AEW Dynamite 3/9/2022

AEW Dynamite 3/9/2022

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/03/aew-dynamite-322022.html

Chris Jericho comes out to talk. He said he lost to Eddie and it was one of the best matches he has ever had, which is stupid to say. Jericho said he didn't shake Eddie's hand as he was frustrated and said he wants to. He asks Eddie Kingston to come out.

Eddie said he wanted to go drink before the Jericho match and said Jericho was right - he lost to everyone and was afraid. Eddie said Jericho's handshake thing was for Jericho, not Eddie. Eddie said Jericho is still #1 though. Jericho said he respects him and asks him to shake his hand. They shake hands then 2.0 and Daniel Garcia come out. They attack them then Santana and Ortiz make the save. Santana holds up Garcia then Jericho nails Santana with the bat. Jake Hager comes out then nails Ortiz then Santana, Ortiz and Eddie are all down. Jericho slaps around Eddie and hits him with the bat end in the head.

Hager then powerbombs Eddie from the apron through the table and Eddit mostly has his head hit the table. Jericho says this is the "Jericho Appreciation Society" and says that is entertainment. They then do the Inner Circle middle finger pose.

This was a good angle and solves the issue with the Inner Circle being kind of stale and not needed much anymore.

We get a package of CM Punk talking about his match with MJF.

AEW Title - Adam Page vs Dante Martin

Dante Martin in 7-1, with wins over Aaron Solo and a win then a loss over Hobbs being his other being claim. This shouldn't be for the title.

Martin backflips out of an armlock then back rolls into headscissors and dropkicks him. Dante does a twisting springboard crossbody and Page falls over on the catch. Page then springboard 2nd rope lariats him off the apron then plancha's him, during the break.

Back from PiP break and Dante hits a dropkick off the top. Dane moonsaults him off the 2nd rope to the outside. They did a hurricanrana outside then Page hit a buckshot lariat back in to win it.

Dante did little but flip here. They only messed up one spot.

Page was interviewed after and told Dante to get back in the ring. He put over Dante and said he'd be happy to do it again if he makes it back to another title shot.

Adam Cole then came out. He said he got a fluke win. He said they should do it again then Page challenged him to a 6-man tag. Uh ok. He said his days are numbered as champion and he is coming for what he wants. Just not next week when it seems like Page would be willing to give him a shot. This made no sense.

Bryan Danielson and Jon Moxley with William Regal vs The Workhorsemen (JD Drake and Anthony Henry)

Mox slips on the ropes during his entrance and backdrops JD. Danielson hits kicks on JD then Henry hits kicks on Bryan. Mox pounds on him then Bryan pounds on him.

Henry top rope dropkicks Mox then JD chops Mox. Bryan hits his flying knee on JD then Henry gets a butterfly suplex on the floor by Mox. Danielson then reverse curbstomps JD then crossfaces him to win.

I hate people losing in their first real tv match and I don't get JD teaming with Henry over his faction.

Tony interviews Mox, Bryan and Regal. Regal said it has been 29 years since they first talked on TV. Regal teared up and thanked Tony for helping him. He said Bryan is the wrestler he should have been and the perfect wrestler. He said people who fight Bryan and Mox will step up or get stepped on.

The Dark Order was interviewed. Page came in and apologized for screwing up last week. Silver asks who he will choose for his partners next week and he said Jurassic Express asked him already.

Wheeler Yuta vs Pac

Yuta hits some dropkicks to start as we go to PiP break. We return and Pac is in control. Yuta is thrown outside and rebounds in then release german's Pac. Yuta his a top rope crossbody and is deadlift german'd for 2. Pac top rope superplexes him then wins with the brutalizer in a short one.

Cole, The Bucks and Red Dragon argue. The Young Bucks say they don't want to team with him so Cole picks Red Dragon instead.

FTR was interviewed. Dax talks about wanting to do things for his family. Dax wants to call out Red Dragon and The Bucks. Tully complains and said their arrangement is about them winning titles. Dax grabs him and says this is about family and fires him.

