AEW Dynamite 1/7/2026

AEW Dynamite 1/7/2026

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/12/aew-dynamite-12312025-new-years-smash.html

We are in Tulsa, OK.

Jim Ross is brought out.

Renee Paquette is in the back. She says Jetspeed were attacked earlier and can't compete tonight. The Demand and Don Callis come in. Renee brings up Ricochet's bounty on them. Ric says he didn't put a bounty on them. Don Callis then brings in Jake Something (they call him Jake Doyle) and Mark Davis and says someone got rich off of attacking Jetspeed.

Thoughts: I like Jake. He didn't really get his due in TNA and oddly, WWE had no interest in him. I don't have much faith for him in AEW as it's not a big man's fed.

AEW Continental Title Eliminator Match - Jon Moxley vs Shelton Benjamin

MVP is on commentary for this. SB overhead throws Mox then release germans him. They trade forearms. Mox facekicks him. SB germans him and hits punches and boots in the corner. Mox hits chops and SB forearms him. Mox boots him out of the corner and lariats SB over the top. Mox forearms SB against the rails. Mox is sent into the rails then lariated over them.

They fight in the stands and in the crowd. SB hits him from the barricades. SB germans him on the floor. They butt heads and SB is sent into the steps. They double lariat each other. We go to PiP break and return.

Mox is up top, SB jumps up to the top and double underhook suplexes him down. SB hits boots and Mox eye rakes him. SB corner splashes him then misses one. Mox running lariats him. SB release germans himmultiple times. Mox slaps him and is high kicked. Mox cutters him for 2.

Mox hits mounted corner punches. SB powrbombs him for 2. SB ties his legs up and pulls on the chin. SB is pulled over the top. Mox topes him. SB jumping flatliners him inside for 2. Mox is superkicked in the back of the leg then the face. SB step up knees him in the corner. Mox double underhook ddt's him for 2.

SB step up knees Mox when he's on one knee. SB gets a 2 count. SB triangles him and Mox pins him out of it.

Thoughts: It was a long opener at almost 20 minutes. The selling could have been a little better here but it was acceptable. I'm not sure how neither guy was counted out when they were outside for a while.

They shake hands after.

They us clips of Okada vs Tanahashi from the Tokyo Dome this weekend.

The Demand (Ricochet, Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun) vs Jack Perry and The Young Bucks (Nick and Matt Jackson)

JetSpeed were supposed to be in this but got taken out earlier by The Demand and The Don Callis Family.

Jack's crew runs in and attacks the heels. GoA take dropkicks to the knee and a pop-up double dropkick. Ric gets chopped outside with a cowboy hat on. A Buck corkscrew dives over the top on GoA. Jack top rope moonsaults GoA. Jack spears Ric and hits mounted punches. Ric takes corner attacks. Ric takes a triple basement dropkick.

Ric takes a backbreaker + slingshot legdrop. Ric takes a hanging headscissors over the top. Ric is rolled face first into the mat and is ddt'd. GoA are sent out then The Bucks hit topes. Ric takes a bridging double underhook ddt from Jack for 2. Jack is flying knee'd out from behind. Kaun ends Jack into the rails and apron edge. Toa pounces Jack over the rail. We go to PiP break and return.

Ric kneelifts Jack then Jack rebound lariats him. A Buck comes in and hits punches on the heels. The GoA are sent into each other. A Buck walks up the buckles and corkscrew armdrags Ric. The GoA get hit with superkicks by The Bucks. One Buck hits a swanton while the other hits a top rope elbow drop.

Toa takes a cutter on the floor. Ric takes a canadian destroyer. Jack asai moonsaults out and Ric is top rope double stomped into a sitout powerbomb for 2. Toa puts all 3 opponents on his shoulders and hits a triple samoan drop.

Jack takes a superplex into a top rope diving headbutt. Ric springboard 450's Jack for 2. Jack flips off the buckles into a german on Ric. Kaun running suplexes Jack. Jack superkicks Kaun and Toa. Jack is lifted into a cutter. Ric hits vertigo on Jack for 2.

