WWF Superstars of Wrestling 8/11/1990

WWF Superstars of Wrestling 8/11/1990

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/03/wwf-superstars-of-wrestling-841990.html

We're in Omaha again. Vince says it's the cornhusker state and Jesse has more corn on his toes than there are in the fields. Jesse said he came to bury the Warrior. He said he's being stalked by Rick Rude and he'll be shocked at Summerslam.

The Legion of Doom vs Randy Jackson and "Pistol" Pez Whatley

The LOD have the "ohhhh what a rush" line here which I think is new at this point. The jobbers get rushed as this starts. Demolition do an inset. They said the LOD is looking for a fight. They say to be careful what they wish for as they might get it and say they are next after they fight The Harts.

Hawk hits a flying shoulder on Randy then fist drops him. Hawk does a dangerous slam on Randy then Animal hits a great dropkick on Randy. Hawk powerslams Randy then legdrops him. Jesse and Vince argue over whether the same Demo members have to stay in for all 3 falls in their match with The Harts. Randy takes a doomsday device and gets pinned by Hawk.

Randy was lucky to survive this one as he took some sloppy moves from Hawk. Animal had a real nice dropkick here. I don't think Pez even got in aside from being rushed at the start.

WWF Update with Gene Okerlund

We see the "Lithuanian" Nikolai Volkoff receive a medal last week from The Boy Scouts, which we saw last week. Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Volkoff do a promo. Jim says he's proud of him and the boy scout troop. Volkoff says this medal is the best present he got all of his life because it's a present he stands for and fights for.

We join Sargeant Slaughter at boot camp. He is asked about Volkoff receiving a medal. He says the Boy Scouts are little pukes. He said if you support Volkoff, you are a puke. He said the only declaration he ever knew was the declaration of war. He said he will declare that at Summerslam. He said he will be there with a real American, Brother Love. He said he demands you give us your attention and respect at Summerslam.

"Texas Tornado" Kerry von Erich vs "Iron" Mike Sharpe

Mike hits some clubs in the corner then takes a lariat. Kerry hits punches then hits a discus punch. Kerry then gets the pin.

This was just a quick squash here that didn't do much but establish the discus punch.

Mr. Perfect vs Randy Fox

Randy is shoved into the corner. Perfect and Heenan do an inset. Perfect said it doesn't matter who his opponent is at Summerslam because they won't be Perfect. Perfect hits chops on Fox and snapmares him. Perfect then pulls Fox's neck forward. Perfect hits a standing dropkick then lariats him in the face. Perfect hits a perfectplex and wins it.

It was another quick squash here and there wasn't a lot else to say about it.

Kerry von Erich comes out after. He gets the mic and challenges him for the Intercontinental Title. Perfect asks "who is this?" and doesn't seem impressed. Jesse is upset about this, saying Kerry needs to earn it and accuses him of looking for a cheap way to get to the top.

WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney

They shill the 8/18/90 Boston Garden show. Nikolai Volkoff does a promo. He said everyone will be happy when he waves his flag in the flag match and said Boris is going down.

Hercules and Slick do a promo. Herc said some people need it, got to have it and some people live on it, but he doesn't care about it. He said he doesn't need to hear the fans cheering. He said Hillbilly Jim is in trouble when he gets in the ring with him. He said he doesn't care how big he is, because that's the way he likes it. Slick says Jim is a big, strong and smart man but he doesn't have any heart and it takes heart to be a winner.

WWF Update with Mean Gene Okerlund

Gene runs down the Summerslam card. Dusty Rhodes does a promo. He said when Savage made Sapphire kiss his feet, he knew he'd have to fight Dusty. He said let's get down to it and get it on. Bobby Heenan and Rick Rude do a promo with a cage. Heenan said it's a shame Warrior will only hold the title for 5 months. Rude says it will only be them in the cage and says he will use the steel cage bars to beat Warrior. He said his destiny is to become WWF champ.

Jimmy Hart, Earthquake and Dino Bravo do a promo. Hart says the Hulkamaniac's better be behind Hulk because it'll be the biggest mistake of his life. Quake says he's got a lot of pain and earthquakes to give Hulk. He said Hulk has already made the biggest mistake of his life and will be out of the WWF for good.

Hulk Hogan and Tugboat do a promo. Hulk says he's getting stronger every day. Hulk said Quake is taking him lightly and didn't get the work done the first time. Hulk says he won't let Tug down. Tug said he doesn't want him coming back too soon and wants him to be ready. Hulk said his arms are like the pyramids in Egypt and said if he had to backstroke for 40 days, he'd have enough energy for Summerslam.

