AEW Collision 3/9/2024

AEW Collision 3/9/2024

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/03/aew-collision-322024.html

Bryan Danielson vs Shane Taylor

Shane throws him off to start. Shane's wearing yellow today. He says he's going to beat his @ss. Shane beale throws him. Bryan hits elbows on Shane's head. Shane blocks Bryan's kick then punches him. Shane hits a big chop then takes kicks to the chest. Bryan hits chops and kicks then Bryan butt drops his leg.

Bryan works Shane's leg. Shane hits a knee and a punch which knocks Bryan out of the ring. We go to PiP break and return. Shane legdrops Bryan on the apron then headbutts him. Shane grabs Bryan by the chin and chops him.

Bryan goes up the buckles and flips over him. Bryan dropkicks him in the knee. Shane misses a splash and has his leg banged off the post. Bryan top rope dropkicks Shane then hits leg kicks. Bryan buzzsaw kicks him for 1.

Bryan busaiku knee kicks him in the corner then takes a big lariat from Shane for 2. Bryan hits forearms then Shane headbutts him. Shane uranage's him then hits a splash for 2. Shane misses a corner cannonball then Bryan hits high kicks. Bryan flying knees him for the win.

It was a good match with Bryan getting beaten up on then making his comeback to win it. Bryan was the underdog here and Shane hit nice strikes as usual.

Will Ospreay comes out, mimicking when Bryan came out after his match on Dynamite. Will puts over Shane Taylor and the match. Will says the sandwiches backstage are lovely and says Bryan set the standard and bar here. Will thanks him for everything he has done in wrestling. He said Bryan interrupted him on Dynamite and asks if he had something to say to him.

Bryan said he wants to welcome him to AEW. He said Will's match with Takeshita was one of the best matches he saw. He said Takeshita came to prove he was one of the best in the world and Bryan wants to give Will a chance to prove he's one of the best. He challenges him for AEW Dynasty. Will says "yes, bruv" and they agree to a match.

The Elite (The Young Bucks and Kazuchika Okada) vs Jon Cruz, Adrian Alanis and Liam Gray

Okada gets his own separate entrance here but he poses with them. Nick teases starting this off then Okada gets in. Okada boots Jon and flapjacks him. AA hits forearms on Okada and is dropkicked.

Liam tries shots on Okada and takes a rainmaker. Okada then picks up the iwn.

It was a short squash with only Okada getting offense in for his team. At least they put him over strong here.

Eddie Kingston goes after Okada then is 3v1'd. Penta El Zero Miedo makes the save for some reson then takes an over the back neckbreaker on Okada's knee. Pac then makes his return and beats up The Bucks. Pac and Okada stare down then trade forearms. Pac hits kicks on Okada then rebound germans him. The Bucks then pull Okada out.

Pac gets on the mic after. He says he's looking for trouble and says if you are after that, you are barking up the correct tree. Pac says if you want some, he'll give you it. He says you reap what you saw. Eddie Kingston gets on the mic and says he wants a 6-man tag.

There was a lot going on in this one. I think it would have been better done on Dynamite instead of this show, but at least its something rather than a random dream match.

We get clips of Darby talking from Dynamite in a video of the White/Darby match.

Mariah May vs Trish Adora

May's in full old Toni Storm attire here. Trish wristlocks her then May cartwheels through it. May flips out of the armlock using the ropes. Trish headscissors her.

Trish does an armlock on her then does hip throws.Trish rolls her up for 2. May spinning headscissors her and dropkicks her out. We go to PiP break then full break. Trish hits shots and pump kicks her as we return.

May throws her down backwards by the hair. Trish then germans her while she's on her knees. May hits a big running knee then hits may day to win it.

It was a short squash with this being more even than it really should had. May had a good showing here and looked better than she did even at Stardom.

Toni Storm comes out on the stage to give out her own Toni award. She gives Mariah May an award. May is thrilled then Deonna Purrazzo jumps Toni as she heads to the ring. May hits Deonna from behind then ddt's her on the ramp. May and Toni then pose on Deonna.

Nick Wayne vs Adam Priest

I think Adam had a good squash on Dark a long time ago. Nick armlocks Adam then takes him down. Nick shoulders him over and poses then flying headscissors him. Nick flying euros him and Adam hits euros and chops on Nick. Adam is thrown out and Nick kicks him out there.

Killswitch backs Adam out and Nick handsprings into the ropes to knocn Adam off the apron. Nick fisherman busters Adam then stands on him on the 2nd rope ala Christian. Nick enzugiri's Adam then hits wayne's world for the win.

It was a quick squash with Nick showing off some and being cocky.

A fan grabs Christian from the first row. It's someone in a mask. That person jumps off the rails onto Nick and Killswitch then he reveals himself as Adam Copeland. Adam Copeland grabs a box as the Patriarchy surrounds Adam. The crowd chants "what's in the box?". Adam has the TNT Title but Christian's crew is too afraid to get it.

Adam gets on the mic and says he wants their next match to be an I Quit match. We never found out what's in the box.

Mark Briscoe is interviewed with Jay Lethal and Friends. Jeff says Saturday Night is alright for fighting. He tells Mark he doesn't have to worry about trusting him. Jeff says all he has to trust is that he will do anything to win tonight. Jay says he trusts him and hopes they both trust him. Mark says let's go to war and says he knows Jeff is a dog. Mark says let's do this thing.

