New Japan Pro Wrestling 8/9/2022 G1 Climax 32 Day 14

New Japan Pro Wrestling 8/9/2022 G1 Climax 32 Day 14

I'm just doing the G1 matches:

G1 Climax 32 Block B Match - Chase Owens vs SANADA

They goof around some to start and roll through armdrags. They then do a stand off after more counters. Chase wants a handshake and tries to kick Sanada off of it. Chase sunset flips Sanada and Sanada rolls him into a paradise lock. Sanada dropkicks him out of it then gets neckbreakered over the middle rope. Chase takes control for a bit and misses an elbow. Sanada does some leapfrogs, dropkicks him then plancha's him outside.

They mess up something and Chase crossfaces him. Sanada goes up top and takes a snapmare from up there then a running knee for 2. Sanada back flips off the 2nd rope, gets caught and takes a snake eyes. Sanada goes for a back roll into a pin attempt and Chase dragon sleepers him. Chase then misses a 2nd rope moonsault. Sanada goes for a 2nd rope moonsault but Chase gets his knees up.

Sanada takes some knees and reverses a tiger drive with a hurricanrana. Sanada pops him up with a cutter then moonsaults him from the buckles for 2. Sanada then grounded dragon sleepers him and Sanada somehow wins even with Chase's legs being under the ropes.

They tried here. Chase gave a lot more effort than usual and copied a lot of Sanada's moves. I didn't like the finish as it should have been broken up due to Chase's foot being under the rope.

G1 Climax 32 Block B Match - Taichi vs Tama Tonga

They goof around early and try to cheat. Taichi footchokes him in the corner. Taichi throws him in the rails and chokes him with a wire. Taichi hits a side kick then hits more kicks. Taichi facekicks him then is lariated over. Tama begins is comeback with lariats and a slam, then backdrops him. Tama misses a splash in the corner and then takes a kick to the face. Taichi hits another kick to the face at 10 minutes. Taichi pulls his pants off and grabs the iron fingers weapon that Iizuka used to use. Tama then side finlay rolls him and top rope splashes him for 2.

Tama goes for the iron fingers. Jado tries to tell him to use it. He dramatically opts not to, gets stopped on a jumping stunner and is rolled up. Taichi backdrops him for 2. Taichi superkicks him then Tama comes back with a spinning neckbreaker. They lariat each other at the same time and Tama dropkicks him. Taichi lariats him then Tama hits a jumping stunner to win at about 17 minutes or so.

Little of interest happened in the first half and it went down at a very slow and plodding pace. They picked it up around 12 minutes but, I was checked out of this one by then.

G1 Climax 32 Block A Match - JONAH vs Lance Archer

They mention the height difference early which they shouldn't have. They trade forearms then chops. They go ont otheir knees and trade forearms then Jonah ddt's him. Jonah then headbutts him and back sentons him. Archer goes down to a knee off a forearm then goes behind him while running the ropes and lariats him in the back of the neck. Lance hits running back elbows and a splash.

Lance does his weird 180 vader bomb. Jonah slams him but misses a senton then Lance misses a senton. They trade forearms on their knees. Lance facekicks him then hits a funny looking spinning uranage slam. Lance tries to pounce him but Jonah rebounds off the ropes and body blocks him. Jonah hits a big lariat then powerbombs him. Jonah goes up top and Lance runs up the buckles for a pumping knee. Jonah then running shoulders him off the apron to Lance on the floor. Lance tries to cannonball Jonah against the rails outside but Bad Dude Tito gets in the way to save Jonah some from taking the full brunt. They fight outside, Jonah is knocked off the apron and counted out.

It was a decent hoss match with some of the things you would expect and want. They didn't get to go all out though or have a full main event style match, but they did okay with the time they had.

G1 Climax 32 Block C Match - Tetsuya Naito vs KENTA

Kenta is thrown out early then Naito poses. They go outside and Kenta is sent into the rails. Kenta hits Naito with a hammer/mic on the outside then sends him into the rails. Naito then gets stuck over the middle rope and takes a knee drop. Naito is then thrown into the exposed corner. Kenta back elbows him and headlocks him. Kenta then does some footslaps and takes a spinning neckbreaker.

Naito does his slingshot dropkick then puts his legs behind Kenta's neck and pulls on the ground. Kenta powerslams him then 2nd rope shoulders him. Kenta stf's him then implant ddt's him. Naito then tornado ddt's him. Naito pop-up spinebusters him then takes a bridged ddt over the top rope.

Kenta baisaku knee kicks Naito in the corner then dropkicks him in the corner. Kenta hits a top rope double stomp. Naito neckbreakers him over the knee on a 2nd rope bridge Naito then 2nd rope diamond dusts him. Kenta hits a busaiku knee and gets his go to sleep reversed into a reverse ddt. They trade forearms and Kenta hits a bunch of slaps. Naito flying forearms him then is sent into the exposed buckle. Kenta then busaiku knees him and busts him open. Naito then northern lights bombs him and hits destino for the win.

The goofing around outside didn't get things off to a great start. The match did get better and it was solid overall, but it would have been nice if they picked up the pace a little.

Overall thoughts: Not a bad night at the G1. Could have been better but there something to like in each match. The main and semi main were both decent matches and helped things.
