WWE Monday Night Raw 8/19/2024

Randy Orton comes out to talk. He welcomes us to the show and says he will be a 15x champ the next time he does that intro. He said he had no choice but to RKO Gunther last week.

Gunther comes out. He tells the fans to shut up. He asks Orton if he is celebrating hitting an RKO on him. He tells him to celebrate as it will be the only thing he celebrates. He said the only thing Orton achieved was to make this personal. He said he will leave him a bloody mess and exposed as a very successful one trick pony at Bash at Berlin.

Orton says he Gunther will take an 8 hour plane ride with a size 15 boot shoved up his @ss. Ludwig Kaiser attacks Orton and is thwarted. Orton hits shorts on Gunther then Kaiser clips Orton. The heels then pose over Orton.

Thoughts: It wasn't anything too special here and was pretty much by the numbers.

Sheamus is interviewed. He said Pete Dunne hit him with his own shillelagh but says there will be retribution tonight. His hand is all wrapped up. He says he has a few tricks still left to teach these young thundercats and asks the crowd if they are ready for a banger.

Sheamus vs Pete Dunne

Sheamus misses a boot and takes forearms from Pete. Sheamus lariats him over then Pete hits forearms and chops. Pete is caught on a leapfrog and takes an alabama slam. Pete enzugiri's him from the apron and hammerlock ddt's him. Pete pulls on Sheamus' fingers then Sheamus does a powerbomb on the knee. Sheamus knocks Pete off the apron and sends him into the commentary table.

They fight outside, Sheamus tries to get in and is dropkicked off the apron. Pete dropkicks him outside then stomps his hand on the steps. Pete hits boots and slaps to the face as we return from break. Pete hits a mounted forearm flurry.

Sheamus running double axe handles him and running lariats him. Sheamus corner lariats him then slams him. Pete splits Sheamus' fingers and clubs on his chest. Sheamus then clubs on Pete's chest. Pete step up enzugiri's him then is caught with a pumping knee off a 2nd rope moonsault. 

Pete running sitout powerbombs him. Sheamus has his hand put in the buckle and Pete pounds on him. Pete pump kicks the hand and Sheamus rips the buckle off. Sheamus brogue kicks Pete and wins.

Thoughts: This was a good one here. I liked the finish and thought it was creative with Sheamus getting his hand put in the buckle. Pete did his usual finger and hand work here which made sense since Sheamus had an injured hand. 

The New Day and Odyssey Jones talk in the back. OJ wants to get a win for them. Kofi asks if Woods is okay and says Kross is trying to drive a wedge. Woods says he wishes Kofi would have talked to him about bringing in Jones as it feels like Kofi is trying to replace Big E. Kofi says it's not about that and says they are family. He says nothing will change it and says Jones is in the same boat they were in. Jones shakes Woods' hand and pulls him in hard and Woods says he's okay.

We get a Bron Breakker video with various highlights of his and him talking trash.

American Made talk to Ivy Nile in the back. Chad says this is his real family and said Ivy made the best decision of her life in getting rid of Max. Ivy said Max had it coming to her. Chad says after Ivy breaks Malibu Barbie, they will end the failed experiment of Alpha Academy. They say they will then send The Wyatt's back to the swamp. 

Maxxine Dupri vs Ivy Nile

Max dropkicks her out and sends her into the rails. Max suplexes Ivy on the floor then sends her over the commentary table. Ivy high kicks her when they get back in and hits mounted shots on her. Ivy hits a forearm and boot flurry.

The lights then go out for The Wyatt's. American Made and The Wyatt get in the ring. Nikki Cross attacks Ivy and the two factions fight. Chad is left in the ring alone and surrounded. Uncle Howdy hits a sister abigail on Chad and The Wyatt's pose over Chad.

Thoughts: There was no real finish here. The match wasn't much but nobody embarrassed themselves.

Damien Priest and Rhea Ripley do a video. Priest says The New Judgment Day tried to take them out. He said they stood their ground while Judgment Day ran. Priest says Liv and Dom's days are numbered and they will receive their punishment. Rhea says there's nowhere to run or hide. Rhea says Dom will find out it was them keeping him safe the entire time. Rhea says Liv hasn't taken everything from her and just became a discount Rhea Ripley. Rhea says The Terror Twins will put them through the mat. 

CM Punk comes out to talk. He congratulates The Florida Panthers on winning The Stanley Cup. Punk talks about Fanaticsfest (an autograph convention they had) and talks about fans from far away coming to see him. He said he missed the fans for 10 years and is excited to be back here in Florida. He said fans like these drive him. He said fans hand him bracelets and said he's Taylor Swift for men.  

