AEW Collision 3/2/2024
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/02/aew-collision-2242024.html
Buddy Matthews vs Mark Briscoe
Mark Briscoe jumps BM before he is ready and they fight outside. Mark chairs him in the gut and back. Mark then jumps off a chair into the ring and tope con hilos him into a table. Mark grabs a spike. King and Black come down. Brody King pulls Mark out then Mark chairs him. Mark throws a chair at Malakai Black. He goes to spike him then Buddy nails Mark.
Buddy and Mark fight up the ramp then Mark back body drops him. Mark then jumps off the stage onto Buddy. Mark grabs the controller for the pyro and makes it shoot then security gets involved. Mark tries to get him with the pyro and security grabs him. Mark sets off the pyro but nobody gets hit. The heels head to the back and this one is over.
This was more of a brawl than a match. It got started before the bell rang then there was no real ending to it. The pyro spot was something different and creative.
We see a promo from Wednesday with Swerve Strickland. He said Page ripped his jacket and said he doesn't let his guard down too often. He said he paid for it. He said Page got him but he'll never take his eyes off him again. He said Page can't get behind him on Sunday and will have to look at him in the eye. He tells Joe he will take the title and walk out champ.
All-Star 8-Man Scramble Qualifying Match - Penta El Zero Miedo vs Bryan Keith vs Dante Martin
Penta takes of his globe and Bryan headbutts him. Penta hits leg kicks then takes a double superkick. Dante backrolls into a headscissors on Bryan then jumping knees him. Penta top rope crossbodies him then hits slingblades. Penta superkicks and backcrackers Dante. Bryan facekicks Penta.
Bryan exploders him then Bryan and Penta trade shots. Dante hits a double top rope crossbody on his opponents then topes both opponents. We go to PiP break and return. They all hit superkicks on each other and Dante takes a double superkick. Bryan hits a chop and forearm combo on Penta then is superkicked by Dante. Penta jumps off of Bryan's back and canadian destroyers Dante.
Penta springboards and takes a boot from Bryan. Penta superkicks Bryan then Bryan headbutts him. Dante cradles Bryan for 2 then does a high sunset flip on him. Bryan knees him in the jaw then tiger drivers him for 2. Penta and Bryan trade chops on the apron. Penta package piledrivers him on the apron.
Penta superkicks Dante on the apron, who comes off the top. Dante canadian destroyers Penta on the apron. Dante top rope frogsplashes Bryan and wins it.
This was a spotfest as expected and I hated this one. Dante took a canadian destroyer at one point here but that didn't stop him from picking up the win. It was all dives and spots here.
We see an Adam Page interview from Wednesdya. He said he's not hurt and he's in the match on Sunday. He said he had to take advantage of Swerve and the people. He said he'd rather die than have Swerve win the title. He said he's hurt and he's weakened and he had to do it.
Mariah May vs Angelica Risk
Risk had a good showing on ROH once. May clubs her back then double chops her. May chokes her on the ropes then dropkicks her on the ropes. May spinning side slams her and Nigel McGuinness faints after this outside. May foot chokes her then basement dropkicks her.
Risk hits some slaps and punches back then is forearmed. May knees her and Risk does a nice sell for it. May hits a cradle shock and wins it.
It was a squash. May looked okay and Risk sadly didn't get much in. Nigel fainted at one point here.
Toni Storm comes out after. May thinks she's going to hug her but Toni goes right past her. Toni said she has to speak to Deonna Purrazzo. Toni asks if this has gone far enough and asks if this is what they trained and starved for. The picture is in black and white here for where Toni is but is in color where Deonna is. Toni said she doesn't know if this is all worth it and says she loves her. She said she loves her abilities and determination. She said she loves that there is only room for one. Toni says as long as she lives and breathes, it will never be Deonna. They go face to face and the screen is split between colors again.
DP says she loves her, saying she loves that her head is so far up her own @ss. DP says she is the best friend and the worst enemy. She says she hopes she has a bidet, as it will be hard to wipe her @ss when she breaks both of her arms. Toni says goodbye old friend and kisses her. They then trade shots and DP takes her down. DP hits shots and May throws DP off. DP pump kicks her then hits a gotch style storm zero to May.
