Stardom 8/13/2022 5*Star Grand Prix 2022 Day 6
I saw all of the GP matches:
5*Star Grand Prix Match - Red Stars - AZM vs Momo Kohgo
AZM shoulder throws her then they roll around. Momo hurricanrana's her from the back and AZM running knees her. AZM goes for the fujiwara armbar then back kicks her. Momo hits chest forearms and is forearmed down twice. AZM springboard armdrags her into a rings of saturn and Momo rolls it into a pin attempt.
Momo dropkicks her and 619's her as she stands on the 2nd rope, knocking her off. AZM suplexes her then Momo headscissors her. Momo hits a 619 then springboard dropkicks her. They roll each other around and Momo gets a 2 count. AZM high kicks her then Momo superkicks her. AZM then spike hurricanrana's her while she is between the ropes. AZM top rope double stomps her then germans her for the win.
It was okay but they got lost a little in the middle with the rolling around which took away from this some. It was very fast paced and they only had like under 8 minutes here.
5*Star Grand Prix Match - Blue Stars - Hanan vs Momo Watanabe
Hanan takes her down to start and they trade side headlocks. Hanan hip throws her and Momo dropkicks her. Momo slams her and kicks her while she is down. Hanan misses a 2nd rope twisting crossbody and gets PK'd. Momo then kicks her around. Hanan then rolling armbars her. Hanan twisting crossbodies her off the 2nd rope then northern lights suplexes her.
Hanan is put in the tree of woe and is kicked as she hangs. Momo then dropkicks her and meteora's her for 2. Momo 2nd rope meteora's her for 2 then Hana fameassers her. Hanan goes for a move and is tripped into a chickenwing and a high kick. Momo then peach sunrises her for 2. Hanan rolls her out of a move attempt for 2 then rolls her up for another 2.
Momo high kicks her and she no sells it and Momo wins via a grounded crossface chickenwing.
Hanan worked as the underdog here but needed to do a little more selling. This was very fast paced and it was decent.
5*Star Grand Prix Match - Red Stars - Syuri vs Mai Sakurai
Mai running shotgun dropkicks her to start and forearm flurries her on the ropes. Syuri stiffly bangs her head off the buckles then kicks her in the back. They catfight and Mai sits on her chest and does a big forearm flurry. Mai facekicks her and bulldogs her for 2. Syuri then underhook suplexes her.
Mai throws her off the top and STF's her. Mai facekicks her through the ropes then leg slices her out of the reverse ddt position. Mai then 2nd rope dropkicks her. Mai wristclutch northern lights bombs her for 2 and top rope elbow drops her for 2.
Syuri release germans her and sto's her for 2. Mai forearm flurries her on the ropes then takes a high kick for 2. Syuri running knees her for 2 and hits a stiff buzzsaw kick for the win.
It was stiff, fiery and fast paced here. Mai did a real good job bringing the hate and Syuri's buzzsaw kick at the end was nasty.
5*Star Grand Prix Match - Blue Stars - Hazuki vs Mina Shirakawa
They lock up and trade armdrags. Haz dropkicks her and slams her. Haz then sentons her and hair throws her. Haz facewash kicks her through the ropes and footslaps her around. Mina russian legsweeps her and hits chest kicks. Haz then blocks a forearm and ddt's her. Haz codebreakers her into a bulldog choke.
They go up top and Mina forearms her. Haz rolls onto the apron and floor then Mina top rope crossbodies her. Mina reverse ddt's her for 2 and they trade forearms. Haz pump kicks her then Mina step-up enzugiri's her. Mina spinning forearms her to the back of the head then bridging ddt's her for 2. Haz gets out of a move and codebreakers her then pump kicks her through the ropes. Haz then pumpkicks her for another 2.
Haz top rope sentons her for 2 and Mina thesz presses her. Haz slams her then wins it with a stiff brainbuster.
There wasn't a lot of selling or story telling, but they were stiff and worked real fast here which I liked.
5*Star Grand Prix Match - Blue Stars - Saya Kamitani vs Natsupoi
They go face to face to start. Poi steps on her foot and they do some fast paced countering. Poi dropkicks her then tries to crossbody her from the top outside, but gets a ring attendant instead. Poi goes up top again and crossbodies her for 2. Poi bites her head and dropkicks her over the middle rope. Poi then dropkicks her through the ropes. Saya dropkicks her out of the ring then springboard crossbodies her outside.
Saya slingshot splashes her and they trade forearms. They trade more forearms. Poi spin kicks her hard in the gut and running blockbusters her. She then spinning neckbreakers her for 2. Poi gets her cartwheel splash from the top blocked by Saya's knees. Poi slides under her and gets double stomped then Saya top rope dropkicks her. Saya northern nights suplexes her. Poi comes back with a stiff release german and a cartwheel roll-up. Saya rolls her up back in return and Poi hits a superkick and a missed spin kick.
Poi gets on her shoulders and tries to roll her up but Saya backdrops her out of it for 2. Saya ki krusher's her and then 450's her for the win.
Not so much story here and they probably did do a little too much but this was fast paced, stiff and aggressive. I thought this was a fun match and a good example of some of the good things about joshi.
Poi grabs Saya by the hair after and slaps her. Saya wants a fist bump after for some reason and Poi slaps the hand.
5*Star Grand Prix Match - Red Stars - MAIKA vs Saki Kashima
Saki pulls her down backwards to start and Maika shoulders her over. Saki hurricanrana's her out and they fight in the crowd. Maika gets running kicked by Momo in full view of the ref then Saki stands on her outside. Saki bangs Maika's head off the apron then sits on her and pulls her head. Saki 2nd rope stomps her for 2.
Saki footslaps her and Maika powerslams her for 2. Maika then running corner lariats her and shoulders her over. Maika delay suplexes her and lariats her. Maika then grounder sleepers her. Saki chest kicks her then buzzsaw kicks her.
Maika superplexes her then does a stiff spinning lariat. Maika rolls her off her shoulder into a side slam then Saki rolls her up for the pin off a slam attempt.
Not great or anything but it was acceptable minus the obvious interference that the ref ignored.
Overall thoughts: Everything was fast paced and compact here. Most of the matches were at least decent and overall, it was a pretty solid show like most of these GP shows have been.
