Big Japan Pro Wrestling 2/23/2022

We used to be able to get everything for free from BJW. That's not the case anymore. People aren't ripping it and there's just no way to get it without subbing. BJW has their own VOD service in BJW Core which costs $8 a month...but it's not allowing anyone to sign up due to an error in a bizarre state of affairs. Their niconico page works though and you have to subscribe to niconico premium and the BJW page to get access, which costs around $11 a month. They do have live shows which is cool but their previous live broadcasts are kind of time-limited rentals. If you are going to do this, it is recommended to use Google Chrome as it has an automatic translation feature that makes all of this easier.

Astronauts (Fuminori Abe and Takuya Nomura) vs Kazumasa Yoshida and Kosuke Sato

Sato and Abe flurry forearms to start then stare down. Sato and Abe then slap each other as Abe tags out. Nomura nails Yoshida with a chest kick. Yoshida dropkicks Abe then Sato is tagged in and runs to the corners and does nice dropkicks to both opponents.

Sato chest kicks Abe and they trade forearms. Abe then hits a nice dropkick and Nomura fires on Sato with forearms. Nomura drops Sato with a kick then Sato dropkicks him. Yoshida hits some dropkicks then running forearms both opponents in the corner.

Sato running dropkicks Nomura and he takes a nice spinebuster from Yoshida. Yoshida hits another dropkick on Nomura then Astronauts lock on double submissions for the submission win.

There were a lot of dropkicks here and probably too many, but most were good. The ending was a little random but it was a good opener.

Kazuki Hashimoto & Takuho Kato vs. Daichi Hashimoto & Kazumi Kikuta

Kikuta and Kazuki trade shots to start and Kikuta wins with the palm thrusts. Kato shoulders down Kikuta then Kikuta rakes Kazuki's eyes. Daichi top rope double axe handles Kazuki's arm and works on it. Kazuki fights back with a facewash then a chest kick for 2.

Daichi chest kicks him then Kaho comes in and shoulders over Kikuta. He corner lariats him then hits a fallaway slam for 2. Kikuta enzugiri's him and then he and Daichi hit running corner attacks for 2. Kikuta top rope double stomps Kaho another 2. Kaho comes back with chops and a lariat then takes a fisherman's suplex for 2. Kikuta buzzsaw kicks Kaho in the back for the shoulders for the win.

This wasn't particularly special but it was alright with no major problems.

Fluorescent Lighttubes Death Match - Isami Kodaka, Jaki Numazawa & Ryuji Ito vs. Hideyoshi Kamitani, Michio Kageyama & Takumi Tsukamoto

The fight starts as soon as intros are done. Michio enzugiri's Ito then Ito kicks tubes into his back. Isami then breaks tubes over Michio's head then stupidly breaks them over his own head. Isami stabs him with tubes then Jaki headbutts Michio.

Ito pokes Michio in the head with the chair a few times then chairs his back. Michio starts to fight back on Ito but gets punched down. Isami throws chairs at Michio from the apron then throws one directly in his face.

Kami comes in and shoulders everyone then slams everyone. He comes off the 2nd rope with an elbow onto tubes on Isami. Isami comes back with a dragon screw then Jaki comes inand shotgun dropkicks Kami.

Jaki bulldogs Takumi then gets a blue thunder on a couple tubes. Jaki then saoan drops him on the tube fragments. Michio and Ito trade forearms and Ito hits a nice punch on him. Ito misses a top rope moonsault on him then takes a quick 3v1.

Ito swings some tubes at Michio and misses, then gets them broken into his gut. Michio falcon arrows him on the tube remnants then Ito throws a chair at his head. Isami double knee drops tubes on Michio from the top for 2. Ito puts a chair on its side and slams Michio on it for 2. Ito top rope frogsplashes Michio for the win.

