WWF Summerslam 1990 8/27/1990

WWF Summerslam 1990 8/27/1990

This took place on a Monday.

Vince McMahon and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper are our commentators. Piper is hyped up and Vince says our first match should be a humdinger.

The Rockers vs Power and Glory

Shawn gets his knee nailed here but they cut away

No entrance for Power and Glory here. This is P&G's first big TV match. P&G jump The Rockers as they enter and the bell is rung before the wrestlers even get in. Herc hits Shawn with a chain then hits him in the knee with it. Marty gets 2v1'd then Paul hits great shots on Marty inside.

Paul goes up and over then Marty hiptosses both P&G members. Marty double dropkicks both P&G members then bangs their heads together. Slick gets on the apron as Marty gets double teamed. Marty cradles Roma but the ref is busy with Slick.

Herc hits punches on Marty and crossbodies him on the ropes with only Herc going over. Marty is sent hard into the buckles then he sunset flips Roma. Roma hits Shawn in the knee outside as Shawn tries to get in. Herc gorilla press slams Marty and tries to slam him, but Marty rolls it into a pin attempt.

Paul backbreakers Marty then Marty powerslams him. Marty superkicks Herc then top rope fist drops Roma. Herc lariats Marty from the apron then Marty takes a double pop-up drop. Herc lariats Marty. P&G hit a powerplex and Roma picks up the win over Marty.

Thoughts: Shawn was hurt here, hence him never getting in. I didn't like how the start of this was done with The Rockers getting hit with weapons before it even started and the ref starting the match before The Rockers even got in the ring. That was bogus. As for the match, they made the best of it considering the circumstances but it's such a shame they couldn't have a full 2v2 match here. It would have been really good.

P&G stomp on Shawn's knee after and Marty tries to lay over Shawn's leg to protect it. Refs come out to stop this and they bring a stretcher out for Shawn. Shawn is stretchered out.

Sean Mooney interviews Mr. Perfect and Bobby Heenan. Sean asked if he ever prepared for a title defense on such short notice (They said it was 10 days, but Kerry challenged him on 8/11/1990 Superstars). Perfect said he hasn't and said being perfect has its problems. He said when you are perfect, there's few and far quality challenges. Sean asks if its smart to accept a challenge from someone he knows so little about. Heenan said if you've seen one Texas Tornado, you've seen them all. Heenan said he's the texas tornado because he got his head in the clouds. He said his feet isn't on the ground. He said a texas tornado does no damage because you can spot it a mile away. He said all it does is kick up some dust and flip some mobile homes. Perfect then says nobody beats Mr. Perfect.

Mene Gene Okerlund interviews The Texas Tornado. Tornado says there's tornado warning all over Summerslam. He said the only tornado he has to worry about is the one in the black cloud hanging over his head. He said when it touches down in the ring, it will destroy veerything in his path. He said tornadoes are powerful, unpredictable and devastating. He said he will take the IC title with him when the match is over.

WWF Intercontinental Title - Mr. Perfect (c) vs "Texas Tornado" Kerry Von Erich

Kerry changed trunks between the interview and the match as he's now wearing white trunks. Perfect is shoved into the buckles and stalls outside. Perfect armdrags him then hiptosses him. Perfect chops him then takes an armdrag. Kerry slams him then lariats him over the top.

Kerry hits punches on Perfect and wristlocks him. Perfect haymakers him and hits more shots. Perfect pulls Kerry's head forward then sleepers him. Perfect hits punches and slaps him. Perfect turns his back then gets catapulted into the post. Kerry iron claws him then discus punches him for the win!

Thoughts: I had forgot who won this one and was surprised to see Kerry win it. It was short and Kerry really didn't get much in at all here before the victory.

Perfect falls out of the ring after.

Mean Gene Okerlund talks about Kerry's title win. He said he had planned to interview Sapphire but she is not available. Heenan and Perfect walk in. Heenan said there was no justice out there and the worst officiating in the world. He said Kerry broke every rule. Gene tells him not to cry and Heenan threatens him,. Perfect said Kerry came on the scene and came from under everyone to take the title. Perfect says he will be back to reclaim what belongs to The Family. Heenan says the moron ref can't count. Perfect says he will be back and what is rightfully his will be returned to him.

