They are at the Broome County Arena in Binghamton, New York today.
Jesse Ventura and Vince McMahon welcome us to the show. Vince says summer is here and so are the summertime pests. Jesse asks what's White, irish and comes out in the summertime? Jesse says, "patty-o furniture". Jesse said people thinking Hulk Hogan coming back is also funny. Vince promises a special tribute to Hulk Hogan.
Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake vs Mike Durham
Jesse said he's waiting for the day when Brutus' opponent beats him and cuts his hair. Brutus does an inset on Mr. Perfect. He said the only thing better than beating him for the IC title is taking his ego down to a flat top. Brutus shoves Mike over and Mike clubs on him. Brutus sends him into the buckles and Mike does a nice bump for it. Brutus pulls him off the ropes and back body drops him. Brutus slams him and stomps him. Brutus hits mongolian chops in the corner then sleeper holds him. Mike goes to sleep and Brutus gets the win.
It was a quick squash here. Mike took a nice bump and did a good job selling the sleeper.
WWF Update
Mean Gene is wearing his Hulk friendship bracelet. He said our cards and letters are making the difference to Hulk. We then get a tribute video to Hulk. The music then slows down, and we see Earthquake butt dropping Hulk and Hulk being stretchered out. We see Hulk's locker being closed in an over the top package.
The Barbarian vs Scott Colantonio
Barb hits a nice lariat and clubs Scott's chest. Barb pushes him over by the the throat then chops him down. Barb face kicks him then back elbows him. Barb hits a nasty face kick then top rope lariats him. Barb then picks up the win as Heenan says, "count the meat".
It was a quick squash with Barb looking big and bad. I loved the face kick.
Paul Roma and Hercules eat WWF ice cream bars. Paul says only superstars like them deserve the bars.
WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney
They push the 7/14/90 Boston Garden show. Mr. Perfect and Bobby Heenan do a promo on Brutus Beefcake. Perect says once in a lifetime, an athlete like him comes down. He said he knows the scissors have never been sharper but says having The Brain in his corner makes him perfect. Heenan calls Beefcake a dime-a-dozen ham and eggar. He said it doesn't matter when or how they beat him, but they will beat him. Perfect says this is perfection at its finest.
The Bushwhackers do a promo. They talk about Rhythm and Blues calling them greaseballs. Butch says they will play a Bushwhacker tune of their own along with other stuff that was hard to understand.
Demolition (Smash and Crush) vs Paul Diamond and Joe Champ
Three Demolition come out and Vince asks what is going on. Jesse said the third member is Crush and I believe this is Crush's WWF Superstars of Wrestling debut if not his WWF TV debut period.
Crush and Paul lock up with Crush dwarfing him. Paul tries to irish whip him but can't and settles for punches. Paul twisting crossbodies him off the 2nd rope and is caught with a powerslam. Ax calls for Crush to punish him. Paul takes a double gorilla press then Smash hits double axe handles on him. Ax boots Paul outside. The Hart Foundation do an inset promo. Jim says there's 3 Demolition and Hart wants to know which 2 will defend the belts. Hart said this isn't the first time they have triumphed over adversity and will overcome all odds.
Smash throws Paul on a slam then lariats Joe. Crush top rope knee drops Joe then belly to belly suplexes him. Jesse asks who wears the belts since there's only 2 belts and 3 Demo members. Smash double ax handles Joe and Ax helps Smash choke Joe on the ropes. Joe takes a Demolition decapitation and is pinned.
I didn't think this was the best debut of Crush as possible and thought they should have done some videos and stuff to build up to it. This was a clear heel turn and change of character for Demolition here who had been faces prior. Crush looked tough in his debut.
WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney
Sean said Hulk is injured and that intensified the Earthquake/Jim Duggan feud. We see Quake beating up Duggan at Wrestlemania VI. Jimmy Hart and Earthquake are interviewed. Hart said the footage is great and now Duggan knows what a natural disaster really feels like. Quake asks how it feels trying to breathe and have no air coming in. Quake says if he wants to know pain, he will feel it against him. He said he will give him more pain than he felt in his lifetime. He promises to change his life forever.
