WWF Prime Time Wrestling 9/14/1992

WWF Prime Time Wrestling 9/14/1992

We see clips of Ric Flair celebrating his WWF Title win with Heenan and Mr. Perfect. That match will air on this show.

Our hosts are Vince McMahon, Hillbilly Jim, Jim Duggan, Bobby Heenan and Mr. Perfect.

Heenan and Perfect are in a good mood. Jim yells at Heenan and Perfect, saying Macho Man was hurt and injured in the title loss. Heenan says Macho has guts and ability but not the belt. Jim says Heenan and Perfect had this planned the whole time. Jim says it's not over until it's over.

The Bushwhackers (Luke and Butch) and Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs The Nasty Boys (Saggs and Knobbs) and The Mountie

This is from Summerslam 1992. From what I read, it aired in England but didn't make the PPV for some reason.

The heels pound on the faces in the corners then they are thrown into each other. The BW's then march and pose. Knobbs pounds on Luke then takes a bunch of punches to the gut. Knobbs is sent into Saggs then Saggs goes into the buckles and falls on Knobbs. The Nasty's take triple clotheslines then all the heels go out to recoup.

Saggs short arm clotheslines Butch then hits forearms. The BW's get the edge on The Nasty's then Knobbs splashes his partners on accident in the corner. The BW's battering ram all 3 heels in the corner.

We go to break and return. Knobbs kneels on Luke's throat. Luke is dropped on the ropes throat first. Mountie stomps on Luke and sits on his back for a chinlock. Saggs then takes over with the chinlock. Luke is held for shots from The Nasty's in the corner. Luke is slammed by Saggs. Knobbs comes off the 2nd rope and Luke puts his boot up to intercept him.

Mountie and Jim get in. Jim hits punches then hits shots on all 3 heels. Jim double lariats The Nasty's. Jim bangs Mountie's head off the buckles then Mountie takes a battering ram. The BW's grab Jimmy Hart and Jim hits the three point stance lariat on Mountie. Saggs tries to top rope elbow drop Jim while he's on top of Mountie, but Jim moves. Jim then pins Mountie.

Thoughts:
I liked this. We had some fun triple team spots and the crowd was hot. The BW's and Duggan had their limits but they knew what they were doing. Everyone worked a little harder than usual here.

Vince then mentions the Summerslam 1992 VHS will be released soon but doesn't mention that the match we just saw won't be on it.

Jim said he had 80,000 English folks chanting "USA". Vince asks what would happen if The Ultimate Warrior faced Ric Flair and Perfect/Heenan have to think about it.

WWF Event Center

Crush says since coming to the WWF, something hasn't been right. He says his friends tell him this isn't him and says he needs to tell people who he is in a Hawaiian accent. He talks about being from Hawaii and talks in Hawaiian saying "shaka".

Heenan interrupts Sean Mooney, saying he doesn't do a good job in the Event Center. He says Jamison could do it and says Sean is related to Jamison.

We see clips from last week's Wrestling Challenge. Razor Ramon says the first time Macho comes face to face with him, he will give him a lesson in machismo.

We see a Macho Man interview with Mean Gene Okerlund. He limps to the podium. He said Summerslam vs Warrior was the toughest match of his career. He said they beat each other from pillar to post. He says The Warrior is as much apart of the WWF Title as he is. Macho says he will bring Flair and Perfect down for making him and Warrior doubt each other.

Razor Ramon comes in. He says he saw Macho at Summerslam and he didn't impress him. Razor says everyone knows that he (Razor) wears the gold. He says he will take Macho's gold. Razor says he oozes machismo while Macho needs lessons in it. Razor flicks his toothpick in Macho's face. Macho says he thinks he dropped his toothpick then he nails Razor. Razor goes off the stage then officials intervene.

Shawn Michaels vs Jim Powers

SM hits punches then running elbows him. Jim leapfrogs and clotheslines Shawn over the top to the floor. SM then checks himself in his mirror. They shove each other and Jim side headlocks him. SM goes for a reverse monkey flip and is stomped.

SM goes up and over then lariats him. SM hits a dropkick. SM flying knees him. Jim goes for the monkey flip then rolls him up for 2. SM chinlocks him. Jim hits elbows to the gut and is eye poked. SM bends over and gets kicked. Jim boots SM out of the corner then atomic drops him. Jim hits him in the gut and hits a kneelift. Jim dropkicks him.

Jim misses a corner charge and is superkicked. SM hits a backdrop and wins.

Thoughts:
I liked it. It was a solid match with Jim maybe getting more offense in than Shawn did. They kept it moving, Shawn bumped around a lot and made Jim look decent prior to winning.

Vince says we will see the WWF Title match and he shows us clips of Flair hitting Macho in the knee with a chair at Summerslam.

WWF Title - "Macho Man" Randy Savage (c) vs Ric Flair

Perfect pulls at Macho's leg to start. Macho is limping and Flair takes Macho down by the leg. Macho goes out and Perfect goes for Macho again while he's in the ring. Flair punches Macho in the head then boots the knee. Macho punches Flair down and escapes from Flair as Flair goes for the legs.

Macho boots Flair away during his figure four attempt. Flair chops and hits Macho in the knee. Flair snapmares him then stomps his knee. Macho gorilla press slams Flair and Macho sells the knee after it. Perfect swipes at Macho. Macho cobra twists Flair but Flair hits the knee to get out.

Macho lariats Flair out of the corner and both go down. Flair suplexes Macho then elbow drops him for 2. Flair stomps on Macho. They trade in the corner. Perfect trips Macho and Macho boots him away. Flair backdrops Macho.

Flair takes him down by the leg and single leg crabs him. Macho ropebreaks. Flair slams Macho then knee drops him. Flair leglocks Macho and Macho ropebreaks. Macho cradles him for 2 and Perfect pulls at Macho's leg again. Flair sends Macho over the top and we go to break.

We return and Macho rolls in. Macho hits punches on Flair then back body drops him. Macho lariats him then lariats him over the top to the floor. Flair is sent into the rails then suplexed on the floor. Macho punches Flair outside. Flair eye pokes him. Flair is back body dropped on the floor. Flair's head is banged off the rails. Macho top rope double axe handles Flair but his knee hurts too much to make the pin.

Razor Ramon comes out. Perfect trips Macho then Flair dropkicks Macho from behind. Macho goes out of the ring to the floor. Razor kicks Macho in the back of the leg.

Flair figure fours Macho in the ring. Flair has the hold on for a while. Macho passes out and the ref counts his shoulders down for the 3 count. Flair gets the win.

Thoughts:
You really couldn't do what they were trying to do much better. Macho sold the whole time and did a good job with it. Flair and Perfect were total jerks, constantly cheating and going after the knee and Razor also chipped in to get some heat. It told a fabulous story. The only downfall was that it was a one sided match for the most part and Macho really couldn't get a ton of offense in because of the story. Perfect did a fantastic job as the heel manager here, constantly trying to trip up Macho. It was a great match and with a title change also happening here, it's a must see for 1992.

Heenan and Perfect toast drinks as we return to the roundtable. Hillbilly and Duggan are mad about Razor being out there and say you have to give Macho credit. Perfect just smiles as Vince says he was swiping around there like a dog.

We go back to the match. Macho is down and trying to leave but Razor Ramon comes back out. Razor bangs Macho's leg off the apron and the post. Razor slaps Macho around the hits punches. Refs come down to try and break it up. Macho eventually slides out and The Ultimate Warrior comes out in street clothes to carry him to the back.

The panel then talk. Duggan says when you fight like Warrior and Macho did, it forms a bond. Perfect says him, Heenan and Flair have a strong bond. Duggan then compares them to The Three Stooges.

Bret Hart is wearing weird sunglasses and is satellite interviewed. Vince says Papa Shango is hot on Bret's trails. Bret says he doesn't believe in The Boogeyman and says he lost in Wembley to a better man. He says Shango had nothing to do with it. Perfect questions Bret, bringing up the curse Shango put on Bret. Bret says Shango uses fear as a weapon. Perfect says Shango has his number. Heenan asks how things are with Davey and Bret's families. Bret says everything is back to normal and Heenan says that means they stiff you for gifts at Christmas this year.

Bret says he will prove that Shango is a big boogeyman. He says he will execute him and dares Shango to curse him.

Nailz vs Sgt. Slaughter

It got cut off, but Vince said something about Sarge taking an absence and I wonder if this plays into it.

Nailz hits Sarge while he's on the apron and Sarge goes down to the floor. Nailz hits Sarge with his night stick outside. Sarge is dropped throat first on the rail. Nailz chairs Sarge then hits him with the night stick.

Nailz chokes Sarge with the night stick. Sarge's head is banged off the apron then Nailz chairs Sarge in the gut. Nailz foot chokes Sarge. Refs come to break it up as Nailz continues to choke him with the night stick. Nailz then chairs him.

The stretcher is brought out for Sarge and Sarge is put on it and wheeled out.

Thoughts:
This was all angle here with the match never getting started and Sarge being taken out from the start.

WWF Event Center

Money Inc and Jimmy Hart do a promo. IRS says he can't stand a thief and says that's what The Natural Disasters are for taking their tag titles. Ted says The ND's stole their money and said the money in the WWF is being champ. Ted says they won't stand for it. He says he will buy them a one way ticket out of here.

Heenan and Perfect interrupt Sean. Heenan says when you talk about money and gold, you can only talk Ric Flair. Heenan says Jamison could do the Event Center.

The video is cut off. Heenan hands Vince pencils and tells Vince to give Macho these so he can sell them on the corner. We hear something breaking and Jamison walks in. Jamison has some kind of food that looks nasty.

The Undertaker vs Kato

Kato hits Taker from behind then takes uppercuts for it. Taker catches Kato off the buckles and chokes him. Kato boots him and lariats him. Taker no sells it. Kato tries lariats and then eye rakes him.

Taker blocks Kato's hiptoss then chokeslams him. Taker chokes him. Taker tombstones Kato and gets the pin.

Thoughts:
It was all squash here with Kato getting some offense in but Taker no sold all of it.

We return to the studio. Jamison is eating and the show ends.

Overall thoughts: The opener was a fun match and was a rare Summerslam dark match. Shawn vs Powers was good. Macho vs Flair was great and a must see match for 1992, but a bit one-sided. Nailz/Sarge was all angle and Taker/Kato was a squash. I believe there was a Big Boss Man match that got cut off of this one also. The co-host panel were very entertaining as well. I'd give this an 8 out of 10 and it was definitely a can't miss edition of Prime Time.

WWF Prime Time Wrestling 8/23/1992 Summerslam Spectacular 1992

WWF Prime Time Wrestling 8/23/1992 Summerslam Spectacular 1992

The Macho Man Randy Savage does a promo to start the show. He says at Wembley, he will defend the title vs The Ultimate Warrior. He says The Warrior beat the best but he's not macho or the champ. He says he will get beat by him 1-2-3.

The Ultimate Warrior does a promo. He says the one who carries the gold only walks as champ until another one who believes and takes that right away. Warrior says he was once champ and will become champ again. He says he will leave Macho with his madness but will leave with the gold.

Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan are our hosts. Bobby is dressed like Sherlock Holmes. He says if Sherlock can solve all the cases dressed like this, so can he. He is looking for clues on who Perfect is managing at Summerslam.

Ric Flair vs El Matador

Ric side headlock takeovers him and is put in a headscissors. They stand off and Ric claims Tito pulled the hair. Ric side headlock takeovers him. Tito puts him in a headscissors. Ric trips him then Tito turns it into a hammerlock. They go into the corner and Ric shoves him.

Tito shoves back and slaps him. Tito hits a back body drop then he hits lariats. Tito lariats him over the top to the floor. Tito lariats him outside and Ric begs off inside. Ric then goes out.

Ric chops him down in the corner. Ric throws him over the top to the floor. Perfect kicks Tito in the gut outside. Ric knee drops Tito's head. They trade chops and Ric back elbows him. Tito trips Ric then figure fours him.

Flair backs off in the corner and Tito pulls him off the ropes. Tito figure fours him. Ric hits a shot and gets dropped after rope breaking. Ric knees him in the gut. They collide and both go down.

We go to break and return. Tito cradles Ric on a figure four attempt. Ric then punches Tito out again. Ric goes up top and is thrown down. Tito hits lariats and hits his flying forearm to the back of the head. Perfect pulls Tito off on the pin attempt. Tito grabs Perfect. Flair backrolls Tito and Tito reverses it for 2.

Tito rolls up Rick for 2. Tito hits mounted corner punches. Ric eye pokes him then Flair flops. Tito sends Ric into the corner upside down. Ric ends up on the apron and is lariated.

Tito suplexes him in for 2. Tito crossbodies him for 2. Perfect trips up Tito. Perfect grabs a chair outside and hits Tito in the knee with them. Ric figure fours him and Tito submits.

Thoughts:
It was a good match as expected with Tito doing nice comebacks and Flair cheating multiple times while bumping nicely for Tito. It went on a little longer than it needed to but I did like this one. Tito lost as expected here as we were only a week away from Summerslam.

Summerslam Report

Mean Gene talks Macho/Warrior then the tag title match. The Beverly Brothers and The Genius do a promo. Genius says the titles will be theirs in one week. Blake says successful people never lose. Beau says you have to draw the line between winners and losers eventually and they are always winners. They say they will be tag champs in one week.

The Natural Disasters do a promo. Typhoon says time is running out and it's 7 days until their destiny. Quake says this is their chance at glory and the WWF Tag Titles. He says to be at your best.

Kato vs Tatanka

They lock up and Kato armdrags him. Kato hiptosses him and does a karate pose. Kato side headlocks him then shoulders him over. Tat leapfrogs him then hits a hiptoss and slam. Tat lariats him over the top.

Kato spears him in the gut then punches him in the gut. Tat armdrags Kato then armlocks him. Tat shoulders him over. Tat slams and armdrags him. Tat then armlocks him. Kato chops him. Kato goes up and over then Tat atomic drops him. Tat hits lariats then Kato throws him over the top.

Fuji hits Tatanka with his cane outside. Kato slams Tat then stomps his gut. Tat is is kicked in the gut then Kato elbow drops him for 2. Kato chinlocks him.

Tat elbows him in the gut. Kato drops down then blocks a sunset flip with a chop. Kato poses on him and is rolled up for 2. Kato lariats him. They double clothesline each other. Tat hits chops and drops him. Tat hits a chop off the buckles then samoan drops him. Tat then picks up the win.

Thoughts
: Like the first match, it was decent but went on too long. The work was fine but you could have cut a third off of this and you would not have missed much.

Mr. Fuji tries to attack Tatanka after and is chopped down.

Mean Gene interviews The Nasty Boys and Jimmy Hart. Hart says this is a coup for them. He says Macho and Warrior don't care about each other. Saggs says Macho and Warrior gotta face the greatest and nastiest tag team today. Saggs says they will get nastysized. Knobbs says they will beat each other up at Summerslam but they get to beat on them tonight.

Mr. Perfect comes in. He says nobody knows Warrior or Macho like he does. Perfect says he will give them a few secrets about them.

Nailz vs Ken Wayne

Nailz chokes him in 2 corners. Nailz whips him into the corner and Ken goes over the top. Ken's head is banged off the apron. Nailz throws him on a slam then kicks him in the ribs. Nailz chokes him. Ken is thrown out but his neck is caught between the ropes. Nailz then shakes the ropes.

Nailz chokes Ken more then lariats him. Nailz sleepers him and the ref ends it.

Thoughts
: It was the usual boring Nailz match with him doing nothing but choking.

Nailz throws the ref out and hits Ken with the night stick. He chokes him with it and bats the refs away with his stick.

Mean Gene Okerlund interviews Paul Bearer and The Undertaker on the stage. Paul says they have arrangements for Kamala's funeral but question if they should put the mask on his face or the spear in his hand when they bury him. Paul asks if they have to build 3 holes or one large hole. Taker says the only dilemma they face now is what to do with the remains of Kamala. Taker says the results of Summerslam are inevitable and Kamala will be destroyed by the tombstone. Taker says he will thrust Kamala's, Harvey's and Kim Chee's souls into eternal darkness.

We see clips of the Macho/Flair/Perfect/Warrior situation from the last few weeks.

The Ultimate Warrior and "Macho Man" Randy Savage vs The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs and Jerry Saggs)

Warrior's got a skin colored tank top singlet on with some airbrushed abs and his logo. With the low quality of this footage, it looks like he's nude. Macho and Warrior argue and Macho says it's alright with him if they fight right now. They keep arguing and the ref has Warrior start.

Saggs nails Warrior from behind several times. Warrior ducks a lariat and hits a flying shoulderblock. Warrior hits running clotheslines on both Nasty's. Knobbs hits Warrior from behind. The Nasty's both bend over and take a double ddt.

Warrior then does a weird tag to Macho. The faces argue. Macho goes after Saggs and is hit from behind by Knobbs. Knobbs hits forearms on Macho. Macho back elbows Knobbs and hits punches. Macho running elbow drops Knobbs then slams Saggs. Knobbs is slammed as well and Macho top rope double axe handles Knobbs into Saggs.

Saggs is whipped into Knobbs. Macho top rope double axe handles Saggs. Macho tags Warrior in and they argue. Warrior top rope double axe handles Saggs and yells at Macho. Knobbs nails Warrior from behind and he ends up knocking Macho off the apron. Macho then hits Warrior from behind and they argue again. They push each other. Knobbs lariats warrior from behind and sends him over the top. Warrior's head is banged off the steps.

Warrior takes a double back elbow. Saggs side slams Warrior for 2. Warrior hits shots on Knobbs then is eye raked. Warrior's head is banged off the buckles. Warrior knees him out of the corner. Saggs snapmares Warrior then legdrops him for 2. Warrior flying double clotheslines The Nasty's then does a regular double clothesline. Warrior hits a double facebuster on them then double clotheslines them both over the top. We go to break and return.

Macho throws Knobbs in and bangs his head off the buckles. Macho hits shots to the gut and Knobbs is sent into the ref on accident. Saggs hits Macho with Hart's helmet. Warrior grabs Hart outside then Perfect and Flair attacks Warrior. Ric eye rakes Warrior many times then holds him for a Perfect chair shot to the gut. Saggs chairs Macho in the head.

Warrior takes punches and chops from Ric and Perfect. Knobbs chairs Macho in the back. Flair and Perfect go to leave and Warrior follows them up the aisle. They then go to the back. Macho is then counted out and The Nasty's win.

Thoughts: The Nasty's won so all is well and forgiven but Warrior really handled them despite going against both of them most of the match and his own partner. I was not impressed with Warrior's selling either as Flair and Perfect abused him pretty good but he was still getting up. This was what it should be and I guess that means any Perfect partnership with Macho or Warrior is off.

Macho comes in after and nails Hart. He then hits The Nasty's with Hart's helmet.

Mean Gene Okerlund tries to interview The Ultimate Warrior. He's banging on a door and growling. He said Macho did all the explaining by bringing Flair and Perfect to ringside. He said he paid the price and wrote the check and said Perfect will be in the corner with Macho. Warrior says Macho both nothing and lost all The Macho Maniacs. He said Macho bought the rage and fury of The Warrior by signing that check.

Rick "The Model" Martel vs Joey Maggs

Rick side headlocks him and has some serious body oil on. Joey hammerlocks him and is tripped. Rick hits him in the gut. Rick then cartwheels off the ropes.

Rick takes him down and does jumping jacks. Joey gets a hiptoss and armdrag in as Sensational Sherri comes down. Rick sees her and nods at her. He then poses for her and she smiles. Joey then backrolls him for 2.

Rick lariats Joey and Sherri leaves. Rick chokes Joey then slams him. Rick hits a backbreaker then a boston crab. Joey submits.

Thoughts: It was a decent squash with Joey getting in a decent bit in plus Sherri getting involved to throw shade at the Martel/Michaels Summerslam match.

Mean Gene interviews Macho Man in the back. Macho says he has accusations for Warrior and says Warrior has Perfect locked in for Summerslam. Gene is shocked by this. Gene asks how can you explain Warrior being attacked by Flair and Perfect? Macho says it doesn't make sense but makes dollars and cents. Macho says Warrior had a good plan but he and his Maniacs aren't buying it. Macho says Warrior isn't much of a man at all. He says if you wanna hang with the big boys but can't make the grade you take shortcuts. He says he's going into Summerslam as champ and leaving champ.

Vince and Bobby wonder who is telling the truth.

Kamala vs Burt Stiles

Kam shoulders him over and shoves him into the corner. Kam hits chops and chops him from behind. Kam stomps him and Burt goes out. Burt runs into a Kam facekick then Kam chops him. Kam drops him throat first on the ropes then double throat thrusts him. Kam splashes him and can't figure out how to pin him but eventually does and wins.

Thoughts: It was your usual Kamala squash with his opponent getting nothing in before going down.

Kamala goes up top and Kim/Harvey stop him.

Money Inc. (Ted Dibiase and IRS) vs The Buswhackers (Luke and Butch)

Ted Dibiase gets on the mic beforehand. He said he never stole anything in his life as he always had enough money. IRS says the only thing worse than being a thief is a tax cheat so pay up.

The heels attack from behind to start. IRS drops Butch with punches. Money Inc is thrown into each other and gets their butts bitten. Their heads are banged together and The BW's hit running shots.

IRS drops Butch with a euro. IRS misses a corner charge and takes a Butch bulldog. Ted elbow drops IRS on accident then the heels have their heads banged together. The BW's hit double clotheslines and march in the ring.

Luke gets distracted and is nailed by Ted from behind. IRS chokes Luke with something outside then sends him into the post. Ted punches Luke. IRS punches Luke off the buckles. Ted boots Luke in the gut then back elbows him for 2. Ted chinlocks Luke.

IRS legdrops Luke in the nuts for 2. IRS chinlocks him. Luke running clotheslines Ted. Butch gets in and running lariats the heels. IRS takes a battering ram for 2. Butch fist drops IRS. Jimmy Hart gets in the ring. Butch grabs him then is hit from behind by IRS. IRS then pins him.

Thoughts:
There was a lot of shenanigans here but it was fine with The BW's getting some offense in before beating cheated out of the win near the end. Money Inc won as expected since The BW's can pretty much always lose and still be over.

