AEW Dynamite 7/13/2022

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2022/07/aew-dynamite-762022.html

AEW TNT Title - Wardlow (c) vs Orange Cassidy

I don't like this one as both are faces and Wardlow shouldn't be with comedy guys unless he is destroying them.

OC starts off with his stupid pockets routine and Wardlow pulls the pockets out and rips them off. OC then pulls Wardlow's straps up. Wardlow blocks his satellitle ddt then Wardlow cartwheels out of  headscissors. Chuck Taylor throws a chainsaw in the ring and the ref kicks him and Trent out. OC tries to tope him and OC tries to put Wardlow into the post but he stops himself. Wrdlow grabs Danhausen from under the ring and Dan pretends to curse him then walks off. OC hits an orange punch then is caught and belly to belly suplexed.

We went to PiP break and return. OC is banging Wardlows head off the buckles. OC chop blocks Wardlow then turns a powerbomb attempt into a ddt. He then ddt's him again then Wardlow hits an F-5 that Oc kicks out of. OC hurricanrana's him then topes him outside. OC hits a stunner out of a suplex attempt, then hits an orange punch and a beach break. OC then jumps at him and Wardlow powerbombs him to win.

This was awful. One of the worst things AEW has ever booked. Wardlow is supposed to basically be this unstoppable monster and he got jerked around by a comedy wrestler. OC made him look like a total idiot and it killed whatever tough guy vibes they were going for with him. This was so bad.

They bump fists after to further bury Wardlow.

We see clips of Pac defending his All-Atlantic title vs Shota Umino in another promotion. Umino hasn't won an AEW match. Why would you have Pac's first defense on this new and important title on a different promotion's show against a guy who is a nobody in AEW and in a match with no build? Makes no sense whatsoever and is a way to bury a title right from the start.

Chris Jericho came out. He said Eddie is confused and says being friends with Eddie Kingston is the worst curse. Jericho talked about things he did to Eddie's friends. He then talked about Ruby Riot and talked about how they destroyed her hand. Chris asked Eddie how many barbed wire matches he had and called him a mark for Sabu and Onita. Jericho said he won the first ever barbed wire match in Canada. He said this is the final fight between them and says Eddie can go back in his hole with mental issues, drugs and drinking. He told Eddie if he wants blood, he got it. He said Eddie isn't a liar, but a loser.

Eddie Kingston does a promo with Ortiz and Ruby Riot. Ruby's hand is in a cast and Eddie says he's going to pay. He said he will hurt him and enjoy it. Eddie was unintentionally funny here with his face all up in the camera.

AEW Interim World Title Eliminator - Jon Moxley (c) vs Konosuke Takeshita

I'm not sure that eliminator is the right word for this one. Takeshita got little reaction for his entrance. They shoulder battle to start here and Mox hits a headlock takeover. KT then leg lariats him and they trade chops. Mox lariats him then piledrivers him. They trade forearms on the apron then KT germans him on the apron. Mox immediately recovers to trade forearms with him and facekicks him out. The camera catches KT gigging himself.

We go to break and return and Mox half nelson suplexes him. KT is bleeding then KT does a flying lariat. KT brainbusters him and Mox gets his knees up on a KT frogsplash. Mox armbars him and KT hurricanrana's him. KT then tope con hilos him. KT then hits a frogsplash for 2. They trade forearms and lariat battle. KT then blue thunder bombs him. Mox then paradigm shift ddt's him and hits an elbow flurry. KT germans him for 2. Mox hits a high angle paradigm shift and submits him with a bulldog choke.

I thought they did too much here and the blood really wasn't necessary for this. It was okay otherwise, but nothing super special.

The House of Black did a promo this time on Darby. Brody said he was getting his by taking from Darby. It was the usual nonsense HoB promo and the announcers brought up Brody attacking Darby at a signing after.

Christian did a promo on the Varsity Blondes. He said Pillman's father was average and said his dad would be ashamed that he was the last thing Brian gave to the wrestling industry. We then got a photo of Griff up on the tron where he was in front of a jungle background and Christian asked if he looked like JB.

Luchasaurus vs Griff Garrison

Griff is flipped in air into a german. Lucha kicks him outside then chokeslams him. Christian calls for another and Lucha chokeslams him again. Lucha then did a Jungle boy inspired STF move called "the tar pit" and won it in an easy squash.

Griff is thrown outside after. Pillman tried to save him but Lucha headbutts him then chokeslams Griff onto him on a table. Lucha then does it again and sends him through it.

We cut to the back with 2.0 and Garcia being interviewed by Tony. They want to know about the shark cage match and aren't happy about that, feeling it is unfair. Garcia then accuses Yuta of wanting to be him and challenges him for the ROH Pure Title at their PPV.

Adam Page is interviewed wearing a goofy headband with his hair tied up and a tye-dye shirt, looking really suspect. The Dark Order then come in after Page says he is disappointed by getting eliminated by Brody King at Royal Rampage. The Dark Order challenges the House of Black and Page seems to let them make the challenge but won't be joining them.

