Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling Mayhem 7/15/2026
This is the debut episode of MLP Mayhem. It aired at Midnight in Canada on 7/15...which would mean it actually aired on 7/16, but everyone is counting it at 7/15.
We are in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. Don Callis and Mauro Ranallo are our hosts.
Don Callis and Mauro Ranallo talk in the ring to start the show. Mauro says Canada finally has a wrestling show on TV again. Don says daddy's back. Mauro says this ring is open to wrestlers from around the world and is in the ultimate proving ground.
We get a video with Scott D'Amore talking about wrestling and showing old NWA clips. He says Canada helped shape wrestling for decades and now a new flame guides us forward. He says it's not about the past but fighting for what comes next.
Interim MLP Canadian Title Match - Stu Grayson (c) vs. Jonathan Gresham
They say the MLP champ Josh Alexander is out with an injury so this is for the Interim Title. Stu holds the title in the crowd. They trade some basic holds. JG takes him over and la magistral's him for 2. Stu side headlocks him then shoulders him over.
They chop each other. Stu hurricanrana's him then dropkicks him. Stu sweeps him on the apron and slingshot swantons him on the apron. We see Rohit Raja watching this in the back. They shake hands. JG tries to boot him and is stopped. Stu chops him and hits corner spears.
Stu backdrops JG. JG rolls him up for 2. JG pulls his arms back. Stu throws him over. JR dropkicks him in the knee and bangs his foot off the mat. JG figure fours him and Stu ropebreaks.
Stu is irish whipped and goes down. JG celebrates and Stu lariats him. Stu chops him and JG step up enzugiri's him. Stu step up knees him and overhead belly to belly suplexes him three times. Stu misses an asai moonsault. JG goes up top and Stu underhook suplexes him down. Stu hits a flying pumping knee. Stu torture rack backbreakers him and wins.
Thoughts: I didn't like this one that much. Gresham's a boring guy and Stu's not exactly Mr. Charisma. This didn't really impress and there wasn't any great logic to it. This was not a good match to start this first broadcast off with. I also think it's dumb to have Stu be the Interim champ as it just complicates things to people who haven't seen this promotion before and makes Stu look lesser.
Rohit Raja claps in the back. He asks if he is supposed to be impressed or entertained. Raja says he's supposed to be the star and he's stuck watching Stu. He says Stu is just the meat and he won't stop until he feasts.
We get a promo from the MLP Women's champ.
We get a video on Psycho Mike. They have one of his teachers talking about his intensity and says it was like his mind was somewhere else. He says Mike was always different and he always wondered what he'd be like when he grew up.
Thoughts: If you didn't see MLP before, you'd think this was just some weird infomercial about donating to a kid's charity.
Gama Singh Jr. does a promo. He says it's fitting that MLP features the only second gen star in the company. He tells the people to shut up. He says he will continue the Gama Singh legacy against anyone who is willing to come down the ramp.
Rhino vs Gama Singh Jr.
Gama hits punches and bangs Rhino's head off the buckles. Rhino shoulders him over. Rhino lariats him and back elbows him. Rhino spears Gama and pins him.
Thoughts: It was just a quick squash and not much more. We'll see what comes of this but this isn't a good way to introduce Gama as a serious wrestler.
We get a video on the MLP Tag champs, 1st Faction. They say the future belongs to the strongest and most valuable and they proved it at MLP Uprising. They say they aren't desperate to be loved or respected. They say the old guard has fallen and this isn't a movement, but a takeover. They say they don't want to be part of MLP but want to own it all.
Stu Grayson says repping MLP feels heavy. He says he must be the symbol of excellence and lead the country into a bright future. He says Canadian wrestling can't afford to mess this up. He says training for a guy like Gresham is impossible and he went on instinct. He said he thought the only way he could beat him is by outlasting him. He says he went from a guy holding no gold to a guy repping MLP. He says he feels like he has to outdo himself every single night. He says Northern Rising on 10/3 is another chance to prove himself.
Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson) vs Jesse Bieber & Jonny DeLuca
Zach cravates and headlocks JB. He then shoulders him over and hammerlocks him. Zack pulls on his arm, fingers and hand then splits his fingers. Johnny comes in and side headlocks Zack. Zack lariats him over. Johnny is bridged on the ropes and Drake top rope double axe handles Johnny's back.
Johnny hits forearms on Drake. Drake headbutts Johnny's forearms away then drops him with one. Johnny takes corner attacks then a spinning heel kick. Zack hits forearms on Johnny and foot chokes him. Zack pulls on his face.
Johnny dropkicks Zack. JB slingshot spears in on Zack. JB hits punches on Zack. JB is tripped into a boot to the head then Drake leg lariats Johnny from Zack's back. JB takes a double codebreaker and is pinned.
Thoughts: It was a quick squash. The jobbers were treated like goofs and lost easily. It wasn't much of note.
Johnny TV does a video. he says when a network needs a star, they know who to call. He says welcome to his show. He says the pressure of carrying an entire series is exhausting. He says TJP feels like a supporting actor and looks like the final boss in an energy drink commercial. He asks people ask what brings him here and he says what brings oxygen to fire? He says to tune in next week to the season debut of Johnny TV.
We get an ad for MLP Northern Rising.
I won't be covering the main. Big Alice Crowley lost in the title match. I don't think this was the best match to run as the main event of a first television show.
We then cut to the parking lot. Stu Grayson checks on a girl who is down. Raja attacks him and they fight. Stu's head is banged off some pieces of metal and he is choked. Stu dropkicks him and lands on a box. Stu hits punches and Raja's girl low blows him. Stu is sent into the side of a truck. Raja says welcome to my kingdom.
Overall thoughts: I didn't like the show. Gresham and Grayson aren't the most exciting guys and having them do a longer opener based around technical wrestling wasn't the hot start they needed. I found that match to be boring to be honest. We got a video on Psycho Mike that you would never know was even wrestling related if you hadn't seen MLP before. Rhino squashed Gama Singh Jr., making him look like a goof. The Grizzled Young Vets then won a squash. I didn't cover the main event, but I don't think that bout was the best choice for the main event on a first show.
The show was built heavily around ROH guys who never make AEW TV and people who had left AEW. We didn't get as much introductions to new talent as I thought we would get. I don't see this show doing that well and it definitely didn't hook me in. If I were doing this show, I would have featured some of the newer guys more. I would have had some Canadian legendary wrestlers like Bret Hart appear if possible and I think I would have done more to make it clear that this is not AEW developmental, as that's what really what it came off as. I was also disappointed that this show didn't feature more Canadian's since that this show is supposed to be a Canadian wrestling show. This show being on at midnight on a weekday is also an absolute death sentence for ratings as very few people will be awake for it. I'd give this a 4 out of 10 and I wouldn't recommend it. This was not good.