WWF Event Center

The Repo Man says Crush will be nervous at Wembley and he's excited as he usually does his work at night but gets to do it in front of 80,000 people. He says he will repossess Crush's career.

The Legion of Doom, Rocco and Paul Ellering do a promo. Hawk says money can't buy love but it can pay your hospital bills and buy you a casket. He says they don't like them. Animal says Money Inc have to be nervous and says it'll be a rush when they take the doomsday device.

Bret "The Hitman" Hart vs Skinner

Bret side headlock takeovers him and Skin headscissors him. Bret side headlocks him. Bret is behind him but gets sent out. Skin grabs his alligator claw and hits Bret in the back with it. Skin hits a running shot with it. Skin chinlocks Bret and chokes him with a weapon.

Skin eye rakes Bret then foot chokes him. Skin abdominal stretches him. Bret is sent out and Skin dances in a funny moment. Skin kneels on the back of his neck. Bret sunset flips him. Skin shoulderbreakers him.

Skin comes off the top and is hit in the gut. Bret punches him then hits him in the gut. Bret russian legsweeps him for 2. Bret hits punches in the corner. Skin boots him out of the corner.

Skin tries to leg drop him in the crotch but Bret blocks it and turns it into a sharpshooter. Bret then submits him.

Thoughts: I liked the finish and popped for Skinner dancing. It wasn't one of Bret's best outings and Skin pretty much stuck to the basics here and Bret did a lot of selling.

Vince and Heenan close the show. Bobby checks him out with his magnifying glass. Bobby said he knew the answer to whose corner Perfect will be in this whole time.

Mean Gene the interviews Mr. Perfect and Ric Flair. Gene says Macho and Warrior are ready to tear each others faces off. Perfect says it's time to say whose corner he will be in. Perfect and Flair then say "woo" and don't tell us.

Overall thoughts: I always find these shows to be a bit long and hard to get through and this was no exception. Ric/Tito was good as expected and easily the best match on this. Kato/Tanaka was fine. Nailz had his usual boring match. The Warrior/Macho tag did what it was supposed to. Martel had a decent squash with Maggs and Kamala did his usual squash. Bret and Skinner then had an average match. We also didn't get any info on who Perfect would manage at Summerslam which wasn't a surprise. Oddly, The British Bulldog wasn't involved much on this show despite being in the main at Summerslam. The show was okay overall but nothing you'd really need to see. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 as the in-ring work was a decent and they did make you want to know what would happen with Macho and The Warrior.

WWF Prime Time Wrestling 3/29/1992 March To Wrestlemania VIII

WWF Prime Time Wrestling 3/29/1992 March To Wrestlemania VIII

We see clips of Hulk beating The Iron Sheik for the WWF Title.

Vince McMahon is a tuxedo in a black suit with Hulk Hogan photos. He says we are on the eve of what could be Hulk's final match and then we see Hulk vs Andre at Wrestlemania III. I reviewed this here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2014/01/wwf-wrestlemania-3-review.html

We get some lines from some fans about Hulk maybe retiring.

We see clips of Hulk posing with Sid at Summerslam 1991 and then see Sid eliminating Hulk at Royal Rumble 1992. We then see the Wrestlemania VIII press conference where Hulk is given the title shot at Wrestlemania VIII against Flair and where Sid flips out. We see Sid's phony apology prior to Saturday Night's Main Event then we see clips of Hulk/Sid vs Taker/Flair where Sid officially turned on Hulk.

We then see clips of Sid destroying The Barber Shop and Virgil.

We then see:

MSG 2/23/1992 - Sid Justice vs Hercules

Sid says he will turn his back and tells Herc to leave and take the easy way out. Herc hits punches on Sid and they go out. Sid boots Herc as he tries to get in and clubs on him. Sid knees Herc in the gut then Sid hits a big powerbomb. Sid then gets the pin.

Thoughts:
This was just a quick squash here but at least there was a point to this.

Shawn Michaels vs "Rowdy" Roddy Piper

Piper is the current Intercontinental champ. Sherri looks under Piper's kilt and laughs. Shawn and Piper shove each other before it starts.

They lock up and roll on the ropes. Piper spits on Shawn. They shove each other and then slap each other. Shawn crossbodies him but Piper rolls it into a pin attempt. Shawn rolls up Piper off a backdrop for 2. Piper catapults Shawn into the buckles for 2.

Sherri gets on the apron. Piper grabs her and kisses her. We then go to break and return. Shawn lariats Piper over the top. Piper's head is banged off the steps. Shawn double axe handles Piper off the apron. Shawn pounds on Piper and bangs his head off the buckles.

Shawn hits punches. Shawn hits boots on Piper's gut then Shawn drops him with a punch for 2. Shawn chinlocks him.  Piper hits shots then Shawn superkicks him. Piper hits Shawn in the face then trades punches with him. Shawn eye pokes him.

Shawn goes into the corner, ends up laying on the top buckle and takes a kicks to the gut. Shawn then ends up getting crotched on the top rope. Piper shakes the ropes up and down and knocks Shawn off of them. Piper kneelifts Shawn. Shawn then pushes Piper into the ref. Shawn lariats Piper.

Sherri gives Shawn her boot and Shawn nails Piper with it. Bret Hart comes down. He throws Piper Sherri's boot. Piper swings and misses, the ref sees it and DQ's Piper. Piper then nails Shawn with the boot and knocks him over the top.

Thoughts: It was a pretty good match here. Piper showed a lot of fire in his brawling and the win definitely helped out Shawn at this point in time.

Piper yells at Bret after and says he got him DQ'd. Piper tells him to stay out of his life and tells him to do something about it if he doesn't like it.

We see clips of Flair showing off the photos of Flair and Liz.

Ric Flair vs Jim Brunzell

Ric is the WWF champ. We haven't seen Jim for a while. Jim has some nice tye dye gear on.

Jim backs Flair up in the corner and Flair woo's at him. Flair shoulders him over then is hiptossed. Jim slams him and headlock takeovers him.

Flair chops Jim. Flair then punches and stomps him. Flair backdrops him then knee drops him. Flair atomic drops Jim then hits chops in the corner. Jim hits some punches and he back body drops Flair. Jim hits a very high dropkick for 2.

Jim sleepers Ric but is kneebreakered. Flair then figure fours Jim and submits him.

Thoughts: It was short but Jim got some offense in and it wasn't a total squash. Flair got the win here as expected. Jim looked good and I was fine with this one.

Vince McMahon interviews Miss Elizabeth at her home. They have a nice house. Liz says she couldn't speak to them two weeks ago when they were here. Liz says she's angry that the WWF Magazine published "untrue" photos. Liz says she has proof and says Macho Man is sending the negatives to the publisher. She says she can't believe someone like Flair would be taken at face value.

Liz says the photos will show that Randy is next to her in the photos, not Flair. Liz says those are personal photos and she's mad that the magazine published them. Liz says she feels terrible about what happened and says everyone looks at them differently now.

Liz says she feels vulnerable. She says they will be vindicated when the magazine publishes the true photographs and gets to see what the true story is. She says she will always worry someone believes those photos are legit.

Thoughts: This segment almost feels like it was from a different world by 2025 standards where stars are appearing in adult videos and getting naked online.

Vince McMahon says it's a Mania of firsts with Flair facing Macho for the first time and Sid facing Hulk for the first time. He then says we will see the first and only encounter of Hulk Hogan vs The Ultimate Warrior. I reviewed that here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2012/11/wwf-wrestlemania-vi-review.html

Thoughts: The timing on this one was interesting as Hulk lost and it had The Ultimate Warrior, who hadn't been mentioned or seen since Summerslam 1991 due to being fired.

Vince says Hulk proved he was gracious in defeat at WM6. He asks if Hulk's power is strong enough to beat Sid.

Sid Justice and Harvey Wippleman do a promo. Sid says Hulk was the greatest wrestler that ever was in his day. He says he feels sorry for Hulk as Hulk is facing a fuel injected suicide machine. He says Hulk has fear for him.

We see clips of the Jake/Undertaker feud.

Jake "The Snake" Roberts vs Jim Powers

Jim armdrags Jake and backs him up by teasing a punch. Jake laughs then Jim side headlocks him. Jake backdrops Jim. Jake throws Jim out. Jake punches Jim down.

Jim hits more punches then Jake short arm clotheslines him. Jake then hits a ddt to win.

Thoughts: It was a short one and it was even. It was a squash though and Jake won as expected.

Heenan says he hopes Jake ddt's Mike McGuirk on an escalator after.

The Natural Disasters (Earthquake and Typhoon) vs Kato and Barry Horowitz

Ty misses a corner shot then Kato eye rakes him and boots him in the gut. Ty blocks Kato's hiptoss then blocks a double hiptoss. Ty then double clotheslines his opponents. Quake hits Kato in the gut. Quake fails to catch Kato when he's supposed to off the 2nd rope but powerslams him anyway. Quake then elbow drops Kato.

Quake boots Barry then backdrops him. Quake hits a running butt drop and gets the pin.

Thoughts: It was all squash as expected here. Kato got a couple shots in but nothing of any substance.  It's still kind of weird to accept The Disasters as faces after being heels for so long.

Vince McMahon interviews Hulk Hogan, who is wearing a black oversized shirt and a red bandana. Hulk says the whole WWF is under pressure with Sid running around says the four demandments could cease to exist if Sid has his way with him. He says he could be on the edge of greatness or disaster.

Hulk says Sid better be all that he says he is when he faces him. Hulk says testing Hulkamania is a test of time. He says Sid will have to beat everyone who believes in positive thoughts and deeds and doesn't think Sid can do it.

Vince asks Sid what Hulkamania means to him. Hulk says it's a standard you have to fight to keep up. He says he becomes better each day by realizing the four demandments. He says the goal is set so high that anything less than 100% dedication is a failure. He says Sid puts everything in jeopardy and it makes him think that Sid doesn't know what he's getting in the ring with. He says Sid is another guy with a big mouth and body who is taking a shortcut to the top. He says when you take a shortcut in the WWF, you run into Hulk.

Vince asks if Mania is Hulk's last match. Hulk says it makes him sweat. Hulk says everyone is asking him about that and Sid Justice. Hulk says he's the only one that can make the decision on whether this is his last match or not. He says he won't know until he comes out of the ring at Wrestlemania VIII. Vince then thanks Hulk for the memories, inspiration and for Hulkamania.

Overall thoughts: It was a very easy episode to get through if you have been watching the shows up to this. There were a lot of recaps and probably 40 minutes spent here on showing classic Hulk matches. The wrestling was a step above the usual Superstars offerings atleast. I liked Shawn/Piper and Flair/Brunzell was okay for what it was. We also got a new Hulk interview here with him at least acknowledging that Mania could be his last match for the first time. We also heard Liz say the photos with Flair were fake. This show could be skipped though because not much new was learned and the matches weren't good enough to be must see. The Hulk interview wasn't that great either. This special was also totally different from prior Prime Time go home shows as they did not put up a special card for this and showed lots of old footage. I wouldn't recommend this one and would just give it a 5 out of 10.