Dino Bravo vs Tony Ulysses
Vince accuses Jesse of knowing about Crush and not telling him. Dino does an inset promo. He said Tugboat makes him sick. He said Quake put Hulk out of wrestling and said he's going to put the Hulk bracelet on Tug's wrist and put it around his neck.
They lock up and Dino hits boots to the gut. Dino lariats him then atomic drops him. Dino hits a nice backdrop then elbow drops him. Dino side slams him and picks up the win.
It was a quick one and Dino had good looking offense here.
We get a Summerslam promo. The heat returns on Monday night August 27, 1990. Who does a Monday ppv?
The Brother Love Show with The Ultimate Warrior
Warrior runs around on the set and Love does some funny movements to avoid him like it's a dance. Love says he may be champ but Rick Rude beat him for the IC Title and will do it again. Warrior says Rude challenged him a long time ago. He said the poison will flow from his wounds from Rude. He said it will make him and his Warrior's even more of an ultimate power.
Love says Rude will be the next WWF champ and a champion of love. Warrior asks him what he knows about love. Warrior said if it wasn't for the love his Warrior's had for him, he wouldn't be standing here as the champ. He asks him if he can feel the love the Warrior's have for him.
Warrior said he saw a small Warrior around her earlier and brings out a little girl. He said this is what love is all about. He asks her name and she says Amanda Ultimate Warrior. He said the biggest muscle that he has is the heart that pumps the love of the Warrior's. Warrior says to show her muscle and Amanda does a muscle pose. Amanda then does a cartwheel and a handstand. He says he loves her and says this is ultimate love.
This was a very weird segment. I think it maybe designed to show that Brother Love is not actually loving but Warrior is. But who knows. It was a time sink and I don't think it worked or made anyone want to see Warrior/Rude more.
The Orient Express vs Jim McPhearson and Jim Powers
Sato pounds on Powers then Powers back body drops him. McPhearson gets in and is chopped down by Tanaka. Tanaka superkicks him then Sato jumping kicks McPhearson. Sato side kicks McPhearson then hits a liger bomb to win it.
McPhearson was bigger than both Orient Express members. It was a quick one with The Express doing nice kicks and Sato getting the win as he had been with the liger bomb.
"Hacksaw" Jim Duggan vs Duane Gill
Duane Gill would later go on to become Gillberg. Jim hits punches and really sends him flying on a back body drop. Jim runs him over with lariats. Jim does an inset. He said sometimes a man has to do what they have to do and that's why he is taking on Earthquake. He says he hasn't forgotten Hulk.
Jim bangs Gill's head off the buckles and does a nice club on the back. Jim slams Gill then running lariats him and wins it.
It was a short but good squash. Jim's offense looked good here and Gill's sell on the back body drop was nice.
Jim does a wave after and has Hulk friendship bracelets on his 2x4.
WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney
Boris Zhukov does a promo on Nikolai Volkoff. He says he's a disgrace to Russian people and said they were so close to the tag titles. Boris says he will pay for making a fool of him and will need to go through him if he wants his freedom. He says he will crush him.
Hacksaw Jim Duggan does a promo. He said nobody likes the Hulk bracelets more than him. He said Earthquake has been crushing people in the WWF. He said he and others won't sit back and will do something about it. Jim says they will take him down and says this one is for Hulk.
Jesse Ventura and Vince McMahon hype up next week's show. Jesse said Hulk reminds him of a mosquito in the summer because long after he's gone, he still leaves you scratching. He then starts scratching Vince.
Overall thoughts: The big news here was Crush's debut as the 3rd Demolition member. Other than that, there was a weird Ultimate Warrior segment on The Brother Love show that didn't accomplish much and your usual squashes. I wouldn't recommend this one though I found it entertaining.