Sapphire vs Sensational Sherri

Dusty's music hits but Sapphire doesn't come out. Sherri is wearing a mask and looks like something out of Cats. Sapphire's music hits again and she is nowhere to be found. Rene Goulet comes out and talks to Howard Finkel and the ref. Fink says Sapphire has 30 seconds to come out or risks forfeiture. Sapphire doesn't come out and Fink announces Sherri the winner via forfeit. Vince asks "what the heck is going on?".

Thoughts: A bait and switch always sucks, but we know there's more to this. It's not a good look though when 2 of your first 3 matches don't happen as advertised though.

Mean Gene Okerlund interviews Dusty Rhodes. Gene said he saw Sapphire and Dusty arrive today. Dusty said he doesn't know where she was as she disappeared 10 minutes after they arrived. He said he looked and asked all around. He said he's worried big time. Jim Duggan comes in and said they are all looking for her. Gene asks about the gifts she's been receiving. Dusty said nobody gets something for nothing. He says Sapphire's the happiest she has ever been. Dusty said he has to go find her. Gene says Sapphire said she would receive the biggest gift of all at Summerslam.

The Warlord vs Tito Santana

Slick is with Warlord here. Tito side headlocks him then Warlord throws him off a backdrop. Tito hits some punches then arm wringers him. Tito elbow drops War's back then hits nice dropkicks. War slams him then misses an elbow drop. Tito jumps up on his shoulders and hits mounted punches. Tito is sent out when he tries to pin War.

Tito's back is rammed into the post and Slick teases hitting Tito with his shoe. Piper calls it "chemical warfare". War stomps Tito's back then hits shots on him. Tito boots him in the corner then running lariats him. Tito hits a great flying forearm for 2.

War blocks a monkey flip then powerslams him for the win.

Thoughts: It was a short one here. Tito looked great as always and Warlord didn't do much but various punches and clubs. I thought it could have been longer.

Sean Mooney interviews Demolition. Sean said he thought only 2 members of Demolition could be here. Ax says only 2 can be at ringside. They talk about all of the possible combinations they could do here. Ax says they will demolish The Hart Foundation and Smash says just like every team who has gotten in their path. Crush calls the LOD a bunch of imposters who need their butts kicked. Smash says they need their teeth kicked down their throat, which Ax says is just like The Hart Foundation.

The Hart Foundation are interviewed by Mean Gene. Bret thought they would be facing Ax and Smash and it's been confusing. Neidhart says they don't pay me to think, they pay me to be tough like an anvil. Jim says he doesn't care. Bret says they will make flatliners out of Smash and Crush. Neidhart says they will have to buy pacemakers out by the truckload. Bret says they are two hearts beating as one.

WWF Tag Titles - 2/3 Falls - Demolition (c) vs The Hart Foundation

Smash and Crush are the two Demolition members for this one.

1st fall - Smash and Bret start us off. They tug of war, crush comes in and Jim nails Crush. Smash takes a double back elbow then Bret back rolls Smash for 2. Bret armdrags him then Jim helps work Smash's arm. Jim bites Smash's arm and Bret hits Smash in the spine. Bret legdrops Smash's arm then Smash slams Bret. Crush throws Bret on a slam and misses a knee drop.

Bret hits punches on Crush then Crush slams him off a crossbody attempt. Bret boots Crush in the corner then rolls him up for 2. Smash and Anvil fight. Jim shoulders him over then takes a boot from Crush on the apron. Smash double axe handles Jim then Jim lariats Crush out of the corner.

Bret hits punches on Smash then lariats him. Bret dropkicks Crush and hits mounted punches on him. Bret atomic drops Smash then throws him into Crush, knocking Crush out of the ring. Bret russian legsweeps Smash for 2. Bret backbreakers Smash then 2nd rope elbow drops him. Crush legdrops Bret's neck. Bret takes a demolition decapitation and Crush pins Bret. Demolition wins the first fall.

2nd fall - Bret is double teamed to start this. Crush nodowa otoshi's Bret then Smash backdrops him for 2. Crush cranks Bret's head then Smash bangs Bret's head off the buckles. Bret flying lariats Smash then tags out. Jim pounds on both Demo members then back elbows Smash. Jim powerslams Smash for 2. Jim is whipped into a corner spear on Smash then Smash takes a hart attack for 2 when Crush blocks the ref. Crush lifts the ref up and carries him, earning himself a DQ.

