AEW Dynamite 6/1/2022

CM Punk and FTR vs Max Caster and The Gunn Club
Austin takes a back elbow from Dax early then Cash trips him into a Dax elbow. Dax hits a back body drop then some dropkicks and armdrags. Punk double axe handles Max's arm from the 2nd rope then twisting crossbodies him from the 2nd buckle. Cash then slams Max off the 2nd rope and Max comes back with a backdrop.
Billy Gunn hits Dax with a cheapshot. Dax fights off the heels and goes for a hot tag but is partners are pulled down. The Gunn's double flapjack Dax as we go to PiP break. We return and Punk is making bug eyes then Dax gets out of a Max sharpshooter. Punk goes to springboard in and slips then slams everyone. He hits Austin with a neckbreaker and high kicks Max on the apron. Cash gets back body dropped onto Colten and Max outside. Punk hits a top rope elbow then BIlly Gunn gets on the apron. Punk gets distracted and rolled up.
Punk messes up a powerbomb of Austin into Billy. Punk hits a GTS on Austin then FTR hit the big rig on Colten to win.
Punk's botches really took away from this one. He botched multiple times and brought this down. There was also just too much going on here with the interference. Even JR said it was "bowling shoe ugly".
Punk gets on the mic after. He said he has a lot of work to do and says he knows he has to get better. Punk says his road to success has been littered with mistakes. Punk says you can call hmim whatever you want but you have to call him champ.
Dax then talks about doing drugs. He says his wife and kid are in the crowd and those are the only things that mean more to wrestling than him. He the ends this odd promo by telling people from other companies to come and bring it.
Punk then brings up New Japan. He asks to be shown who he is facing. Hiroshi Tanahashi then comes out. Tana points at him and Punk holds up his belt.
MJF comes out. He said this is "Max Freidman" talking. He calls out his boss and says it'd be a shame if something happened as executives are watching. He said Tony Khan now wants to work things out but it is too little too late. MJF said this was All Friends Wrestling he started but he had to write his own ticket. He said he still gets no respect despite creating a lot of moments. He said there is nothing he can't do.
He said he is the only person capable of carrying the company on his back. He said he hears booing and clapping and asked where these people were when they were calling him an unprofessional piece of crap. He said the boys in the back can have his spot because he doesn't want to be here anymore. He called all the fans "marks" and said they "don't know sh!t".
He said fans said he sucked in the ring and now pretend to say he is good. He brought up New Japan, chasing star ratings and dumping people on their heads and said is that why he is not the best? He then said he is the best in the world and doesn't have to do a bunch of stuff to get us there. He said he is a generational talent then referenced Tony Khan again and said he won't pay him. He said Tony saves all of the money he made for ex-WWE guys. He asks if Tony would treat him better if he were an ex-WWE guy. He said Tony should be behind the guard rail with all of the fans.
He said he wants Tony to fire him. Something gets bleeped and we go to commercial.
I thought this was garbage. I hate worked shoot promos and I hate kayfabe breaking. Sure, some of the points were true and it's funny to crap on Tony and AEW, but this is Russo Era WCW stuff and I hate it.
Johnny Elite vs Miro
Miro starts talking on a video. He says it has been a long time. He said he was told to help his fellow man and commit good deeds to go to the kingdom of heaven. He said he was separated from his gold and said his heart is broken. He said he wants to take God's home and says the redeemer is back.
Johnny tries some spin kicks early and takes a lariat. Miro pounds and then stomps on Johnny. Miro backdrops Johnny and we go to PiP break. We return and Miro swinging side slams him. Miro misses a pump kick and takes a high kick. Johnny then hits his spring kick and standing SSP's him for 1. Johnny then running knee's him. Johnny tries some kind of side flip off the top but Miro doesn't get out of the way in time and he lands bad. Miro then pump kicks him and camel clutches him all the way to lay on his back to win it.
Well, at least Miro won here. I didn't think it was a great match and the break cut into it. I don't like Johnny being used for jobber duty.
