AAA on Fox 1/17/2026
This was broadcasted live in Mexico on Fox Mexico and live everywhere else on WWE's youtube channel at 9pm on Saturday. This is definitely a landmark show for WWE and AAA. I know the circumstances leading to this weren't great but being able to get live AAA TV in English has been a dream for a long time.
We are in Mexico City, Mexico. Corey Graves, JBL and Rey Mysterio on commentary.
Rey Mysterio comes out. He talks in Spanish only and calls out Marisela Pena in the crowd. I have no idea what he said and neither did Graves as he didn't translate it. Rye then hugs fans and Marisela Pena.
La Parka, Mr. Iguana & Nino Hamburguesa vs. Los Vipers (Abismo Negro Jr., Histeria & Taurus)
The heels go up to the faces and shove them as they enter.
Nino and BT shove and chop each other. BT spin kicks and headbutts him. Nino lariats him then butt drops him. Negro comes in and Nino corner splashes him. Iguana throws Nino a hamburger and Nino corner cannonballs Negro. Hist trips Nino then stomps him with Negro. Hist spinning heel kicks Nino. Nino is trpped and kicked in the head. Negro top rope dropkicks Nino in the butt.
Nino blocks a double superplex and does a double splash off of it. Parka comes in and lariats Negro. He tilt-a-whirl backbreakers Hist and throws him out. Parka flapjacks BT. Parka hits a spinning spalm on BT for 2. Parka pushes the heels into each other. Ig satellite headscissors Hist, slips and armdrags him down. Parka 2nd rope moonsaults Hist outside.
Nino bodyblocks Hist hard. Nino then tope con hilos the heels through the ropes outside. Ig gets on BT's shoulders and spins into a bulldog on him for the win.
Thoughts: It was a short one with Iguana only getting in at the end. It was a fun match though with the faces flying and them putting over Nino well. WWE has absolutely mastered these AAA opening matches as almost all of them have been good so far.
Penta is interviewed in the locker room in Spanish with sadly no English subtitles or translations.
Lady Shani vs. Flammer
Flam has Lady Maravilla and La Hiedra with her.
Flam armdrags Shani then flying headscissors her. Shani flying headscissors her into a pin. Shani rolls her up into a bridge pin for 2. Flam rolls her into a double stomp. Shani's head is banged off the buckles. Shani chops her then Flam corner lariats her. Flam sliding lariats Shani for 2.
Flam bends over and is kicked. Shani backstabbers her. Shani bodyscissors rolls her around the ring. Shani pulls her arms back and sits on her next. La Hiedra distracts the ref. Lola Vice comes down and hits shots on La Hiedra. Lady Maravilla trips Shani. Shani boots her then Flam dropkicks Shani.
Flam basement dropkicks Shani. Flam then pins her.
Thoughts: It was short and not good. They had a couple of sloppy moments here while only doing the basics. We also had shenanigans with Flammer's crew and Lola.
Next week's show has 3 title matches and an announcement from Penta.
The female interview wants to talk to Vikingo in El Ojo's locker room. Dorian Roldan opens the door and talks then Vikingo opens the door and talks. Rey Mysterio says Vikingo is upset about the fans cheering El Grande Americano but doesn't translate anything else.
Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. comes out to talk. Rey again doesn't translate for us but says he's issuing a challenge. Santos Escobar comes out in a mask and stares down Wagner. They shake hands, Wagner pulls him and is dropped with a forearm shot. Santos then pulls off the mask and says his name. Again, Rey doesn't translate any of this for us.
Dom Mysterio is driving in a car. We get a translated promo. Dominik Mysterio says AAA is exploding on Fox. He says there's more eyes on it than ever before and asks why it's happening. He says maybe it's the celebs like Canelo Alvarez appearing. Dom says they both headlined in Las Vegas at the same time last year when he won the AAA Title. He says he lost his own title maybe due to Bad Bunny or Mr. Iguana. He says everyone loves to listen to him and asks why the arena's are all sold out. He says he's a man who did something his father never could and that's defeating John Cena. He says his face will be everywhere in Mexico and will have banners hanging from buildings and statues created in his honor. He says he will be known forever as The King of the Luchadores.