3rd fall - We're tied one fall a piece here. Crush knocks Bret out of the ring and Bret is down outside. Ax comes down and hides under the ring. Bret slingshot sunset flips Smash then atomic drops him. Jim flying shoulders Smash then slams Bret onto him. Ax comes out from under the ring and hits shots on Bret. The ref sees Ax clearly and does nothing then Ax lariats Bret over.

Ax slams Bret for 2. Ax argues with the ref and the ref (Earl Herbner) still somehow doesn't know Smash isn't in there. Bret is thrown into the buckles chest first. Crush tilt-a-whirl backbreakers Bret. Smash and Ax double team Bret outside while the ref isn't looking. Smash trades places with Ax then Bret takes a stun gun. The Legion of Doom come out. They pull Ax out from under the ring. Crush goes for demolition decapitation but is crotched on the ropes. Crush takes a slingshot shoulder block then Bret rolls up Crush to win the match 2 falls to 1.p

Thoughts: This is the 3rd match so far with shenanigans. The ref not being able to tell Ax and Smash apart from each other is really stupid. They don't have the same hair or face paint and ref's like Hebner have been dealing with these guys for 3 years at this point. It's not like with The Killer Bee's who wore the exact same mask, these guys are wearing clearly different facepaint. The ref also talked to Ax and somehow still didn't know who it was. I just can't buy that the ref can't tell them apart.

The Legion of Doom coming down made sense as it furthers the Demolition/LOD feud that they've been teasing. Demolition, especially Crush, didn't come off that great here as they cheated, got caught and lost over it.

All in all, I didn't really like this match that much. It wasn't their best work and the switching partners stuff didn't work at all. If they would have put Smash and Ax the same style facepaint and only did it for the pinfall attempt like they did on SNME, it might have worked better.

They push Wrestlemania VII, showing the various wrestlers on vehicles and stuff trying to get there.

Mean Gene says it's a political year and he'd hate to be an incumbent. The Legion of Doom come in. Animal said they said they wanted Demolition for weeks. Animal said they ignored them and they hope they are mad. Animal said they want them in the worst way. Hawk says Demolition have run rough shot over everyone. He said if you look up rough shot, you will see a photo of them. Hawk says they are micro men in a big man's world. Hawk says oh what a rush.

The Hart Foundation come in. Jim said they did it against all odds and will take on anyone. Bret says they will take on anyone, anytime, anywhere. Jim says 2v2, 2v3, 10v10, whatever. Hawk is asked how they fit in here. Hawk says anyway they want. Gene said he couldn't make heads or tails of what happened and said we have new tag team champions.

Sean Mooney goes to Demolition's locker room. They are yelling and arguing inside and Sean said they are threatening The Legion of Doom. He said they hold the LOD responsible for losing the tag titles. Sean tries to go in but they slam the door on him.

Sensational Sherri is interviewed by Mean Gene. She said she was so good that she intimidated her opponent into not showing up. She said you can gloat all you want when you do that. Gene said it seemed Sapphire vanished. Sherri said maybe she's not so dumb after all and was smart enough not to take a beating. She said she heard rumors about what happened but doesn't explain further.

We go to a five minute intermission.

Mean Gene goes to Bad News Brown's dressing room. He opened up the caged box that Brown had and found a rat in it. He also went into the shower and saw Damien in there.

The Big Boss Man is interviewed by Mean Gene. Boss says he will uphold the law and isn't afraid of snakes or things from the sewer. He said he's been dealing with that stuff all of his life.

Sean Mooney interviews Nikolai Volkoff and "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan. Jim said he was proud to have Volkoff as a brother and friend but is proud to have him as a tag partner. Nik says he loves Jim and says he's his idol. He said they will beat The Orient Express tonight. Sean talks about Mr. Fuji and said the edge may go to them. Nik says they are The American Express and do Duggan's "hoooo".

Mean Gene interviews Jimmy Hart, Earthquake and Dino Bravo. Quake says there will be a disaster and it will happen here at Summerslam. He said Hulk went out on a stretcher the last time they went face to face. He said Hulk makes the most foolish decision of his career by facing him tonight. He asks where is the Hulk who encouraged his fans to say their prayers. He said that Hulk is saying his prayers as he knows what its like to feel the devastation of an earthquake. Quake goofs and said there will be 2 stretchers - one for Hulk and The Big Boss Man. Dino said he will take care of whoever is in Hulk's corner.

