WWE NXT 2/6/2024

WWE NXT 2/6/2024

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/01/wwe-nxt-1302024.html

Booker T is out due to surgery so Byron Saxton is on commentary.

Carmelo Hayes comes out. The crowd really boos him. He goes to talk and says "not yet" then leaves.

Bron Breakker and Baron Corbin are presented with The Dusty Cup. Bron asks the ring announcer to announce them as the winners. She announces them as "The Wolf Dogs" can Baron asked how much he paid her to say that. Baron says nobody in the company can stop them, except maybe the top rope to Bron. Bron said stuff goes wrong and says to congratulate Baron over his first dive ever. Baron says he would have never made it over the top if he didn't give him a boost. Baron says they won the cup so they get a tag title shot. They call out Tony D and Stacks, but Axiom and Nathan Frazer come out.

Axiom and Nathan Frazer vs Malik Blade and Edris Enofe

Ax and Enofe start us off. Ax rolls out of a hold then Enofe dropkicks him. Ax 2nd rope armdrags him and dropkicks him. Ax and Enofe get superkicked hten Blade and NF forearm each other at the same time. They lariat each other at the same time then both do stereo dives outside.

Blade top rope lariats NF. We go to break and return. Blade takes a lariat to the back of the head then a ddt. Ax headbutts Enofe in the gut then goes for a sleeper. Enofe is lariated on the ropes then takes an enzugiri and german. NF spinning lifting neckbreakers Enofe for 2. NF back elbows him, trips him then hits a springboard shot on him. NF running ssp's him for 2.

NF is crotched up and Enofe knees Ax. Blade dropkicks NF while he sits on the top rope. Blade catches NF's crossbody off the top then fallaway slams him. Blade powerbombs Ax for 2 then does a sitout powerbomb. Enofe hits a high elbow drop off the buckles on Ax for 2. Enofe jumping double knees NF then Ax top rope spanish flies Enofe. Ax phoenix splashes Enofe for 2.

We go to PiP break and return. NF superplexes Blade and holds on for a brainbuster with an Ax superkick. Ax and NF come off the top and meet boots from Blade. Ax takes a coriolis. Blade goes up top and is pushed off onto the floor, taking a nasty looking landing. Enofe misses a top rope splash. NF phoenix splashes Enofe then Ax hits a golden ratio kick to win it.

It was fast paced and action packed as expected. I thought they did too much here and didn't sell enough of it. Blade took a nasty bump to the floor, landing on one leg and may have hurt himself.

Bron and Corbin throw Axiom and NF out after.

The D'Angelo Family come out after. Corbin and Bron say they want their title match next week and Stacks says they got it.

Ilja Dragunov is interviewed in the parking lot. He says now is not the time to have a conversation. He said he wants to speak to Melo and get some answers.

Ilja Dragunov comes out He said him and Trick went to war. He says he likes and respects Trick but says he could not allow him to slay the dragon. He said it's his duty to call out Carmelo Hayes. He said we can see his true colors and said he couldn't stand to see his friend reach higher heights than him. He said the fans gave it to Melo verbally, but said he will go beyond breaking him. He calls him a traitorous son of a b!tch. He tells him to come out or he will find him himself.

Dijak comes out instead. He asks why Ilja's so obsessed with Trick and Melo. Ilja said this is not the place and time and he's not the man he wants. He makes fun of Ilja's nickname. He said he learned what it takes to break a man through Joe Gacy. Ilja advises him to step out of his way. He said when their paths cross again, he will suffer like never before. Dijak then hits him and security breaks up their fight.

Thea and Jacy are talking about the Chase U calendars. Thea said she should go watch Riley's match next. Jacy said she's worried Thea is coming off too desperate and needs to come off hard to get. Thea doubts this and Jacy asks when has she ever been wrong?

Von Wagner and Mr. Stone talk. Von said his training was for nothing and he's mad at losing to Dar. Stone said he's more mad at the way Dar talked to his kids. Stone's kids then jump all over him and say he's the best. Von says he's not finished with Dar and the kids say Stone should fight him. The kids and Von chant "tag team". Stone says "one time" and everyone celebrates. The kids tell Stone "sneak attack".

Riley Osborne vs Lexis King

Riley forearms him and double legs him. Riley goes up and over and back body drops him. Riley hits chops then fosbury flops him outside. Riley is pushed off the apron onto the commentary table. Riley slingshot double stomps him then does a running kitchen sink to the back of the head.

