Ring of Honor on HonorClub 3/21/2024 Episode #56

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/03/ring-of-honor-on-honorclub-3142024.html

ROH Women's TV Title Tournament Semifinal - Billie Starkz vs Mercedes Martinez

MM fireman's carry takeovers her and full nelsons her. MM front facelocks her. BS back elbows her and MM blocks an armdrag. BS armdrags her into a pin attempt and MM reverses it. BS kicks her in the back of the head then is suplexed. MM delay suplexes her then stomps her as she sits on the 2nd rope. MM eye rakes her.

BS hits a strike combo then germans her. BS topes her and goes for another, but Diamante pulls MM out of the way. MM bridging twisting neckbreakers her from the rail to the floor. MM hits a nice top rope superplex. She hangs onto it then BS hits oblivion on MM.

MM hits forearms on BS then euros her. BS blocks a razor's edge then crossbodies her off the apron. BS top rope swantons her for 2. They each try pin attempts and BS knees her in the face. BS shotgun dropkicks her then gori bombs her. Diamante distracts BS up top then MM hits a dominator.

MM saito suplexes her then BS cradles her. BS rolls her up and gets the win.

It went a little longer than it needed to and I didn't love the finish but it was mostly fine. I thought BS needed to get beaten up more to make the quick pin finish more of a surprise, though everyone knew BS wasn't losing here.

ROH Women's TV Title Tournament Semifinal - Queen Aminata vs Red Velvet

Queen takes her down then side headlock takeovers her. Red tries to roll and kip up out of a wristlock but is sent back down. Queen rubs her butt in Ref's face and Red spanks her. Right after this they talked about Queen is worried about respecting Ramadan. I'm sure that spot is totally in-line with the holiday tradition. Red teases rubbing her butt in her face but just twerks instead.

Red armdrags her. Red tries a diving hurricanrana off the top, initially gets blocked then hurricanrana's her. Red rolls her up off the casadora. Queen catches her and hits a fallaway slam. Queen kicks her against the bottom rope then hits a nice snap suplex. Queen backbreakers her.

Queen misses a corner hip attack then Red hits shots to the body. Red double chops her and limbos out of a lariat. Red flying sling blades her then leg lariats her. Red hits a stiff bulldog for 2. Red rolls her into a double stomp for 2. Red hits more double stomps and Queen germans her. Red kind of flips out of a german on the apron then spears her on the apron. Red then double knees her back against the steps.

They trade shots and Queen germans her. Queen hits a spinning fisherman's neckbreaker for 2. Red spin kicks her in the face then takes a headbutt. Queen wins it.

This got a lot of time and was one of Red's better efforts. Queen is good enough that quality is the expectation at this point. I thought it was a really positive match that helped out both girls. Stuff like this is what I wanted out of ROH all along - younger and inexperienced workers getting longer, full-length matches that they wouldn't get elsewhere. Good effort here by both and I liked it.

Kiera Hogan is interviewed. She said she's feeling hype and said she will be the first challenger for the Women's TV Title. She said Diamante beat her but she still has some fight left in her. She challenges Dia for next week, saying she will see her in the ring or at home.

Lee Johnson vs London Lightning

London's the hometown boy here and is over. They lock up and Lee wristlocks him. Lee hammerlocks him then London drops Lee with a punch. Lee boots him in the gut then hits a nice dropkick. London cradles him for 2 then rolls him into a suplex.

London elbow drops him and the announcer's compare him to Paul Roma. Lee hits lariats then neckbreakers him. Lee takes knees to the head from the reverse ddt position then Lee superkicks him twice. Lee lifting reverse ddt's him and wins it.

It was a short one that didn't really accomplish whatever it was going for. I think Lee was supposed to get cheered but the crowd booed him and Lee went against the crowd.

Johnny TV and Taya Valkyrie are interviewed. Lexi asks how The Boys are. Taya said they have been difficult and said you can't teach an old Boy new tricks. Dalton Castle then shows up behind the scene. Johnny said they lost The Boys and said there was a bear while they were on the mountain. Dalton gets mad and says his boys are gone. Dalton says he's boyless. Lexi says he's not boyless as there are other boys and she points to them. Dalton says they are extra boys who are single use then are thrown out after. Lexi tells him to stop interrupting her interviews.