Hart says there will be 2 stretchers side by the side in the ring at the same time. Quake says the ambulances better be lined up because this is one earthquake you can predict. He says Hulkamania will crumble once and for all into complete devastation.

Jake Roberts is interviewed by Sean Mooney. He said they don't call him "The Snake" for nothing. He says Bad News Brown hangs around sewer rats. He said he's not afraid of sewer rats as he doesn't have to be. He asks how hungry Brown is. He says this will come down to hunger and said it separates a man like him from a mouth like Brown.

Special Ref: The Big Boss Man - Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs Bad News Brown

Brown brought his box cage out and the match starts before Boss even gets in there. Brown escapes a ddt then hiptosses him. Brown hits a legdrop then argues with Boss. Brown escapes another ddt and punches Jake outside. Brown chairs Jake in the gut right in front of the ref.

Jake is thrown into the buckles hard then lariats him. Brown misses a 2nd rope fist drop then Jake kneelifts him. Jake hits punches then short arm lariats Brown. Brown back body drops him then chairs him in the gut. Brown then disqualifies Brown.

Brown and Boss argue about it. Brown grabs the snake bag and Boss stops him frog legdropping it. Boss and Brown tease going at it then Brown nails Boss from behind. Jake then pulls Damien out of the bag. He puts it on Brown and Brown runs out.

Thoughts: We are now on our fourth match with shenanigans here. This was short and disappointing like most of the matches have been so far. They likely started off a Brown/Boss Man feud here.

Mean Gene interviews Demolition. They are mad at being called former champs. Demolition accuses The Hart's of cheating. Crush says they weren't man enough to go man vs man against them so they will go after them. Ax says they will get back at The Legion of Doom. He says they have ugly faces and their faces will be uglier when they are done with them. Smash says they will regret walking in the shadow of Demolition and said the shadow will get darker, just like their feature. Ax says they will never forget the name Demolition. Smash says Hawk will be hawking hot dogs in the stands when they are done and Crush says Animal will be neutered when they are done. This was a silly promo.

The Brother Love Show

Love is in the ring with a red carpet over the mat. He says Philly is the city of love. Love said the fans parents told them what to do when they were kids and didn't know better. Love said they still need to be told what to do because they are soft and weak. Love says his guest is all about telling you what to do.

Drill Sargent Slaughter comes out. Sarge and Love hug. Sarge says he's here to present the most prestigious award in America today. He said as he tried to do this, he found that America has become weak and soft. He said he found one man deserving enough to wear the Sgt. Slaughter Great American Award. He said that man is Brother Love. Love is shocked and salutes him.

Love says thank you and says it's the most beautiful medal he has ever seen. He said Volkoff got a medal but it was much smaller. Love asks what he thinks about America opening its arms to Volkoff. Sarge says he's declaring war on Volkoff. He says America's too chicken to declare war. He said he's not afraid, he's got the courage and he's declaring war on that pinko commie, maggot scum, puke. He said the fans accepting Volkoff won't help him one bit, as he will become soft. Sarge says if war breaks out tomorrow in the Middle East, Saddam would kick our boys butts. Sarge says just like he would kick Volkoff's butt.

Thoughts: This was pretty much in line with what Sarge has been saying on the weekly shows. He's obviously supposed to be the heel here, but you can sympathize with Sarge as he thinks Volkoff is bad and America is wrong for forgiving his past.

The Orient Express are interviewed by Sean Mooney. Fuji said the Soviets and the US superpowers come together against the honorable Japanese. He said Hacksaw has one cross eye but they hit so hard that Hacksaw will have 2 cross eyes. Sean says we have late breaking news and we cut to Mean Gene.

Gene finds Sapphire but she slams the door on him. Gene says we know Sapphire is safe behind the door. He says he doesn't know about Sherri's wild rumors though and says he will keep us up to date.

The Orient Express vs Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Nikolai Volkoff

The faces sing "God Bless America". Duggan gets on the mic and says may God bless our friends in the Middle East.

The heels jump the faces at the bell then take atomic drops, getting sent into each other. The heels go out then Nik pushes Tanaka over. Tanaka tries to shoulder him but is knocked over. Nik lifts Tanaka but is top rope chopped by Sato. Mr. Fuji hits Nik with his cane.

