WWE Smackdown 8/29/2025

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/08/wwe-smackdown-8222025.html

Next week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/09/wwe-smackdown-952025.html

We are in Lyon, France.

Michael Cole and Wade Barrett are on commentary.

We see various wrestlers arrive. We see clips of Logan Paul attacking John Cena last week then we see Logan Paul arrive.

Logan Paul comes out. He says Cena thinks he's a parasite and thinks the fans do too. He brags and takes credit for how well WWE is doing. He goes off on John Cena in French. He says wrestling is changing and if you don't change with him, you will get left behind.

John Cena comes out. Cena gets the big intro. Cena says the fans set the pace and they won't get left behind. He says Logan hasn't tried to understand what they actually do around here. He says if Logan did his homework, he'd find out he's a wannabe. He says Logan isn't a disruptor but is standing in the ring with one. Cena says he was knocking people out with brass knucks 20 years ago.  He says Logan is a dollar store John Cena.

Cena said he saw a list of the Top 25 influencers and says Logan wasn't on it. He says Logan isn't here to save wrestling, he's here to save his own @ss. Cena and Logan both talk in French. Cena says he's real unlike Logan. He says everyone is disgusted with Logan.

He says he wants to teach him respect. He leaves the ring. He goes up to a kid and says he's sorry, the same kid I think he insulted months ago. He says he was having a bad day. Logan says this segment is a charity case. Logan tells him to wrap it up.

Cena says Logan better polish his game against him or else he won't ruin wrestling, wrestling will ruin him.

Thoughts: Again, this Cena face stuff would work a lot better if he wasn't doing the complete opposite a few months ago. And that wasn't any more believable this than was.

The Street Profits and B-Fab are interviewed. Dawkins says they have to focus and the titles are theirs. Ford says Melo ain't him and The Miz is all talk.

Bo Dallas goes up to them. He asks if they are really family as The Wyatt Sicks are. He says they will find if they are each other's brothers when they fail.

Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair come out. Alba Fyre and Chelsea Green beat them up in the aisle.

Chelsea Green vs Alexa Bliss

AB pounds on her. Alba gets on the apron and AB goes after her. Flair had to be helped to the back during the break. AB  hits mounted shots on Alba and throws Green in. AB stands on Green's back. AB double knee drops Green then misses a rolling senton.

AB slaps her and is sent into the buckles face first. Green chokes her on the ropes then pump kicks her. AB spinning headscissors Green. AB cannonballs Alba off the apron. We go to break and return. AB's face is banged off the mat.

Green hits mounted punches. Green hits short arm lariats then stands on her poses. Green sleepers her. AB is thrown down backwards. Alba stomps AB outside. We go to break and return. Green hits a top rope dropkick and bangs AB's head off the commentary table. Green is sent into the rail. They trade shots on their knees then stand up and trade. AB shoulders Green over then basement dropkicks her. AB headhunters her for 2.

Green is put in three of woe and AB basement dropkicks her there. AB goes up top and Green gets her knees up on twisted bliss. AB rolls her up and pins her.

Thoughts: It was about what you would expect from these two. It was fine. Green lost again here which isn't good but I'm not surprised. I'm not sure what's going on with Flair.

Bliss and Alba pound on Bliss after. Charlotte Flair comes out limping. She drops Alba with a lariat. Flair chops Green then takes a killswitch. Alba gori bombs AB.

Sami Zayn is interviewed. Sami says when he was on Raw, he wasn't the best version of himself. He says he was in his own head. He says the way he feels tonight is the way he felt when he headlined Wrestlemania. He says he feels totally confident. He says there's no better place to do it in Lyon then he talks in French.

We get an Aleister Black video on Damian Priest. He says maybe it's time to take off the mask and show him what hell loos like. He says he wants to show the whole world how misguided he is. He says he will be on his chest at night telling him, "I warned you".

Damian Priest is interviewed. He says Black comes off educated and says he wants to be like him. He says he doesn't make empty threats. He says him doing so shows how unprepared he is for this fight. He says he will teach him a lot about pain and he says he will enjoy every bit of violence he inflicts on him when they fight.

Michin vs. Kiana James

KJ charges at her with her purse and is rolled up and pinned in seconds.

Thoughts: Now this was bogus.

Mich is stomped on by KJ and Giulia after. Mich is held for a knee to the face from Giulia. Mich's head is then banged off the rails. Mich is curbstomped into the steps.

Drew McIntyre comes out to talk and is looking for Randy Orton. Drew tells him to come out. Randy Orton comes out.

Drew says Orton attacked him last week for himself and because he was embarrassed about Summerslam. He says he also thinks Cody is his friend. Drew says Cody is nobody's friend and he's a manipulator and politician. Drew says Cody checked up on Orton when he was injured because he wanted intel. He says Cody went for Orton's back at King of the Ring. He says if Orton believes Cody is his friend, he's an idiot.