WWF Survivor Series Showdown 1991 11/24/1991

WWF Survivor Series Showdown 1991 11/24/1991

Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan are our hosts. Heenan says we will hear from Mr. Perfect and Ric Flair later in the show. Vince talks about "Macho Man" Randy Savage being bitten by Jake Roberts' snake earlier in the week. Heenan says there's more important matters and Vince disagrees.

Earthquake vs The Big Boss Man

Boss runs in and gets stomped on. Quake clubs on him and elbows him in the back. Quake bearhugs him and drives him into the corner. Quake elbow drops the back then misses an elbow drop. Boss hits shows on Quake then hits a big boot. Quake is rocked and Boss just shoves him over.

Boss slides out and goes after Jimmy Hart. He chases him around the ring then punches Quake in the butt. Boss eye pokes Quake and Vince actually agrees with Heenan than this isn't good wrestling from Quake.

Quake clubs Boss' back. Quake hits corner shoulderblock. they trade shots. Boss punches Quake and ties him up in the ropes. Boss slaps Quake multiple times. IRS then comes down and Boss has words with him. We go to break and return.

Quake is untied from the ropes and knocks Boss onto the apron. Quake stands on Boss' hand. Quake wristlocks Boss. Boss is thrown out. IRS goes for a shot on Boss and gets hit. Boss hits corner punches on Quake. We get phone numbers to vote on whether Savage should be reinstated or not.

Boss and Quake headbutt each other in the chest. Quake elbows Boss in the arm. Boss charges at Quake and is thrown over the top. Quake splashes Boss' arm. Quake wraps Boss' arm around the top rope. Boss hits back elbows. Quake headbutts the arm.

Boss hits a step up enzugiri for 2. Boss gets distracted and eventually tripped by IRS. Boss and IRS trade shots outside. The ref doesn't DQ Quake. Boss headbutts Quake then lariats him. Typhoon and Jake Roberts come down. Boss grabs hits night stick. The Legion of Doom come down and the heels back off.

Thoughts: I wasn't a big fan of it. Quake worked the back then forgot about it and worked the arm. Boss was a bad face during the first part of this going after Jimmy Hart for no real reason and used a lot of eye pokes and such on Quake which was unnecessary. Then IRS interfered in front of the ref and the ref did nothing about it. These two also just didn't work that great together.

We see clips of last week's Superstars of Wrestling with Hulk Hogan at The Funeral Parlor. Ric Flair comes down. Ric asks if he knows how long he's been waiting for this moment. Ric asks if he knows how long he's been hearing about his 24 inch pythons. Ric says he just burst the bubble Hulk has been living in and is here with the real world championship belt (which is blurred out). Flair asks what Hulk will do when he runs wild on him. Hulk rips his own shirt off. Hulk tells if he puts his title against his, he will find out. The Undertaker then appears from behind and nails Hulk with an urn. Ric gets cheap shots in and holds up both titles as Taker chokes Flair. Roddy Piper then comes down and chairs Ric. Macho joins him and chairs Taker. Taker no sells the shot. Taker then stares at Piper and Macho and rips off Hulk's necklace. Macho and Piper help walk Hulk out after.

Thoughts:
This was a really good angle with all the stars. I liked Flair taking the titles and posing with them and this furthered the Taker/Hulk feud and the Piper/Flair feud.

Bushwhacker Luke vs Blake Beverly

Blake has The Genius with him. Luke does his thing to the crowd and Blake nails him from behind. Blake hits knees to the gut. Luke then bites him in the butt. Blake tags a big bump for a lariat and goes out. Blake talks to The Genius outside and Luke bangs their heads together. Heenan complains and I'm on his side.

Luke argues with Genius. Blake tries to get him from behind but Luke stops him. Blake goes out to stall again. Genius trips Luke and Luke goes after him outside. Luke chases him to the back. We go to break and return. Luke comes out with Genius' hat.

Black misses a corner charge and Luke hits shots on him. Luke is thrown hard into the buckles and goes down. Blake backbreakers Luke. Blake running lariats Luke. Blake misses a headbutt off the buckles and is rolled up for the pin.

Thoughts: I didn't like this much. Luke went after Genius for no reason. Luke then chased him all the way to the back and somehow didn't even get counted out. And it was a Bushwhackers match so you weren't getting a ton quality wise to begin with.

Mean Gene is on the stage and pushes for Macho to be reinstated. The Big Boss Man and The LOD come out. Boss says we are looking at 3 men who believe in law, order and justice. Boss says they are fighting for people who believe in that. Boss says they can kick their opponents butts even if it ends up being 3v4. Animal tells Jack Tunney to let Macho be their partner after Jake got Macho bitten by the snake.  Hawk says there's an easy way out of everything. He says for his opponents, it's "S-H-C". Hawk says that's spontaneous human combustion.

We see footage from Superstars. Jake pins a jobber with a ddt. Jake grabs the mic. He calls out Macho Man on commentary. Jake says he almost looked up to him at one time. He says Macho used to be a real man but grew soft. He says Macho should borrow Piper's skirt. Macho gets up and heads to the ring as Jake talks trash. Jake says Macho has fear for him and says he's a coward.

Macho gets on the apron, the ref tries to stop him and Jake lariats him. Jake pulls Macho into the post. Jake ties up Macho in the ropes then drops knees on him. Jake grabs the king cobra ans has the snake bite Macho's arm. Macho screams as Jake slaps him.

Officials and EMT's come down. Miss Elizabeth and Piper then come down. Jake swings the snake at them. Macho gets untied from the ropes and Jake stomps Macho. Vince says something has gone wrong. Macho swings at Jake and falls over. Vince says he doesn't think the snake is de-venomized. Macho keeps falling all around and is swinging wildly at Jake. Piper then physically gets in the ring and throws Macho out onto the stretcher. Macho then falls off the stretcher as the snake stares down Macho. Macho is then wheeled to the back. Jake stares at the snake and laughs.

Thoughts: This was one of the most memorable angles ever and was absolutely wild. This is one of those angles that was so good that I wish I could forget I saw it years ago and be able to rewatch it for the first time again. It was so dastardly and totally fit in with both wrestlers characters. Jake is such a diabolic heel and Macho was great here. I'm shocked this one even got aired. You have to go see it if you haven't before.

Mean Gene interviews IRS and The Natural Disasters on the stage. Gene says he's confident Jack Tunney will reinstate Macho due to it. Jake Roberts then comes out. Jake makes Gene say please to keep the snake in the bag. Jake says Tunney won't re-instate Macho as he doesn't want to be the one to pull the trigger on the gun against Macho's head. He says he doesn't think Macho wants to get in the ring against him after what happened. Jake says Macho is a liar and doesn't really want him. Jake says Liz wears the pants around his house.

Jake says it's not his fault what happens if Macho shows up at Survivor Series. He says it's a miracle Macho is still alive and says not everyone has 9 lives like Macho. IRS says he reviewed the contract and it will be 4v3 at Survivor Series. He says Boss can't do anything about it.

Jake calls The LOD the "Legion of Dummies". Typhoon says The LOD are big men in their own neighborhood but says The ND's are their neighborhood. Quake says Macho doesn't want any of Jake. Gene says Macho will be at Survivor Series whether it's as a viewer or a wrestler. Jake says Macho won't be home for Christmas if he does show up.

Thoughts: This was a good interview. Soap opera's always have a lawyer around for storylines around laws and contracts and IRS kind of took up the role here and it worked. Jake was so evil here.

Vince and Heenan talk. Heenan isn't worried about the snake incident and calls Virgil a thief for taking Dibiase's title. Vince then yells "snake, snake" and Heenan gets scared after saying he wasn't bothered by it.

Million Dollar Title - Virgil (c) vs "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase

Ted hedlock takeovers Virg then hiptosses him. Ted hammerlocks him and trips him. Virg hits 2 hiptosses and rolls up Ted for 2. Ted misses a lariat and Virg cradles him for 3. The ref clearly counts 3 and even goes for 4 but the ref says Ted kicked out.

They trade armlocks. Virg headlocks him on the mat. Ted back elbows him and throws him out. Sensational Sherri kicks and scratches Virg outside. Ted boots Virg outside as we go to break.

We return and Ted is still in control with punches. Ted stomps on Virg. Ted suplexes him for 2. Ted sleepers him. but Virg escapes. Ted knees Virg in the gut. Ted stomps Virg then fist drops him.

Ted slams him then misses a 2nd rope elbow drop. Virg drops Ted with punches. Virg hits running lariats on him then russian legsweeps him. The Repo Man comes out as Virg hits corner punches. Repo grabs the Million Dollar Title and nails Virg with it as Sherri distracts the ref. Ted then pins Virg for the win.

Thoughts: The match wasn't bad at all and was a pretty typical face vs heel match. I'm not shocked Ted won. The Million Dollar Title is Ted's belt and because it's not a traditional title, it's not like it needed to be defended or anything. It's essentially just a prop. It was only a matter of time until Ted won it back. They did set up a Virgil vs Repo Man feud out of this which was smart. I don't know why they did here and not at Survivor Series.

Ted gets on the mic after. Virg is out. Ted slaps him around and ells him to never mess with him. He says Virg is back where he found him - penniless and in a gutter. Ted puts money in Virgil's mouth. El Matador then comes out and stops Ted. They argue. Tito blocks a shot from Ted and nails him. Tito then atomic drops Ted out of the ring setting up a new feud.

Mean Gene Okerlund interviews "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan on the stage. Gene asks who will replace his partner Jim Neidhart at Survivor Series after The Beverly Brothers attacked him. Duggan points out Herb Brooks in the crowd and puts him over as a proud American for beating the Russian team in the Miracle on Ice.

Duggan says he needed to look long and hard to find a replacement for Neidhart. He then brings out Sgt. Slaughter as Neidhart's replacement. Duggan also announces him as the honorary flag bearer.

Sarge says it's an honor to be here with Duggan and to hold the flag up. He says it's great to be back and says he finally got his country back. He then does the pledge of allegiance.

Thoughts: I hated this segment. Sarge was a traitor when he turned heel and is now being a traitor to his former heel friends who he now fights at Survivor Series. Sarge is such a snake.

Skinner vs El Matador

Skinner has a newish theme with swamp sounds. Heenan claims Skinner is chewing swamp tar and says Mike McGirk told him.

Tito backs up Skin in the corner and threatens him with a punch. Heenan says Adnan told him Sarge stabbed him in the back. Skin hammerlocks Tito then Tito reverses it. Skin threatens fans. Tito side headlocks him. Tito shoulders him over and Skin goes out.

Tito headscissors Skin then side headlocks him. Tito shoulders him over and side headlocks him again. Skin throws Tito out. Skin bangs Tito's head off the apron and chokes him. We go to break and return. Skin bites Tito's arm then bites his head. Skin pulls on Tito's mouth. Skin rakes Tito's face.  Skin foot chokes Tito.

Skin slams him and bangs Tito's head off the mat. Skin sits on his back with a chinlock then bangs his head off the buckles. Skin rakes his back and hits shots to the head. Skin snapmares and chinlocks him. Skin hits another slam. Skin goes up top and gets hit as he comes down. Tito hits 2 dropkicks and flying forearms him in the back of the head to win.

