TNA No Surrender 2024 2/23/2024

TNA No Surrender 2024 2/23/2024

Here's what I saw:

Pre-Show - The Rascalz (Trey Miguel & Zachary Wentz) vs. Speedball Mountain (Mike Bailey & Trent Seven)

Mike gets nailed from behind early and sent out with Trent. The Rascalz hit stereo topes then take stereo shots outside. Trey slides out and Mike top rope moonsaults him outside. Trent then apron dives on Wentz. Mike gets clipped inside by Wentz. Wentz works Mike's ankle then ddt's it. Mike's legs get split then Trey hits mounted punches. Mike gets put into a split then he takes kicks from The Rascalz. The Rascalz then double stomp his back for 2.

Mike dropkicks Wentz off the buckles then Trent back body drops Trey. Trent exploders Wentz then release exploder Trey onto Wentz. Trent emerald flowsion's Trey for 2. Mike triangle moonsaults outside onto Wentz then Trey takes a superplex + top rope ssp. Of course, that's only worth a 2 count. Trent 7 star lariats Trey.

Mike gets on the buckles and has his feet pulled on. Tren then figure four germans Mike. Trey catapults Mike into a Wentz kick then Wentz double stomps Mike off the buckles. Trent ddt's Wentz. Wentz pumping knees Mike then handsprings into a superkick. Steve Maclin runs in and chop blocks Mike. Wentz leglocks Mike and taps him out to win it.

I didn't like this one. They did too much and it had a dirty finish, which shouldn't really be happening on the pre-show.

Pre-show: Kevin Knight & KUSHIDA vs. The System (Brian Myers & Eddie Edwards) (w/Alisha Edwards)

Kush rolls at Brian then rolls out of a wristlock. Kush takes him down by the air then knee drops the arm. Brian is tripped into a standing frrogsplash. Kevin hits a nice dropkick on Eddie. Kevin armdrags Eddie then Kush bangs Eddie's arm off his shoulder. Kush headscissors and headlock takeovers Eddie.

Kush hiptosses Eddie into an armbar. Alisha Edwards gets onto the apron then Kush is hit by Eddie from behind. Brian chinlocks Kush then Brian back elbows Kush. Eddie chops Kush then chinlocks him. Kush hiptosses Eddie and wants to tag out but Kevin is down. Kush is distracted by Alisha then Kevin trips Eddie. Kush kicks Eddie in the arm. Kevin springboard double lariats his opponents.

Kevin jumps over a double clothesline and hits a double pele kick. Kevin corner splashes Brian then hurricanrana's him from the mat while Brian is on the 2nd rope. Kush has Brian on his shoulders and Kevin dropkicks Brian for 2. Brian implant ddt's Kevin. Kevin and Brian fight up top. Eddie rakes Kevin's back.

Kevin takes a backpack stunner and a top rope elbow drop from Brian for 2. Brian hits a big lariat on Kush then Kevin rolls up Brian for 2. Brian hits another big lariat on Kevin and Eddie shining wizards Kevin. Brian picks up the win.

I thought it had some good stuff but went on a little longer than it needed to.

#1 Contenders Match - Frankie Kazarian vs Eric Young

Kaz tells the announcer to say he is the King of TNA. Eric headlock takeovers him then Kaz slams him down on the mat. Kaz back elbows him and slaps him. Eric back elbows him then takes a knee to the gut. Eric knees him in the gut then they clothesline each other down.

Eric throws Kaz then Kaz backdrops him. Kaz russian legsweeps him for 2 then suplexes him. Kaz slams him then misses a springboard legdrop. Eric hits lariats and a spinning lariat. Eric hits a death valley driver for 2. They fight up top, Kaz is knocked down and Eric top rope elbow drops him.

Kaz legdrops Eric over the 2nd rope then slingshot ddt's him for 2. Eric goes to slingshot in and takes a cutter. Kaz backstabbers Eric then samurai drivers him for 2. Eric crucifixes Kaz and gets the win.

I wasn't a big fan of this one. Eric was mad at Kaz for turning on him but didn't really show it much here. They made this a #1 contender's match at some point, but that was never said on TV as far as I know. If they were going to make a #1 contenders match, they could have used that as part of this feud instead of just the generic heel turn on the face. The match was a little slower and nothing special. I also felt Kaz could have used the win here more than EY due to him turning recently.