Punk says Drew McIntyre is obsessed with him. He said he made Drew a bracelet and shows a leather strap. He said he talked to Adam Pearce and wants a strap match at The Bash in Berlin. He says he wants to whip him and take his bracelet back. He wants to leave him with lasting scars so he won't forget the name of CM Punk.

Drew McIntyre comes out. Drew said Punk embarrassed him last week. Drew asks if Punk started drinking. Drew says he accepts the match but says he can't wait a whole week. He says he needs a receipt and asks if the crowd wants a teaser of their match now. Drew tells him to lose the strap and says they will give them a show. Punk says we should give them the full motion picture this week. He says he will give Drew the strap if he gives him his bracelet. Drew says no and calls him a liar. He says there's not a chance and says "April and Larry" are much safer and happier at home with him. Punk says Drew won't be safe in Berlin and says Drew is attached to him.

Thoughts: It was a decent segment and made sense with them setting up a strap match. That should be a good one.

Liv and Dom talk. Liv says they are the most dominant couple in the history of WWE. She says it will be them on top which is where they like it. Dom says he wants to go 1v1 with Priest tonight. He says he's not the same Dom that Priest used to boss around. Dom says he won't have his crew with him if Priest is man enough.

The New Day and Odyssey Jones vs The Final Testament (Karrion Kross, Akam and Razar)

Kofi hits shots on Kross. Kofi splashes him multiple times then Kross forearms him. Kross forearms him then Kofi 2nd rope twisting dropkicks him. Scarlett trips Kofi on the apron. Kross death valley drivers Kofi.

Razar rams Kofi into the buckles. We go to break and return. Kofi hits shots on Kross then Kross overhead suplexes him. Akam goes shoulder first into the post when Kofi moves. OJ gets the hot tag in and clears off the heels. Woods is mad he didn't get the tag in.

OJ headbutt drops Akam. Kofi corkscrew kicks Kross. Razar hits a crackerjack on Kofi then Woods top rope elbow drops him. Woods takes a uranage then OJ black hole slams OJ for the win.

Thoughts: We didn't get to see a ton of it but it was a decent tag here. OJ got a lot of shine and didn't look out of place. I popped for the crackerjack. 

Rhea Ripley and Priest talk in the back. Rhea says Priest vs Dom feels like a trap. Priest agrees but says it'll be worth it to get their hands on them. Priest says they won't stop until they pass judgment on Judgment Day.

We get a video on Wild Samoan Afa.

Adam Pearce talks to Miz. He says he doesn't like Miz fighting Reed tonight. He says Reed is only here as Miz asked for this. Adam says he won't give him this unless he really wants it. Miz says he doesn't know and says if he were him, he'd suspend Reed and ban his top rope splash. Miz said Reed took out his friend Truth and says he fights for his friends. He says he doesn't know if he wants to do this, but he has to do it.

Thoughts: This was a quick one but was a good promo from Miz.

No DQ - The Miz vs Bronson Reed

Miz hits punches and takes a bodyblock. Miz hits chair shots and Reed punches a chair away. Reed chops him then runs into the post. Miz throws weapons in the ring. Miz hits Reed with a kendo stick shot. Reed blocks a shot and breaks the stick.

Reed slams Miz on a trash can. Reed cans Miz then sits on a chair and puts his foot on Miz's neck. We go to break and return. Reed charges the corner and goes into a chair between the ropes. Miz hits some shots and chairs Reed in the gut. Miz tornado ddt's Reed on a chair for 1.

Miz hits kendo stick shots on Reed. Miz rams the stick in Reed's throat. Miz is caught on a springboard. Reed lariats Miz then Reed death valley drivers him through the table. Reed hits a top rope splash on Miz and wins.

Thoughts: It was on the shorter end but it made sense and nothing was wrong with this big man vs smaller man match.

Reed goes up top again and Braun Strowman comes out. They stand off and we cut away.

Sheamus is interviewed. He said his hand hurts and said Pete Dunne went toe to toe with him. Ludwig Kaiser interrupts. Kaiser asks why they are wasting time talking to the opening act when they could talk to the man who will beat Orton in the main event tonight. Kaiser says when he's done with Orton, he will come back to Sheamus so they can settle this once and for all. Sheamus says broken ribs and a smashed skull weren't enough for him. Sheamus says he knows where to find him anytime he wants to finish their trilogy. He says he will have a pint and watch him take an RKO.

