Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling 2/25/2024

Drew Abenhaus and Ron Powers are our hosts today. Tonight's main event is Gary Jackson and Gil Rogers vs Devastation Incorporated. 

The Top Guns (Brandon Beretta and Joe Vinetti) vs The Wranglers (Bobby Joe Black and Johnny Joe Black)

Brandon locks up with one of the Black's then Joe arm-wringers one of them. Brandon does a wristlock then shoulders over Bobby. Bobby gets slammed then Joe is dropped on Bobby. Joe is irish whipped and takes a knee from the apron. Johnny chinlocks Joe then Bobby lays on Joe on the ropes to choke him.

Joe takes a double suplex then chinbreakers Johnny. Brandon hits lariats on Bobby then corner splashes him. Bobby misses a corner splash then is spinebustered. Brandon rocket launchers Joe on Bobby. Joe picks up the win.

It was a quick one here with the faces picking up the win as expected. The Black's haven't won a lot on here so this wasn't shocking.

Stephen E. and The Uber Destroyer are interviewed. Stephen said his foreign investors are saying he's not showing the aggression he needs to show. Stephen said Danny Boy needs to keep his nose out of his business. He says he will show him what Devastation Inc is about and that's leaving him bloody. He says Herb is ignoring his calls about the purchase of SICW and Stephen said they have a new logo for SICW. He says the red, white and blue of SICW's letters will be green like the Saudi flag, but there will be some red on it for Gary Jackson's blood. Stephen said we will see aggression and his investors want to see what they are capable of doing. Stephen said people move to the side when they see Uber and Stephen said Danny Boy might have to contend with Uber.

The Uber Destroyer vs Richard Shaw

Shaw wristlocks Uber and Drew says we don't know much about Uber. Shaw hits back elbows then is corner splashed. Uber hits punches to Shaw's gut then chokes him. Uber boots Shaw then bangs his head off the buckles. Uber chokes him then release germans him. Uber puts Shaw in the claw and pins him with it.

It was a quick squash with Uber mostly doing some simple shots and a german.

Uber keeps the claw on after and Drew says it can do permanent damage. Stephen decks a ref after and Ron Powers is asked how he can be expected not to get involved here.

Drew says we need to take a break to let Ron cool off. Ron threatens to shove the saudi flag in Stephen's @ss.

Bill Apter hypes up Fanfest II.

Drew interviews Superstar Steve Fender. Steve asks him what he wants, saying he invited him out here. Stephen said he is the Central States champ and should be the #1 contender for Greg Anthony's AIWF World Title. He says Greg is ducking him and said he is challenging the AIWF National Champ, Lou gotti instead. He said when it happens, he will be a 2x champ. Steve said he's bringing his a-game against Lou and then says he's coming for Greg Anthony.

Steve said Herb Simmons fined him a thousand dollars. He said it's nothing once he becomes champ and said he will be paying $2,000 for haircuts. Drew says they will both get a haircut for that money. Steve says he's not funny and the fans aren't funny either. Drew says Stephen E. is banned from the TV main event tonight for attacking the ref. 

"Superstar" Steve Fender vs Billy McNeil

Billy headlocks Steve and Lucky P. Larson joins us on commentary. Billy headlock takeovers him then handstands out of a headscissors. Billy pounds on Steve then back elbows him. Billy misses a jumping double knee then Steve kicks him. Steve kneebreakers Billy then stomps him.

Steve bangs Billy's knee off the mat then locks up his leg. Steve dragon screws Billy then butt drops the leg. Billy hits shots back then is kicked in the knee. Larson says he's a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. Steve drives Billy's knee into the mat and Larson tells Billy just to give up. Billy hits forearms on Steve then leg lariats him.

Steve clips Billy then Billy cradles him for 2. Billy back elbows him and Larson says Billy has talent, but is stupid. Billy gets caught off the ropes then rolls up Steve from behind. Steve puts Billy in the world's greatest deathlock and taps him out to win.

It made sense with Steve working the knee before winning it with a knee submission. Billy could have been a little better on his comebacks here.

Danny Boy Hawkins and Ron Powers are interviewed. Danny calls Stephen E. a dark cloud hanging over SICW. He said he wants to keep this Saudi deal from happening. Ron said there's a lot he has reflected on. He said he doesn't know if this is them anymore and says the unspoken rule is that family is first. Ron said they did everything for their families but their age helped them gain wisdom. Ron said the days of the camera's being on them are over. He says he misses them but your family is what you try to make happy everyday. Ron says you can always go to your family no matter what. Ron said he's seeing Danny's old attitude come back. Ron said this is something serious and it scares him. He said things are getting out of hand and doesn't know if this is the path they should go down. He said he doesn't want to see Danny get hurt.

Danny said they have been through thick and thin. Danny said they agreed they are done with this but Danny said this is a different circumstance. He said they had a phone call in 2012. Danny said they have a family outside their family here in SICW. Danny said this isn't just a match or a circumstance, this is us against them. Danny said he is not going to let this happen and let Stephen E take over what they started. Ron said this is something he may need to think about. This was a good promo that continued to push the possible return on Ron Powers and this story about the Stephen E. takeover of SICW.

We see a message from Bull Bronson. He said he is making his return to SICW and he's coming to help Big Texan.

The Top Guns and Gary Jackson are interviewed. Brandon says everything they have dealt with over the last year paid off. Joey said he can't believe it's real and said he couldn't have done it without the fans. Gary congratulates them and said they will represent SICW in the best way possible. Gary says get on the band of SICW because they are going places. He said if you don't have a ride, call Night Train and he will pick you up. He tells Stephen E. and Sean Vincent that they are getting the band back together. He says good luck and says their run has just started. Gary said he doesn't care who he and Gil have to face. They don't make excuses, they take care of business. He said that's why he has to go, so they can go over the small details. He then blows his whistle and says "all aboard the Night Train".

Devastation Incorporated (Atilla Khan and Payton Ayres) vs Gary Jackson and Gil Rogers

Stephen E. isn't at ringside due to being banned for knocking out a ref. Gary hammerlocks Payton then armdrags him. Gil 2nd rope elbows Payton's arm then wristlocks it. Gary hits shots on the arm then Khan eye rakes Gil. Khan hits a headbutt then takes shots back.

Gary hits shots on Khan then takes a lariat. Khan fist drops him then eye rakes him. Payton eye rakes Gary then chokes him in the corner. Gary yanks him down by the beard then Gil pulls Payton's arm down over the top rope. Payton hits a big fallaway slam on Gary then Khan hits punches on him.

Payton sends Gary into the corner chest first then Gary rolls over his back to make the tag. Gil hits punches on both opponents then hits dropkicks. Khan hits a shot to Gil's throat and throws him over the top. The ref then DQ's Khan for throwing him over the top.

Gary takes a 2v1 then Texan comes in and beats up the heels. Khan and Texan fight it out outside then Texan hits some shots on Payton. Gil and Gary back Khan up 2v1. 

It was a very basic main and wasn't too interesting with a dirty finish. The crowd was not super into this.

Overall thoughts: The Danny Boy and Ron Powers interview was the best part of the show. Steve Fender also worked the knee of Billy McNeil to victory. Not a lot happened on this one and I wouldn't recommend it.