AHFO is having their emergency meeting in the ring. Matt isn't wearing his suit and said when he puts on the suit, he acts like an @sshole. He said he apologizes to Andrade and Private Party. He said he wants to make this right and Matt says they should have a vote on whether Matt stays or not. Andrade, his translator votes to fire him. Private Party votes to keep him then changes their vote. Andrade said you always need to watch your back then he gets beat up on. Darby and Sting then come out and beat up on AHFO but lose the fight. Jeff Hardy then comes out and helps out and they take out the heels. Jeff then hits the swanton and Darby is shocked. Jeff had his WWE music here.

Swerve Strickland then is interviewed. He is debuting on Rampage, which tells you where he stands already. Tony Nese interrupts and wants to be his opponent. Swerve accepts.

Wardlow is interviewed in the ring by Tony. He said he got tired making sure MJF fulfilled his dreams. He asked for forigveness. He said he grew up poor and thanked MJF for paying him well. He said it doesn't mean MJF gets to put his hands on him though. He said he is under contract to MJF but he doesn't care and is not his bodyguard or a Pinnacle member anymore. He says he is finally free. He asks MJF to release him from his contract. He said he only cares about winning the TNT Title and getting a new contract. He said AEW is Wardlow's World. This was a good promo.

QT Marshall and Keith Lee talk in the back. QT says they have a common enemy in Team Taz. He said they don't know each other but says The Factory has Lee's back. Lee says he is good and QT says he will pay.

AEW Tag Titles - Jurassic Express vs The Acclaimed

Max talked about high gas prices (which really are out of control right now) and said Jungle Boy can't grow pubes. JB evades a 2v1 early then top rope rolling senton atomico's off Lucha's shoulders. Bowens hits a spinning forearm on the floor on JB as we go to PiP break.

We come back from break and JB tope con hilos onto both opponents. Lucha chokeslams and standing moonsaults Max. JB gets crotched on the top rope then Max hits an elbow off the top on JB. JB takes some ugly looking double team move on his head. Max went for a weapons shot but Christian pulled him out. Bowens got on Lucha's shoulders then JB walked up the ropes and did a springboard doomsday device on him and won it.

Jade Cargill was interviewed with Mark Sterling. They asked who is left and asks who wants to receive her kiss of death and it seems she will be kissing girls from now on, which a lot of people will like.

#1 Contender to the AEW Women's Title - Leyla Hirsch vs Thunder Rosa

Rosa's smiling here so it seems like she will win (she looked unhappy during her entrance at the PPV when she lost). Rosa hits some armdrags and a dropkick to start. They go to PiP break early here. We return and Rosa lariats Leyla. Rosa dropkicks her back as she lays against the middle rope then dropkicks her in the chest as she lays against the ropes.

Rosa superplexes her off the top and there's a weird landing, then Rosa sliding clotheslines her for 2. Leyla gets a turnbuckle from under the ring but Red Velvet comes out and throws her back in the ring. Rosa tries to capitalize but Leyla turns her around into an armbar. Rosa then hits a driver for the win.

This was not good with the usual women's sloppiness.

Tony Schiavone then gets on the mic. He says Rosa's match with Britt for the title will be in a cage match, which was already revealed this week and somehow she didn't know.

Britt Baker did a promo. She didn't get why Rosa wasn't put in the back of the title shot line and didn't get why next week's match is a cage match. Britt said Rosa won in their lights out match, but asked who really won?

TNT Title - Sammy Guevara (c) vs Scorpio Sky

Sammy backflips over Sky then dropkicks him. They trade forearms outside then Sky just kind of runs himself into the barricade. A table is set up outside and Sammy superkicks Sky out there. Sky is put on the table then Sammy tries to 630 it off the top but Sky moves. Tay Conti then comes out (who has never been mentioned as his boyfriend on screen) and Sammy is holding his eye and shoulder.

We go to PiP break and somehow Sammy is not yet counted out. Sammy is being helped up the ramp and he wants to return and somehow is not counted out. The match continues in the biggest pile of BS I've ever seen. Scorpio Sky the ends up winning this after they wrestle for like 5 more minutes and after Paige Van Zant attacks Tay Conti. Tay and Sammy get laid out after.

Overall thoughts: There were a lot of issues on this one. New signees are losing in their national TV debuts or getting put on Rampage instead of Dynamite. The women's match sucked and the main was an all-time bad screw up.
