CMLL 1/16/2206 Fin de Semana Internacional

The announcer is in the ring with the AEW National Title. He talks and likely welcomes us to the show.

Magia Blanca and El Hijo del Paneta vs Polvora and El Coyote

Pol and MB go at it. They trade basic holds. MB takes him down and tries a pin. Pol STO's him then gets a 2 count on him. MB back elbows him.

Pant and Coy go at it. Coy cartwheels over him and they armdrag each other. Coy armdrags him and takes an upkick. Pant hiptosses him then Coy upkicks him. They stand off. Coy bites his fingers. Pant is knee'd in the back as he runs the ropes by Pol. Pant is then double stomped on. 

Pant flying headscissors Coy. Pant goes up and over Pol. MB springboard crossbodies Pol. Pol nearly hits Coy on accident then MB is popped up into a headscissors on Coy. MB springboards and Coy dropkicks him in mid-air. Coy headbutts and kicks Pant while he's down. Pol then joins in. Pant is dropkicked in the knee then basement dropkicked in the face. MB is booted over by Coy. MB is double teamed on the 2nd rope.

MB is flipped backwards then Coy basement dropkicks him. Pant is held for a chop from Pol. Pol misses a corner spear and goes into the post. Pant walks the ropes and tope con hilos Pol through the ropes. MB springboard flying headscissors Coy then tope con hilos him outside.

Pant rolls out of a Pol dropkick and MB springboard dropkicks Pol. Pant gets a 2 count off of it. Pol pop up drops Pant then Coy springboard dropkicks Pant. MB does an unusual spinning rack drop on Coy. Pol dominators MB. Pant dropkicks Pol in the knee and short ddt's him. Coy sitout drops Pant on his chest. 

Pant is popped up and does a double dropkick. Pant then rope con hilos Coy through the ropes. MB asai moonsaults Pol outside. Pant and MB hit wastelands on their opponents. Pant top rope swantons Pol and MB spiral taps Coy off the top. MB and Pant pick up stereo pins to win.

Thoughts: It was longer and not that exciting. The heels really just did basic boots and punches here and it just never got super exciting. 

Valiente Jr., Max Star and Futuro vs El Cobarde, Felino Jr. and Hijo del Stuka Jr.

1st Fall - KeMonito is with the faces. Cov and Val start us off. Val flips over him, spin kicks him in the gut and enzugiri's him. Val top springboard flips and lands on his feet. Cob standing moonsaults him. Val rolls him into a splash. They then headflip and stand off together. Stuka boots Val over. Fut superkicks Cob. 

Fut moonsaults over Stuka and Stuka flips over his back. Fut headflips out of a hurricanrana. Fut spinning bodyscissors takedowns Stuka. Fut superkicks Stuka. Max and Fel get in. Fel rolls over his back. Max enzugiri's him then springboard 2nd rope headscissors him. 

Fel takes a double enzugiri in the corner. Cob and Stuka take stereo superkicks. The faces hit triple wastelands on the heels. The faces then miss triple dives off the top. Stuka hits a blade runner ddt, Cob does like a spinning michinoku driver and all 3 heels pick up pins to win the fall. Felino Jr.'s team wins the fall.

2nd Fall - Val is triple teamed to start. Val takes kicks then a high/low. Stuka gets on his partners shoulders and splashes Val for 2. Fut is superkicked by Fel then flipped into a double kick. Fut is powerslammed. Stuka is hiptossed into the ropes and splashes Fut off of it. 

Fut takes a step up enzugiri. Fut takes a blue thunder from Cob for 2. Fut is triple stomped on. The heels nearly hit each other. The heels are all then sent over the top. Fut is down. Val step up flip dives on the heels outside. Max rope walks into a top rope moonsault outside. Fut springboard tornillos the heels outside.Val tilt-a-whirl armdrags Cob into a pin and pins him. Valiente Jr.'s team wins the fall.

3rd Fall - Cob dropkicks Val. Val springboard diving headscissors Cob. Cob takes a double 619. Cob is dropped onto Val's knees chest first for 2. Stuka takes superkicks from the faces. Max walks the rope and double stomps Stuka over the 2nd rope. Stuka takes an ugly fall down.

Fut dragon suplexes Fel. Val flips Max into a splash on Fel from the 2nd rope. Fut gets on his partners shoulders on the 2nd rope and he splashes Fel. Max and Val hit stereo tope con hilos in the corner. 