This was your usual goofy AEW segment. A shame too because there was a good story to tell here.
The Dark Order vs The Bang Bang Scissor Gang (Austin Gunn, Max Caster and Anthony Bowens)
Max goes to do his rap but Jay is hanging on him and Max stops to yell at him. Gunn trips Alex then hits punches. Alex takes a double hiptoss then Max fights off a 3v1 in the corner. Max dropkicks Uno then atomic drops Silver. Max slams Uno then Bowens hits the legdrop to the crotch of Uno.
Silver breaks up a scissor attempt then Max is popped-up into a Silver euro. Uno ddt's Austin for 2. We go to PiP break and full break then return. Austin neckbreakers Uno after giving the ref Uno's leg.
Bowens gets the hot tag in and cleans house on The Dark Order. He jumps over Alex's back and legdrops his neck. Max is thrown into the post then Silver topes Austin. Billy Gunn has words for Silver then Silver pushes him. Bowens is triple team flipped by The Dark Order for 2. Austin neckbreakers Uno. Silver knees Austin on the ropes and germans him. Alex takes an arrival > mic drop soon after and is pinned.
It was a shorter and fast paced trios match. It was fine for what it was but nothing too memorable. I think they are starting to tease the split here between The Acclaimed and Bullet Club.
Willow Nightingale, Kris Statlander and Stokeley Hathaway are interviewed by Lexi. Stoke says the word of the day is accountability. He says he is sorry. Willow said they need to get on the same page. She said tomorrow is not about friendship, it's Revolution. Willow says they will kick their @ss tomorrow and fails at trying to look mad.
Tony Schiavone brings out Wardlow for an interview. Wardlow says it looks like he finally got someone's attention around here. He said he finally gets his shot at the world title when he beats the other all stars in the scramble tomorrow. He asks if it will be him vs Page, Swerve or Joe. He says he will slap the cowboy's mustache into the 3rd row. He says he will kick the front door of Swerve's house down and whoop him from the basement to the attic. He says to swerve back to your old lane and dance to the back of the line. He said Swerve's house only exists in his world.
He said he's sick of hearing people chant for Joe. He says Joe is in his spot. He says he will finish the job this time and says he will beat him so bad that he will have to sit at the announce table where he belongs. He says he's him and will always be him. He said he will remind everyone that he is still the face of the revolution and still the uncrowned king. He says this is no longer wrestling, but is war.
Chris Jericho comes out. He said Wardlow isn't fighting Page, Joe or Swerve. Chris says he's one of the greatest to ever do this. He said he won 8 world titles but Wardlow won nothing. He said it's been 4 years since he lost the AEW title and said it's not just a match for him, it's a chance for him to get back where he thinks he could be. He aid he knows he's good enough and asks if Wardlow is. He said maybe people stopped changing Wardlow's name because he's just not good enough, then calls him "Mike".
Wardlow says he's right. He said he's been taking steps down and backwards. He said it p!ssed him off and let it eat him away. He said he lost his best friend and himself over it. He said he remembered who he was after sitting at home for 3 months. He said he picked himself off the floor to remind people who he is. He said he's Wardlow, the biggest and baddest son of a b!tch to step foot in a wrestling ring. He said he's done eating his scraps. He said if Chris doesn't think he's good enough, he's right here. Chris says he will prove something right now then Powerhouse Hobbs nails Chris from behind. Hobbs says one more night to Wardlow as well.
I thought Wardlow did a good job here on the mic. I didn't think Jericho coming in really helped him or the segment though, nor did Hobbs jumping Jericho. I didn't like Jericho calling him Mike and I wish they would explain why Wardlow was sitting at home for 3 months.
Serena Deeb is interviewed in the back by Lexi. Deeb said she's undefeated, undeniable and unstoppable. She said no one has challenged her in the ring yet. She said she doesn't think her competition would know the difference between a wristlock and wristwatch. She said if you think you are one of the best, step into her dojo. She said she will show the world that nobody can do what she does.
Private Party vs Matt Sydal and Christopher Daniels
Sydal and Zay argue. Sydal armdrags him then headscissors him over. Sydal flying headscissors him then does a nice flip into an armdrag. All of them hit armdrags then they do a 4 person stand off.
