Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling 2/4/2024

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/01/southern-illinois-championship_28.html

Drew Abbenhaus and Ron Powers are our commentators. No Lucky P. Larson today.

Johnny Joe Black vs Shawn Douglas

Black is in the jean shorts and Shawn is in the black tights. Black hammerlocks him and wristlocks him. Black armdrags him then hits la magistral. Shawn hits some punches out of the headlock then throws Black back. Shawn hits punches and sits on his neck over the 2nd rope.

Shawn hits some kicks then Black corner lariats him. Black chinlocks him then Shawn chinlocks him. Shawn crossfaces him then hits a low double knee to win it.

It was short and not that good. Shawn didn't hit his finisher clean here but commentary did a good job of putting him over.

Destiny Lynch interviews The Top Guns. Joe is in the short trunks, Brandon is in the single.t Joe said things got hectic the last time they met The LA Hustlers. Joe said they let their emotions get the best of them. He said they meet them again on February 9th. Brandon says they have Billy McNeil on their team tonight and will beat The A-Team. He said they will do everything in their power to become tag champs against The LA Hustlers.

Wrex Amadeus vs Atilla Khan

Wrex is in the green and Khan is in the black. They lock up. Wrex blocks a corner punch and hits forearms. Wrex running forearms him and headbutts him. Khan headbutts him back. Khan clubs him and snapmares him over. Khan chinlocks him and rakes the eyes.

They say Stephen E., Khan's manager has backers in the middle east. Khan hits a double throat thrust and knee drops Wrex. Khan gutwrenches him then taps him out with a grounded cobra clutch.

It was a quick squash. Khan's offense looked pretty good here.

Khan puts the cobra clutch back on him after the bell and Wrex is buried under Khan's flag.

Atilla Khan and Stephen E. are interviewed. Stephen said that's an example of what happens to people who cross him. He said he has the contract of the most dangerous man in wrestling, Atilla khan. Stephen said his investors aren't happy with the way things turned out a few weeks ago but they know he can get the job done. Stephen said when Devastation Inc. shows up, they can get the job done. He says Payton Ayres will get the job done and said he has something for Danny Boy Hawkins for putting his hands on him. Stephen says when you got the money, you got the power and when you got the power, you make the rules. Stephen says they will walk out with a victory at the next show. Stephen tells Herb Simmons that he has a standing offer to buy the promotion and said Skandor Akbar taught him the strength of the US judicial system.

Promoter's Corner - Wrestling at The Chase - Ken Patera vs Tommy Sharp

Sharp tries to go after Ken before he gets his gear off. Ken looks great here. Ken goes out to get his entrance gear off as Sharp won't let up. Ken headlock takeovers him then double underhook rolls him. Sharp wristlocks him then takes him down via the leg. Sharp twists the ankle and elbow drops the leg. Ken's knee is injured here and the announcer Larry Matysik talks about it.

Ken hits boots to the head and bangs his head off the buckles. Ken bear hugs him then Sharp claps the ears to get out. Ken hits a knee to the gut then a knee to the spine. Ken forearms him in the spine and slams him. Ken elbow drops him for 2.

Ken clotheslines him then full nelsons him. Ken wins via submission.

It was only about 6 minutes long or so and was mostly a squash. Nothing too great but they did a good job with the basics. Ken had a nice full nelson.

Wrestling at The Chase - 8-Man Wrestle Royale

We join this in progress and see Buzz Tyler go out. Kerry Brown is back body dropped over the top. Dick the Bruiser takes on Takachio and Mike George. Mike double axe handles Bruiser in the back then Bruiser takes a 2v1. Taka hits bad chops on Dick and chops Mike on accident. Bruiser then throws both over the top at the same time and wins it.

We only saw 2-3 minutes of this. It didn't look that great but it was nice to not see people sitting in the corner waiting for things to happen. Takachio would later go to become The Great Kabuki.