King does a grounded abdominal stretch then Riley hits flying attacks on him. Riley slams him and hits a leg lariat for 2. Riley goes up top, has his leg superkicked and takes the coronation ddt.

It was short and wasn't anything too special. Thea Hail wasn't in the crowd for this and Riley was distracted as he looked for her.

We get a video on Kelani Jordan. She said they have the best women's division, but she's not afraid of anyone. She said she refuses to settle for anything less.

Izzi Dame and Kiana James go to the girl's locker room. She said a bunch of future nobodies are watching a nobody in Kelani Jordan. Kiana says everyone is just happy to be here but that doesn't cut it for her. Brinley Reece walks in. She said Kelani is so cute and is drinking some kind of coffee. Izzi said it looks like Kiana could use a drink. Izzi tells Reece to give her Kiana her drink. Kiana says she doesn't like coffee and throws the drink in the trash.

We go to the ring and Carmelo Hayes is sitting in it. The crowd chants "you're not him". Melo asks why nobody wants to hear his side of the story. He said he's not jealous of Trick, he allowed him to succeed.and wanted him to make his parents proud. He said when Trick got close, he had to take it from him so he could remind him of his place. He said Trick tried to bite the hand that feeds him and said he crossed Melo first. Melo said Trick broke their agreement by going for the NXT title when he said he would go for the N-A title while Trick went for the NXT title. He said they are not on the same level. He said Trick went behind his back and went to get something that belonged to him. He said that's when he knew he had to do what he did. He then said he attacked Trick and would do it again.

Trick's music hits but Melo said it was a trick. He said Trick ain't coming back and is in the hospital with Booker T. He said he's the coldest and said nothing happens on this brand without being run through him. He said Trick wanted to be like Melo but is nothing but a trick. Melo said this was never a collaboration and said Trick was always his hype man.

I didn't have any issues with this. It made sense and was all true.

We get a video. It says a man has three faces - one the world sees, one the family sees and the real one nobody sees but reflects the evil he possesses.

We get a video on Oba Femi. He said he's head and shoulders above the rest and the giant of NXT.

Riley talks to Thea and Jacy in the back. He said he didn't see them in the crowd and lost his match. Thea said she had other stuff to handle and Riley asked if they are still on for Valentine's Day. Both of them get excited. Jacy said this needs to stop and tells her to relax. Jacy said she will tell her what to do.

NOTE - I think I missed the segment where Riley and Thea agreed to a Valentine's Day date. I've tried to find information on it but haven't had much luck at that either.

Roxanne Perez vs Lola Vice

Vice misses a spin kick and is thesz pressed. Perez topes her then hits a top rope crossbody inside. Perez hits mounted shots then Vice knees her in the gut. Vice hits a kick combo and hip attacks her. Perez hits strikes and running euros her. Perez hits mounted punches. They trade kicks and Vice gets on the 2nd rope and kicks her while she is up top.

We go to break and return. Vice hits forearms and knees to the gut. Perez rolls her up and hits her own forearms. Perez basement dropkicks her then hits an asai moonsault for 2. Perez rolls her, knocking her face off the mat then running euros her. Perez grabs a sleeper and backs her up into the corner to get out. Vice uraken's her for 2.

Taum Paxley comes down with Lola Vice's expired Breakout Tournament contract. She wants to cash it in. Vice spin kicks her then Perez hits pop rocks on Vice to win it.

Tatum coming out try and cash-in an expired contract was unusual, but that's Tatum. The match was fine for what it was, but nothing too memorable. Looks like Vice and Tatum are going to be feuding.

Meta-Four are interviewed. We have Lash/Jakara vs Fallon/Wren tonight. Lash said no one is worried about Wren Sinclair and said she got lucky to eliminate her at The Royal Rumble. Jakara said Fallon Henley should know better. Dar laughs at the challenge from Von/Mr. Stone. He said they are all of the sudden a dream team now but says Meta-Four are the real dream team.

The No Quarter Catch Crew come in. They want a shot at The Heritage Cup and don't think Dar should be giving shots to someone he beat already.

Fallon Henley and Wren Sinclair vs Jakara Jackson and Lash Legend

Fallon has new music that is hard to hear and easy to ignore. Lash and Fallon start us off. Lash forearms her then Fallon gets her on her back with a sleeper. Wren top rope crossbodies Las hand is caught. Fallon dropkicks Wren and knocks Lash over. Lash bearhugs Wren and JJ back elbows Wren. JJ knocks Fallon off the apron and Wren headlocks JJ.

