up for the Cage and Lance team.

The Undisputed Kingdom and Mortos talk in the back. Mike gives Mort meat. Strong says something is off with him. They say he beat up Holo and is wearing a polo shirt which isn't cool. Strong says it makes them mad that he's doing it without them. Strong says they aren't mad, just disappointed.

AEW Women's Title Eliminator - Mariah May vs Anna Jay

They lock up and trade wristlocks. Anna side headlock takeovers her. May does the same to her. Anna headscissors her then hammerlocks him. Anna rolls out of a wristlock then bangs May's arm off the mat. Anna yanks the arm and throws her down by it.

May throws her down and basement dropkicks her. Anna shoulders her over and hits knees to the gut. Anna spinning heel kicks her in the corner. May hits mounted forearms on Anna.
May hair throws her. May hits chest slaps then spinning side slams her. We go to PiP break and return. They trade forearms. May misses a corner charge. Anna hits forearms and chops. Anna running forearms her and hair throws her.

Anna iconoclasms her and basement dropkicks her for 2. Anna backdrops her for 2. Anna chokes her. May bites the arm and backdrops her. May gemrans her for 2. May bridging ddts her for 2.

Anna takes a handstand headscissors on the ropes. May running knees her and Anna jacknife pins her for 2. Anna  is rolled up off the gori bomb for 2. May headbutts her. Anna rolls her up with a crucifix and wins.

Thoughts:
Anna winning was a shock. Nobody ever wins eliminator matches. It got a lot of time and was about average. They hit their moves mostly clean but there was no real logic to this or anything. It also could have used a faster pace.

Overall thoughts: There were four matches here and despite being a show dedicated to belts, there were only two title matches here. As usual, the AEW World Champ was nowhere to be seen and there were no big matches on this one. The opening segment/match was dumb. I loved the Cage and Archer squash. Okada/Kyle and May/Anna were both about average. I wouldn't recommend this one and thought it was an average show.