Rachel Ellering vs Hikaru Shida

They shake hands then Athena comes out and sits down on a chair. They lock up and Shida is backed up. Shida side headlocks her and they shoulder battle. RE shoulders her over and karelin's lifts her. RE misses a senton and is kicked. Shida flying knees her in the corner then hits corner punches.

RE's head is banged off the apron then she is thrown into Athena outside. Athena's chair is knocked over and asks Shida if she thinks it's funny. Shida says it is funny. RE baseball slides her then sentons her.

RE hits chops in the corner then pulls Shida's arms back. Shida suplexes her then flying knees her. Shida top rope dropkicks her for 2. Shida spinning knees her and lariats her. They trade shots ans Shida forearms her several times. Shida claw STO's her then RE TKO's her.

Shida falcon arrows her then spinning knees her in the head. Shida wins.

It was an average match and it was acceptable. I'm glad they had Athena involved here as it helped build up the Shida/Athena match.

Diamante is interviewed by Lexi. She said her loss was a fluke. She said her and Mercedes are first in line for a title shot and says Kiera better see her before she sees her first.

Matt Sydal vs TJ Crawford

They shake hands and Matt side headlocks him. Matt headlock takeovers him then snapmares him. Matt ducks a lariat and hurricanrana's TJ. Matt spinning headscissors TJ then spin kicks him.

MAtt spinning back elbows him in the corner. Matt's against the middle rope and TJ kicks the rope. TJ face kicks him then hits mounted punches. TJ throws him into the buckles hard. TJ hits a falcon arrow for 2. Matt spinning heel kicks him then hits a kick combo that drops him. Matt does a nice spinning gamengiri.

Matt fisherman busters him for 2. TJ hits kicks then an enzugiri. Matt high kicks him then does a jumping knee. Matt top rope meteora's him and wins it.

It was more of an even match that you would think and I thought TJ had a small chance of winning. It was entertaining and better than I had expected.

Eddie Kingston does a promo in the locker room. He said he lost to Okada and said he got a call from Homicide after. He asked Eddie why he's acting like such a b!tch. He asked where the Eddie is that he knows that gouges eyes and likes being vicious. Homicide told Eddie that guy could beat Okada. Eddie said that guy can beat Mark Briscoe. He said it's not personal with Mark, it's about the World Title. He said he can't lose again. He said he will bring more than just the fight, but the old Eddie. He said he's going to bust him up because he has to and can't lose again. He tells Mark to bring it or he can't be held responsible for what he does.

We currently have 3 matches set for Supercard of Honor.

Lexi is hyped that Billie won her match and is going to Supercard of Honor. They are hyped Athena has real competition too. Lexi says Shida has the kendo stick and is cool and crazy. Lexi says Shida's a three time women's champ and Athena said she's a three time loser. Athena says this is her show and her rules. She said she isn't letting Shida get her hands on the title then asks why they are talking about Shida. Athena says she's never been pinned or submitted in 40 matches. Athena accuses them of thinking she will lose. Billie didn't know and said, "she beat you?". Athena yells at them and Lexi says, "Holy Shida".

Anna Jay vs Mina Shirakawa

Mina her Stardom music here and does her dance. There was no hype, video packages or anything for people who may not know Mina.

Anna avoids a lock-up and poses then Mina does the same. Anna hits her on the ropes then back elbows her. Mina back elbows her then kicks her in the back. Anna headhunters her for 2. Mina dropkicks her in the knee then bangs the knee off the mat. Mina knee drops the leg then is rolled up.

Mina kneebreakers her then kicks her from the ropes. Anna back elbows her then spinning heel kicks her in the corner. Anna side kicks her then hits a gori bomb for 2. Mina spinning forearms her and they trade forearms on their knees. Mina dragon screws her then figure fours her.
Anna ropebreaks then Mina top rope dropkicks her for 2. Mina urakens her and pins her soon after.

They shake hands after.

I didn't think it was that good. Mina worked the knee for a bit and really just won with a random pin attempt. It was short also.

Overall thoughts: We know 3 matches for Supercard of Honor which is 2-3 more than we have known for other PPV's. The women's tournament stuff was good and they've been able to use that to make these matches have a bit more meaning. I liked Red and Queen and I liked Matt/TJ. Whatever they were going for with Lee Johnson failed here. Mina Shirakawa appeared on the show with no hype or build up and as usual, no champs wrestled on the show. They actually did an okay job of building up some stuff here and I thought it was an okay show.