Sato side kicks Nick then Tanaka drops Nick with a punch. Tanaka misses a splash then Duggan hits a double lariat on the heels. Duggan punches both and bangs their heads together. Duggan lariats both over then the heels are thrown into each other. Sato is lariated out then Duggan hits the 3 point stance lariat on Tanaka. Duggan and Volkoff win.

Thoughts: It was short but it worked. The faces got their win in before they were exposed here. Everything looked good.

Survivor Series 1990 is on November 22nd, 1990 this year.

Dusty Rhodes and Mean Gene are trying to get into Sapphire's room. Dusty said he doesn't know what's wrong. He said he needs her in his corner and he's worried sick. Dusty said something is going down here and said he is getting to the bottom of this when his match is over. Mean Gene said a puzzled and confused Dusty Rhodes is on his way to the ring.

Sean Mooney is on a ladder trying to interview Macho King Randy Savage, who is going to be carried on his throne. Sean tells Randy that Sapphire won't be there with Dusty. He says "so the rumors are true". Savage says Dusty was not the common man the forefathers had in mind. He says he will lay Dusty to rest 1-2-3 and says millions of commoners are waiting to catch a glimpse of the Macho King.

Dusty Rhodes vs "Macho King" Randy Savage

Savage enters in on his throne then Ted Dibiase and Virgil appear on the interview stage. Ted says everyone has a price for The Million Dollar Man. He says his money can buy anyone or anything. He said it bought Dusty's humiliation tonight. He says if you doubt him, feast your eyes on his newest purchase - Sweet Sapphire. Sapphire then comes out in a fur coat with a dress on...carrying a WWF duffle bag. Inside the bag is a bag full of money. Ted asks Dusty who he thinks got her all of this. He asks who but The Million Dollar Man could afford to do it? He said she didn't do anything that any of the fans wouldn't do. Ted said Sapphire has her price just like everyone else does. He then asks Dusty what he's going to do about it. Dusty goes after Ted then is nailed from behind by Savage.

The bell then rings after Dusty gets nailed. Savage top rope double axe handles him and Sherri gets a cheapshot in. Sherri chokes Dusty then Savage hits punches on Dusty. Dusty fires back with shots and drops Savage. Dusty elbows him in the head then Dusty dropkicks him. Sherri gets in the way of Dusty outside then Sherri gives Savage a purse. Dusty chases Sherri in the ring and grabs her by the hair. Savage nails Dusty with what looks like a loaded purse and gets the win.

Thoughts: We are now on our fifth match with shenanigans here. I didn't like this one starting with both men outside the ring and after Dusty got nailed. It was short and not anywhere close to what it could have been. It also had a dirty finish. The Sapphire turn here was good as was Dusty's reaction though.

We cut to Sean Mooney in the back. Sean is near Ted Dibiase's limo. Dibiase, Virgil and Sapphire come out. Ted says there's nothing that his money can't buy. Dusty heads to the back and catches up with them in the car but the car drives off. Dusty yells and is upset.

Hulk Hogan and The Big Boss Man are interviewed.  Hulk said he remembered what it felt like to be crushed under Quake. He said he remembers Quake's crew laughing about it and his fans crying about it. Hulk said he also remember Tugboat. He said the memory of the heels double teaming Tugboat is still fresh in his mind and that's why he's dedicating this match to Tugboat. He said he's going to the ring tonight with The Big Boss Man, making sure justice is served.

The Big Boss Man said this is Philadelphia were many rights of people were formulated. Boss says the only right Quake has is to get a beating and have millions of fans witness it with Justice Hogan ruling over it.  Hulk says just as Thomas "Boss Man" Jefferson stood at the side of George Washington Hogan as he chopped down the cherry tree with the 24 inch pythons, they will chop down Earthquake. Hogan asks what they will do when Hogan passes constitutional rights on Quake. That was a clever and fun promo.

Hulk Hogan vs Earthquake

The Big Boss Man is in Hogan's corner and Quake has Jimmy Hart and Dino Bravo in his.

They lock up and then Hulk is thrown back twice. Hulk goes out to recoup. Hulk hits some punches then Quake double axe handles his back. Hulk hits a boot out of the corner then hits lariats and punches. Hart and Bravo get on the apron then get nailed.