Thoughts: This was slow, boring and went too long. The work wasn't awful but it just did not need as much time as it got. This was not one of Tito's matches and he got little offense in.

We see Mean Gene interview Hulk Hogan on the stage from Superstars of Wrestling. Gene says some are saying Hulkamania will be dead after Survivor Series. Hulk says he faces his gravest challenge at Survivor Series. He said he has heard people say Hulkamania is dying and is dead for 8 years yet it still lives. Hulk says he fears no undertaker. He says the yellow of Hulkamania will light up the valley of death. He says the light will blind The Undertaker. He says the red guarantees him immortality.

Hulk says Ric Flair is Taker's henchman. He says the light will blind Ric Flair too. Hulk talks about Taker ripping his necklace. He says he will survive The Survivor Series. He asks what Taker and the red of immortality will do when Hulkamania runs wild on him.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper vs Hercules

Herc is out alone and is in Power and Glory gear. Herc and Piper go face to face. They roll on the ropes. They trade shots and Piper hits a punch flurry that drops Herc. Herc drops him with a back elbow. Herc does a double knuckle lock on Piper. Piper back rolls out and reverses it. Herc blocks a sunset flip and misses a punch. Piper eye pokes him then chops him down. Herc eye rakes him and hits punches. Heenan leaves commentary to go join Ric and Perfect.

Piper hits a flurry on Herc and is pulled out by the tights. Herc blocks Piper's slingshot sunset flip. Herc holds onto the ropes, the ref stops him and Piper gets a 2 count. Piper bulldogs him and wins.

Thoughts: It was short and not too much. Piper did eye pokes and stuff and wasn't exactly a clean face here. Herc going down so easy didn't help him out much.

Mean Gene Okerlund interviews The Mountie, The Warlord and Ted Dibiase on the stage. Gene then brings out Flair with Mr. Perfect and Bobby Heenan. Flair says he surrounded himself with the best including the greatest mind in Heenan and the greatest ring technician in Mr. Perfect. Heenan says Mr. Perfect is Flair's personal executive consultant.

Perfect says Hulkamania is on the downfall. He says Flair stands alone as the wrestling champ by himself. Ted says survival is what it's all about and we've got a lot of survivors here. Ted says the belt is back where he said it would be. He says Virgil will be the first to go at Survivor Series and he will put him on the street and penniless. Flair puts over his crew and yells to end the segment. Mountie and Warlord didn't get a single line in here.

Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan close the show. Vince tells Heenan to call the line and vote for Savage's reinstatement. Vince says the results for it will be given tomorrow. Vince says we will see The Gravest Challenge at Survivor Series and Heenan says Hulkamania will be buried and dead for Thanksgiving.

Overall thoughts: Virgil vs Dibiase was the best match on here. It wasn't a classic but they did what they were supposed to do and it made sense. Dibiase also got his Million Dollar Title back. Boss/Quake wasn't good. Tito/Skinner was as boring as it gets and Luke vs Blake Beverly wasn't good either. They did do a great job building of Survivor Series though and that's what is most important. Jake did a good promo here and we heard from mostly everyone involved in the show. I would give this a 5 out of 10. The in-ring stuff wasn't that good overall but they built up the show as they were supposed to. I wouldn't recommend this.

WWF Summerslam Spectacular 1991 8/18/1991

WWF Summerslam Spectacular 1991 8/18/1991

Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan are our hosts. Heenan says he can't wait for the main tonight which is Hulk vs Sarge for the WWF Title. He asks if Warrior will hide behind Hulk, considering he's snake bitten. Vince calls Bobby a beach bum as he is wearing some beach clothing.

Hawk vs Brian Knobbs

Knobbs stalls to start and keeps going out. They each get shots in and Knobbs takes a facebuster. Knobbs then does a nice bump out for it. Knobbs hits some punches when he gets back in. Vince says Jack Tunney promised no interference in this one. Hawk throws Knobbs backwards by the hair and fist drops him. Hawk hits corner punches. Hawk misses a corner spear. Knobbs then chairs Hawk outside while Jimmy Hart distracts the ref.

Knobbs double axe handles Hawk off the apron. Knobbs back elbows him. Knobbs crabs Hawk. Hawk uses his legs to push Knobbs out off the the crab. Knobbs double axe handles the back. Knobbs slams Hawk then sits on his back and pulls the chin.

Knobbs elbow drops and headbutt drops the back. Hawk stands up with Knobbs on his back and drops him backwards. Hawk facekicks him then flying shoulders him. Hawk powerslams him. Knobbs charges into the corner and gets a boot. Hawk diving lariats him off the top.

Thoughts: It wasn't great but I liked it. Knobbs took a nice bump to the outside and worked the back some before Hawk made his comeback and won. Both guys did what they were supposed to and there were no real problems with this.

Jake "The Snake" Roberts and The Ultimate Warrior are outside of a dark, creepy room. Jake says Lucifer's in there. Jake says there's a coffin in there with Lucifer waiting for him. He tells Warrior to reach his hand in there and let Lucifer gives him the answer. Warrior says he has no fear and the trust he had in Jake so far has done him no harm. Jake tells him to go for it and closes the door on him. Jake then locks the door. Jake says he'll shed light on the subject.

Warrior is then stuck in a room filled with snakes. Jake says these are friends of his. Warrior bats the snakes away. Jake says the snakes won't hurt Warrior. Jake says to reach in the coffin and find out what The Undertaker is made of. Jake says Warrior was buried in dirt and a casket and tells him to go to the center of the room.

Warrior touches a mini coffin with a snake on it. Jake says, "it's there". Warrior opens it up and Lucifer is inside. Lucifer stands up and supposedly bites him. Jake says that's not what you expected and not what the doctor ordered. Jake says Warrior is a little sick now and says the venom is part of it. Warrior wants out. Jake says it's not over yet. Jake tells Warrior there's nothing left to give him. Jake tells him to drop like the common man he is. Warrior then starts to drop down. Jake says this is what happens to all good men.

Jake then talks to the camera. He says he should come and see how the devil's work is done. Warrior then bursts through the door. Jake says Warrior is fighting to survive. Warrior then grabs boots and it's The Undertaker with Paul Bearer. Jake tells Warrior, "I'm a snake, never trust a snake". Warrior is then out cold and the segment ends.

Thoughts: Well that was quite the segment. I thought it was a great. This turned Jake heel after his long face run. This helped build a Warrior vs Taker and a Warrior vs Jake program.

Vince says Warrior was given anti-toxin in the ER and is now back on his feet.

We get a commercial for Summerslam.

Bret "The Hitman" Hart vs The Barbarian

Heenan says Warrior is done and says you can't trust Jake. Heenan says the surgeon general should put a label on Jake, letting people know he's dangerous for your health.  Bret gives a fan his sunglasses.

Bret side headlocks Barb and Barb shoulders him over. Barb then shoulders him over again and sends him out with it. Heenan says Hart can't think. Hart works Barb's arm and armdrags him. Hat armdrags him. Hart hits punches and then hits dropkicks. Barb goes out.

Hart jumps off the apron onto him, gets caught and is rammed into the apron. Barb swings Hart's back into the post. Barb foot chokes Hart then sends him into the buckles chest first. Barb backbreakers Hart. Coach is outside with a clipboard.

Hart goes for a hiptoss and is lariated over hard. Barb suplexes Hart. Barb goes for the pin, Vince says it's a 3 but the ref says it's 2. Barb sends Hart into the corner then bearhugs him. Hart bites Barb to escape which is pretty poor sportsmanship.

Barb stomps on Hart. Hart boots him out of the corner then 2nd rope diving lariats him. Hart hits an atomic drop then shots to the gut and head. Hart hits corner punches on Barb. Hart russian legsweeps Barb for 2. Hart backbreakers Barb then hits a 2nd rope elbow drop.

Barb facekicks Bret and Bret is kicked down to the floor. Barb tries to powerslam Hart in and Hart cradles him to win.

Thoughts: It was a long, slow and kind of boring at times. The work was okay though. Barb hit some nice stiff shots on Bret. I didn't like Bret's facework here as he bit Barb to get out of a hold for no reason.

Mean Gene Okerlund interviews Sid Justice on the platform. Sid says he can't control everything that goes on outside the ring at Summerslam but he can control everything that happens inside the ring. Gene says the match could side either way depending on which team he sides with. Gene asks him how he could be impartial.

Sid says Gene doesn't know him or what he stands for. Sid says he stands alone. He promises justice will be served at Summerslam.

Sgt. Slaughter General Adnan and Col. Mustafa do a promo. Sarge says it's him and Hulk 1v1 before Summerslam. He says there's many battles in a war and says he will take the title before Summerslam. He says Warrior won't be Ultimate and may not even be at Summerslam. He says it could be Hulk vs Sarge's Core of Destruction. Sarge says "Slaughter Rules" and says that's an order.

Irwin R. Schyster vs Mark Thomas

IRS says the government is in trouble and it's time people pay their taxes. Heenan says IRS saved him money last year. Heenan asks if Vince has a good accountant and asks when he's due out of jail.

IRS drops Mark with a punch then slams him. IRS hits elbow drops then flying lariats him. IRS does an abdominal stretch and rubs Mark's face into the mat. IRS samoan drops him and picks up the win as Vince make's fun of IRS' name.

Thoughts:
It was all squash here with Mark getting nothing in before being beaten.

IRS elbow drops him after.

We see clips from Macho Man's bachelor party from Prime Time Wrestling. There's a female indian style dancer dancing Macho. Slick's dancing and Jamison' getting down. Piper feints as a stripper dances. The Bushwhackers get hold of a giant cake. Heenan goes to check it out, thinking a girl is inside. A fat lady is in it, thinks it's Vince and puts the moves on Heenan. She then lifts him on her shoulders and we cut away. Heenan calls it the worst party he was ever at.

The British Bulldog, The Dragon & The Texas Tornado vs. The Orient Express (Kato, Tanaka and Sato)

Hey, Sato's back. We hadn't seen him since Kato debuted. Vince calls Fuji "The Avocado King" and "Chopstick Charlie".

Ricky and Tanaka start us off. Ricky side headlocks him and shoulders him over. Tanaka tries to send him over the top but Ricky skins the cat. Tanaka takes a high back body drop, a double chop and an armdrag. Davey shoulders Tanaka over then lariats him. Kato trips Davey from the outside and Davey takes a kick in the back.

Davey dropkicks Kato. Kerry works Kato's arm. Heenan says the heels names sound like an oriental law-firm. Vince says it sounds like a soy sauce. Kerry hits punches on Sato. Kerry gets a knee to the back from the apron. Heenan says Kerry's the only guy he knows who can hide his own easter eggs. Kato chops and eye rakes Ricky. Heenan calls the heels, "The Oreo Express".

Ricky takes a flying forearm from Tanaka then going for a piledriver on Kato. Fuji hits Ricky with his cane. Kato falling chops Ricky. Ricky is then triple teamed in the corner. Sato side kicks Ricky and chops his throat. Ricky takes a double chop.

Kato goes up and over Ricky then superkicks him. Ricky is double face raked on the ropes. Tanaka back body drops Ricky. Kato hits chops on Ricky then camel clutches him. Ricky gets triple teamed. Tanaka elbows Ricky in the gut and superkicks him. Ricky is bridged on the ropes and Tanaka butt drops his back there. Tanaka superkicks Ricky for 2.

