WWF Superstars of Wrestling 7/21/1990

They are at the Dayton Hara Arena in Dayton, Ohio today.

Jesse said crybabies like The Hart Foundation make him sick. He said they challenged Demolition then cried about it when they got beaten up. Vince says Jesse's analysis is giving him a headache and says he looks a little green around the gills. Jesse then puts his fist up to his chin.

Jim Powers vs "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase

Jim gets a full entrance with music here. Ted armdrags Jim then shoulders him over. Ted hiptosses and armdrags him. The Big Boss Man does an inset and says Ted has a lot longer of a sentence and harder time due to his defamation of character. Ted throws Jim over the top, but Jim lands on his feet. Jim boots him then hits a dropkick. Jim hits slams then Ted knees him in the gut. Ted hits a powerslam then puts him in the million dollar dream. Jim is put to sleep and is out. Dibiase wins.

It wasn't a bad squash with Jim getting a little in before his beating. They kept it moving and Ted did a little more here than he usually does.

Jim has money put in his mouth after.

WWF Update with Mene Gene Okerlund

Gene says Summerslam is coming and talks about Hulk Hogan vs Earthquake. Tugboat will be in Hulk's corner and Dino Bravo will be in Quake's corner. Gene says Brutus Beefcake is injured. He said Jack Tunney told Gene that the Intercontinental Title will be defended by Mr. Perfect regardless. Gene announces Demolition vs The Hart Foundation in a 2/3 falls match at Summerslam.

We see clips of The Hart Foundation vs Demolition brawl. Demolition do a promo. Crush says no problem to having 2/3 falls and only 2 Demolition at ringside. Smash says it will be The Hart's problem to figure out which Demo members will be at ringside. The Hart Foundation does a promo. Neidhart is happy only 2 of them can be at ringside. Bret said they don't back down and they can't be beaten.

Nikolai Volkoff vs Pez Whatley

Nik is waving the US flag here. Pez nails Nik from behind. Nik clubs Pez's back. Fans are asked about Nik in an inset. Pez eye rakes Nik and bends over. Nik cartwheels and does a spin kick to the gut. Nik hits knees to the body then lariats him in the back of the head. Nik gets the win.

It was a quick squash here. Nik had some good and bad strikes here and clearly is more fitting to be a heel.

We get words from Sgt. Slaughter who hasn't been seen for years at this point. Sarge is shooting a machine gun. He says he is a drill sargeant. He said he used to be proud of his country but isn't anymore. He said you maggots have opened your arms to that pink commie Volkoff. Sarge says America has gone soft physically and in the head. Sarge says they say the cold war is over, but he says over my dead body.

WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney

Rick Martel does a promo. He said packaging is everything. He said Jimmy Snuka is low class. He said he comes from the jungle and said Arrogance can't do anything for him. Rick says the animals in the jungle are glad Snuka left and he said he will send him back there.

Hillbilly Jim does a promo. He said Hercules has been through everything in the WWF and he respects him. He said it'll be a pleasure and honor to match himself against him. He said their friendship will have to go out the window when they fight.

WWF Update with Mene Gene Okerlund

Mean Gene Okerlund says to get ready for Summerslam on August 27. He runs down the card. Earthquake, Dino Bravo and Jimmy Hart do a promo. Dino said Tugboat better not step out of line or he will deal with him himself. Quake welcomes Hogan back. He says revenge isn't going to happen for Hulk. Quake says Hulk's decision to come back for Summerslam will be the worst decision of his life.

Hulk Hogan and Tugboat do a promo. Tug said he can't wait to see Quake look Hulk eye to eye. Hulk says he has been reborn again and said he can't wait to prove that the Earthquake is the only natural disaster in the WWF. Hulk says Tug is like a lighthouse and prevents you from injury. Hulk says Tug will be there if Hart of Bravo get involved. Hulk says he owes Quake for trying to make him retire. Hulk says he will slam Quake and says the earth will open and swallow The Earthquake. He said if Dino Bravo gets the courage to get in the ring, Hulk will step aside and let Tugboat handle him.

The Ultimate Warrior does a promo behind a cage. He talks about confined spaces limiting boundaries. He said he will step into Rude's normal world at Summerslam. He talks about Rude being in a hole that only had darkness. Warrior said he will tell his Warriors to feed him visions of the past. He said he will bring all the anger and frustration to Rude at Summerslam. This was hard to hear due to audio issues.

The Legion of Doom vs Black Bart and Tom Stone

This is The LOD's Superstars debut.  They jump the hjobbers as this starts and Bart goes out. Hawk flying shoulders Tom then fist drops him. Hawk hits a big dropkick then Animal hits a big elbow drop. The LOG are wearing black tights here with some different designs on it.

Animal powerslams Tom then Tom runs into a Hawk lariat. Jesse asks if Brutus is responsible for the LOD's haircuts. Tom takes a face kick then the doomsday device. Hawk pins Tom.