Kaz beats up the ref after then other refs and security come out to stop him.

The Grizzled Young Veterans are interviewed. Gibson said they came to TNA for this match. Gibson said this won't be pretty and ABC won't enjoy this. Drake says times up and tells them to grit their teeth when they see them coming.

TNA Tag Titles - Best of 3 Series - Match 3 - The Grizzled Young Veterans vs ABC (Ace Austin and Chris Bey)

Ace and Gibson start us off. Ace goes up and over and hits boots and stomps in the corner. Ace chops him then takes a baseball slide to the knee and face. Drake then jumps off of Gibson's back to dropkick Bey. Drake hammerlocks Ace's arm with his feet and snaps back.

Bey top rope double crossbodies his opponents then Ace uses Bey to kick Gibson. Gibson is tripped into a Bey double stomp. Drak takes a baseball slide + russian legsweep then a legdrop + splash. Drake and Bey trade forearms then Bey takes a double team stun gun. Bey's neck is catapulted into the bottom rope.

Gibson suplexes Bey then chokes him on the ropes. Drake double axe handles him while he's bridged on the ropes. Drake neckbreakers Bey. Drake blocks Bey's sunset flip then chokes him on the ropes. Bey 2nd rope dropkicks Gibson. Drake superkicks Bey then chokes him with a scarf.

Drake chinlocks Bey and throws him over the back with a sleeper. Bey rolls up Gibson then spinning neckbreakers him. Drake sleepers Bey. Ace gets tagged in and beats up Drake. Ace springboard double dropkicks The Vets. Ace then fosbury flops outside on Gibson. Ace high kicks Drake and bangs his head off the mat. Drake is slammed and takes a Bey frogsplash. Drake takes double spin kicks then a ddt from the shoulder. Ace corkscrew swantons on Drake.

Bey is thrown into Drake but Drake catches him with a sleeper. Gibson armlocks Ace at the same time. Gibson is thrown over the top. Ace then takes a tope doomsday device on the floor. Bey fights off a 2v1 then enzugiri's Gibson. Bey suplexes Drake then springboard fameassers Gibson. Bey takes a codebreaker while seated on the 2nd rope and Drake coast to coast dropkicks him while he's in the codebreaker.

Drake is pushed off the top onto the ropes then Ace chokes Gibson with the scarf. Bey is lifted into a double cutter then Ace twisting headhunters Drake to win it.

The match was okay. I liked seeing Drake bust out the coast to coast dropkick, the tope doomsday device was cool and the twisting headhunter was also neat. I feel like they could have upped the pace some here. I don't like the booking of The Vet's. They just came to TNA at the last PPV, where they lost. They then lost this series too. Maybe there's some bigger plan in the works or maybe they are just here temporarily, but on the surface, it doesn't look good to debut a team and have them lose multiple times.

Steve Maclin and The Rascalz do a promo. They celebrate tapping out Trent Seven and Mike Bailey earlier in the day. Maclin says Nic Nemeth will never be seen in TNA again. Bailey and Seve nthen come in and have to be held back.

PCO vs Kon

The fight starts on the ramp. PCO splashes him and bangs his head off the buckles. PCO lariats him and Kon gets back up. PCO is lariated then he gets back up. Kon is lariated then sent out. PCO tope con hilos through the ropes but Kon swats him down. PCO lands hard on the floor.

Kon chokeslams PCO on the apron and PCO no sells it to nail him. PCO lariats Kon down then lariats him over the top, going with him. Kon is laid on the apron and PCO goes for a swanton but Kon moves. PCO takes a hard fall down. Kon chairs PCO and is disqualified.

Kon chairs PCO more after then twists his head. Kon throws the timekeeper around. PCO then gets out of a pile of chairs. They grab each other by the throat and Kon is pushed over the top. PCO tope con hilos him then chairs him. Kon low blows him then backdrops him on the stage. Kon zip ties PCO to the entrance way then twists PCO's neck with the chair.

I normal don't approve of no selling but I can excuse a lot of it here since the point was that these two are unbeatable monsters. I was looking forward to this and it's a shame we only got a little of it before the DQ. Obviously, it isn't the end of it. What we did get here was fun but it did go into overkill mode a bit.