This wasn't bad. They kept it at a quick pace, Michio showed some fire in his comebacks and they didn't do too much stupid stuff. Jaki tried to head to the back before he even had his hand raised which was kind of funny. Michio and Ito stared down and yelled at each other after.

G-SHOCK Death Match - Masaya Takahashi vs. Akira Hyodo

We have chairs, a ladder and cement blocks. They trade forearms then Akira gets chaired in the gut and back. MT then bends over so Akira can chair him in the back. MT puts a concrete block on his back and breaks it, but it isn't really sold. Akira then breaks a block over MT's back.

MT slams Hyodo on chairs then Hyodo does it back. MT then slams him on a chairs and ladder pile four times. MT throws chairs at him and the two trade forearms. MT scrapes his head with a cement block then slams Akira's head off of a board with something sharp on it.

Akira then flatliners him into the sharp things on the board. They fight over a block then Akira tries to headbutt it into him but probably hurts himself more. He then puts the block on MT's stomach and sentons him. MT comes back with a dropkick and a flipping senton for 2.

Akira hits a flurry of forearms in the corner. Chairs are set up on the side of a ladder and Akira is iconoslammed onto them. He then spears him and gorilla press gutbusters him for 2. MT is slammed on blocks and Akira tries to senton him from the top but he moves and he lands on the blocks. Akira is back up though and hip throws him then is tripped face first into blocks.

MT throws a block at him then hits the block with another block. He then hip throws him and Akira rolls up MT out of nowhere a little after 10 minutes to win.

This was a horrible match with no selling whatsoever and constant your move, my move mentality. There were very few brain cells used in this one and probably many lost during it.

Yokohama Shopping Street Six Man Tag Team Title Match - Chicharito Shoki, Yasufumi Nakanoue & Yuji Okabayashi (c) vs. Ayame Sasamura, Kaji Tomato & Kota Sekifuda

Kaiji's team does a dance which is muted for copyright. I hate intergender stuff but I'm recording this and can't really skip it.

Shoki is small and is around the same height as Ayame. Kaiji's team gets asked to move their entrance gimmicks out of the ring and they argue with the other team. Ayame wants a test of strength with Yuji and quickly loses. Then she steps his hands and misses a stomp. Yuji then slaps her on the head for it. She steps on Yuji's foot and runs into him then falls over.

Shoki and Kota get in. Shoki hits a nice armdrag then gets dropkicked. Kota's team does a triple drop down then a triple dropkick. Kaji back elbows Shoki and running kicks him in the back. He then single leg crabs him. Shoki hits an enzugiri then a nice single leg dropkick and tags out.

Naka hits a big back body drop on Kaji and Kota then slams Ayame. Naka has Kaji's leg in a standing indian deathlock and gets knocked over, which adds more pressure to it.

Yuji gets in and hits a big chop on Kaji. Kota top rope dropkicks Yuji then Yuji double suplexes Kota and Kaji before splashing both. Yuji then double single leg crabs both. Ayame breaks it up then gets a hard slam.

Shoki gets in and kicks Kota in the back then PK's him for 2. Shoki enzugiri's him then buzzsaw kicks him for 2. Yuji wheelbarrows Shoki then slams him on Kota. shoki holds up Kota for a lariat but Shoki gets sandwich lariated instead. The opponents then 3v1 Shoki with corner moves then superkick/STO combo him. Kota hits some kind of a backcracker for 2.

Ayame goes up top and crossbodies her opponents outside. Kaji plancha's his opponents outside then Kota tries for a crossface but is rolled up for the surprise win by Shoki.

This was only around 10 minutes and was quick. I liked it. They played around the size differences well and made it believable, then there was the surprising ending on Shoki winning it.

Shoki calls out Kota after this and seems to want a title shot.

Lighttube Tower Death Match - Drew Parker vs. Yuki Ishikawa

They have a 3 story light tube tower wrapped in barbed wire in the corner, some tubes on the ropes, some chairs and some odd white substance on a board.