Lash forearms Wren then holds her on the ropes so JJ can butt drop her back. Lash bangs Wren's head off the mat then standing splashes her for 2. Wren takes boots in the corner from both opponents. JJ pulls Wren's arms back and Wren back rolls her.

Fallon gets in and hits euros and punches on JJ. Fallon uses the ropes, casadora's Lash then does a dropkick + bulldog combo. Fallon does a spinning facebuster on JJ. Fallon and Lash play tug of war with JJ and Fallon is pushed into the ropes. JJ shotgun dropkicks Fallon. Lash powerbombs Wren and gets the win.

I thought Fallon was pretty good here. The match was just average for the most part though. Fallon is frustrated after.

Briggs and Dion Lennox (haven't seen him in a few weeks) talk in the back. Jensen comes in. He said he's never been better. He asks if he saw Fallon's match and Briggs said you win some, lose some, she's doing her own thing. Briggs says he'll catch him later. Jensen said he's lost without them and is struggling. He said he needs them. Briggs says being sad won't help him. Briggs pushes him against the lockers and said the world doesn't revolve around him. He tells him to learn to stand on his own two feet. He said there's a performance center waiting to replace him and tells him to either sit and cry or grow some balls.

The problem with this one is that it does kind of seem to be the case in reality. Jensen is the odd man out of this group's split. Fallon's got a lower ceiling to hit and Briggs is always going to get chances because of his size. Jensen needs good booking and does best if he's with other people.

Jaida Parker talks to Ava Raine. She said this is not going to end this way with OTM and The D'Angelo Family. Jaida wants Rizzo next week. Ava said nobody can be at ringside for that one.

Ridge Holland talks to Ava. He asked if she saw what Gallus did to them last week. He says "give me Gallus". Ava said not to cut her off and says she won't give him Gallus 1v3. She said he can do a gauntlet against them, but if he loses to either of the first two, he doesn't get the 3rd.

Dijak vs Ilja Dragunov

They trade shots to start. Dijak back elbows him then they chop each other. Ilja gemrans him. Dijak pounds on him more then bangs his head off the buckle. Ilja's head is pushed into the buckle. Ilja comes back with chops then spinning chops him. Ilja flying knees him then 2nd rope knee drops him.

Ilja face kicks him and throws him down. Dijak superkicks him while he's on the top rope. Dijak clubs him outside then drops him with a punch inside. Ilja got cut off of this. We go to PiP break and return. Dijak chinlocks him. Ilja headbutts his way out and hits forearms. Ilja misses an enzugiri then has his face banged off the mat. Dijak kind of hits a GTH but they keep going and superkick each other.

Ilja jumping front kicks him and Dijak spinning face kicks him. Ilja enzugiri's him. Ilja gets him on his shoulders. Dijak face rakes him and is death valley drivered in the corner. Ilja's face is bleeding more now then Ilja top rope sentons him for 2.

Ilja kicks him in the back while he's down then does facewash kicks. Ilja hits a chop flurry then slaps him as DIjak grabs his throat. Dijak knees him then sitout chokeslam bombs him for 2. Dijak pounds on him while he's down and Ilja grabs him by the throat. Dijak grabs him by the throat and Ilja headbutts him.

Ilja spinning chops him in the chest, leg and back. Ilja tiger feint's and gets lariated off of it. Dijak springboard elbows him then takes a flying knee. Dijak hangs over the apron and Joe Gacy comes from under the ring. He hits him with a boxing glove on a stick, laughs and slides back under. Ilja hits an h-bomb and wins.

It was a good TV match. This had an unusual ending with the Gacy/Dijak feud still not being over. Ilja and Dijak are a pretty good match for each other. I liked the brutality of this one with them hitting any body part they could find and them grabbing each other by the throat. I feel with more time and more selling, they might be able to have one of the best matches of the year. But Dijak has indy wrestling instincts that he has never been able to break that prevent that.

Ilja holds his title up after. Melo comes out, clips him and pounds on him. Melo then grabs the title and nails him in the head with it. Melo then holds the title up and poses.

Overall thoughts: This was the first show after the ppv and they had to continue some stories while pushing some new ones. If you were looking for answers to burning questions, this wasn't the one for you. The show had a lot going on though. The opener and the main were the main matches of note here. I thought they did too much in the opener, though the chemistry was there. The main was good but they also maybe did a little more than they needed to. I'd probably give it about a 6 out of 10.