Hulk finally drops Quake with a punch then hits Hart and Bravo again. Hulk hits Bravo outside and Quake hits Boss Man outside. Boss throws Dino in and Hulk throws Quake in. Dino takes a double big boot as does Quake. Hulk bites Quake then Dino hits Hulk from behind. Hulk is double slammed. Quake elbow drops Hulk for 2.

Quake goes up top and clubs Hulk's back. Quake crabs Hulk and Hulk rope breaks. Bravo slams Hulk outside while Boss argues with the ref. Quake slams Hulk then misses an elbow drop. Hulk eye rakes Quake but can't slam him. Quake bearhugs Hulk. Hulk grabs onto the ref and rips his shirt up.

Hulk hit shoulderblocks on Quake and goes for a crossbody but is powerslammed. Quake does Hulk's ear pose while trying to pin him with a foot on the chest. Quake butt drops Hulk and Hulk is going into spasm's. Quake hits another butt drop but Hulk pushes him off. Hulk starts to hulk up and hits punches on Quake. Hulk boot Quake and slams him. Hulk hits the legdrop while Bravo is on the apron. Jimmy Hart hits Hulk in the ring then Hulk throws Hart onto Quake. Boss throws Dino out then Hulk and Quake go out too.

Hulk and Quake fight outside. The ref watches Hart nail Quake with a megaphone when Hulk moves. Hulk slams Quake on a table and wins by countout.

Hulk celebrates after. Quake chokes hulk then Boss hits Quake with a step stool. Quake gets large welts from the stool on his back. Dino and Quake surround Boss then Boss grabs his night stick and they back off. Hulk does his big posedown after.

Thoughts: I liked that they saved Quake here by having Hulk win by countout and not a pin. I didn't like Hulk kicking out of the second Quake butt drop here as the first one put Hulk out months ago.  I thought at the very least the seconds should have been thrown out after the shenanigans early or at worst, someone should have been DQ'd. I have no idea what Hulk ripping the ref's shirt was about and that didn't end up leading to anything. There was too much shenanigans here in this one to the point that it might as well have been a tag match and I wasn't a huge fan of it.

I really would have just did a simple match here. Hulk could have failed to get anywhere with Quake early. Hulk could have had his ribs or chest taped up from Quake's attack months ago. Quake could have worked the injured part, ripped the tape off and so forth. Then Quake could have missed his butt drop, maybe Dino could have tried to interfere and gotten hit for it then Hulk would have won. Quake could have even rolled out or fell out onto the table after missing the butt drop and that would have worked as well.

I'm really disappointed with Tugboat not being involved in this. He was treated as Hulk's best friend and was an important part of this feud, yet he got replaced last minute. There's no real reason why either since he was on TV before and after the feud. Bruce Prichard claims that he was going to turn heel on Hulk as Sheik Tugboat and it fell through due to Sargent Slaughter returning.

Rick Rude and Bobby Heenan are interviewed by Sean Mooney. Rick Rude talks about Rocky Balboa in the spectrum. He said Rocky fought the seemingly invincible Apollo Creed. He said that was Hollywood and this is reality. He said Warrior knows nothing about a steel cage match. Rude says he has the advantage and Warrior will have nowhere to run or hide. Rude said it will seal his fate and he will take his place next to the Rocky statue.

Heenan says there's two ways to win - escaping the cage or pinning your opponent. He said there won't be anything left of Warrior by the end of it and there won't be any sequels. Rude said there will be no rematch.

Dusty Rhodes is interviewed by Mean Gene. He says what he calls this situation is emotion. He said this sport is built on emotion. He said Sapphire took the money, but he offered up his innocence to her and she paid him back in scorn. Dusty said the fans were asking when he's gonna get mad and get even. He says Ted Dibiase can buy anything but he's getting bad and is coming for him.

We see Lord Alfred Hayes at ringside watching the cage get built. He said the crew are trying to beat their record of 8:42 to build the cage. He said the cage weighs over 3,000lbs.

Mean Gene Okerlund interviews Hulk Hogan. Hulk said the only thing left to do is ride up to Jack Tunney's office and say the Hulkamaniac's are still the strongest force in the universe. He said they are building new buildings all around the country and they are earthquake proof. He said he will beat Quake all around the country until Tunney puts him back in the #1 Contender's spot. Hulk said the letters from his fans proved this would last forever. He said there are four demandments now and the fourth is believing in yourself. He said he's building a new surfboard and is chasing every shark he can find. He says he's going to catch the tidal wave and ride it.