Ric pumping knees Jack. Jack poisonrana's Ric. Ric is hit with a double superkick then Kaun is as well. Kaun is triple superkicked.  A Bick dpes a corskcrew dive off the top. Ric takes a springboard doomsday device > BTE trigger > flying knee and is pinned.

Thoughts: It was the usual Bucks' match with them doing a million spots that didn't mean much. I wasn't a big fan of it.

Mark Davis and Jake Doyle attack The Bucks after. Jake chokes a Buck with his shirt. JetSpeed then come out and attack The Don Callis Family with hockey sticks. The lights go out and come back on. Andrade El Idolo attacks the faces in a mask. Don then raises Idolo's hand. FTR and Stokeley (in a wheel chair) then appear on the ramp.

We have a celebration for Willow Nightingale. They have a table with streamers and cake in the ring. Willow, Kris Statlander and Harley Cameron come out. The lights go out as the interview in the ring starts. Willow says she feels good about being a double champ. She says this is the first stop in the Willow 2 Belts Tour.  Willow says she's been reunited with Kris. Willow says she will defend both belts in one night if she has to as that is what wrestling is about.

Willow says she knows someone will crash her party. She says anyone who wants to come is invited. She invites Mercedes Mone to come out. Mone comes out. Willow says she looks great and had a great 2025. She puts over her accomplishments. Willow says she's once more the face of TBS and says they should cut cake and have a great time. Mone gets upset and screams. She then throws the food and knocks the table over. Harley shoots a popper at her and Mone gets mad. Mone charges at Willow, trips and falls face first into cake. Willow then doctor bombs Mone on cake. Willow and her friends then do a dance train as Mone lays on the mat.

Thoughts: This wasn't exactly a real babyface segment. I kind of felt bad for Mone here.

Mark Briscoe does a promo from the farm. He says he's proud of Willow. Mark says he's been sitting back enjoying Continental Classic action. Mark says he's not doing so good. Mark says it's been too long since he whooped a man's @ss. He says Hechicero is the next challenger for the title. He says he knows Hech is a bad man then does Hech's sorcery taunt. He says the TNT isn't going nowhere.

Thekla's crew do a promo. She says Kris finally found some friends. She says she reunited with a woman she hates. She asks when she will hit Willow with a light tube or spit in Harley's face. Thek says let's see how long they can last against them. Thek says, "let's get toxic".

Bandido vs Sammy Guevara

Band offers a handshake and SG gives him the finger. Band gives him the finger gun. SG flips out of a wristlock and puts his own on. Band armdrags him. SG pump kicks him. Band trips SG into the ropes and SG goes out. Band's head is banged off the buckles. SG goes to slingshot in and is booted down.

SG spits something in Band's face. SG moonsaults off the steps, gets caught and ddt's Band on the floor. We go to PiP break and return. SG chops Band and Band chops him back. They each hit corner lariats. Band jumping kicks him. Band top rope tornillo's him. Band one arm gorilla press slams him. Band pump kicks him out. Band tope con hilos him. SG monkey flips him into the ropes and Band takes an odd fall down.

SG's nose is busted open. SG top rope ssp's him outside. Band blocks a GTH then cradles him off the 2nd rope attempt. Band knees him in the face and SG os cutters him for 2. Band pop-up cutters him. SG flying knees him. SG flips him backwards and does a ddt off of it for 2.

Band flips him and knees him in the face off of it. Band hits a 21plex and wins.

Thoughts:
Band won as expected here. It was the same match Sammy always has with lots of flying and big moves. Sammy's nose got busted open here and he took an odd bump off a monkey flip into the ropes. I thought it was an indy style match and it wasn't my thing.

MJF comes out with Jon Cruz. MJF says that was one heck of a match. He says if anyone knows about lucha, it's him. He says he sold out Arena Mexico multiple times, is a former CMLL champ and beat Mistico (though he says he doesn't know his name). He says he's a lucha legend and is a bigger star in Mexico than band ever will be. He says he thinks Band has a lot of potential. He says he brought out Cruz to translate for him.

Cruz talks in Spanish to him. MJF says he has 6 Dynamite Diamond Ring's. He says he didn't wear his but says the one Band has belongs to him. He asks him to hand the ring over. He says he will put him over to Tony Khan if he does it and says he will wrestle him on PPV in 5-10 years.