"The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase vs "Jumping" Jim Brunzell

They try wristlocks on each other. Ted side headlocks him and shoulders him over. Jim is hiptossed and armdragged. Jim does a nice leapfrog and a monkey flip. Jim armdrags him and Ted slides out in frustration.

Ted is slingshotted in then he lariats Jim. Ted stomps on Jim and bangs his head off the buckles. Ted powerslams him then puts the million dollar dream on him. Ted then picks up the win as Jim goes to sleep.

It was a fairly competitive short match here with Jim getting more in on Ted then Ted did to him.

The Brother Love Show

Love says he has a man who lacks vision and is a little shortsighted. He then brings out The Ultimate Warrior.

Warrior points to his fans in the crowd and grabs Love by the tie. He asks him what he sees and Love says "more Warriors". Warrior said because of his visions, he walked into The Ultimate Challenge as a challenger but left as a champion. He said he will feel the love of the warriors in the cage and said he will leave the cage the champ.

The Orient Express vs Koko B. Ware and Ricky Rice

Rice had done work for the AWA and Stampede but it's odd to see a superstar paired up with him. We usually don't see that.

Koko hiptosses Tanaka then headbutts him. Koko slams him then takes shots to the head. Tanaka misses a corner charge then Rice double axe handles Tanaka's arm. Sato knees Rice in the gut. The Orient Express do an inset. Fuji said he's happy Duggan and Volkoff are teaming up as they can destroy two Americans in one night.

Tanaka superkicks Rice then does his flying corkscrew forearm move to him. Jesse doesn't seem to approve of Volkoff being a naturalized citizen. Sato drops his body on the neck of Rice then does a great side kick. Sato sitout powerbombs Rice and wins it.

The Express looked good as usual here in this squash. I really wonder why they had Koko in here. Maybe they were short a wrestler?

Sweet Sapphire said she now has received a diamond ring. She said she loves it.

WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney

They shill the 8/18/90 Boston Garden show. Demolition do  a promo. Ax calls The Hart's "The Crybaby Foundation" and said they have a new crybaby. Ax said every time the Hart's lose, it's a new excuse. He said they will blame Duggan now. Crush says it sounds like the last act of a desperate team. Crush says they will eat a "Duggan Sandwich" that day - two Harts on one side and a big goof Duggan in the middle. Smash says they will shove Duggan's 2x4 down his throat.

Dusty Rhodes does a promo. He says Brother Love has joined as a servant of The Macho King's court. He said he got Miss Elizabeth in his corner. He said Sapphire will be ready for The Rumble. He says he will do something to Brother Love if he gets in the way.

The Big Boss Man vs Paul Diamond

Jesse asks if Sapphire or The Big Boss Man weighs more. Paul has some very 1990's tights on that look like they came out of a coloring book. Bad News Brown does an inset, calling him a tobacco chewing, KFC eating, spineless cockroach. He said he won't be saving Jake and Damien at Summerslam.

Boss misses a shot and takes boots. Paul slides between his legs and hits punches. Boss hits a great high boot to the face. Boss leg lariats Paul on the ropes. Boss hits a sidewalk slam and wins it.

It was a quick squash here with Paul getting a decent bit and looking good.

Like a great babyface, Boss handcuffs Paul to the ropes. He threatens him but doesn't hit him with the night stick.

WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney

They shill the 8/18/90 Boston Garden show. Jimmy Snuka talks about Rick Martel being a model. Snuka said he likes to work out and get in shape for his opponent in the ring. He said when the time comes for thier match, we're gonna see.

Randy Savage and Queen Sherri do a promo. Savage says Dusty is worse than a peasant and is setting records for stupidity and ignorance. Brother Love comes in as Savage says Sapphire is in trouble now. Love says he will take care of Miss Elizabeth and says Sapphire will find out how much love is in Brother Love.

Jesse and Vince close the show. Vince said we got more than our share of corn from Jesse. He hypes up next week. Jesse said Vince is the only guy in the world who wants to check out his feet. He said everyone else wants to check out his biceps. Vince says it's the smell.

Overall thoughts: Summerslam is 2 weeks away and the card is set. Kerry von Erich wants an Intercontinental Title shot and Sapphire continues to receive gifts. There weren't a lot of updates or new scoops otherwise here. The matches were also all squashes as usual. I wouldn't recommend this.
