WWWF All-Star Wrestling 2/11/1978
The last show we have is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2026/01/wwwf-all-star-wrestling-1281978.html
Vince McMahon welcomes us to the show and talks about the card.
Larry Zbyszko does a PSA with a kid about juvenile diabetes.
Baron Mikel Scicluna and "Butcher" Paul Vachon vs Special Delivery Jones and Pete Austin
Capt. Lou Albano is with the heels. He's warming up and pretending to jump rope in the ring.
Lou runs at SD and is punched. Lou then runs right out. SD and PV lock up. PV shoulders him over. SD back body drops him. Baron comes in. SD armwringers him. Pete then does the same to Baron. Baron hits shots on Pete. Baron clubs Pete's chest and sends him into PV's knee. PV chops Pete on the ropes and hits a hard punch.
SD is tagged in. He hits punches on PV's gut. Baron comes in and boots SD. He then snapmares him into a stomp. Baron boots SD then chokes him. SD hits some punches and headbutts Baron down. PV gets in and is headbutted by SD.
Pete chinlocks PV then clubs him in the corner. He runs into PV's big boot. Baron comes in and clubs on Pete. Pete is snapmared and PV double stomps him. Baron knee drops Pete and pins him.
Thoughts: It wasn't that good and there was little but various strikes. I liked Paul's double stomp and I liked Albano's sell on the punch from SD. They just never got a good flow going here.
Stan "The Man" Stasiak vs "High Chief" Peter Maivia
Stan has The Grand Wizard with him. Stan chinlocks him but is armdragged over. Stan kimura's him but PM lifts him. Stan ropebreaks. PM then hits the rope into Stan's crotch.
Stan ropebreaks again and PM spanks him. PM shoulders him in the gut. Stan then punches him off the headlock. Stan hits more clubs and does a trapezius hold on PM. Stan slips a choke in and PM ropebreaks. Stan then clubs, punches and stomps him.
PM blocks a heart punch and drops him with a euro. PM stomps him while he's down on the apron and pushes the ref Dick Woehrle. PM full nelson's him. Stan clubs and punches him. PM blocks a heart punch, headbutts him then sends him over the top with a euro.
PM is distracted by The Grand Wizard and Stan pounds on PM. He chokes him then boots him out of the ring. Stan chest clubs him off the apron. PM pulls Stan out and bangs his head off the steps. They fight outside and both end up getting counted out.
Thoughts: It wasn't a bad match. Stan doesn't do a ton, but the stuff he does do connects and it's easy to buy him as a tough guy. He also bumps and sells pretty well. PM was his usual cocky self and I liked him firing up near the end.
Vince McMahon interviews Freddie Blassie and Spiros Arion. Fred says there's a big fat slob fan who thinks he can wrestle that challenged Arion. Fred rips a fan and says, "the sanitation department forgot to remove him the last time they cleaned the arena".
Spiros Arion says he gets a big thrill wrestling fat men like that fan. He says when you punch them in the face, you hear the crack of the meat. Fred says Arion's name is a household name after his world tour. Fred starts ripping the fat fan again and says flies keep circling that fan's head.
Vince asks if it bothers Arion to be associated with Fred. Arion says Fred is class and says he himself is class. Vince says there's no place in wrestling to single an individual out and hurl those abuses. Fred says he apologizes....but he means it double. Fred says he knows why fans tell their women to stand back when Fred walks by. Fred then shows off his collapsable cane.
Vince asks if it bothers Arion that Fred makes money at his expense while he takes bruises. Arion says he never took any bruises and says Fred never took any money from him. He says Fred is the man who put him on top. We then sadly cut away.
Thoughts: Blassie was on fire here and him blasting that fan was hilarious.
Handicap Match - "The Iron Greek" Spiros Arion vs Pete Reeves and Dennis Johnson
SA grabs both opponents to start and bangs their heads together. SA stomps DJ then kneels on him. SA knee's Pete down. Pete is booted down. SA full nelsons DJ. Pete clubs him while he has the hold on.
SA boots the jobbers and sends Pete out. SA headlocks and punches down DJ. SA stomps him and hip throws him. SA then picks him up on the pin attempt. Pete comes back in and is pushed. SA euros the jobbers down then hits punches on them. The jobbers are choked on the top rope together.
Pete gets chest clubs in on SA. DJ joins in and SA is getting 2v1'd. SA is sent into the corner and is double teamed again. SA bangs the jobbers heads together while doing a headbutt. SA slams Pete and picks him up on the pin attempt. Pete is thrown out.
SA drops DJ with hooks and Fred shoves his cane into Pete's head. SA hits shots on DJ then backbreakers him on his shoulder. DJ then submits.
Thoughts: The jobbers got a little in before going down and I think that helped put this over a bit. We got little here but punches, boots and knee drops.
Dominic Denucci vs "The Continental Nobleman" Joe Turco
Vince calls Joe "demomic".
Joe complains about a hair pull on the lock-up. Joe clubs Dom's chest on the break and Dom goes at him. Dom hammerlocks him and Joe ropebreaks. Joe side headlocks him and uses the hair to keep the hold on. Joe pulls the hair more, keeps the hold on and hits punches. Dom top wristlocks him then clubs his chest.
Joe grabs a bearhug and Dom ear claps him. Dom waistlocks him and Joe ropebreaks. Joe then pulls Dom by the hair and clubs his chest. Dom trips him and Joe rope breaks again.
Dom trips him and Joe rope breaks yet again. Joe wristlocks him then pulls the tights to get him down. Joe throws him over the arm and wristlocks him. Dom bridges so he doesn't get pinned. Joe's got an armbar on and says, "I got him now" and "that's the way".
Joe bites the hand then pulls him down by the hair again. Joe hits clubs on the ropes. Joe bends over and Dom sunset flips him to win.
Thoughts: Joe got a TON of offense in here which was surprising since he's usually just jobber fodder. Joe is such a master at basic heeling. He cheats at every chance, constantly complains, constantly rope breaks and talks a lot of trash. I'm sure it gets a little old week in and week out but Joe could easily anger anyone with his antics. Dom got the win but I can't say this did much for him but make him look foolish.
They announce Dom as the winner and Joe says, "no no no no no, he cheated".
Mr. Fuji and Professor Toru Tanaka vs Frankie Williams and Joe Marcus
Toru throws salt in the corners.
Toru and FW lock up. Toru trips him and FW ropebreaks. They lock up again and FW is taken into the corner. Fuji bangs FW's head off the buckles and clubs him. FW hits uppercuts on Fuji then clubs him. FW chinlocks him. Joe gets in and side headlocks Fuji. Fuji chops and cubs him.
Fuji throws him on a slam and legdrops him. Toru gets in and kimura's Joe. Toru chokes him and the ref forces a break. Joe's head is banged off the buckles. Fuji boots FW over then hits some bad clubs. Fuji guillotines him and holds him for a shot from Toru.
Toru chops Joe then elbows him in the throat to win.
Thoughts: This wasn't too interesting. The heels had a lot of weak looking offense here (with the finish being an elbow drop to the throat) and won as expected.
Vince McMahon talks after and says he wants Stasiak and Maivia to get 30-60 minutes in a rematch.
Overall thoughts: I liked Stasiak/Maivia and thought Joe Turco really showed off his heeling abilities here. We also had a very entertaining Blassie/Arion interview with Blassie ripping a fan to shreds. The final match was super boring though. I thought it was an okay show for 1970's standards and it was nice to see a star vs star bout.