Stuka hits a double armdrag then does a spinning reverse headscissors. Stuka gets on his partners shoulders and plancha's the faces outside. Stuka gets on his partners shoulders again but takes a springboard cutter from Val. Fut and Max do stereo code red's on the heels for 2. 2 of the faces are pushed off the buckles. Val is caught with a powerbomb then a top rope Cob swanton and a Stuka top rope splash. Val is pinned. Felino Jr.'s team wins the fall and match.

Thoughts: It was an entertaining bout as expected. It was filled with flying and exciting action. Futuro hurt his leg in the 2nd fall after a botch and was down for a little. I enjoyed this one and it got a ton of time to play out.

Soberano Jr. and Barbaro Cavernario vs The Gates of Agony (Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona)

Kaun and Barb go at it. Kaun backs him up on the ropes and stares him down. Kaun side headlocks him and shoulders him over. Barb kips up. They leapfrog each other and hit shots. Kaun boots him out of the corner and Barb does the worm. Barb springboard crossbodies him. Toa pulls Barb out and Kaun slingshot plancha's Barb.

Sob gets in. He dropkicks Kaun out. Sob flips over Toa's back. Toa blocks a flying headscissors and buckle boms him. Sob takes a dropkick and hip attack in the corner. Kaun hits a big ending on Barb then Barb takes a sandwich bodyblock.

Toa gorilla presses Sob onto Barb on the ramp. GoA pose. Barb is sent into the rails. Toa shoulders Barb over outside. Kaun sends Barb into the rails. Sob tries shots on Toa outside but is dropped throat first on the rails. Kaun chops Barb in the corner.

Toa sits on Sob's neck on the 2nd rope. Kaun chinlocks Sob and bridges while doing it. Kaun knocks Sob down. Kaun then unties Sob's mask. Kaun chops Sob outside and hits knees on him on the rails. Barb is sent into the rails. 

Kaun unties Sob's mask inside. Sob hits some upkicks. Kaun spinning slams Barb. Sob is stomped on by the heels in the corner.  Barb boots the heels out of the corner. Sob top rope double crossbodies the heels. Barb is popped up into a double dropkick. Sob dropkicks the heels out. Barb and Sob do stereo tope con hilos outside. 

Sob chops Kaun inside. Sob and Barb pose. Sob top rope tornillo's Kaun. Barb giant swings Kaun and Sob dropkicks Kaun mid-swing. Toa hits corner lariats. Barb springboard dropkicks Toa. Barb springboard splashes Toa's back then drops Sob into a legdrop on Toa for 1. Toa puts his opponents on his back and hits a double samoan drop. 

Sob springboard plancha's Kaun on the ramp but is caught. Kaun running suplexes Sob on the ramp. Barb hits chops on Toa. Barb is lifted for a Kaun cutter. Kaun lifts up Barb on the pin attempt. Barb chops the heels. Barb rolls into an enzugiri on Toa. Kaun rolls up Barb for 2. Barb la rosa suplexes Kaun. Kaun blocks his springboard splash. Barb pulls back on Kaun's chin and submits him to win the match.

Thoughts: It was a longer bout. Sob's usually a heel but was kind of a face here which made for a weird dynamic. The GoA can't win in America and can't seem to win in Mexico either. I thought this was a little boring at times and just thought it was so-so. 

Blue Panther vs Ultimo Guerrero

Both guys wore their masks out. UG beats him up on the ramp as he enters and whips him with his jacket. UG stomps on him in the corner. UG chops him down. UG sends him into the rails outside and unties his mask.

UG chopsh im in the ring. BP lariats him over a couple of times and shoulders him out of the ring. BP cannonballs him off the apron. BP then takes off his own mask. UG then hits him from behind.

UG gets some offense in and BP 2nd rope headscissors him. BP flying headscissors him from the apron to the floor. BP then crossbodies him off the ramp. UG chops him in the corner. BP lariats UG for 2.

UG misses a flying knee in the corner and goes out. BP 2nd rope twisting plancha's him outside. BP then topes UG into the rails outside. BP then topes him again. They go back in and BP is stuck up top. UG 2nd rope superplexes him for 2. UG 2nd rope powerbombs him for 2. UG is on the 2nd rope, BP gets on his shoulders and hurricanrana's him down or 2.

UG slams him. UG misses a top rope moonsault for 2. UG slams him. They go up top and BP kind of does a top rope side headlock takeover/spanish fly and pins him.