Ricky neckbreakers Tanaka. Kato chinlocks Ricky. Ricky leapfrogs Kato then superkicks him. Davey is tagged in. Davey back body drops Kato then gorilla presses Sato and Tanaka. Kato tries an up and over but is caught with a running powerslam. Davey powerslams Kato. Ricky top rope crossbodies Kato and picks up the win.

Thoughts:
It was a good tag here with the heels being heels and Ricky doing the majority of the selling for the team. We didn't see much of Kerry in this one. Tanaka bumped around like a mad man as usual. I would have liked to have seen Sato get more offense in though. Heenan was really funny on commentary.

Heenan and Vince talk about the Summerslam main event. Heenan says Warrior's mind is "mashed potatoes" and totally gone. Heenan says the main event will be something and salutes as Sarge's music hits. Heenan then pulls out the NWA Title. He says Ric Flair is the real world's champ and says he will give the winner of this a title shot.

WWF Title - Hulk Hogan (c) vs Sgt. Slaughter

Adnan and Mustafa are at ringside. They lock up and Sarge is pushed in the corner. Sarge hits punches on Hulk then chest clubs him. Sarge takes a back body drop then Hulk hits a lariat. Hulk bangs Sarge's head off the post and hits mounted punches inside.

Sarge rakes Hulk in the eyes and on the back. Sarge knocks Hulk out of the ring with a punch. Adnan nails Hulk outside. Mustafa bangs Hulk's head off the apron. Sarge hits punches on Hulk then bites his head. Sarge drops Hulk with punches. We go to break and return.

Sarge chokes Hulk on the top rope then hits Hulk in the back with a chair. Sarge hits a top rope knee drop on Hulk's back for 2. Hulk is busted open and starts to hulk up after taking punches. Hulk points at him and hits punches. Hulk then hits the big boot. Adnan throws powder into Hulk's eyes.

Mustafa gets in the ring and stomps on Hulk for the DQ. Adnan and Sarge join in. The ref is thrown over the top. Hulk is then put in a camel clutch and slapped with Adnan's hat. Sid Justice comes out and jumps to the apron. Sid backs up the heels. Hulk grabs the chair and the heels run. Sid takes the chair from Hulk.

Thoughts:
The match wasn't much. I was surprised to see Hulk bleed. Sarge did basic stuff and Hulk made his comeback.

Hulk and Sid argue over the chair then Sid leaves.

We see clips of Earthquake injuring Andre the Giant.

The Natural Disasters (Earthquake & Typhoon) vs. Ray Garcia & Russ Greenberg

Typhoon clubs Ray then lariats him. Typhoon hits an elbow drop then does a standing dropkick. Quake back elbows Ray then elbow drops him. Quake corner splashes Ray then Typhoon does as well. Quake clubs on Russ and Russ takes a double body block. Russ is thrown over the top.

Ray is slammed then splashed by Typhoon. Quake then butt drops Ray and pins him.

Thoughts: It was all squash as expected here with the jobbers getting nothing in before their demise. As usual, The Disasters looked good with lots of weight based offense.

The Barber Shop

Brutus Beefcake welcomes us to the show. Sensational Sherri is this week's guest. She is asked what her gift for Macho and Liz is for their wedding. She says she wants to deliver it to them right now. She says she'd like to slap Macho and puke all over Liz. Brutus says that's a little extreme and Sherri says it's not. Sherri says the overrated and over the hill Macho lost at Wrestlemania VII then proposed to Miss Elizabeth. Sherri says the wedding is a mistake.

Brutus says Sherri is bitter and says it will be a happy ending for Macho and Liz. Sherri says Liz and Macho won't be the match made in heaven but the match made in hell if she has anything to do with it. Brutus says he arraigned Sherri's transportation to the wedding and hands her a broom. Sheri swings it at him and knocks some stuff over with it.

Summerslam Report

Mean Gene talks about the Summerslam main event. He says Hulk and Warrior are unavailable for comment. We hear from Sgt. Slaughter's team. Sarge says Hulk got bit. Sarge asks what will Hulk do when his partner is laying around wishing he's not there. Sarge says he wants Sid to let them do things their way. Sarge says his trio will destroy Hulkamania once and for all.

Gene runs down the rest of the card. Ted Dibiase and Sherri do a promo. They say the buck stops here. Ted says Virgil may show up in a limo but he leaves in a yellow cab. Virgil says he will ride the train down to Summerslam and will tip the limo driver so nicely that he will go down to Broadway and Ted/Sherri will pay the tab.

The Mountie and Jimmy Hart do a promo. Mountie says Boss' running days are coming to an end and his hard time serving days are coming to a beginning. He says he will put him in jail. The Big Boss Man does a promo. He says it'll make him feel good to make Mountie feel real bad as he's going to jail.

Ted Dibiase comes out with a masked wrestler who is wearing The Black Knight's mask (he was a jobber who was on Superstars a few times this year). Ted says he knows Virgil can hear him. He says everyone knows Virgil's dream in life is to beat him and Summerslam and take the Million Dollar Belt. He says he paid this wrestler a lot of money to break Virgil in half. He says Virgil should be confident to face Ted's man.

Virgil vs Ted Dibiase's Masked Wrestler

They lock up and Virgil is pushed down. The masked guy hits shots on a downed Virgil then chokes him. Virgil's eye is raked on the ropes. Virgil hits punches then hiptosses him. The masked guy waistlock takedowns him and Vince wonders who the masked guy is. Virg goes up and over and rolls up the masked guy for 2. Virg hits some punches and wristlocks him.

Virg shoulders the masked guy over then takes a stun gun. Virg is dropped throat first on the top rope. The masked guy stomps Virg then puts Virg in a sleeper. Virg hits a punch.

Virg lariats the masked guy. Heenan says "Murray" is the masked guy's name. Virhg puts the million dollar dream on the masked guy. Ted Dibiase trips Virg from the outside and Virg is lariated hard over the top. Ted gets a cheapshot in on Virg then the masked guy suplexes Virg in. The masked guy suplexes Virg. He does a splash but Virg gets his knees up. Virg then pins the masked guy.

Thoughts:
They say Smash was under the hood here. The masked guy got a bunch of offense in and was not treated like a jobber. It was average though. Virg took a nice lariat over the top to the floor.

The Mountie takes us on a tour of the jail cell Boss Man will be in. He says Boss will be kicking and begging for mercy. He says they will take a photo of Boss then Mountie poses for photos. Mountie says the real fun will be when Boss gets fingerprinted. Mountie fingerprints someone and says it'll be another black stain in Boss' life. Mountie says there's only room for one law enforcement officer in the WWF. Mountie slams the door and says Boss will serve hard time.

The Big Boss Man says it's good Mountie is checking out the jail as he will get a second chance at Summerslam. He says he will take his last breath as a free man and will serve hard time.

Bobby and Vince close the show. Heenan says someone will raise their hand when they ask if anyone objects to Macho and Liz's wedding. They talk about the Summerslam card.

Overall thoughts: They gave away a much better card than we usually get each week. I was surprised we got a WWF Title match but wasn't surprised it ended in shenanigans. I liked this one. The work was good in the various matches. Hawk/Knobbs was fine and the trios match was good. Hart/Barbarian was a little slow. The WWF Title match wasn't much. The show wasn't great but it was a nice way to hype up Summerslam some. I'd give it a 5 out of 10 overall.

WWF Primetime Wrestling 3/17/1991 Superstars and Stripes Forever

WWF Primetime Wrestling 3/17/1991 Superstars and Stripes Forever

This also seems to be known as The Road To Wrestlemania VII.

Vince McMahon and Bobby Heenan are our hosts. They run down the card.

WWF Intercontinental Title - Mr. Perfect (c) vs Shawn Michaels

Heenan says this is a warm-up match and he's not going to be out there with Perfect. This is a random one but it should be good. Shawn has cool black tights on with a tiger stripe jacket. They see a blonde fan in the crowd and Heenan asks if it's Marla Maples (she will be on Mania VII).

Perfect pokes Shawn and we are told WWF Primetime Wrestling is moving to Tuesdays permanently. Perfect back elbows Shawn off the waistlock. Shawn euros him and Perfect does a big bump for it. Shawn blocks jabs and asks if he wants to fight him. Shawn puts his fists up and Shawn decks Perfect. Shawn pounds on the back of Perfect's head. Perfect slides out and Shawn grabs his hair. Shawn then does a nice suicide dive over the top, nailing Perfect and a camera man.

Shawn keeps pounding on Perfect then is stungunned on the rails. Marty Jannetty comes out to help out Perfect.

We go to break and return. Perfect hits punches on Shawn. Perfect hits a standing dropkick then hits chops. Shawn chops him. Shawn is thrown into the buckles and takes a bump to the apron. Perfect lariats him on the apron. Shawn bangs Perfect's head off the mat.

Perfect hits more punches and knees Shawn out of the ring. Heenan says, "Perfect is on him like a bum on a bologna sandwich". Perfect snapmares him and pulls his neck forward. Perfect bends over, is kicked and takes a big bump. Perfect puts him in a sleeper.

Shawn chinbreakers him the does a big bump for a knee. Perfect slaps Marty then Marty hits him back. Heenan heads to ringside after seeing that. He really hustles down there too. Heenan tells the ref that Marty hit Shawn.

Marty argues with Heenan then is nailed from behind by Perfect. Perfect sends him into the post. Shawn crotches Perfect around the post and both Heenan and Perfect make great faces for it. Shawn hits leg kicks and atomic drops Perfect. Perfect bumps into the buckles and hits his head off of it. Shawn lariats him then superkicks him for 2.

Shawn neckbreakers Perfect. Shawn goes up top and Heenan tries to knock him off the buckles. Shawn grabs him then The Big Boss Man comes in. He breaks up Perfect's perfectplex and Shawn is DQ'd. Perfect slides out to avoid Boss then is hit by Jannetty and leaves. Boss then chases Perfect.

Thoughts: Perfect should have gotten DQ'd for Heenan trying to interfere. The finish wasn't good as typical of wrestling from this time period but it at least made some sense. The work was good here as expected with Perfect bumping around like usual.  The two really had an exciting match and I would have liked to have seen a winner.

Boss celebrates after and Andre The Giant pops up from behind and scares him. Boss goes to hit him but Andre offers a handshake. Boss shakes his hand and Andre raises his hand.

Mean Gene Okerlund is in the ring with Jack Tunney, maybe Billy Red Lyons, Tony Garea and other officials. There will be a contract signing for Macho King Randy Savage vs the Ultimate Warrior.

Macho and Warrior come out. Macho says he wants to get him out of the WWF. He said Warrior will get beat and there's nothing he can do about it. He says he will make him extinct. Macho tells Tunney he stands for everything in the WWF and says Warrior won't stop the momentum. Macho signs the contract. Warrior pushes the table and says Macho's dreams of becoming champ will be shattered. He says all that Macho will have left is memories after Wrestlemania VII. Warrior throws the table over and The Undertaker comes out.

Taker and Paul Bearer stare down Warrior. Warrior tells Macho he will destroy him and his career. Warrior stares down Taker and leaves.