Dom heads to the ring.

Bron Breakker is interviewed. He said there will be a tournament to determine his next challenger. He said Adam Pearce can't stand that he's progressing through the roster at such a fast rate. He says Adam wants to slow him down with a tournament. He says it's not his fault he's a genetic freak and a bad@ss. He says it's not his fault he earned the title. He says he will spear whoever wins this through the floor and give them a beating of a lifetime. He says that'll be his fault.

Dominik Mysterio vs Damian Priest

Judgment Day jumps Priest as he comes out but he's ready for them and knocks them down. Priest chairs Carlito in the gut and Finn begs off. JD grabs the chair and is thrown. Priest superkicks Finn and Carlito.

Dom finds himself between Rhea and Dom. Rhea headbutts Dom then Priest forearms Dom down. Rhea grabs Dom outside and Liv chairs Rhea. Judgment Day group on Priest. Rhea is thrown into the post and over the commentary table. Rhea is thrown into the post then Finn top rope double stomps Priest. Liv hits oblivion on Rhea. Dom top rope frogsplashes Priest.

Judgment Day do a promo. Finn says that was a taste of what will happen to both of them in Berlin. Dom and JD said Priest was champ because of Judgment Day and now aren't. Liv says Dom has been all man and says she will make her b!tch at The Bash in Berlin.

WWE Women's Tag Ttiles - Alba Fyre and Isla Dawn vs Pure Fusion Collective (Zoey Stark and Shayna Baszler) vs Damage Ctrl (Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane)

Iyo forearms SB down and 4 girls fight. Alba and Isla are dropkicked out and the match officially starts. Sane headscissors SB off the ropes. Sane is popped up and maybe botches a dive out. Iyo then hits a double tope outside. 

We go to break and return. Sane ddt's Zoey off the suplex attempt. Iyo comes in and hits shotei's on everyone. Iyo running back elbows Alba. Iyo pringboard double dropkicks Isla and Zoey. Iyo hits double meteora's in the corners.

Alba boots Iyo out of the corner. Alba takes a double superplex for 2. Sane spears Alba. Zoey rolling death valley drivers Iyo then SB sliding knees Iyo. Sane hits a top rope double crossbody on PFC.

Sane and SB trade forearms. SB sleepers Sane. Sane uraken's her. SB stops a top rope elbow drop. SB chokes Sane then is held for an Alba top rope swanton. Alba then pins SB.

Thoughts: It was shorter and fast paced tag here. It was fine but there was just too much going on for it to be anything great. I'm not liking PFC losing after just being created.

Gunther and Kaiser talk in the back.

Jey Uso is interviewed. He said Sami had to take time off and clear his head. He said he'll be back with a vengeance. He said Sami said if he can't be champ, it doesn't mean Jey can't be champ. Jey brings up Bron Breakker and says he put his name in the hat for the IC Title. He says the next time you see him, he will have the IC title.

We get a package on Pat McAfee, who is leaving for a while to go do College Gameday again.

Randy Orton vs Ludwig Kaiser

Orton side headlocks him then shoulders him over. Orton side headlock takeovers him. Kaiser chops him then Orton fallaway slams him. Orton hits euros then corner punches.

Kaiser hits euros outside then Orton chops him down. Kaiser's head is banged off the commentary table. Gunther appears in the timekeeper's area and distracts Orton. Kaiser kicks Orton in the leg. Kaiser backdrops Orton on the commentary table then throws him into the steps.

Kaiser dropkicks Orton's knee into the steps. We go to break and return. Kaiser stomps the knee then yanks the leg. Kaiser butt drops Orton's leg. Kaiser is pushed over the top. They fight outside and Orton's head is banged off the steps.

Orton lariats Kaiser on the floor. Kaiser is backdropped on the commentary table multiple times. Orton powerslams him. Kaiser stunners him over the top rope and step up enzugiri's him. Orton bridging ddt's him. Kaiser rolls him up off an RKO attempt then Orton RKO's Kaiser. Orton then picks up the pin as Gunther watches.

Thoughts: It went a little longer than it needed to here. Kaiser worked the leg some but then kind of dropped it.

Orton draws an imaginary line in the sand in the ring and looks at Gunther. Gunther comes in and they fight as the show ends.

Overall thoughts: It was a decent Raw. The wrestling was good though the storylines are just so-so at the moment. The Judgment Day feud isn't that great and Gunther/Orton is not a real exciting program. Sheamus/Dunne was my pick for the match of the night.