Band says he can speak English. He calls MJF a stupid, son of a b!tch. They butt heads. MJF kicks him in the crotch. MJF then takes the ring back. MJF tries to hit Band with it but hits Cruz instead on accident. Band kicks MJF in the crotch and takes the ring back. Band hits a 21plex on Cruzthen MJF.

Thoughts:
This segment didn't work because of the Dynamite Diamond Ring. The rules up until this year were that you had to beat the last winner of it to get it yet Band didn't have to do that here.

Brody King does a video. He says violence sometimes is the answer.  We see him at a death metal concert. He says he wants everyone to know he's coming for the throne.

Toni Storm vs Marina Shafir

They lock up. MS sweeps her and boots her. MS cartwheels into a side headlock. MS hip throws her. Toni armdrags her and hits snapmares. Toni facekicks her. Toni hip attacks her off the apron. Toni chops her on the rails and bangs her head off the steps. Toni has words for Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia outside. MS uranage's her. We go to PiP break and return.

Toni hits forearms. MS chokes her on the 2nd rope. She tiger feint's and pulls her head over the middle rope. MS gets a 2 count on her. MS dances with her. MS forearms her in the spine. MS dances with her more and forearms her down. Toni shotgun dropkicks her. MS running boots her.

Toni upkicks her then headbutts her. Toni cradles her for 2 when Yuta pulls the ref out. The ref DQ's Yuta.

Thoughts: It wasn't that good and a had a lame finish here. MS had control for most of this but mostly danced with Toni.

MS drops Toni with a punch after. Mina Shirakawa comes in and gets facekicked. Luther comes in then Roderick Strong and Orange Cassidy come out. Claudio Castagnoli then comes out.

PAC is interviewed in the back. Renee asks when Darby Allin gets a rematch. Pac says he's not here to oblige him. He says he beat him twice and says he's the winner while Darby in the loser. Darby comes in and says to give him the match. Pac says he doesn't call the shots. Pac tells him to jog on and says he's not interested. Darby sprays him with a fire extinguisher, hits him with a skateboard then threatens to slam a door on his ankle and break it. Pac then agrees and The Death Riders come in.

Thoughts:
Man, the faces are unlikable tonight. Threatening and attacking a heel to get a match with him is not exactly a face move.

Lights Out Match - Adam Page and Swerve Strickland vs Powerhouse Hobbs and Hook

The lights are out for this. The faces come out through the crowd.

Swerve sends Hook into the rails and Hobbs beats up Page on the rails. Hobbs lariats SS on the apron. Hobbs misses a chairshot on him against the post. Swerve pump kicks him from the apron. Page hits Hobbs with a chair, puts the chair around his head and sends him into the post.

Page top rope moonsaults Hobbs outside. Swerve death valley drivers Hook on the apron. The lights come on. Swerve chops Hook against the rails. Hobbs lariats Page with a chain outside then Swerve slingshot plancha's Hobbs outside. Swerve and Hook fight on the apron. Hook capture suplexes Swerve on the apron.

Hook takes a spinning forearm with a chain. Swerve hits a house call kick on Hook. Page buckshot lariat's Hook. Page hangs Hook with the chain and submits him.

Thoughts
: It was a long bout that started late. They had the trademark AEW hardcore stuns here with cement blocks and a staple gun. It was okay but nothing too memorable. They gave up on the lights being out early on which was fine by me as it made it a lot easier to watch with the lights on.

Overall thoughts
: This went 2 hours and 19 minutes which I wasn't too happy about. It was a wrestling heavy show as these AEW shows usually are. The opener was okay. We had the usual matches from The Young Bucks and Sammy Guevara, which were both indy affairs. Toni/Shafir wasn't super interesting. The main was okay and was a hardcore match as expected. The faces were all pretty unlikable here, doing heel like things to the heels. I didn't think it was a very interesting show storyline wise and I can't say there's anything I'm super interested in at the moment. I'd give this a 5 out of 10 as it was an average AEW show, though I'm sure some will love this.
