New Japan Pro Wrestling 7/5/2022 New Japan Road 2022 Day 8

I saw 5 of the matches here.

Tenkoji vs Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma

Koji and Togi shoulder battle with Togi winning. Honma hits some nice forearms on Koji then Koji shoulders him over. Tenkoji touble team Honma with mongolian chops. They then hit a sling elbow and running dropping headbutt combo on Honma. Koji beats up on Honma in the corner.

Tenzan suplexes Honma then Honma hits mongolian chops on Tenzan before hitting a ddt. Togi hits corner punches on Tenzan then Tenzan comes back with mongolian chops. Togi lariats him then they lariat each other at the same time. Tenzan back body drops him then Koji and Honma shoulder battle. Honma criss crosses him and shoulders him over.

Honma back elbows Koji then bulldogs him but misses his falling headbutt. Koji machine gun chops Honma then top rope elbows him for 2. Honma ddt's Kojima. Koji takes a sandwich lariat from his opponents then Honma headbutts him. Kojima cutters Honma then Togi takes a 3D. Honma headbutts Koji and they collide with lariats with Honma dropping down due to Koji's. Honma misses a jumping headbutt then Koji lariats him for the win.

Went a little longer than it needed to, but it was kind of a fun little legends match.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Jado and KUSHIDA vs Bullet Club (Gedo, KENTA and Taiji Ishimori)

The faces attack after intros and everyone goes outside as usual. Kenta is put into the post by Tana then Jado chops Gedo. The heels take over and beat up Jado. Gedo chokes Jado over the ropes. Kenta then beats up on Jado then Gedo continues the beatdown. Jado tries to hulk up then Jado shoulders him over.

Kushida gets the hot tag in. He top rope chops Taiji then bicycle kicks him. Kushida then hiptosses him into a dropkick. Kushida whips Taiji into the ropes and he comes back with a handspring back enzugiri. Taiji gets backdropped to the floor by Kushida, then Kushida handspring back elbows Kenta.

Tana gets in and dropkicks Kenta in the knee then Kenta chest kicks him. Tana dragon screws him then Gedo gets in and chinbreakers then superkicks him. Gedo gets brass knucks and them. Kushida gets in and handsprings Taiji off the apron then Tana slingblades Gedo. Tana then taps out Gedo with the texas cloverleaf.

There wasn't anything wrong with this one. It was just a simple match to build up some of their singles matches. The heels were heels and the faces made their comeback to win.

Suzuki-gun (El Desperado, Minoru Suzuki, Taichi, TAKA Michinoku & Yoshinobu Kanemaru) vs. Los Ingobernables de Japon (BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, SANADA, Shingo Takagi & Tetsuya Naito)

Sanada and Taichi stall and goof around to start then tag out without doing anything. Kanemaru kicks Hiromu in the knee then dropkicks him in it. Hiromu puts Kanemaru on Despy's shoulders and Kanemaru headscissors him. Hiromu then shotgun dropkicks Kanemaru.

Naito gets in and sliding dropkicks Kanemaru. Naito then flying forearms him and Bushi neckbreakers Kanemaru. Suzuki facekicks Bushi on the apron and we get a big brawl outside with everyone pairing off. Suzuki picks on Bushi on the apron and leglocks him off of it while Despy steps on Bushi. They trade shots and Bushi gets his hurricanrana reversed with an ankle lock.

Shingo running lariats then forearm flurries Suzuki in the corner. The two trade forearms then Suzuki sleepers him. Suzuki gets backdropped by Shingo then Shingo suplexes him. Sanada and Taichi trade shots. Sanada hits a nice dropkick on him then Taichi sidekicks him. They trade spinkicks then Sanada spinning forearms him. Hiromu then dropkicks him.

Taka gets in and eye pokes him then Hiromu takes a double attack from the heels. Taka puts his crossface on him and Hiromu forces him to poke himself in the eye. Hiromu then triangles him and wins it.

There were too many people in this one and not enough time for everyone to get in, so they really rushed through the end of this.

Dog Cage Match - Toru Yano vs Dick Togo

Togo eye pokes him early then fist drops him. They slap each other in the back of the head then Yano hits him with a turnbuckle pad. Togo gets thrown out. He tries to low blow Yano but is blocked then throws Yano into the rails. Yano gets the key and unlocks the dog cage. He walks around the ring looking for Togo then Togo grabs him from under the ring and stomps him.

Yano hides under the ring and Togo slaps the floor to make him think he is there then grabs Yano. Yano atomic drops him. Yano grabs Togo's nunchuks weapon and the lights go out. When they come back on, Yano is being choked with the nunchuks. Yujiro, Evil and SHO then come out to help Togo.

They all pull Yano out and try to put him in the cage but YOH, Yoshi-Hash and Goto interrupt. Yano then catapults Togo into the cage in a nice bump and wins it.

This was silly and the interference was kind of dumb. They really didn't work with the cage as much as they could have at all.

NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Title Match - House Of Torture (EVIL, SHO & Yujiro Takahashi) (c) vs. CHAOS (Hirooki Goto, YOH & YOSHI-HASHI)

This match then starts as everyone is out there already. Yoh pounds on Sho then trips him into a baseball slide. Sho takes a triple clubbing as does Yujiro and Evil. Yoh suplexes Sho then Evil ets a chair outside and nails Goto and Yoh. Goto gets put into the post then Yano does too since he's still out there and getting involved.

Yujiro forearms Yoh against the groups the legdrops him. Evil grabs onto Sho who grabs onto Yujiro and they all abdominal stretch Yoh. Sho then works on Yoh's arm. Yoh takes a 2v1 and dropkicks Sho. Yoshi gets the hot tag in and beats up on Yujiro.  Yujiro is thrown into Evil on the apron then neckbreakers him.

Yujiro bites Yoshi's hand and facekicks Goto as he is held. Evil gets in and the heels 3v1 Goto and suplex him. Goto has Evil for a russian legsweep then Yoshi blockbusters him while he is in it. Yoh then plancha's Sho outside. Evil pushes Goto into the ref and lowblows him.

Evil does a fireman's carry sitout slam on Goto. Yujiro reverse ddt's Yoshi then Goto spinning lariats Yurio and fireman's carry neckbreakers Evil over his knee. Yoh flying forearms Sho then bites his finger. Sho puts the ref in the way of Yoh then Yoh backflips into a neckbreaker. Yoh then falcon arrows Sho.

Sho germans Yoh then Yoh hits a big clothesline on him. Yoh germans Sho then Evil and Yujiro get lariated over the top at the same time. Yoh superkicks Sho and Togo chokes out Yano with his nunchuks outside. Yujiro canes Yoh. HoT puts Goto, Yoshi and Yano in the dog cage outside. Yoh takes a magic killer and the faces somehow get out of the dog cage due to Yano having a key.

Togo, Evil and Yujiro are then thrown into the dog cage. Sho is on Goto's shoulders then the three faces flip him into a neckbreaker over Yoh's knee. Sho then takes a triple butterfly suplex and is pinned.

There probably should have been a DQ somewhere there for outside interference and countouts probably should have happened as people were locked in the cage. If you ignore that though, it wasn't bad. A little long but the dog cage stuff was entertaining to a degree.

Overall thoughts: The main and semimain did have flaws, but there was some entertainment to be had there. I thought 4 of the 5 matches I saw were at least decent.