AAA Mega Title #1 Contendership Match - El Grande Americano vs. El Hijo del Vikingo
Dorian Roldan is with Vik.
They lock up. Vik wristlocks him, GA rolls out and trips him. GA side headlocks him then wristlocks him. Vik tries to roll out but Ga rolls with him. GA takes him down by the wrist. Vik eye rakes him then pounds on him on the mat.
Vik pulls at GA's mask. GA misses a corner charge. Vik enzugiri's him in the corner then basement dropkicks him in the back of the neck for 2. They botch a tilt-a-whirl headscissors. GA chops him and short arm lariats him. GA hiptosses him then armdrags him.
GA punches him in the corner and bangs Vik's head off the buckles. GA hits mounted corner punches. Dorian distracts GA then Vik lariats GA. Vik chokes him on the ropes then Dorian takes a cheap shot at him. Vik stomps on GA in the corner.
Vik hits enzugiri's in the corner. Vik hits mounted corner punches. GA suplexes him. GA lariats him down a few times then back body drops him. Dorian interferes and GA chases him. Dorian runs into the ring and Vik dropkicks GA as he gets in. Vik low dropkicks GA off the apron.
GA is sent into the steps. GA is then sent into the post. Vik top rope 450's him for 2. Vik knuckle locks GA and boots him in the face. GA hits lariats. GA 2nd rope diving lariats Vik. GA pins Vik's legs down and chinlocks him. Dorian disrupts GA and GA lets go.
Vik corkscrew kicks GA. GA step up enzugiri's Vik. GA teases loading his mask but throws it down. GA drops Vik down on his chest off a tilt-a-whirl. GA puts his knees in Vik's back and pulls his chin. Vik flips out into a pin attempt.
Vik hits chops and a spin kick on GA. Vik spinning high kicks him then GA hits a pop-up air raid crash for 2. GA goes for a superplex but Dorian holds Vik on the buckles. GA goes down. Dorian is then ejected. GA slides out and and grabs his foreign object. Omos comes in and stands on GA's hand. Vik then top rope con hilos GA. Vik top rope 630's GA and pins him. Rey Mysterio says he's doing something about this.
Thoughts: The finish was cool with GA going for his foreign object and Omos stepping on the hand to stop him It was an okay bout but somewhat basic. It was one of Vikingo's better efforts though as he didn't overdo it and got a lot more out of a lot less. GA's pop-up air raid crash was a new one that I hadn't seen before.
Vikingo and Omos pose in the ring. GA flying headbutts Vik and knocks him down. GA and Omos stare down. GA flying headbutts Omos twice but Omos stays up. GA tries it again and runs into a big boot from Omos. Rey Mysterio's music hits and he comes out with a kendo stick. Dorian tries to hold Omos back. The heels then leave.
Overall thoughts: It was an alright show overall. WWE really upped the production value, they gave us English commentary and we had a nice mix of wrestling and non-wrestling segments. The big problem with this was the lack of English translations. One would assume Rey Mysterio was supposed to do them or at least summarize what happened but he just didn't. I don't know what happened there as it's as simple as saying, "Rey, translate" but it can be fixed and needs to be fixed going forward.
The opener was short but okay. The women's match was short and ugly. Santos Escobar returned and dropped Hijo del Dr. Wagner Jr. We got an okay main with them likely setting up a Rey/Grande vs Omos/Vikingo match for a future date. I'd give this a 5 out of 10. I'll give them some leeway because it was their first attempt at doing this as a weekly show. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they give us in the upcoming weeks. Getting English commentary for weekly AAA TV is a dream come true as is AAA finally having good production values. They've got a chance to do some great stuff here if they can pull this off and I'll be rooting for them to make this work.
