Tokyo Joshi Pro Wrestling 7/9/2022 Summer Sun Princess '22

Here's what I saw:

Moka Miyamoto vs Juria Nagano

Juria kicks her early and front kicks her. Moka counters with a straight gut punch and hits chest clubs in the corner. Moka then hits a bad slam for 2. Moka hits another gut punch and does a chop to the gut for 2. Juria up kicks her from the mat. Moka blocks her chop and punches her, then Juria does the same to her. They karate chop each other in the neck in a cool spot and Moka hits a lfurry of them. Moka then neckbreakers her for 2.

Juria hits a gut punch then backfists her and high kicks her.  Juria his another strike combo and Moka comes back with a leg lariat. Moka flips her over her back  then does a grounded cobra clutch and wins it.

This was short but really entertaining with the karate sequences and chops. Just something totally different than what you normally see and it was pretty cool. I enjoyed this.

International Princess Title - Maki Ito (c) vs Alex Windsor

Alex's ring gear got lost and she has other stuff on. Alex gets slapped early and they trade chest forearms. Ito back elbows her then shoulders her down. Alex kips up and hits some shots on her. Alex then whips her hard into the buckles and shoulders her over. Alex stands on her back and pretends to surf then pulls her by the arm and leg. Alex then hits some sliding dropkicks then takes a hard neckbreaker on the knee.

Maki then does her falling headbutt and hits a corner punch flurry. Maki has her tornado ddt blocked then Alex suplexes her out of it. The trade forearms on the mat then stand up and do it. Maki hits a satellite ddt and goes for more corner punches but has to hurricanrana out of Alex's powerbomb attempt. Alex then hits a spinning sideslam for 2.

Maki uses the ropes for a tornado ddt on her. They fight up top and Maki headbutts her then does a ddt for 2. Maki misses a top rope headbutt then takes a shining wizard for 2. Maki goes for a hurricanrana but takes a sitout powerbomb for 2. Maki gives her the finger then takes another powerbomb. Alex then hits a wrist-clutch fisherman's driver and wins it.

I thought it was okay. They matched up okay together and Maki took some high impact moves here. Maki's top rope ddt was also pretty wild, though it was totally safe. They only had a little over 10 minutes here which limited this.

Miyu Yamashita vs Thunder Rosa

Rosa is the AEW women's champ here but the belt isn't on the line. Rosa drop toe holds her and they reverse each other on the mat. Rosa hits a chop off the break then armdrags her. Rosa takes a bump for no reason on a missed armdrag and they have a sloppy sequence. Miyu armdrags her and they stare down. Rosa drops down and slaps her then Rosa sliding lariats her for 2.

They trade kicks to the back and Rosa slams her. Rosa hits a flurry of elbows to her neck/chest area for 2. Miyu snapmares her and kick combos her while Rosa is seated.Miyu hits another kick combo in the corner. Miyu lifts her by the gut and is headscissored out of the ring, then Rosa dropkicks her through the ropes.

Rosa backdrops Miyu on the apron then Miyu running knees her from here while she is on the floor. Miyu takes her down with a cobra clutch and Rosa ropebreaks. Miyu spinkicks her and takes a stunner. Rosa flying clotheslines her in the corner and pendulum knees her then Rosa dropkicks her against the ropes. Rosa then hits a northern lights suplex for 2.

They trade chest forearms and then flurry each other with them. Rosa then casadora's her into a double stomp for 2. Miyu high kicks Rosa. Miyu hits another one and rosa grabs her leg after the fact and takes her down. Miyu messes up a high kick and Rosa death valley drivers her for 2. Miyu hits a spinning roundhouse kick to the head and Rosa gets the ropes at 2. Rosa tries to block a german but can't. Rosa then rolls her up and Miyu reverses it to win.

They tried, but Rosa's not that good and they had both had their fair share of sloppy moments here. The finishing stretch wasn't too good either.

Rosa holds up the belt after, implying she wants to give her a title match and they shake hands.

Princess Tag Team Title Match - Magical Sugar Rabbits (Mizuki & Yuka Sakazaki) (c) vs. Saki Akai & Yuki Arai

Yuka fireman's carries Yuki down. Mizuki wants a test of strength with Saki, but she is too tall, so Mizuki knee kicks her. Mizuki gets tripped into a kick to the face on the apron then takes a double boot from Yuki and Saki. Saki then headscissors Yuka but Yuka bites her leg. Yuki slams Mizuki and Mizuki crossbodies Saki as she is on the apron during some botched spot.

