Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling 3/3/2024

Southern Illinois Championship Wrestling 3/3/2024

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/02/southern-illinois-championship_26.html

Drew Abenhaus and Lucky P. Larson are on commentary. Larson says a rematch for the tag titles is coming, but not today.

Sean Vincent and Shogun come up to the announcers. He says the brothels are busy and need security in Canada and Glenn Williams went up there to help. He said he found a fitting replacement in Shogun for Glenn. He threatens Shogun if he doesn't perform tonight.

The Top Guns (Joe Vinetti and Brandon Baretta) vs Sean Vincent and Shogun

They lock up and Shogun side headlocks Brandon. Brandon shoulders him over as Larson calls the Guns, lucky punks. Shogun is tripped and Joe jumps off Brandon's back with an elbow on Shogun. Larson accuses The Gun's of cheating and says him and The Hustlers would never cheat. Brandon double axe handles Shogun's arm.

Shogun takes a double back elbow then a senton and legdrop. Sean hiptosses Joe then grounded abdominal stretches him. Sean jumping lariats Joe. Shogun takes corner spears then a spinebuster. Brandon rocket launchers Joe onto Shogun and Joe picks up the win.

It was a short match that was mostly Shogun getting beaten up here. The Top Guns had an okay outing here.

Sean boots Joe in the head with his loaded boot after and Joe is out. Larson says no one cares and asks if  his team can get their title rematch right now. Joe has to be helped out.

Axe Allwardt vs Gil Rogers

This is from their la lariats Gil then Gill rolls him up and pins him. Ax then clubs him from behind and hits a stiff piledriver. Gil is out cold and has to be stretchered out. Ax poses then Brandon Baretta shoves him. Herb Simmons, Joe Vinetti and others come down to check on Gil as Gil is stretchered out.

Drew Abenhaus interviews Gil Rogers. Gil says that show was his first show of the year. He was coming out to have a wrestling match and beat him fair and square. He said Ax hit him from behind like a no good coward then hits him with one of the most dangerous moves in wrestling. Gil says it's far from over. He says he's a nice guy but there's a time not to be nice. He says Ax is going to find out all about it.

Promoter's Corner - WWA 9/6/1980 - Nick Bockwinkle vs Dick the Bruiser

This was aired on the 2/18/2024 episode. I reviewed it here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/02/southern-illinois-championship_19.html

Lucky P. Larson and The LA Hustlers are interviewed. Larson said there's no reason for him to rant and rave and get upset. He said we have the greatest tag team on earth, The LA Hustlers vs the luckiest tag team in the world, The Squirt Guns. He said you put 1,000 typewriters in front of 1,000 monkeys, they will eventually type up the next great novel. He said if you give them 100 shots, they might win one and they did. Larson said let's see The Top Guns hold onto the tag titles. Larson said we don't have the fun-loving Hustlers, we have the angry and mad Hustlers. He said the next time The Top Guns face them, they will not walk out on their own power.

He says he doesn't know how many times Joe Helms has to get in the ring with a member of his crew and get beaten up. Larson said he will take him now. He said he's not scared of him. Drew tells him he's not in the building and Larson says he doesn't know that. Larson tells Joe to watch himself. Larson tells Curtis Wylde that if he wants to talk about his family, he will give him all the time in the world to spend time with his family. Diggs tells Drew that The Top Guns are in trouble.

Kenny Kingston vs Gil Rogers

Kenny's a 370 pounder with long dreads. He's well over 6'2 also. Larson says Kenny has the weight advantage and they say Kenny is new. He pushes Gil into the corner, sending him down. Kenny turns his back then Gil 2nd rope lariats Kenny in the back. Gil hits shots to the gut and bangs his head off the buckle. Gil flying crossbodies him then is caught off the 2nd rope. Kenny hits a big uranage then stands on Gil's back.

Kenny knee chokes him on the ropes. Kenny hits a big slam and a splash for 2. Kenny bearhugs Gil and Gil ear claps his way out of it. Kenny lariats him then Gil running knees him for the win.

It was a short one here. Both guys were fine here with Kenny bullying Gil and Gil being the underdog face. I would have liked more of a comeback from Gil before getting the win here though.

Curtis Wilde and Wildfire are interviewed. Curtis said he has the crowd on his side and said he can take down Larson's crew and Devastation Inc. He says Stephen E. and Lucky P. are on notice. He said they will step on the wildside and he's ready to get wild.

Bryce Cawvey and Curtis Wylde vs Shaun Douglas and Steve Fender

Bryce side headlocks Steve and Steve shoulders him over. Bryce hits dropkicks then puts la magistral on Shaun. Curtis double axe handles Shaun's arm then slams him. Bryce hits a neckbreaker on Shaun for 2.

Curtis pounds on Shaun then Curtis and Shaun try pin attempts on each other. Steve chops Bryce and Bryce goes up and over. Shaun boots Curtis in the corner then Steve chokes Curtis from the corner. Curtis fights off both guys. Bryce low dropkicks Shaun for 2.

Bryce flying euros Steve then knocks Shaun off the apron. Bryce flying headscissors Steve over for 2. Steve indian deathlocks Bryce and taps him out to win it.

It was a simple tag for the most part. Curtis got a little in and the faces mostly got beaten up here. Not great or anything but it was nice to see Bryce get a little shine here at times.

Curtis and Wildfire help Bryce after.

Payton Ayres vs Bobby D

Bobby D is the current Bruiser Brody Memorial Battle Royal champ and he has the trophy for it with him.

Bobby wristlocks Payton and armlocks him. Payton side headlocks him. Bobby leapfrogs him then armdrags him. Payton chokes Bobby on the ropes. Bobby fights back with chops then running euros him.

Bobby bulldogs him for 2. Payton eye rakes him then slams him. Bobby grabs the arm then takes a big lariat. Payton chinlocks him then legdrops him. Payton picks him up like a slam and throws him out of the ring. Boby lands on the floor and they fight outside. This ends up going to a double countout. Payton is thrown into the steps then Bobby shoves the ref.

The match was just average with the big news being them going to a double countout here and shoving the ref. That's not the end of this one for sure.

Overall thoughts: Just an average edition of the show for the most part. They set up some programs here with Sean Vincent booting Joe in the head with a loaded boot, and Ayres and Bobby D going to a double countout. Not much else happened on this one and I wouldn't recommend it.