Thoughts:
I have no idea why Taker came out here.

The British Bulldog vs Jim Corbett

Winston is with Davey and this is one of his first appearances. Winston has a platform to sit on near the end.

Davey side headlocks him and shoulders him over. Jim get his hiptoss blocked and Davey lariats him. Jim eye rakes him. Jim tries for a full-nelson but Davey breaks it and puts his own on. Jim walks up the ropes to get out and Davey just lets him go.

Davey hits a suplex. Vince calls the comments from the fake Queen on Superstars a hoax. Davey powerslams Jim and gets the win.

Thoughts: It was a quick squash as usual but at least Jim got a little offense in. He definitely did the full nelson to foreshadow The Warlord/Davey match.

Jake Roberts does a promo. He says the lights go out on Martel at Wrestlemania VII. He says the only thing worse than defeat is the anticipation. He says it's the inner most fear a man has and Jake says he's the one Martel fears.

Blindfold Match - Koko B. Ware vs "The Model" Rick Martel

They fight before the blindfolds get on. Koko hits punches when Rick turns his back on him. Koko hits a back body drop and dropkicks. Rick then goes out. The ref put the blindfolds on. Koko has his on, Rick takes it off and beats up Koko. Koko gets the crap beaten out of him and is booted out. Koko doesn't know Rick doesn't have the hood on (which is why he still has it on) and Heenan laughs.

Rick rams Koko's back into the post outside. The ref finally gets the hood on Martel. They each search around for the other and Koko nearly goes after a ref. They crawl around, looking for each other and Rick grabs Koko's legs. Rick then boston crabs Koko and wins.

Thoughts: Rick was a great heel here for nailing Koko while he was blindfolded, though he probably should have been DQ'd for it. The match was nothing though. It was short and just a lot of crawling around.

Rick stomps on Koko again while he still has the hood on.

"Rowdy" Roddy Piper hosts Ted Dibiase on the stage. He says Piper is not Evel Knievel and will be no help to Virgil. Piper accuses him of being nervous. Piper says he can smell Ted's toejam and says he doesn't have Virgil to clean his toes anymore.

Piper says he wasn't planning on doing anything to Ted at Mania as he figures Virgil can take of business on his own. Piper asks why Ted can't afford a back to his shirt. Piper says he's a guy who would give him the shirt on his back. He then gives Ted his shirt so he can have one that covers his back. Ted then throws it.

Piper said Ted has money but no friends and is stuck at Mania. Ted says he runs his big mouth like a woman. He says he dresses like a woman and looks like one. Ted says Piper led the lamb to slaughter and will have a ringside seat at Mania. He says Virgil is noting more than a gutter rat.

Piper asks if he would say this to Virgil's face and he says he would. He says Virgil is nothing more than a servant. He says he's so dumb that you'd have to lead him in the direction of a corner to find it.

Virgil eventually comes out. Piper tells Ted to say the things to his face about him being dumb and a gutter rat. Virgil says in one week at Wrestlemania VII, he will kick his butt. Piper and Virgil then walk off.

Thoughts: It was about what I expected with Piper going off and not exactly being the best host ever.

Greg "The Hammer" Valentine vs Scott Allen

They lock up and Scott side headlocks him. Greg hiptosses him and armlocks him. They trade chops in the corner. Greg lariats him out of the corner. Scott offers a handshake and Greg hits him. Greg hits some elbows and a gutbuster.

Scott clubs on Greg's back then side headlocks him. Greg kicks him in the leg then headbutts him in the gut. Greg does an elbow drop then figure fours. Scott then taps out.

Thoughts: It was a short squash and nothing too special. Greg wasn't the best face ever here and Scott posted no challenge.

General Adnan and Sgt. Slaughter do a promo. Adnan talks in his language. Sarge tells the people to listen up. He says Adnan will get in the ring with Hulk to see what makes him tick. Sarge said they never fought before but he will know every inch of him when Adnan gets done with him. He says peace is for pansies.

Hulk Hogan does a promo. He says we are a week away from Mania. He says he won't underestimate his opponent and said he will seek and destroy. He says Hulkamania is the only thing that will live forever.

Hulk Hogan vs General Adnan

We get a rare Hulk TV match here. Adnan eye rakes Hulk and rakes his back. Adnan rips Hulk's shirt off and goes to the eyes again. Hulk kicks him then hits punches. hulk running lariats him. Sgt. Slaughter comes in and hits Hulk with the WWF Title for the DQ. Sarge then hits him with his riding crop and clubs him.

Sarge hits Hulk with the flag then camel clutches him. The refs try to break it but can't. Sarge gets off and Hulk is stomped on and hit with the flag.

Thoughts: We didn't get much of this one here and it shouldn't be that surprising. It was little more than a way to add some heat to Hulk/Sarge.

Mean Gene interviews General Adnan and Sgt. Slaughter. Adnan talks in his language. Sarge says he only wants to hear two words - unconditional surrender. He tells Hulk not to kid anyone. He says Hulk says it's for God, the people and the country but Sarge says it's really for the gold. Sarge says he felt Hulk's back bones crack while in camel clutch.

We see a rather lengthy highlight vid of the #1 contenders tag team battle royale on Superstars a few weeks ago.

The Nasty Boys and Jimmy Hart are interviewed. Jimmy Hart says Bret Hart will be in trouble against Knobbs. Saggs says he will keep things square with Anvil. Knobbs says Hitman is an appropriate name. He will hit him in the eyes and nose.

Brian Knobbs vs Bret Hart

Neidhart is in his wrestling attire for some reason even though he's not wrestling. They lock up. Knobbs hits punches on Bret in the corner then bangs his head off the buckles. Bret hiptosses Knobbs then atomic drops him. Bret flying back elbows him and Knobbs takes a nice bump out.

Knobbs is slingshotted in. He begs off and hits Bret. He eye rakes Bret then forearms him. Bret flying crossbodies him then hits mounted punches. Bret armdrags him.

Knobbs eye rakes him again. Bret blocks a boot. Saggs gets on the apron and Anvil nails him. Jimmy tries to hit Anvil with the megaphone but Anvil blocks it and chases him. Saggs gets on the apron and Knobbs hits a mean lariat from behind. Knobbs lariats him out. Anvil comes back in.

Knobbs goes for a slam but Bret falls on him. Knobbs hits mounted punches and boots. Knobbs boots him out of the corner then hits more boots. Knobbs eye rakes him. Bret hits punches and russian legsweeps him. Bret suplexes him. Bret backbreakers him and elbow drops him off the 2nd rope.

Saggs gets on the apron and sends Anvil into the rails. Saggs trips Bret then Knobbs piledrivers Brett. Saggs tries to hold Bret on the apron but Anvil pulls him down. Bret then wins with a flying clothesline.

Thoughts: Similar to the Mania match between The Nasties and The Harts, it went long and they repeated a lot of spots. It wasn't bad but it got boring after a while.

Mean Gene Okerlund interviews Hulk Hogan on the stage. Hulk said he should have known that Adnan and Sarge had each others backs. He says there's no way Sarge will beat him at Mania 7. He said he feels no pain and is thinking about winning at Mania 7. He said one of the happiest days of his life was when he was told the troops are coming home and the war is over. Hulk says the war is not over as long as there is vermin like Saddam Hussein and Sgt. Slaughter. He says he pledges to Sarge that this will be the mother of all wars.

He says he wants to dedicate Mania 7 to all the troops and Hulkamaniacs. He says he wants Sarge at Wrestlemania 7 and asks what Sarge will do.

The Undertaker vs Tugboat

He says they played Taker's theme at Regis Philbin's wedding and says he wants to hear Willie Nelson hum Taker's tune. Heenan asks if they will vacuum Willie before Mania.

Taker nails Tug as he enters. Taker hits boots and punches then corner splashes him. Taker misses a splash. Tug tries to slam him but Taker falls on him. Taker misses an elbow drop and Taker flying clotheslines him.

Taker chokes Tug then Tug fails to slam him again. Taker leg lariats him on the ropes then pulls him back off the ropes. Taker knee drops Tug then misses an elbow drop.

Tug powerslams him and Taker no sells it. Tug corner splashes Taker. Taker avoids a splash then top rope elbow drops him to win.

Thoughts: It was more of an athletic match than you would think here. I was surprised to see Tug beaten so easily in this one. They kept a pretty good pace as well.

Taker pours dirt on Tug after.

We see a video package on Hulk vs Slaughter to end the show.

Overall thoughts: It was about average overall. There was nothing too great on this one and there were a lot of dirty finishes. I was surprised to see Adnan on here and I was surprised Tugboat got jobbed out.

WWF Primetime Wrestling 1/18/1990 Survivor Series Showdown 1990

WWF Primetime Wrestling 1/18/1990 Survivor Series Showdown 1990

I covered Survivor Series 1990 here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2024/05/wwf-survivor-series-1990-11221990.html

This show features some wrestlers from opposing Survivor Series teams facing each other as a way to hype up Survivor Series. It's a simple concept but a cool one especially by 1990's standards.

Gorilla Monsoon and Bobby Heenan are our commentators. Heenan asks if there's any protection here and if Gorilla will protect him from The Big Boss Man. Gorilla says he's not promising that.

Sgt. Slaughter vs Tito Santana

Heenan asks if Tito will be the one doing the thinking for The Bushwhackers and Nikolai Volkoff at Survivor Series. He says it won't take long to think for that team. Sarge stalls to start. Tito wristlocks him and Sarge claims he pulled his hair. He then demonstrates this to the ref.

Sarge hits boots to the gut and knees him. Sarge elbows Tito in the gut and says "you can always find another wife, there's more out there". Sarge double stomps Tito and hits shots to the gut. Sarge eye rakes him and bangs Tito's head off the buckle. Sarge puts Tito on the buckle and pounds on him. Tito boots Sarge in the gut and hits a punch combo. Tito bends over and is kicked.

Tito is dropped gut first on the top rope then Sarge boots him in the gut. Tito sunset flips Sarge for 2. Sarge hits punches then Tito fires back. Sarge is sent into the buckles chest first and goes over the top to the floor. Tito goes after Adnan outside.

Tito first drops Sarge off the buckles then knee drops him. Tito sleepers Sarge then Sarge backbreakers him. Sarge suplexes him then misses a rare top rope splash. Tito misses a dropkick then throws Sarge off the top. Tito flying forearms Sarge and Sarge takes a nice bump into the ropes and outside. Tito grabs Sarge and Adnan then bangs their heads together. Tito goes for a slam, Adnan grabs Tito's feet and Sarge picks up the win. Heenan says, "In Iraq, you can do that".

Tito goes after Sarge in the aisle after and hits some shots.

Thoughts: It wasn't that good early on but it picked up by the end. This was Sarge's best performance yet and he really bumped here for being a 300lb guy. He got thrown off the top, he bumped through the ropes and took a bump over the top to the outside. It was a weird one here though with Tito working a sleeper on Sarge instead of the heel traditionally doing it. They piped in crowd noise here as you could see the fans not moving an inch yet we heard big cheers.

