Next week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/08/wwe-smackdown-8152025.html
We are in Montreal, Canada. Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett are on commentary.
We see clips of Summerslam.
John Cena comes out and is cheered. The announcer still gives him the big intro. He says WWE were afraid to come to Montreal for a while as they thought the audience would hijack the show. He says he's never been afraid of that as the audience is the show. He says the noise is deafening. He says some performers would be scared. He says he might be afraid but he faces his fears head on. He says it doesn't last forever.
The crowd chants, "Thank You, Cena". He thanks the crowd. He says he has 11 shows left and he says he gets more and more afraid. He says he thanks the crowd for that. He says he's afraid the fans will forget about him. He says he's afraid of Brock Lesnar. He says he doesn't know what universe he'd choose Brock as an opponent but there's no universe where he'd back down from him. He says he's afraid - that Brock Lesnar got himself a John Cena problem. He tells Brock that when he wants some, come get some. He tells anyone in the back that if they want some, come get some.
Logan Paul comes out. LP says this version of John is making him sick. He says he doesn't even know him. LP says Cena doesn't know who he is and these people don't know either. He says he's been real since Day 1. He says Cena said himself that LP does wrestling better than any other pro wrestler. Cena said he did say that and said he also said LP is the biggest dumb@ss he has ever seen. He says Cena has turned into a charity case and is giving out matches.
LP says he wants a match. Cena says it sounds good. LP says this crowd doesn't deserve it but says Clash in Paris is box office. Drew McIntyre then jumps Cena. Cena is then double teamed. Cody Rhodes comes out to help Cena. LP and Drew are thrown out. Cena says he accepts a match vs LP at Clash in Paris. He says Drew and LP want to fight and Cena said it seems like he might have a partner. Cena then challenges them for tonight.
Thoughts: Yeah, Cena is back to being a face. Just ignore everything that happened the last 7 months...
The Motor City Machine Guns are interviewed. Alex has his ribs taped but says they made a legacy of getting back up when they get knocked down. Sabin says they aren't the champs and says their road to the top begins here.
The MFT's (Talla Tonga and JC Mateo) vs The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin)
JC backs up Alex on the ropes then shoulders him over. Alex hits punches on JC. JC takes a top rope dropkick + flatliner combo. Alex baseball slides JC. Sabin then dives under Alex's legs and topes JC. Tlla takes kicks from The Gun's on the apron. Talla pulls Alex down from teh apron and sends him into the rails.
We go to PiP break and return. Alex double boots JC out of the corner. Sabin top rope crossbodies JC. Sabin lariats him then superkicks him. Sabin tornado ddt's him for 2. JC takes superkicks then is rolled up by Alex for 2.
JC hits a double clothesline then tour of the islands backdrops Sabin. JC takes a double superkick. Alex gets on the buckles and is booted down by Talla. Talla chokeslams Sabin and wins.
Thoughts: This felt like a Vince match with The Gun's getting beaten as expected. It was what it was and was pretty average. It was a nice little burial of The Gun's.
Solo Sikoa gets on the mic after. He says to take a look as this is what greatness looks like. He says we are looking at the soon to be tag champs and the most dominant US champ. He says he's feeling good and is ready to fight but there's no one there to fight him. Solo says they will leave this crappy city and go celebrate.
Nick Aldis comes out. He says he has a special guest who is ready for a fight. He says it's someone they know well but someone Quebec knows very well. Sami Zayn then comes out.
Sami Zayn vs Solo Sikoa
They lock up. Solo backs him up in the corner then does his one finger pose. Sami hits forearms and punches. Sami hits mounted corner punches. Solo shoulders him over. Solo hits mounted corner punches then Sami hits some.
Sami blind springboards and lariats him over the top. Sami tope con hilos him. Talla hits Sami from the apron. We go to break and return.
Sami sunset bombs him off the buckles for 2. Solo uranage's him for 2. Sami corner exploders him then does it again. JC Mateor gets on the apron and is hit. Talla gets on the apron and Sami dares him to get in. Solo superkicks Sami. Sami rolls him up and wins.
Thoughts: The work was fine but there was a lot of interference near the end. I assume this sets up a Solo/Sami title match. I don't have a problem with Sami winning at home but I'm not a huge fan of Solo taking another loss yet again.
Charlotte Flair says she thought it would be nice to get Alexa Bliss a birthday gift. She says she won't give it to her in the hallway as it needs a stage and people.
We get a Wyatt Sicks video. Howdy says they will never leave you astray and when they speak, it will bear truth. Gacy says they showed them all that their power is nothing more than a harmless illusion. Dexter says they made them realize the true reality they kept hidden. Nikki Cross says something. Erick says there are more lessons to learn. He says it has only just begun.