Jake Hager vs Claudio Castagnoli

CC running euros him then CC kicks Jake out of the ring. Jake lariats him on the floor. Back in and CC hits a 619 and they trade shots in the corner. CC dropkicks him in the knee and bulldogs him as he is on his knees. CC bangs Jake's head off the buckle. CC is crotched on the top rope then slammed. Jake hits gut punches and throws him, then hits a vader bomb for 2.

We go to PiP break and return with Jake hitting a crackerjack suplex. CC hits his springboard twisting euro. CC hits some running euros then hits a nice dropkick. CC then running euros him against the rail outside. CC then hits a top rope crossbody for 2. CC giant swings Jake. CC has a sharpshooter on then Parker and Menard run down. Jake uranage's CC for 2.

CC backdrops Jake and nails Parker on the apron. He pop-up cutters Jake then straight jacket ligerbombs him for the win.

It wasn't a classic or anything. It wasn't bad but also not particularly special.

Hook is interviewed. They mention his undefeated record and ask if a title shot is in his future. He walks away without replying.

Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm are interviewed. Tony calls Miyu Yamashita, "Tamashita". Rosa said she was sad she didn't get the win against Miyu and said Miyu is coming here for a match. Rosa said her and Storm will take on anyone. Britt and Jamie Hayter then walk in. They said they know how to handle a thunderstorm (the team name of Rosa/Storm). They bring in sandbag and say try carrying her for a month then Rosa said she can't wait to bury them with it. This was terrible with shoot terms being used and Tony messing up a name.

Serena Deeb vs Anna Jay

Deeb goes for the pin early and shoulders her over. Anna blocks a hiptoss and armdrags her, then flatliners her. Anna then hits a running blockbuster. Deeb puts her in the 3 handed moss covered family gradunza and Anna tries to pin her out of it. Deeb drops her neck over the top rope then hits a twisting neckbreaker for 2.

We go to PiP break and return with Anna hitting forearms. She hits some back elbows then flying forearms her. Anna northern lights suplexes her then Deeb spins her around in the backslide position and Anna back body drops her. Deen puts her in a neat hold and Anna hook kicks her as she is on her knees. Deeb dragon screws her and Deeb wins it with a tequila sunrise.

This was anything special.

Deeb refuses to take the hold off then Mercedes Martinez comes down and breaks it up.

The Baddies are interviewed. They say they aren't worried about anything and Jade tells Leila Grey to fetch her water. Stokeley says just to trust him and says they are watching Athena on Rampage. Kiera tells Leila that she will never be a baddie.

Lethal, Dutt and Singh come out as they hype the ROH PPV. Lethal says he will take Joe's TV Title at it and says he will embarass Joe.

They are checking on Anna Jay then Tay Conti comes in. She says poor Anna. Anna says at least she didn't slam Ruby's hand in a car door, then Tay says she should have. Tay says she likes her but she needs to make better choices for her career.

AEW Tag Titles - The Young Bucks vs Swerve Strickland and Keith Lee vs Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs

One of the Bucks hits a walk up the ropes corkscrew armdrag. Swerve does a weird flip on the ropes then Swerve and Nick try to dropkick each other a the same time outside. Nick armdrags him then Nick and Ricky Starks walk the top rope at the same time. They then slap each other and both get crotched. Matt hit his stupid locomotion northern lights suplexes on Stark, then did a double with Swerve. Nick then tries it on Lee and gets double suplexed by Lee and Hobbs.

Lee gets pushed into the buckles and knocks Swerve off. Swerve gets ripped into a Starks dropkick. We go to PiP break and return. Swerve is double hiptossed and the Bucks try to backflip and dropkick him but Swerve kips up and dropkicks them. Lee shoulders over The Bucks then splashes them and Starks. Lee then throws Starks into The Bucks. Nick tries a tope con hilo over his brother onto Lee, but Lee catches him.

Hobbs and Lee shoulder battle then crossbody each other at the same time. Hobbs frogsplashes Lee. Starks runs up the ropes with Nick on Hobbs' shoulders and Starks springboard cutters him. Swerve lariats Matt then Lee takes superkicks. Lee then takes a triple superkick from The Bucks and Starks. They pose together then the Bucks superkick him, then Lee. Matt low blows Swerve then hits people with the title belt. Swerve takes a BTE trigger for 2.

Nick goes for a Meltzer Driver and Lee catches him in the air. Mat then takes a power bombo + M. Bison stomp combo for 2. Hobbs spinebusters Lee then spinebusters Swerve, Nick and Matt onto him. Starks spears Swerve. Lee hit the Bucks with their shoe then belly to belly suplexed Hobbs over the top to the floor. Swerve then did a double jump moonsault to the outside off of Hobbs. Lee pounces Starks then tope con hilos on people outside. Swerve then does a top rope footstomp on Starks and wins it in a surprise.

You know the deal with these. They are spotfests with people coming and out constantly. That's what happened here. They did do some impressive spots and kept the pace up and because of so many people being involved, someone could take some big moves then be able to get out and not worry about the selling.

Overall thoughts: The Wardlow/OC match was one of the worst things AEW has ever done. The rest of the show was okay though.