Chris Jericho vs Titan

CJ is wearing Lionheart gear. CJ takes him down then surfboards him. Titan rolls, bridges and flips to escape CJ's clutches. They trade chops. Titan flips out of the corner, ducks a lariat and leg lariats him. Titan walks the ropes and diving hurricanrana's CJ. Titan then topes him outside. Titan sends CJ into the steps. They go up top and CJ hits a top rope facebuster for 2. We go to PiP break and return.

CJ pulls Titan down then takes a pele kick. Titan tope con hilos him then slingshot double stomps him. CJ double underhook backbreakers him for 2. CJ hits an attitude adjustment then misses an asai moonsault. Titan tornado ddt's him for 2 then top rope double stomps him for 2.

Titan rolls him and has trouble getting the indian deathlok on. CJ ends up reversing it and Titan rolls him up out of the lion tmer attempt. Titan comes off the 2nd rope and takes a codebreaker. Titan ducks a judas effect and leg lariats him. Titan spinning death valley bombs him. Titan walks the top rope and goes for a hurricanrana but CJ puts him in the walls of jericho and wins it.

It was a good little match here with the two working well. I liked the finish as it was a creative way to lead up to the walls of Jericho. It would have been better if there was some storyline or reasoning for this and it would have been better storyline wise if they had used someone like Atlantis Jr. who Jericho worked with.

The Gates of Agony jump Jericho after. Hook makes the save with a kendo stick and nails Toa with it.

Tony Schiavone interviews FTR in the ring. Cash said Sunday didn't go to plan and said that's life. He said all they can do is keep moving forward. He said 2024 marked 10 years of FTR. Cash said they are entering the tag title tournament.

Dax said Collision built its back on FTR. Dax said he's not a liar. He said he doesn't know if they should be in the tag tournament. He said they will give every ounce of energy and sweat though if the tournament will accept them. Dax said they want to become the first ever 3x AEW World Tag champs.

The Infantry then come out, who haven't really been on TV for months. Shawn Dean says they are the most dynamic, popular, flyest and coolest tag team. Dean asks the crowd for a "hoo rah". Bravo says facts is facts and they almost didn't make it as they were doing half off at Magic City. Bravo said they respect and love FTR but says may the best team win in the tag tournament. Bravo said they are coming for their spots and can give the AEW tag division what it really needs - a revival.

Dax says The Revival is dead and said they will be too if they meet them in the tournament.

As I said, The Infantry hadn't been on TV for months and this was out of nowhere. Had they done some matches and such, it would have worked better.

Mistico vs Angelico

Angelico also hasn't been on TV for a long time. Mist wristlocks him then Ange upkicks him. Mist rolls out of a wristlock, headflips and counters it. They do som rolls and stand off. Mist armdrags him then Ange calls for a time out. Mist hits a handspring back elbow and we go to PiP break.

We return and Mist hits a flying headscissors. Mist 619's him then springboard dropkicks him. Mist topes Serpentico, who is with Ange, then Mist jumps over the top and hurricanrana's Ange on the floor. Mist slingshot tornillos him. Mistico top rope swantons him for 2.

Mist trips him and Ange puts la magistral on him for 2. They each hit corner lariats and trade high kicks. They then both fall over. Mist spinning headscissors him into a pin attempt then hits la mistica for the submission win.

Well, at least a CMLL guy finally picked up a win here. It was okay for what it was as a random match. This was all lucha libre as expected.

Atlanta Street Fight - The House of Black vs Mark Briscoe, Jeff Jarrett and Jay Lethal

They brawl before entrances are done and Jeff hits a trash can shot. Mark hits forearms on Black then hits a dropkick through the ropes. Jay topes Brody into the announcer's table then Mark elbow drops Black off the apron.

Brody puts Jay in a chair and chops him. He then gets tripped into the chair. Jeff chair's Brody. Buddy and Mark trade shots then Jeff is face kicked into the timekepeers table. Brody crossbodies Jay onto a table bridged on the rails. Mark is pushed off the top, completely missing the table and landing on a pile of chairs. I assume that was on purpose, but who knows.

We go to PiP break and return. Dutt hits Brody in the back with a guitar. Dutt tries to run away from HoB but runs into Julia Hart. Hart gives Buddy gasoline to pour on Dutt then Hart grabs a lighter. Karen Jarrett comes out and low blows Buddy. Dutt pushes Buddy off the ramp through a table. Hart low blows Dutt then black mists Karen.

Black is sent into the rails then Brody takes a russian legsweep + dropkick combo. Jeff's neck is pulled down over the top. Brody and Jay fight on the apron. Brody hanging sleepers Jay on the apron. Jeff hits Brody with a guitar and sends him through a table. Black spinning high kicks Jeff.

Mark hits a jay driller on Black. Mark grabs a spike from Black and Hart trips up Mark. Mark jumps off a chair to the outside but is caught and powerbombed on the apron by Black and Buddy. A table is lit on fire then Mark is powerbombed through it. Black then pins Mark.

It was one of Collision's shorter main events. It only had 20 minutes and with all of the people involved, it wasn't long enough. It was your usual hardcore match. Mark had two big bumps here and Buddy took one off the ramp through a table. It wasn't really that great though, but it was an okay main.

The doctors work on Mark after.

Overall thoughts: It had the usual issues with random people and matches. Some of the matches were good though as I liked the opener, Jericho/Titan, Ange/Mistico and the main. I thought it was a good show overall.