Orton says Drew makes a compelling argument. He says he's wrong though if he thinks he dropped him for Cody. He says he dropped him because he thanks he's a prick. Drew then knocks him down with a headbutt. Drew misses a claymore kick. Orton bridging ddt's him. Orton goes for an RKO and security and officials come down. Orton then RKO's security. Shane Helms covers up but Orton RKO's him too. Drew then retreats.

Melo Don't Miz talk in the back. Melo says Miz stole his win the last 2 weeks and he can't do it again. Miz says what's the problem as they are winning. Miz says they share their glory as a team and says they have lightning in a bottle. Miz does his lines. Bo Dallas comes in. He says there's always different perceptions but perceptions aren't reality. Melo tells him not to write a reality check that he can't cash.

Randy Orton and Nick Aldis talk in the back. Nick complains about him attacking security. He gives Nick whiskey. R-Truth comes in and asks if he will drink it. Nick says he will after the day he has had.

WWE Tag Team Title #1 Contendership Match - The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) vs. Melo Don't Miz (Carmelo Hayes & The Miz)

Ford side headlocks Miz. Ford goes up and over then does a cartwheel and flip. Ford dropkicks him. Miz takes a double flapjack. Miz jawbreakers AD. AD double shoulders his opponents over. AD hits corkscrew corner splashes and spinning enzugiri's Melo.

AD is held and Melo hits a nothin' but net on AD. We go to break and return. Melo hits punches on AD. AD takes a double back elbow and a legdrop from Melo. Miz hits kicks on AD. Miz hits a corner lariat and Melo hits a springboard twisting clothesline on AD. Miz stomps and foot chokes Ad in the corner then Melo chokes AD. Miz butt drops AD's back. Melo basement dropkicks AD for 2. Melo superkicks AD. AD then hits a big ending.

Miz and Ford get in. Ford top rope crossbodies him. Ford running lariats him then backdrops him. Ford standing moonsaults him. Miz ddt's Ford for 2. Ford olympic slams Miz then hits a top rope splash. Melo then top rope splashes Ford for 2. Melo springboards and runs into a jumping knee from Ford.

The Wyatt Sicks comes out. Miz is distracted and is forearmed off the apron. Melo then takes a sky high + neckbreaker combo and is pinned.

Thoughts: It was a decent tag. Miz and Melo were supposed to be the heels but it might as well have been a face vs face match here. Miz and Melo are really starting to gel and they have something with the team.

Bo Dallas stares down The Profits after. Jade Cargill goes up top Tiffany Stratton. She says she's the #1 contender to her title. Tiff takes credit for it. Jade says Tiff walks around like she's some huge threat when she can snap her. Tiff says she's undefeated in 2025. Jade says that dies when she beats her along with the fantasy of them being on the same level.

The MFT's talk outside. Solo says Sami thinks he has a change but says it won't happen. He says it's over with one samoan spike.

WWE United States Title Match - Solo Sikoa (c) vs. Sami Zayn

Solo is thrown out to start. We go to break and return. Sami's throat is pulled down over the top then Solo lariats him. Solo hits shots then Sami hits forearms. Solo back elbows him.

Solo hits mounted punches. We go to break and return. Solo corner hip attacks Sami for 2. Sami hits punches and Solo uppercuts him. Sami lariats him over the top. Sami tope con hilos him. The MFT's grab Sami and hit him outside. Sami then takes a superkick. Solo uranage's Sami for 2.

Jimmy Uso then comes out and fights The MFT's. Jacob Fatu then comes out, jumping off the rails onto Talla Tonga. Fatu is sent into the post thne Talla goes into it. Sami blue thunders Solo for 2. The other guys fight outside the ring and into the crowd. Solo uranages Sami onto the commentary table.

Solo stomps on Sami then throws him out. Solo uranage's Sami on the commentary table twice. They trade punches in the ring. They fight on the buckles. Sami sunset bombs Solo off the 2nd rope for 2. Solo pop-up samoan drops Sami then top rope splashes him for 2.

Sami rolls him up for 2 then exploders him in the corner. Solo superkicks Sami. Sami helluva kicks Solo twice and gets the pin.

Thoughts:
The match had a bunch of shenanigans and the first half of it was mostly various punches. I don't think it was the best match they could have had and it was a bit lazy. I didn't think it was that good of a match and it's hard to buy the excitement for Sami being US champ when his goal has been to win the world title (though they tried to write that off). I'm sure Sami will be alright but once they do another Fatu/Uso vs MFT's match, I'm not sure what's really left for that group to do.

Overall thoughts: The only real thing of note here was Sami beating Solo for the US Title and that was a bit hard to get excited about. We only had four matches here, and one lasted just seconds. The opener was fine. Michin/Kiana was bogus. The tag match was alright. I didn't think the main was the best effort from Sami or Solo. As has been the case for a while now, I don't think it was that good of an episode of Smackdown and there's hardly anything worth seeing here. This show is so far behind Raw at the moment and it's going to take some major kind of draft to shake things up. I'd give this a 4 out of 10 and wouldn't recommend it.