Thoughts: It was an incredible effort from BP. He dove and flew all around here and that was quite the sight. UG did his job as the heel and BP was of course the face. They did overdo it a little but this was a really fun bout and they got most of this right. It was a good bout.

UG kisses him after and they hug. UG then carries him around on his shoulders.

Ricochet does a promo in the crowd. He says he's a super star and muy guapo in Mexico. He says he will show everyone why he's out of this world and still the AEW National champ.

Titan then does a promo in Spanish from the stage.

#1 Contender to the CMLL Heavyweight Title - Hechicero vs Roderick Strong

They lock up twice. RS wristlocks him then Hech trips him and drops down on his legs. They shove each other and Hech shoulders him over. They try pin attempts and roll around the ring trying to cradle each other. Hech trips him and pulls him down off the leapfrog. 

Hech euros him. RS backbreakers him and stomps him. RS dropkicks him through the ropes. RS backbreakers him on the rail top. RS sends Hech into the rails. RS pounds on him in the corner then stands on his chest in the corner. 

RS boots him around. Hech tilt-a-whirl backbreakers him. Hech step up knees him in the corner. Hech dropkicks him in the knee whcih sends him out. Hech then suicide dives him outside. Hech chops him against the rails. Hech puts him on the rail and enzugiri's him. Hech then jumps off the apron and elbows him off the rail.

Hech powerslams him and gets a 2 count. Hech swinging hammerlock backbreakers him for 2. Hech misses a move on the ropes and takes a sick kick for 2. They trade shots on their knees. Hech pulls down his straps. They trade some shots. RS olympic slams him for 2. 

RS trips him into a crab. Hech rolls him around into a pin for 2. Hech step up knees him in the corner and does a blue thunder for 2. Hech olympic slams him for 2. Hech is crucifixed for 2. RS flying knees him from behind then flying knees him in the face to win.

Thoughts: It got enough time to play out and was an okay match. It wasn't anything too special and not quite as structured as US matches. They didn't do anything too wild here.

AEW National Title - Ricochet (c) vs Titan

Ric wristlocks him and Titan flying snapmares him. Titan takes him down and rides his back. Titan kips up out of a wristlock, headflips and armdrags him. Ric legsweeps him, they try to dropkick each other at the same time then kip up together. They stand off.

Ric takes him down and headflips out of an armdrag and a headcissors. Ric dropkicks him out of the ring. Titan springboard dropkicks him then topes him. Titan reverse figure fours him. They go to the ramp. Ric blocks a tornado ddt and suplexes him on the ramp.

Ric boots him over the 2nd rope. Ric pulls Titan's arms backwards. Titan spin kicks him then Ric back elbows him for 2. Ric bites him on the buckles. Ric chops him down in the corner. Titan boots him from the ropes and spin kicks him. Titan jumping kicks him. Titan springboard crossbodies him then dropkicks him out. Titan tope con hilos him outside.

Titan springboard slashes him for 2. Ric northern lights suplexes him then holds on for a brainbuster. Ric running ssp's him for 2. Titan la magistral's him for 2 counts. Ric does a reverse triangle and Titan ropebreaks. 

They chop each other and trade forearms. Titan spin kicks him. Ric knees him in the face and Titan jumping back kicks him. They go up top and trade shots. Titan headbutts him down and top rope double stomps him on the apron. Ric suplexes him on the apron. Ric flying space tiger drops him outside. Ric springboard 450's him for 2. Titan tornado ddt's him. Titan superkicks him. Titan springboard double stomps him. Titan does an indian deatlock on him.

Titan goes to springboard and is pushed down. Ric flying double knees him in the corner. Titan slaps him and spinning heel kicks him. Titan top rope double stomps him for 2. Ric cradles him for 2. Titan superkicks him then Ric lariats him down. Ric hits vertigo for 2. Ric top rope ssp's him for 2. Ric running lariats him for the win.

Thoughts: It was a longer bout and went a little too long. It wasn't quite as high flying as I expected. There wasn't much of a story and it had minimal face and heel work outside of the beginning. It was acceptable but not much more. Ric won as expected here as there was no reason to think he would lose this.

Overall thoughts: It was a longer show than usual. All of the AEW vs CMLL matches were more drawn out affairs and not for the better. They were mostly acceptable matches but would have been a lot better if half the time got cut. Ultimo/Panther was the match of the night without question. Panther really tried to impress and did more than I have ever seen him do. I also liked the 2nd match as it was a high flying affair. I'd give them a low 6 out of 10 as they did try to put a good show on here.
