Ring of Honor on HonorClub 3/7/2024 Episode #54
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/03/ring-of-honor-on-honorclub-2292024.html
I haven't been watching ROH. There's too much stuff to watch and the things I hated about it showed no signs of ever being fixed. It's been 5 months. Has anything changed? Let's find out.
ROH Women's World Television Title Tournament Quarter Final Match - Leyla Hirsch vs. Red Velvet
They exchange shots and LH backs her up. LH takes her over and goes for the armbar. LH pulls her down by the hair. Red is caught on a leg lariat then backdropped. LH goes up and over then red takes her over.
Red hits punches in the corner then gets slapped. LH clubs her and foot chokes her. Red hits shots to the gut then corner spears her. Red slaps her then splits while she foot chokes her. LH hits a nice shotgun dropkick and gets stuck up top.
LH does a hanging choke then Red iconoclasms her for 2. Red stomps LH's arm into the mat then legdrops it. Red keylocks her then superkicks her. LH superplexes her and they trade shots on their knees. Red hits shots then leg lariats her. LH goes over her back and germans her. Red germans her back then lariats her.
Red trips her into the 2nd rope then double knees her on the ropes. LH hits a stiff knee to the face then does a run up the buckles moonsault for 2. Red sunset flips her and picks up the win.
This was the best match I've ever seen either of these two girls have. It was aggressive with a lot of fire. They really went at each other here and everything had some extra snap to it. I would have never expected to like this, but I really did. You would never expect this one from Red's weekly offerings. They really should find a way to air this on AEW TV.
The Infantry do a promo with Trish Adora. They said have no fear, The Infantry is here. They said they have a new logo, new merch and new money. Bravo puts over Dean's sunglasses and asks him to do poses. Bravo asks Dean how he feels and he said he feels like an idiot. Bravo said that's how you should feel when you do things that are original. Trish said you can go to bootcamp if you are going to steal their stuff. Bravo says have no fear as The Infantry is here again.
Abadon vs Judie Azul
Ab charges at her and hits forearms. She meteora's her in the corner. Ab sliding lariats her then misses a corner charge, going face first into the buckles. Azul facebusters her for 2. Mercedez Martinez gets on the ramp then Ab falls over while superkicking her. Ab flying knees her then ddt's her while holding the arm. Martinez asks if that's all she got. Ab wins it.
It was a quick squash here and Ab didn't hit her stuff clean.
Serpentico and Angelico go up to Maria in the back. Serp goes to grab her phone and talks in spanish. Angelico said his knee is 100% and tells her to get her boys so they can fight now. Maria said she gave her boys the night off. She said they don't face losers and said Serp and Ange haven't won in a while. She said they should win a match and she will think about it. I never like heels saying stuff like that which is derogatory but true.
Lee Johnson vs Jon Cruz
Jon got a full entrance here. Cruz jumps Lee while he's posing and corner stomps him. Lee hits double chops and Cruz takes him over out of the reverse ddt. Lee still has his jacket on by the way as Cruz asks for a timeout.
Cruz goes out to stall. He fakes going up the steps to get in and goes back down. Cruz slides in but slides back out. Lee goes after him then Lee hits a dropkick. Lee hits corner chops and Cruz stunners him over the top rope. Cruz forearms him in the back of the head.
Cruz gets some stomps in then misses a bronco buster. Lee hits lariats then neckbreakers him. Lee blue thunders him for 2. Cruz lariats him for 2. Cruz hits a headbutt to the chest then backdrops him. Lee exploders him into the corner then does a lifting reverse ddt. Lee wins it.
It wasn't a bad match with Lee being the face against the stalling Cruz.
They said that's 6 wins in a row for Lee.
I won't be covering the match with Airica Demia.
Four Corner Survival - Jack Cartwheel and Gringo Loco vs The Workhorsemen vs The Infantry vs The Spanish Announce Project (Angelico and Serpentico)
Ange and Henry start us off. Henry has bright green hair now for unknown reasons. Serp double stomps Henry's arm. Jack gets in with JD and does cartwheels. Jack hits him in the chest and gets nowhere. Jack backrolls into a spinning headscissors then splashes him. JD chops him.
Loco is tagged in and headscissors JD. Sepr headscissors Loco and superkicks him. Bravo gets in. Serp takes him down then Bravo armdrgs him. Bravo neckbreakers him then Serp is tripped into a baseball slide. The Infantry and The SAP go at it then the other teams join in.
JD ddt's Jack for 2 then Henry high kicks Jac. JD slingshot swantons Jack and does Ange's shimmy. Jack cartwheels through a double team then hurricanrana's JD into Henry. Jack tags in Loco.
Loco gorilla presses Serp then standing moonsaults him. Loco gets caught up top. JD does a bad top rope hurricanrana on Loco then Henry top rope double stomps Loco. Shawn Dean breaks up the pin attempt with a top rope splash then Loco takes a superkick into a ddt.
Ange tilt-a-whirl backbreakers Loco then Serp neckbreakers Bravo on Ange's knee. Jack cartwheels into Ange, knocking him off the apron. Serp canadian destroyers Jack but Jack flips through it. Jack hits a standing corkscrew moonsault on Serp.
Loco double jump moonsaults Jack. JD belly to belly suplexes Jack then Jack takes a corner cannonball. The Workhorsemen tag superkicks from Infantry. Infantry are pulled out by SAP and sent into the rails. Serp topes The Workhorsemen. Jack does an assisted flying space tiger drop to the outside.
Dean top rope crossbodies Loco then tope con hilos outside. Bravo scissor kicks Loco then Loco takes a russian legsweep + face kick. The Infantry then pick up the win.
It was chaos as expected with lots of dives and fast paced action. Jack's flip out of the canadian destroyer was something and I don't know how that really worked. It was watchable and I suppose an okay main. I haven't reviewed ROH for months but the last time I did, they were doing these four way tags in the main then too.
Overall thoughts: As for what I saw, it was a decent show. The opener was the best match Hirsch and Red have had that I have seen. They were aggressive and it was a good, spirited match. Cruz had an okay match against Lee. The main was chaos as expected with people coming in and out. They did a lot of cool dives and stuff but the selling wasn't there. I still think it was tolerable though. Supercard of Honor is 4 weeks away but we got no real build to it here and it wasn't even mentioned much. None of the champs appeared on the show either.