Yuka and Mizuki go up top and crossbody their opponents outside. Yuka hits slams on Yuki then slams her own partner onto Yuki. Yuka and Yuki trade forearms then Yuka drops her with a spinning forearm. Yuka then suplexes Yuki for 2. Yuka sleepers Yuki then Yuka and Saki trade forearms. Saki puts Yuka in a sleeper then Saki rolls her into a leg hold. Saki gets put in the ropes then Yuka hanging headscissor chokes her. Yuka then springboard dropkicks her for 2.

They both go up to the 2nd rope and Saki STO's her up there. Yuka then hits a northern lights bomb. Yuki and Mizuki get in and Yuki dropkicks and facekicks her. Yuki then pump kicks her. Yuki and Mizuki trade forearms and Mizuki drops her with one. Mizuki then double stomps Yuki's back and does a nice dropkick on her through the ropes. Yuki then lays on the apron stomach first and Mizuki double stomps her from the 2nd rope.

Mizuki sits on the top rope and Yuki facekicks her to the floor. Saki then running apron kicks Mizuki. Yuki full nelson slams Mizuki then Mizuki takes a double running facekick. Saki triangles Mizuki. Saki goes for a suplex on Yuka but Mizuki climbs up their backs and we have some messed up sunset flip spot. Mizuki then double stomps both opponents stacked up on each other.

Mizuki and Yuka top rope tandem crossbody their opponents. Yuka and Mizuki climb the 2nd rope together and get caught and brought down. Mizuki gets suplexed onto her own partner. Mizuki suplexes Saki. Saki does an abdominal stretch flip bomb on her then Saki/Yuki double shotgun dropkick Mizuki to win it.

The girls tried here, they did put out extra effort and they did to big stuff for this, but I wasn't a fan. It went too long and there was a lot of sloppiness and botching.

Princess of Princess Title - Shoko Nakajima (c) vs Rika Tatsumi

They do some wrestling to start, then Rika takes headlock takedown and Shoko is headscissored and they stare down. Shoko armdrags her and dropkicks her. Shoko is thrown into the buckles and flips out then Shoko gets crotched on the top. Rika then elbows her with a pose for 2. Rika stands on her stomach on the apron then Rika running hip attacks her knees against the apron on the outside. Shoko then takes a hard shot into the post.

Rika throws her in then Shoko topes her. Shoko then tope con hilos her and someone else outside. Shoko then slingshot sentons her for 2. Shoko catapults her neck into the bottom rope then running blockbusters her. Shoko headscissors her and bangs her head off the mat with it. They mess up some spot where Shoko does a moonsault for no reason and Shoko dropkicks her. Shoko holds her knee after then Rika dropkicks it and dragon screws it.

Rika hip attacks her face and figure fours her. Rika then bangs her leg off the post and dropkicks it against the post. Shoko flying forearms her. Shoko then top rope dropkicks her for 2. Rika evades and blocks Shoko's 619 then dragon screws and figure fours her. Shoko then does weird double underhook through and is backdropped. Rika hip attacks her then hits a twist of fate for 2. Rika goes for a top rope hip attack but is rolled up off of it then Rika powerbombs her. Rika then jumps up to the top rope and hip attacks her down on the floor in a cool spot.

Rika gets stuck on the top rope and takes a frankensteiner down. They trade chest forearms and Shoko hits a northern lights suplex and a 619. Rika hits a deep dragon sleeper on her. Shoko flips out of it and ddt's her. Shoko then rope sentons her and wins it.

They put out a good effort, but the match had holes in it. The submission work ended up meaning nothing and went nowhere. I liked the hip attack to the floor here and they really did show a lot of aggression and energy that they normally don't do.

Shoko told Rika she'd like to face her again down the road for the title.

Overall thoughts: I was told this was a fantastic show coming into it with multiple strong matches. I didn't find that to be accurate. The girls tried here and did their best to show-up on the big stage, but the matches were pretty sloppy for the most part. They just didn't meet the hype they were given and I wasn't a huge fan of this. The ingredients were there, but the final dish didn't taste that great. I thought they also could have done more with the entrances and such to make this feel like a bigger show.