Glenn has the bald head and beard, Shawn is in the burgundy outfit

Shawn Vincent and "Big Nasty" Glenn Williams are interviewed. They are called "The A-Team" and the announcer pronounces it as "The Eh Team", getting them upset. Shawn said they beat The Top Guns multiple times already and said they should be the front runners for the tag titles. Shawn said if Bobby D had more potassium in his diet, his knee wouldn't cramp up so much. Glenn said their goal in 2024 is to become the tag champs. Glenn said he will put Brandon in the greco-roman Glennplex and throw him like it's dollar beer night. They say they shouldn't stop at the tag titles, they should get all the titles. Glenn said they started 2024 with wins and said the winning tour continues tonight as they mow over The Top Guns and Billy McNiel. Glenn says they want next on the tag titles. They talk about their partner Austin Mulitalo and say he's the Missouri champ. He said they are all winners.

Glenn's a great promo and has a lot of personality.

Billy Joe Black vs Gary Jackson

Black is in the flannel. Gary Jackson is from Petticoat Junction and blows a train whistle. Gary backs him up in the corner and Drew tries to talk Ron Powers into wrestling again. Gary side headlocks him then shoulders him over. Gary blocks a hiptoss and hits one of his own. Gary shuffles and hits an armdrag.

Black lariats him for 2 then side slams him. They say Gary is 62, which is impressive. Gary back elbows him then slams him. Gary misses a corner charge then snapmares him. Gary pulls his neck forward. Gary then taps him out with a texas cloverleaf variation.

It was a short squash here and Gary looked good out there.

Gary Jackson is interviewed. He says happy new year to all the fans. He said if it wasn't for the fans, there wouldn't be no SICW. He thanks Herb Simmons and said it would be chaos and confusion without him. They say Stephen E. is trying to gain control of SICW.

Gary said he's putting the band back together and said he told Stephen E. he has friends in the back too. He said there is no way he will let Stephen E. take SICW from Herb Simmons. Gary said he's here to fight Stephen E. and said he has friends and is ready to go. Gary said Rule #1 is him and his friends are coming to win, Rule #2 is they won't lose and Rule #3 will do their best to beat him. Gary then says Rule #4 is don't forget the rules. This was a fun little old school promo.

Sean Vincent, Glenn Williams and Austin Mulitalo vs The Top Guns and Billy McNeil

Sean wristlocks Billy. Billy rolls out, kips up and wristlocks him. Joey wristlocks Sean. Billy top rope double stomps Sean's arm then rolls him up. Austin gets in. Billy throws Austin in the corner and Austin back elbows him. Austin hits corner spears then takes chops. Billy is yanked out of the corner and does a nice move to get up.

Billy step up enzugiri's Austin. Billy forearms Glenn in the corner then Brandon splashes and bulldogs Glenn. Brandon clubs Glenn's back. Glenn is tripped and takes elbow drops. Billy chinlocks Glenn then is kicked in the back on the apron.

Billy is put in the tree of woe and takes a baseball slide and basement dropkick. Glenn camel clutches Billy over the 2nd rope then Sean slides down his shoulders. Sean grounded abdominal stretches Billy. Billy's legs are split then billy jawbreakers Glenn. Brandon is tagged in and hits nice lariats. Brandon dropkicks Austin. Glenn boots Brandon in the corner.

Brandon TKO's Glenn. The Top Guns go for a rocket launcher but The LA Hustlers come down and interfere, causing a disqualification. Joey takes a big chokeslam. Curtis Wylde comes in and helps out The Top Guns then Kowalski comes in to fight with Wylde. Diggs chokeslams Brandon and Joey. The Big Texan comes out and the heels leave.

It was a fun match. Due to them having a lot of squashes and short matches, when you do get a longer match with more moves like this one, it sticks out. Brandon Barretta had a good showing here with some nice lariats and some extra fire. I didn't mind the dirty finish as it tied in all of the stories going on and was exciting.

Overall thoughts: It was a fun show as usual by SICW. No, it's not going to make anyone's MOTY lists, but it's good old school wrestling. Drew's a great announcer, the promos were good and the heels and faces know what they are doing.