Vince and Piper talk. Piper said Hulk felt Earthquake and found out he's human. Piper says he thinks Hulk wants another shot at him. Piper says Quake is out there to take and give pain.

Piper said whoever invented going over the cage is like putting sharks in a swimming pool.

Earthquake, Jimmy Hart and Dino Bravo are interviewed. Quake says he's not finished with Hulk yet and says the war has just begun. He said he's coming for Boss Man too. He said he will get revenge on both. He said anytime, anywhere, the quake will be there. Quake says he doesn't know what Hulk's been doing, but it worked tonight. He said he will give him more damage next time before the earthquake. Hart tells Hulk to get his earthquake insurance. Dino said Boss Man had a stick and steel chair and it still couldn't stop Earthquake.

Mean Gene Okerlund interviews The Ultimate Warrior. Warrior asks if he knows what Heenan and Rude have in common with The Liberty Bell. He said one is cracked and the other is a ding dong. Gene is confused and both laugh. Warrior says he will protect his right to be champion and must do what the forefathers did - never embrace defeat and be willing to step into new frontiers and make sacrifices. He said Rude can't prevent the establishment of a more perfect union between him and The Warriors. He said his Warriors aren't scared of new frontier, they revel in it. He said these things are the lifeblood of The Ultimate Warrior.

WWF Title - Steel Cage Match - The Ultimate Warrior (c) vs Rick Rude

Warrior shakes the cage and runs around the ring. Warrior has his cool black and yellow outfit on. Rude climbs the cage and talks trash. Warrior holds his belt up at him and climbs the cage. They fight on top of the cage and Rude has his head banged off of it.

Warrior top rope clubs Rude in the head then sends him into the cage several times. Warrior tries to crossbody him but goes into the cage. Rude climbs the cage and boots Warrior. Rude then clubs him off the top rope. Rude is bleeding then throws Warrior into the cage.

Warrior is thrown hard into the cage, shaking it. They trade shots. Rude goes for the rude awakening and Warrior blocks it. Warrior drops him then Rude gets his knees up on Warrior's splash. Rude hits a rude awakening and climbs the top of the cage. He top rope clubs Warrior in the head instead of walking out of the cage. Heenan asks where Rude's going as Rude goes up top again.

Rude comes off the top and is hit in the gut. Heenan bangs the cage door into Warrior's head as he tries to escape. Rude gets a 2 count on Warrior. They collide heads and both go down.

Rude tries to crawl out and has both Warrior and Heenan tugging on him. Warrior pulls down Rude's pants, exposing his butt. The crowd reacts big as he turns toward the front row, mooning everyone. Warrior pulls Heenan in and hits a big punch. Warrior then atomic drops Heenan out of the cage. Rude running lariats Warrior.

Warrior shakes the ropes as Rude pounds on him. Warrior hits running lariats then gorilla press slams him. Warrior then climbs over the cage and mocks Rude's gyrations as he climbs out. Warrior hits the floor and wins the match.

Warrior poses with the title on the cage then swings it around.

Thoughts: Escape the cage matches are always somewhat flawed as people have chances to escape yet opt not to. Both guys had it won at points but chose to beat up their opponent instead. Ignoring that, it was pretty good. Warrior got his shots in on Rude and Heenan and they made you satisfied yet wanting more. Rude bled here which was nice and Warrior did a nice crossbody into the cage. The match was on the shorter end here going only 10:05, but it was enough time. I remembered this one being longer than it was.

Overall thoughts: To be honest, this show was pretty bad outside of the main. We had multiple bait and switch moments here with Sapphire and Tugboat not being involved for various reasons. A lot of the matches didn't get enough time either or had dirty finishes. Shawn Michaels got hurt so there was no great Rockers vs Power and Glory tag here, but they did cover his injury well. The tag title match was just stupid with the ref talking to Ax and still somehow not knowing it was him instead of Smash despite them not looking alike. Jake/Brown was disappointing, Kerry/Perfect was disappointing and Dusty/Savage was disappointing. They saved some of Quake's credibility in his loss to Hogan but I thought it was long and had too much shenanigans. The cage match was a little short, but it was good and left you wanting a little more. I wasn't a fan of this one. I got really mad that I had watched months of TV and didn't get a good payoff on some on the feuds and matches.