The Motor City Machine Guns talk to Kushida and Kevin Knight in the back. Alex says Kushida can handle a loss. He said he needs both of them on point tonight as it depends on them. Kushida tells Sabin not to come out and asks them not to throw in the towel. Sabin tells them to take care of his boy and says not to throw in the towel. Alex says to give him a chance to become champ.

Knockouts Tag Titles - Decay (c) vs MK Ultra

Havok and Masha hockey fight then Rosemary goes after Kelly. All 4 girls get on the floor. Havoc hits a backbeaker + clothesline combo on Masha. Masha takes corner moves and Rose exploders Masha. Rose bites Masha and Kelly pulls Rose out. Masha double springboard double stomps Rose.

Kelly slams Masha on Rose then Rose slams Kelly on Masha. Kelly hits slaps on Rose then takes a rainmaker lariat. Kelly and Rose mount each other, go head to head and trade shots. Rose takes a face kick + legsweep combo.

Masha short arm lariats Havoc and they trade shots. Masha lifts Rose for a suplex and is pulled down backwards off of it. Havoc lariats Kelly then headbutts her. Havoc facewash kicks both opponents in the corner then death valley drivers Kelly for 2. Kelly takes a spinebuster + headbuster. Masha northern lights bombs Rose and wins it.

It didn't get enough time and was just average. Nothing too great or exciting here.

MK Ultra nail Decay with the titles after and beat them down. Dani Luna and Jodi Threat come out to make the save.

The System talk in the back. Brian said they pulled him out of the corner city stretch to keep him fresh. Moose says under no circumstances should they throw in the towel. Moose says The System only works if they roll on all cylinders. Moose says he's going to enjoy his last opportunity to beat up Shelley. He said they will show the world to Trust The System.

Josh Alexander vs Simon Gotch

Josh blocks Gotch's takedown then Gotch side headlock takeovers him. Josh side headlock takeovers him. Josh is headscissored then chinlocks him. Josh goes for the ankle lock and Gotch ropebreaks. They trade chops and euros. Josh euros him down and Gotch hits a spinning kneelift.

Gotch sentons Josh on the apron. Josh is on the floor and Gotch jumps off the apron to elbow drop him. Gotch headscissors Josh. Josh hits four germans then Gotch back elbows him. Gotch face kicks him and sentons him. Josh crucifixes him.

They slap each other and Gotch enzugiri's him. Gotch hits forearms then is chopped. Josh boots him out of the corner and 2nd rope dropkicks him. Gotch springboard enzugiri's him. They trade forearms on the apron and Josh face kicks him. Gotch kicks him down then misses an apron senton. Josh then crossbodies him while he sits on the apron.

They trade forearms and lariat each other at the same time. Josh spinning forearms him and face kicks him. Josh exploders him. Gotch sunset flips him and turns it into a bulldog choke. Gotch then pulls on Josh's headgear and sleepers him with it. Josh's headgear comes off and he ankle locks Gotch. Josh powerbombs him on the knee then jay drillvers him for the win.

It was longer and slower than it needed to be. Gotch is just one of those people that is hard to get excited about and should not have been in this position here. I didn't think the match was that good and I was happy when it ended.

AJ Francis goes up to Rich Swann in the back. He said it must sting to see Josh thrive while Rich is losing on Xplosion. Rich asks him what his problem is. AJ said just because they are opponents on Thursday, doesn't mean they have to be enemies.

No Surrender Match - TNA World Title - Moose (c) vs Alex Shelley

This is basically a throw in the towel match. Moose has Eddie Edwards, Alisha Edwards and Brian Myers for his seconds and Alex has Kushida and Kevin Knight. The seconds aren't allowed to interfere or their man is DQ'd. Alex rushes him and hits a shot flurry. Moose misses a corner charge and is sent into the 2nd buckle. Moose rams his shoulder into the top buckle then Alex fujiwara armbars him.

Moose goes over the top in a failed charge then Moose powerbombs him on the apron outside. Moose bow and arrows Alex around the post. Alex eye rakes Moose then chop blocks him. Alex pillmanizes Moose's leg, starting at Bryan Myers as he does it. Eddie Edwards swats a chair away but they said he didn't touch the chair, so it's okay.

Alex is pushed in the post then Moose goes into the post Alex puts Moose's fingers in the turnbuckle connector then uses a wrench on his fingers. Moose eye rakes him to get out. Moose punch flurries him out of the headlock. Moose puts Alex's hand in the buckle pad and chairs the buckle.