The Mercenaries are interviewed by Sean Mooney. Sarge tells him to call him "sir" and said he doesn't care what he thinks. He says he's the captain of The Mercenaries. He said he went out and showed his team how to win. Tanaka said he can't wait to get his hands on The Bushwhackers. Zhukov says he promised he would eliminate Volkoff and said they must survive. Sarge says they will win and destroy and that's an order.

Mean Gene interviews The Alliance. Tito says he found out about the no good Slaughter. He said he's a traitor and disgrace who can't get the job done on his own. He says Sarge will find out what the odds are when it's 4v1. Butch says they are going into The Series heart and soul and said they will go in with old glory even though they aren't American. Volkoff says they are ready and tells Sarge to get out of the US if he doesn't like it.

"The Model" Rick Martel vs Marty Jannetty

MJ = Marty Jannetty

Heenan says Marty's Survivor Series team has 7 eyes total.

They lock up and Gorilla calls the ref "Freddie The Freeloader". Rick armdrags MJ and does exercises. Heenan says Jake has got himself a blind date at Survivor Series. Rick side headlocks MJ. Rick slides out after MJ's leapfrog and stalls. Heenan says Jake won't make it to the grand finale of SS unless there's seeing eye dogs. Rick bangs MJ's head off the buckles then chokes him in the corner.

Rick catapults MJ's throat into the bottom rope and bangs his head off the buckles. Rick knees him in the gut then misses a knee in the corner. MJ works Rick's leg and pulls Rick off the ropes. Rick upkicks him off and MJ cartwheels. MJ goes back to his toe lock on Rick.

MJ blocks a hiptoss and hits his own. MJ spinebusters Rick and ties up his leg again. MJ kneebreakers Ric and goes back to the toe hold. MJ is pushed out to the floor then his back is sent into the apron. Rick slams MJ then elbow drops MJ's spine. Rick hits him in the gut then is hit in the gut off the 2nd rope. MJ flying back elbows him and diving facebusters him.

MJ is thrown out. MJ goes for a slingshot sunset flip but Rick ducks it. Rick then picks up the win.

Thoughts: It wasn't that interesting of a match and definitely disappointed. MJ worked on Rick's leg but it never ended up going anywhere.

The Vipers are interviewed. Gene says Jake is coming back too soon. Jake says everyone has something to say. Jake says if you want to find out about his health, talk to his psychiatrist not his doctor. Shawn said this team has gotten past every obstacle put in their way. Marty said they are coming after Power and Glory and leaving Martel to Jake. Snuka tells Warlord to pay attention and tells him to get himself ready. Jake says believe in yourself. He says you can take one thing away from a man but it makes the others stronger. He says it's always too late when you look evil in the eye and shows his injured eye. Shawn says they are ready and coming at them.

The Visionaries are interviewed by Sean Mooney. Rick talks about his win over MJ. He says everyone will see them beat The Vipers at the PPV and he calls them a bunch of worms. Rick said he planned his attack on Jake and says he may need another patch. Roma says The Vipers can't see or walk nor do they have trees to pick coconuts from, so what are they gonna do?

Herc said they better open up their eyes and understand that only the strong survive. Warlord said they are all survivors and have a vision. He said he can't wait to be left alone with Superfly. The Vipers then walk in and go after The Visionaries. They fight and we quickly go to break.

The Hulkamaniacs are interviewed. Hulk says anything goes at Survivor Series. He said his crew has been hanging out at Venice Beach. He says he doesn't see any way Quake's team can get past them with a 2x4 on their side. Duggan says the plan is to attack, attack, attack and said they are coming to beat people up. The Big Boss Man says its personal. He says Haku is part of The Heenan Family and at the top of his list. He says there will be no survivors. Hulk says their team has vowed to take care of all the bad guys in the WWF.

The Big Boss Man vs Earthquake

Gorilla tries to get Heenan to go down there and settle things with Boss. Quake pushes Boss back into the buckles. Boss side headlocks him then hits a nice uppercut. The spit goes flying off of it. Quake slams Boss then misses an elbow drop. Boss goes after Jimmy Hart and Hart runs.

Quake misses a corner splash and is tripped. Boss crossbodies Quake off the top and is caught and powerslammed. Heenan says he's going to take a little stroll and heads down to ringside.  Quake sits on Boss' chest in the corner. Heenan slaps Boss around when he's in the corner.

Quake stomps on Boss then elbow drops him. Quake then walks on Boss. Quake headbutts and bearhugs Boss. Boss hits headbutts and bites Quake on the nose to get out. Quake bearhugs him and drives him into the corner. Heenan grabs Hart's megaphone and shouts instructions.

Boss hits some shots then Quake knees him in the gut. Boss hits a step up enzugiri for 2. Boss hits lariats and gets Quake tied up in the ropes. Boss splashes Quake against the ropes then decks Hart on the apron. Boss takes a back body drop over the top. Heenan then stomps on Boss outside. Boss goes after Heenan and they run to the back. Boss is then counted out.

Thoughts: The match was a little longer and slower than it needed to be. It should have been a good one as both are agile super heavyweights but it was just hard to get excited about it.

The Natural Disasters are interviewed by Sean Mooney. Quake says he won't end up 1v4. He says he has the strongest and meanest team in the WWF. He says there is no way The Hulkamaniacs advance to the grand finale against them. Barbarian says Boss has to go through him or Haku to put his hands on Heenan. He says Survivor Series is coming closer and they are coming to get The Hulkamaniacs. Haku said he doesn't care about Jim Duggan and says they will walk out victorious. Sean says anything can happen. Dino says Tugboat, Duggan, Bossman and then Hogan will be eliminated. He says this will be Hulk's last match and Hulkamania will die. Quake says all 4 of them will be in the grand finale.

Bret "The Hitman" Hart vs The Honky Tonk Man

Bret backs Honky up and Honky stalls. They lock up. Bret pounds on the arm. Bret armlocks him and they trade hammerlocks. Honky is grounded with a hammerlock. Bret armdrags and armlocks him. Honky charges at Bret and runs into the buckles. Bret euros him then atomic drops him.

We go to break and return. Honky hits corner punches then takes a big atomic drop. Bret misses an elbow drop and Honky chinlocks him. Bret shoulders him over then takes a knee to the gut. Honky chinlocks him then knees him in the gut.

Honky comes off the buckles and is hit in the gut. Bret hits punches then bangs Honky's head off the buckles. Bret snapmares him and legdrops him. Bret suplexes him then backbreakers him. Jimmy Hart gets on the apron then gets in the ring. Bret stops him and pushes Honky into him. Hart then rolls up Honky and wins it.

Thoughts: Like the other matches on this show, it was longer and slower and not that interesting with a lame finish. Honky bumped well here and this was definitely part of a longer term push to get Bret going as a singles guy.

Sean Mooney interviews The Million Dollar Team. Honky says Bret just cheated to win. He says there will be no cheating to win at Survivor Series. Ted says Hart will be the hart he was meant to be - hartbroken. Ted says he has an ace in the hole at Survivor Series. He says it's too bad Dusty doesn't have his punk kid in his corner as then they would have all the turkeys in the ring at the same time. He said Dusty is like that old mule that keeps butting his head against the wall. Ted says they will prove it once and for all at Survivor Series. Greg says Koko can bring his bird down and Greg says they will roast him as their Thanksgiving bird. Greg says they are The Dream Team as they are dreaming if they think they can get past them. Greg says they will put it out and pull them down. Ted says money is the motivation and says don't underestimate what he has in the mystery partner. He says Dusty will be the biggest stuffed turkey of them all.

The Dream Team are interviewed. Hart says Honky lost the battle and said they will win the war at Survivor Series. Koo sings. Neidhart says this is down his alley and asks if they have to hire a private investigator to find out who the mystery partner is. Neidhart says they just have to survive. Dusty says when you bring a force they know nothing about, they get meaner and better. Dusty says there's family involved. He says he's coming specifically for Ted Dibiase. Dusty said they don't care what the mystery partner looks like as they will kick butt.

The Ultimate Team are interviewed. Warrior isn't wearing face paint and clearly just got done wrestling despite not being in action here. Animal says The Perfect Team thinks they can do no wrong. Animal says they should eat their turkey early as they may have to eat it through a straw when they kick their teeth down their throat. Texas Tornado says he's tired of hearing about The Perfect Team. He says Perfect can't run because he has got The Warrior and The LOD helping him. Hawk says odds make no difference to them as they have fought them all their lives. Hawk ask what it's like to make someone who thinks they are perfect look unperfect in front of a lot of people. Warrior says even Gene can't escape now and must stay with them until Survivor Series. He says he will program his individuals to stay unstructured and unbalanced. Not a good one here from Warrior.

Texas Tornado vs Smash

Mr. Fuji is not with Smash here despite them coming out together a few days later. Smash is also wearing his mask here despite not wearing it at Survivor Series.

They lock up and shove each other. Kerry blocks punches and hits his own. Kerry goes for the iron claw and Smash slides out. Heenan says you can't hurt Demolition in the head area as long as the mask is on and tells Gorilla to figure it out. Smash and Kerry trade punches. Smash snapmares him and clubs on him. Heenan calls Kerry "The Texas Toilet".

Kerry hits a discus punch then throws Smash out to the floor. Kerry hits punches outside and slams him on the floor. Smash hits shots to the gut and head. Kerry hiptosses and armdrags him. Kerry armlocks him then spears the buckle when Smash moves. Smash wraps the arm around the buckle then backbreakers him.

Smash armlocks Kerry then Kerry gets the iron claw on. Kerry tries to pin him with it and Smash puts his foot on the ropes. Smash running clotheslines him and hits punches. Mr. Perfect comes out. He gets on the apron and tries to hit Kerry but is nailed. Perfect gets in the ring. Kerry hits Perfect and Smash then Kerry takes a 2v1. Smash is disqualified. The rest of Demolition then come down and beat up Kerry. Kerry takes a demolition decapitation. The Legion of Doom come down and get the edge then Ultimate Warrior comes out and sends Perfect out twice.

Thoughts:
This was another slow paced match with a dirty finish and little of note happening. It wasn't that interesting.

The Perfect Team are interviewed by Sean Mooney. Perfect defends him being at ringside in the Kerry/Smash match. He said he can be at ringside anytime and said Kerry needs an adjustment for hitting him. Smash says he had Kerry down and Kerry knew it. Smash calls The LOD the "Legion of Dumb" and says Warrior is "The Ultimate Meatball". Crush said he hopes all of The Warrior's saw what happened to Kerry. Ax says they are going to show that they are the best wrestling machine there is today. Ax says Perfect wishes for Kerry's neck to twist for Thanksgiving and they will give it to him. Perfect says survival is the name of the game and says he sees a perfect victory at Survivor Series.

Gorilla and Heenan talk. Gorilla said we saw some good matches and Heenan said Boss Man got what he had coming. They run down the card for Survivor Series and talk about the hatching of the egg. Gorilla says it will be a happening and will be something else.

Overall thoughts: I wasn't a fan of this show. Every match was long and slow and every match but one had a dirty finish of some sort. The concept of having Survivor Series opponents fight was cool and the promos from all of the teams were cool but the matches didn't deliver. Heenan was hilarious here on commentary. The crowd wasn't real interested in this show and was quiet for most of it. I wouldn't recommend this.
