WWE Evolve 1/7/2025

WWE Evolve 1/7/2025

There was no show for the last 2 weeks likely due to the holidays. The show from 3 weeks ago is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/12/wwe-evolve-12172025.html

Sean Legacy arrives. He says 2025 changed his life. He got to wrestle for NXT and sign his WWE contract. He says that was 2025 and now it's 2026. He says it's starting out tough but it's all about the Evolve title. He says Evolve is starting to look scary and that's why he has to win. He says he doesn't know what happens to Evolve if he loses.

Karmen Petrovic vs Laynie Luck

I think this is Luck's WWE TV debut. She was on AEW before.

LL snapmares her and gets legswept. They stand off. LL throws her down by the waist. KP armdrags her and LL cartwheels through. KP armlocks her then kicks her out of the conrer. KP counters a tilt-a-whirl with a bodypress.

LL corner euros her. KP drops down and is suplexed. LL misses a corner charge. KP 2nd rope diving slingblades her. KP hits a soul foot and sliding kicks her. KP high kicks her from the apron. LL tilt-a-whirl side slams her for 2. KP low corkscrew kicks her and pins her.

Thoughts: I don't like Luck losing in her debut here. It was a shorter bout and unoffensive but Lucky didn't really stand out.

The Vanity Project complain in the back about Sean Legacy being a pest. Drake says Eli, Holloway, Mathers, Rourke and Jones are too. Eli says The Project are what's wrong with Evolve. Mathers says they are only relevant as they have the Evolve Title. Drake calls them a liar. Brad says they run this place.

We get a video on the Lash Legend vs Wendy Choo feud. Choo says it'll be No DQ and anything goes. She says she learned in therapy that she doesn't have to hold back anymore.

No DQ Match - Chantel Monroe vs Wendy Choo

Choo jumps CM from behind as she enters. Choo clubs on her chest. CM throws a trash can in and the bell rings. CM hits her with a trash can lid. Choo thesz presses her and hits mounted shots. Choo lariats her. CM is put upside down in a trash in the corner. Choo dropkicks the can while she's in it. Cho grabs a table and we go to break.

We return from break. CM is hitting Choo with a chair. CM tries to spray her with hair spray. CM is sent into a chair between the buckles. Choo hits her with a chair. Choo running boots her in the corner and germans her. Choo does a grounded sleeper. CM uses hair spray to escape and superkicks her.

CM top rope diving meteora's her on a trash can for 2. CM pendulum ddt's her on a chair for 2. Choo sprays her with hair sprays in the eyes and bangs her head off a table. They get on the buckles near a table. Choo puts her in the dirt nap on the 2nd rope. Choo 2nd rope full nelson slmas her through a table and pins her.

Thoughts:
It was an okay bout here. There was nothing too special but they put over that they didn't like each other enough. I liked Monroe trying to use her hair spray on Choo. The top rope diving meteora on the trash can was a cool spot.

Choo is interviewed after. She says she lived in silence for too long and wants to show the real her. She says she will put the winner of the 3 way for the title to sleep.

Kendal Grey comes up to Choo after. She says she will take her and says Choo won't put her to sleep. She says she will beat her again. Choo says she can't beat the new her.

We get a Trill London video. He says he heard all his life that there's something about him but they can't put their finger on it. He says that's why he designs his own clothes and is misunderstood. He says he always finds himself as the focal point. He says he could see plays before they happened in football and that's how he ended up on the Miami Dolphins. He says he remembers his grandma watching Judgment Day 2007 and that's how he got here. He says you won't be able to put your finger on him, but just enjoy the show. He says he's not keeping it real with you, he's keeping it trill with you.

Cam Hendrix does a promo. He says this is your big moment as you get to see him. He says get used to this face on your TV screen as he will be all over it for 20 years. He says he's the complete package and says he proved everything he said to be true on LFG. He says he's taking his talents to Evolve. He says to enjoy the show because when he steps in the ring, it's lights, cam, action.

Layla Diggs and Masyn Holiday make dance videos in the back. Arianna Grace asks if they are filming so sweet and says it's so sweet they think anyone cares. Nikkita Lyons then says the same thing. They say they are so alike and says the opposite of going viral are Masyn and Layla.

We get a Jackson Drake vs Sean Legacy video.

WWE Evolve Title - Jackson Drake (c) vs Sean Legacy

Mike Cunningham, Aaron Rourke and Cappuccino Jones are in the VIP Lounge. Swipe Right are with Drake.

They club on each other. JD's head is banged off the buckles and he's chopped in the corner. Sean hiptosses him and kicks him in the back. JD's head is banged off the buckles.

Sean suplexes him for 2 and chops him in the corner. Sean kicks him in the back. Sean dropkicks him in the knee then the chest. Sean STF's him and JD ropebreaks. JD goes out. We go to break and return.

Sean rolls JD into an armlock. Sean kicks him in the back and standing moonsaults him for 2. Sean stomps him and does Kawada kicks for 2. Sean slams him and kicks him in the back. JD hits leg kicks. Sean bow and arrows JD. JD bang Sean's arm off his shoulders and flying knees him out. Sean kicks him from the apron and slingshot plancha's him outside.

Sean is pushed into the post and the steps outside shoulders first. JD stands on Sean's arm outside. JD knee drops the arm. JD takes off Sean's shoulder tape and pulls on the arm.  JD throws him down by the arm for 1. JD blocks a sunset flip and hits a standing moonsault double knee on Sean. JD enzugiri's him. JD handsprings and is caught with a german. We go to break and return.

They trade shots. Sean gordbusters him, stomps the hands and yanks him into a rolling death valley driver. Sean tope con hilos him outside. Sean springboard 450's him for 2. JD superkicks him out of the corner. JD misses a 2nd rope crossbody. Sean hits Ricochet's vertigo on him for 2.

JD bangs Sean's arm off the top rope. JD springboard swantons Sean's back. Sean standing moonsaults him for 2. JD crossfaces him. JD triangles him and Sean sitout bombs him off of it. JD flying knees him. JD low flying knees him to the front and back and wins.

Thoughts: Drake mostly stuck to working Sean's shoulder/arm here and it was a little better than his usual work. I still didn't quite love it or anything though and just thought it was okay at best. The result is interesting because it pretty much has to lead to a Sean Legacy heel turn at this point. They've been teasing it and Sean really doesn't have much of a case for getting another shot.

Cam Hendrix, Braxton, Keanu, Riggins and Presley come out. Cam says it was an instance classic. Cam says he earns a title shot and they are about to run Evolve for one night.

Harlem Lewis comes out and interrupts. Harley wants to slap hands but Lewis goes right to Drake and Swipe Right. Lewis says he doesn't care about Team PC or Team WWE ID. He says he only cares about the title. He says if anyone in the room has a problem with it, step to him right now. Swipe Right take their shirts off looking to fight but back off.

Timothy Thatcher and Charlie Dempsey talk in the parking lot. Tim tells him to go home and says he made his decision. Dempsey says how is this the Thatcher he used to look up to. He says how can he say he's the best wrestler if he hasn't beaten him. He says he wanted to be like him but can't think of anything worse. He says he's a sad, emasculated stooge. Tim says this isn't about him and it'll be about Dempsey screaming while he rips him apart. He says he has his match.

Overall thoughts: The long break between episodes was rather detrimental to everything they are doing. The show was fine. We finally got a date set for Dempsey/Thatcher and we finally got to see the Monroe/Choo No DQ match. There was nothing bad here and the show was perfectly fine. I feel like Sean Legacy is going to turn or do something big after losing another title match and I'm interested to see what it is. I'd give this a 6 out of 10.