Moose chairs his hand again in the turnbuckle pad. Alex dragon screws Moose's leg over the 2nd rope. and dragon screws him again. Alex kendo sticks Moose's knee then single leg crabs him with the kendo stick behind the leg. Brian Myers gets on the apron, teasing a towel throw in then Eddie grabs the stick from Alex. Moose uranages Alex. Alex bites Moose up top then powerbombs him on the bottom of a trash can.

Alex figure fours Moose then Moose reverses it. Eddie gives Moose a kendo stick and Moose uses it to get out. A table is set up in the corner and Alex low blows Moose. Alex puts Moose in the border city stretch and Brian puts knucks on Moose's hand. Moose hits Alex with the knucks. Moose misses a spear in  the corner and goes through the table.

Alex puts Moose in the border city stretch with a chain. Kushida and Kevin Knight get in the ring and Knight dives on Brian and Eddie. Alisha Edwards gets in the ring and takes Kushida's towel. Alex pushes her and grabs the towel. Moose then spears Alex twice.

Moose wraps the chain around him and spears Alex with it. Moose taunts Kushida, trying to make him throw in the towel. Kushida then throws in the towel and Alex is defeated. Moose then spears Alex again anyway.

I didn't like this. The seconds weren't allowed to interfere but basically did by handing weapons out and taking them away, then they all got in the ring anyway. It defeated the whole purpose of the match and turned it into a joke. It's a shame too because Alex and Moose were trying here and I wanted to see them have an epic war.

Jake Something does a promo. He says the x-division title is where it belongs inb the main event. He says he's watching the match close and is taking the x-title in 2024.

TNA X-Division Title Match - Chris Sabin (c) vs. Mustafa Ali

Ali comes out with personal security guards. Ali backs him up off the lock up and lets go. Ali flips out of wristlocks then Sabin armdrags him. They then stand off. They trade armholds and Ali back elbows him. Ali headlock takeovers him and shoulders him over. They dropkick each other at the same time and stand off again.

Sabin headlock takeovers him then shoulders him over. Sabin does a surfboard then lariats him over. Sabin hits punches then Ali cutters him over the top rope. Sabin headscissors him off the apron to the floor. Sabin top rope crossbodies him then side headlocks him. Ali chinbreakers him and flips over him in the corner. Ali top rope 450's his arm then crossfaces him.

Ali works the arm and Sbin germans him. Sabin flying kicks him then Ali spinning heel kicks him. Sabin PK's him and both men go down. Sabin hits lariats then diving tornado ddt's him off the 2nd rope. Sabin rolls him up then crucifixes him. Sabin then turn it into a crossface.

Sabin hits mounted punches. Sabin climbs the ropes and takes an upkick. They fight on the buckles and Ali is pushed and backflips to the floor. Sabin comes off the apron and is dropkicked from the floor. Ali is sent into the middle buckle face first.

Sabin takes an enzugiri in the corner then kicks Ali while he springboards. Sabin goes to crossbody Ali off the top but ends up nailing his guards outside. The Good Hands come out and taunt Sabin. Ali knee lifts him and is superkicked. Sabin nails The Good Hands on the apron and Ali rolls up Sabin for 2. Ali takes a stun gun then is flipped with a lariat.

Sabin cradle shocks him for 2. Sabin superkicks him and crotches him on the top rope. Sabin jumps up to the 2nd rope and is sunset bombed off the ropes. Ali 450's him and wins it.

The finish was good. Ali worked the arm a lot earlier and completely forgot about it which brought down the match. There were a few unnecessary flips here as well. I didn't think it was that good and it felt like the finishing stretch wasn't long enough.

Overall thoughts: It was a disappointing show that wasn't that good. The crowd was disappointing and rather quiet outside of the Ali match. The main wasn't that good. Shelley/Moose was supposed to have no interference but was filled with it. Gotch/Alexander wasn't that interesting. The women's tag title match was average. Kon/PCO overdid it some but it was an entertaining sideshow fight. The men's tag title match was okay, but the Vet's losing so much so early isn't good. Kaz/Young wasn't good either. I didn't get why Nic Nemeth wasn't on this show (I know he was in Japan) when him and Maclin has been built up all month long.