Quen side headlocks Daniels then Quen dances in his face. Quen walks on Daniels' back then dances. Daniels then walks on his back and dances. Daniels does the Curry Man dance then hiptosses him. Quen takes a chest kick > STO > standing corkscrew moonsault for 2.
Quen takes a kick and a lariat to the back of the head. We go to PiP break and return. Zay hits shots on Daniels then takes a flatliner. Zay does a nice bump for it. Sydal gets in and hits kicks and knees on Party. He leg kicks both then hits a double hurricanrana. Sydal brazilian kicks Zay then does a matrix out of a lariat. Sydal air raid crashes Quen for 2.
Sydal takes a pump kick from Quen then a top rope swanton + neckbreaker combo. Sydal spin kicks Quen then Daniels hits punches on both. Private Party take lariats from both opponents and Sydal top rope meteora's Zay. Quen misses a pele kick and takes an angel's wings. Jeff Jarrett and friends come down. Lethal hits a lethal combination on Daniels and Quen pins Daniels.
Lame ending here to an okay match. The two teams worked fine together as expected and they did their flips and armdrags. Private Party did their own variation of Chance and Carters neckbeaker + 450 here. Jarrett's crew pose with Party after and Dutt does his own dance.
We get a video on Eddie vs Bryan's feud.
Thunder Rosa vs Cassandra Golden
Rosa front facelocks her and hits knees to the body. Cass throws her off and takes a superkick to the chest. Rosa lariats her then hits chops. Cass misses a corner charge and takes a shotgun dropkick. Rosa corner dropkicks her then top rope double stomps her back. Rosa does a cobra clutch while sitting on her back and wins it.
It was just a quick squash. Rosa really should be in some kind of program now as this stuff isn't helping anyone. Rosa said she hasn't left and won't back down after. She said it's her time.
Orange Cassidy, Trent Beretta, Hook and Daniel Garcia vs Christian Cage, Killswitch, Roderick Strong and Brian Cage
Trent and Brian start us off. Trent side headlocks him then is shouldered over. DG and Strong go at it. Strong wristlocks him then DG rolls out. DG side headlocks him then takes a headlock takeover. Strong takes chops then DG hits forearms on Brian. Brian takes shots from DG and Hook then Hook shoulders throws Strong. The 8 men stand off and we go to PiP break.
We return and Brian forearms DG. DG hits corner punches on Brian then Brian 2nd rope deadlift suplexes him in. Strong backbreakers DG then CC stomps on DG.
DG tries to make a commeback out of the corner and ddt's Brian off a suplex attempt. Trent gets in and hits germans on CC. Trent tornado ddt's Strong. Trent tries to tope Killswitch but KS chokeslams him on the apron. Strong catapults Trent into the bottom rope and we go to PiP break.
We return and CC has Trent in a chinlock. CC reverse ddt's him. CC misses a top rope headbutt. Strong hits OC's weak kicks on Trent. Both tag out. OC top rope crossbodies CC then Brian moves. Brian blocks OC's ddt then is caught in a stunner. OC topes Strong. OC ddt's Brian for 2.
OC orange punches KS then DG backdrops Strong. CC spears DG then Hook overhead suplexes CC. Brian spinning full nelson slams Hook then F-5's OC. Everyone fights. OC goes to tope Strong but takes a backbreaker on the floor. Brian is double lariated over the top. KS lariats Trent in the back of the neck and pins him.
It was just average. Nobody did anything too crazy due to the PPV tomorrow. It wasn't anything special and basically just time filler.
The heels beat up the faces after and The Undisputed Kingdom join in. Menard tries to help out and takes a chokeslam on an unfolder chair. Hook jumps off the steps and lariats Brian then DG and CC fight up on the ramp.
Overall thoughts: There was nothing to see here. It was little more than time filler and had little of interest. Skip this.
I agree with pretty mucn everything you said, this is one of the weaker episodes of Collision in recent memory.
ReplyDeleteYeah. It felt like half-filler and half taking it easy before the PPV. Not awful, just not the most interesting edition.