They trade forearm flurries to start and Drew gets stabbed with gusset plate on his forehead. He is then whipped into the tubes. Yuki chairs Parker on the outside and bridges a series of 3 chairs outside. Yuki gets tubes kicked into his stomach then Drew grabs a gusset plate and puts it in Yuki's head. Drew then throws darts at Yuki's back then pulls them out for extra damage.

Yuki stabs Drew in the arm and perhaps in the face. Yuki double stomps Drew's back and puts chairs on him. He then double stomps the chairs off the 2nd rope. Yuki grabs the tube tower and Drew cannonballs into him to make it explode. Drew high angle reverse ddt's Yuki off the apron onto the chair bridge outside.

They forearm each other and then do a cool punch flurry battle. Drew does a tiger feint off the ropes then 619's Yuki. He then one winged angel's him onto tubes and reverse curb stomps him. Yuki has tubes placed on him and Drew top rope sentons the tubes into him. Drew tries it again but Yuki moves and Yuki throws tubes at him. Yuki then throws like 5 tubes at him at once for 2.

Yuki reverse curb stomps him and northern lights bombs him for 2. Yuki hits a top rope senton. Tubes are put on the mat then Yuki does a top rope powerslam type of move on them and beats Drew. Yuki had his arm put in a tape sling after then they slap each other and hug.

This wasn't too bad for death match standards. They sold some and didn't overdo it too much while still doing some cool stuff.

BJW Death Match Heavyweight Title Super G-SHOCK Death Match - Yuko Miyamoto (c) vs. Kankuro Hoshino

We have a barrel, carpet strips, chairs, cement blocks and other fun items here.

KH is thrown into the strips then smacked with one on the back. Yuko tries to hit him with a baseball bat but nails the strips instead and there's a large bang. Hoshino goes up top and is pulled down with the bat. He blocks a bat shot then facebusters Yuko on the cement blocks.

Hoshino breaks a concrete block on Yuko's back then stabs him with a piece of it. Hoshino tries to chop carpet sticks into Yuko's back but just hurts his hand on it. Yuko gets banged off the barrel then Hoshino rams it into him.

Hoshino charges at him and Yuko rolls the barrel into him, knocking him over. Hoshino gets hit with the barrel lid and takes hits with carpet strips. Yuko breaks a cement block over Hoshino's back and he throws a weight plate at him. Hoshino moves then tries to strike him but Yuko blocks with the plate.

Hoshino STO's Yuko on the carpet strikes then clotheslines him. Hoshino drops some elbows. He then puts cement blocks on Yuko and sentons them on him, which hurt him as much as Yuko. Yuko overhead belly to belly's him then standing moonsault double knees him.

Yuko gets back body dropped onto the blocks then Hoshino gets back body dropped onto them. Hoshino tries a twisting swanton but just lands on the blocks in an ugly bump. Hoshino then tries to senton him but Yuko moves and he lands on the blocks. Hoshino rolls the barrel into Yuko and trips him then puts the barrel on Yuko's head.

Hoshino then dropkicks the barrel while its on Yuko's head. Yuko throws the barrel at Hoshino then moonsaults onto it while it is on Hoshino. Yuko hits Hoshino in the leg with the bat but he isn't phased then Yuko hits la magistral for 2. Hoshino STO's him then barely suplexes him onto the ring stairs for 2.

Yuko gets blocks put on him then Hoshino sentons onto them on him for 2. Yuko does a handspring into the ropes and moonsaults back on him. Yuko fire thunder drivers him onto the blocks then moonsaults him for the win. They talked on the mic after and Yuko used the barrel as a chair. I think Hyodo challenged for a title shot after.

They over did it some here but they really took hard looking bumps in this one. The selling really wasn't great and there wasn't much but weapons usage, but the stunts worked and it wasn't too bad.

Overall thoughts: I didn't think this one was too bad. I thought most of the matches were alright and the deathmatches were a little better than usual.
