New Japan Pro Wrestling 7/24/2022 G1 Climax 32 Day 5

New Japan Pro Wrestling 7/24/2022 G1 Climax 32 Day 5

I'm just doing the G1 matches here.

G1 Climax 32 Block D Match - El Phantasmo vs Yujiro Takahashi

They each try to get the other one to lay down and lose for them. ELP agrees but makes Yujior's valet be in his corner. ELP then goes to lay down and quickly rolls over Yujiro when he tries to pin him. ELP hangs him in tree of woe and stomps him and baseball slides him. ELP then rolls from the buckles into a dropkick on him. They go outside and ELP 2nd rope moonsaults him outside. ELP then springboard swantons him on the inside.

Yujiro takes control on the outside and ddt's him. ELP barely beats the count in and is pounded on upon his return to the ring. ELP dropkicks him and they are both out. ELP drops an elbow off the 2nd rope then takes a reverse ddt. Yujiro fisherman busters him. ELP hits a twisting crossbody off the 2nd rope then a 2nd rope moonsault for 2.

ELP brainbusters him for 2 and does a sitout powerbomb for 2. ELP then spinning torture rack bombs him for 2. Yujiro pops up right after and olympic slams him for 2. Yujiro then does a reverse F-U for 2 and ddt's him for another 2. ELP superkicks Yujiro.

Sho gets on the apron. ELP goes after him and Yujiro is thrown a weapon. Yujiro misses the weapon shot then ELP pretends Yujiro hit him with the weapon while the ref isn't looking. ELP punches him in the nuts during this thne superkicks him and topes Sho outside. ELP then top rope splashes him to win.

I hated this. It went on forever, Yujiro kicked out of too much and they had the usual shenanigans with interference and weapons.

G1 Climax 32 Block B Match - SANADA vs Taichi

They goof around early by flexing muscles. Taichi knees him in the gut. Sanada back elbows and standing moonsaults him. Sanada atomic drops him then planchas him outside. Taichi enzugiri's him in the corner then Sanada dropkicks him.

Sanada jumping spinkicks him and dragon sleepers him. Sanada comes off the 2nd rope and gets chokeslammed on his way down. Taichi enzugiri's him then Sanada running forearms and tiger suplexes him. Taichi then backdropped him.

They went up top and Sanada flipped out of his 2nd rope chokeslam and rolled him up for 2. Sanada hit a TKO then grounded dragon sleepered him. Sanada lets go and takes knees on his top rope moonsault attempt. Taichi rolls him up for 2. Taichi then hits a big forearm on him. Tacihi hits a stiff Kawada style kick to his face and enzugiri's him. Sanada then rolls him up and wins it.

I wasn't a fan of this one. There was just not a lot of selling and it was kind of herky jerky with them stopping then rushing into sequences again.

G1 Climax 32 Block A Match - Jeff Cobb vs Bad Luck Fale

Fale slaps him in the back of the head early then hits some forearms. Fale misses a splash and takes a clean lariat over the top. Cobbs goes on the apron, is swept and lariated. Fale then stands on his back.

They trade punches then Fale hits some back clubs. Fale then stands on Cobb's back and does his surfing taunt. They trade more punches and Cobbs hits a nice dropkick on him. Fale then elbow drops his back for 2 and splashes him.

Fale splashes his back in the corner and Cobb avoids his razor's edge before superkicking him. Cobb then hits an impressive suplex. Cobb gives him a tour of the islands slam and wins it.

This was a short one but it should have been. It wasn't great but they worked like bigger guys, it made sense and it was decent.

G1 Climax 32 Block C Match - Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Tetsuya Naito

They do some mat wrestling to start. Naito grabs him by the hair early and takes forearms and a euro for it. Tana 2nd rope twisting crossbodies him then does Naito's pose. Naito tries to throw him over the top but Tana hangs on and Naito had to knock him off it. Naito then sends him into the rails outside.

They barely beat the count in (and realistically, probably didn't) then Naito crucifixes his arms with his legs inside. Naito neckbreakers Tana then bridging neckbreakers him off the 2nd rope. Naito hits some kicks and Tana fires up and slaps him. Tana  dragon screws him. Tana goes up to the 2nd rope and instead of doing his flipping senton, he just drops down right on Naito's knee.

Naito atomic drops him and hurts his knee then does his slingshot swinging dropkick in the corner anyway.  Naito then diamond dusts him and hits his gloria drop for 2. Naito koji clutches him then Tana ropebreaks. Naito slaps him in the head then hits some back elbows. Naito hurricanrana's him off the top then Tana germans him. Naito hits a spinebuster then takes a dragon screw.

They trade forearms for a while then Naito step up eznugiri's him. Tana hits some twists and shouts then some slingblades for 2. Tana top rope crossbodies him and misses a frogsplash. Naito then rolls him for 2. They trade slaps  and Naito flying forearms him. Naito then brainbusters him and Tana rolls him up out of nowhere to win.

This was okay with the usual Tanahashi style. It was a decent main event but far from a classic and really isn't something anyone is going to remember. They didn't do anything too special and they really didn't even go for some kind of epic with big moves or some large story.

Overall thoughts: The main was decent to good and the semi-main was short but decent. I wasn't a fan of the other two G1 matches though and thought ELP/Yujiro was not good at all.