This was a good squash for the LOD and it's hard to be excited for them after seeing this. They looked big and bad and they laid waste to the jobbers here.

Sapphire does a promo. She said she doesn't know who is giving her gifts. She dsaid she doesn't care because she likes getting them. She shows off a gold bracelet. Jesse asks if it was bought or stolen and Vince says to apologize right now.

The Brother Love Show

Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan are the guests. Rude says before Summerslam rolls around, he will lock horns with The Ultimate Warrior. He says the Warrior will go down on that day. He said by the time Summerslam rolls around, Warrior will step into the cage as champion. Rude says the man who leaves the cage is the winner. He said Warrior won't be climbing the cage to win his title back but to escape the punishment that Rude inflicts. Rude said he beat Warrior before and will do it once more. He says he will take his title and walk through the cage door.

Heenan says to stay in the house and wear warm clothes because a storm is coming and says Rude will be the new champion. Rude then gyrates and flexes.

Rude didn't have a lot to say here really made a short story long on this one.

Dino Bravo vs Paul Roma

Dino side headlocks him. Jesse said Roma has a million dollar body and a 10 cent brain. Roma leapfrogs him then back body drops him. Roma crossbodies him then Bravo atomic drops him. Bravo gutwrench suplexes him then hits an elbow drop.

Roma hits a nice dropkick then does a top rope sunset flip for 2. Roma hits punches then Bravo side slams him. Bravo wins it.

It was a quick squash here with Roma looking better than Bravo did. 

Bravo hits Roma with the megaphone after.

Ronnie Garvin shills WWF ice cream bars.

The Rockers vs Al Burke & Bob Bradley

Paul Roma is still in the ring as The Rockers get in. They help out Paul then Paul pushes Jannetty down. Paul pushes Shawn down Hercules then comes out and saves Roma. Herc pushes The Rockers too and the two pairs argue. Herc nails Jannetty then Roma nails Shawn. Herc and Roma then get knocked out the ring by The Rockers and the refs come down to separate them. 

I didn't really get why Roma would turn on The Rockers for helping him up. And I didn't get why Herc would essentially do it too.

WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney

Jimmy Snuka does a promo. He says Rick Martel's Arroance smells like spray you use to kill mosquitos. Brother Love does a promo for Macho Man and Sapphire. He said Sapphire experienced the ultimate humiliation. He said Miss Elizabeth will kiss the feet of Sherri, Macho and Brother Love. Macho and Sherri walk in. Macho says they finally have what it takes to bring them home. Macho says Elizabeth is a non-factor at Summerslam due to Brother Love. They said Love will be Macho and Sherri's corner at Summerslam. 

The Rockers vs Al Burke & Bob Bradley

All 4 men are in and The Rockers throw the jobbers out. Jesse says The Rockers jumped them and it's true. Al gets slingshotted into the ring then his head is banged off of Shawn's feet. Al takes a nice spinning suplex then a kneelift. Marty hits a nice dropkick on Bob then Bob takes a 2nd rope elbow from Shawn.

Shawn knee lifts Al and All takes a double shot. Hercules and Paul Roma are asked if they are jealous of The Rockers on an inset. Paul said he's sick of people cheering The Rockers when they should be cheering them. Paul says they are the superior athletes. He says they will get it together and become a team.

Marty chinlocks Al and boots him in the gut. Marty then hits a rocker dropper. Shawn and Marty do double top rope fist drops on Al and pick up the win.

It was a notable squash as it had the formation of Paul Roma and Hercules as a team. The Rockers weren't good faces here as they jumped the jobbers at the bell. Shawn's suplex was real nice here.

WWF Event Center with Sean Mooney

Sean hypes up the 8/18/90 Boston Garden show. Boris Zhukov says the flag match with Volkoff is his type of match. He says he is proud of his country. He said he will wave his flag and sing his national anthem as loud and clear as he can. The Hart Foundation and Jim Duggan do a promo. Neidhart calls Demolition a yellow pack of hyena's and said they attacked them from behind. Hart says Duggan is a friend of theirs. Jim says The Hart's got on the phone and called a buddy and they want to demolish the demolition.

Jesse and Vince close the show. Vince says the Legion of Doom were impressive. Jesse said he wants to see their record a month or two down the road. He said Rick Rude impressed him.

Next week has Jim Duggan, Earthquake, Big Boss Man, Dusty Rhodes and a Summerslam report.

Overall thoughts: A pretty important episode here with The Legion of Doom making their Superstars debut, Sgt Slaughter returning and Hercules and Roma forming a team to fight The Rockers. They are all about building Summerslam here and we got some matches for it set up. Some of the squashes weren't bad, but they obviously weren't must see. This was a nice breath of fresh air after a slower month or two.