B-Fab wonders what that means. DIY come talk to The Street Profits. Ciampa says they lost their titles to The Wyatt's and nearly killed LeRae. LeRae has a big bruise on her leg. B-Fab blames DIY for that. The two teams argue.
Nick Aldis comes in. He said he would have thought they calmed down after Summerslam. He says he will get control and it'll start with DIY vs The Street Profits on SD next week.
Carmelo Hayes goes up to The Miz. He asks where he's been and said he left him high and dry. He says he's gonna go ask for a US Title shot now. Miz complains about Logan, Paul and Flair getting matches. Melo says they are talking about him instead of Melo. Miz says that's why he got him and Melo a tag match for next week. Miz says they need to remind people who they are and says they are awes-him. Nick Aldis then walks in and Miz asks to speak to him.
Thoughts: There's been some big losers with SD moving to 2 hours and Melo and Miz are amongst them.
Chelsea Green vs Charlotte Flair
Green wristlocks her. Flair cartwheels out and shoulders her over. Flair walks on Green's back and superkicks her. Green then goes out. Green boots her in the gut then bangs Flair's head off the buckles. Flair chops her.
Flair fights off Green's crew on the apron then top rope crossbodies Green for 2. Flair goes up and over and backrolls her for 2. Flair is sent face first into the buckles. Flair is then curbstomped into the middle buckle.
We go to break and return. Flair forearms her and chops her. Flair forward cartwheel lariats her. Flair germans her. Flair high kicks her and hits natural secltion for 2.
Green superplexes her from the 2nd rope for 2. Green tells her buddies to grab the cake. The cage is brought in. Bliss cannonballs Piper and Alba off the apron. Green tries to do an unprettier into the cake but Flair reverses it and Green goes into it. Flair then figure eights her and wins via submission.
Thoughts: The finish was fun here and the work was in fine in this. I liked this. Can't beat a good cake spot.
Flair and Bliss eat cake after.
Tiffany Stratton is interviewed in the back. She says she will keep doing what she has been doing - keeping her title and defending it. Jade Cargill walks in. She says be thankful that her foot was on the ropes or she'd be standing here empty handed. Jade says the story will be different next time. Tiff says the outcome will always be the same.
Kiana James and Giulia walk in. KJ says to call her if she's serious about getting the title around her waist. Jade says she will do it her way. KJ says to hang onto the card. Michin comes in and says she might give the one with the glasses a call to get a US Title shot.
We get an Aleister Black video. He says he's allowed to use violence to stop violence from happening. He says that makes him evil but says there is no such thing as good and evil. He says the crowd cheered as Priest was going to send him through a table. He says he's not an eye for a eye guy but an eye for a limb guy. He says Priest is sitting at home nursing a hairline fracture in his jaw. He says when someone pushes Priest, Priest pushes back. Black says he pushes them off the cliff and waits to hear the smack. He says if that makes him a scape goat, then so be it.
John Cena talks to R-Truth in the back. They stare at each other and do the Marx Brothers mirror gag. Truth says Cena is back. He says if Cena is back, we back. He then hugs him. He says he was worried about Truth. He said he changed his hair, was beating people up and made a kid in Brussels cry. he says then he said he would ruin wrestling and asked if he really thought that would work. He said it's good to have him.
John Cena and Cody Rhodes vs Logan Paul and Drew McIntyre
Cody shoulders LP over and does a cartwheel. Cod armlocks him and is put in a side headlock. Cody hits a drop down uppercut then he gordbusters him. Drew chops Cody in the corner. Cody powerslams Drew.
Drew headbutts Cody down after LP distracts Cody. Cody is thrown out. LP lariats him outside but the camera's miss it so we have to see it on replay. We go to PiP break and return.
Cody hits punches on Drew. Drew blocks Cody's tag then spears the post when Cody moves. Cena comes in and hits flying shoulders on LP. He blue thunders him. Cena five knuckle shuffle's LP then hits an AA for 2. Cody lariats Drew over the top then topes him. LP low blows Cena and is DQ'd.
Thoughts: They did get much time for this and had a weak finish. This wasn't much but at least Montreal saw some of the stars.
LP beats up Cena in the aisle and to the back. Cody bangs Drew's head off the post and steps. Drew hits Cody with the title. Drew then dropkicks Cody through the front of the commentary table. Drew then talks trash to him as officials come out.
Overall thoughts: There wasn't a lot on this one. Cena's back to being a face like nothing had happened which I don't like on any level. The opener was average and a burial of The Gun's. Sami/Solo was fine but neither needed to lose and I expect a US Title match to be made off of it. I liked Green vs Flair and I enjoyed seeing the cake get used. The main wasn't much and just set the wheels in motion for Drew/Cody. I'd give it a 5 out of 10 as it was a pretty average show that didn't try to impress.