The JAS comes out. Parker says they dominated at Double or Nothing and tells the fans to appreciate them. Jericho calls Eddie Kingston a psycho. Jericho says sports entertainers always beat pro wrestlers when they fight then Eddie Kingston comes out with Regal. Eddie tells Regal to let them know he wants to fight them and Regal says, "Blood and Guts". Jericho question it then Eddie walks down. Jericho said he's not getting it then Eddie gets beat up by JAS. Ortiz hits Jericho with a sock filled with something then cuts off some of Jericho's hair. Jericho calls Ortiz a stupid son of a b!tch. Jericho then agrees but says he wants a hair vs hair match with Ortiz. He says he will burn him because he's a wizard. That's an interesting one. I don't know who would win that.
We see clips from Joe being interviewed after DoN. Joe gets jumped by Lethal, Dutt and Singh then his shoulder gets put in a chair and rammed into something.
Matt Hardy, Darby Allin, Jurassic Express and Christian Cage vs Red Dragon, The Young Bucks and Hikuleo
Hikuleo makes his AEW debut here. Jeff Hardy was supposed to be in there but is injured. JB runs up the buckles, flips off them and armdrags Kyle. Kyle and a Buck take double hipstosses. Christian hits corner punches Matt Jackson then tornado ddt's him. JB hurricanrana's Fish off the apron then Cage flying headbutts a Buck off the top. Everyone gets in the ring then Darby tope's Kyle outside. Luchasaurus and JB then moonsault onto opponents outside.
Christian takes a superkick from Matt Jackson the Nick Jackson hits a tope con hilo on people outside. We go to PiP break and return with Cage hitting a double reverse DDT on both Young Bucks. Lucha gets in and cleans house then double lariats Kyle and a Buck. Lucha does a back roll into a headscissors and spikes one of the Bucks who stands on his head for it. JB then jumps off of Lucha's back and canadian destroyers Matt Jackson. Lucha then standing moonsaults Nick.
Hikuleo drags Nick over and tags himself in. Him and Lucha clothesline each other in mid-air. Darby and Kyle get in and Darby unlocks on him then takes on Red Dragon in both corners. Darby then does an over the front stunner onto Kyle. Hikuleo gets the rope pulled down on him then lands on his head outside. Hikuleo then catches Darby's coffin drop. Darby takes a chasing the dragon on the floor.
Matt hits Fish's head off the buckles. Hiku takes a twist of fate and is lariated over the top. Christian spears him off the apron. The doubles superkick Matt, Lucha then JB. Red Dragon hits a high/low on Matt then JB takes a Meltzer driver and gets pinned.
It was a big multi-man match with tons of big spots and everyone getting something in. They kept it moving here but it was entertaining.
Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland are interviewed. They are with some celebs I never heard of. He was given a jacket.
Athena, aka Ember Moon, was interviewed. She called out Jade Cargill. She said she will break her streak. Jade then interrupted with her crew. Stokely Hathaway said she interrupted them at DoN. He said Jae is a queen. Kiera Hogan got in Athena's face then Anna Jay and Kris Statlander came out. It eventually got broken up before anything happened. Athena sucks and won't make it in AEW.
Wardlow vs JD Drake
JD hits some chops then takes a hard lariat. Wardlow did an up and over in the corner. He hit corner spears then spinebustered him. Wardlow then won it with 2 powerbombs in a quick squash. He then pushed JD out with his feet.
Tony Schiavone interviews Wardlow after. Mark Sterling then comes out with security. He said he is serving him a class action lawsuit via the seucrity officers for him beating them up every week. Wardlow then powerbombs one of them and he rips the papers up.
Scorpio Sky was with Lambert and Ethan Page. Lambert said all of Dante's potential just means he might someday he as good as Sky is now. Sky says he will beat him up on Rampage. Dante then comes in. He said he thinks he is better than him right now and said he will prove it on Rampage.
Jamie Hayter and Britt Baker vs Toni Storm and Ruby Soho
Tony hits corner stomps on Britt early then Britt runs out and holds up her Owen Hart title. Britt gets back in and takes a basement dropkick, then Britt is kicked by both opponents. Ruby gets tripped on the apron then takes a twisting neckbreaker on the floor. We go to PiP break and return with Ruby hitting a backslide. Ruby backdrops Britt then Toni hits a release german on Jamie. Toni tornado ddt's her then takes a bridging ddt on the floor. Ruby dives off the top onto Jamie then Britt sling blades Ruby.
Jamie takes an alabama slam. Rub comes off the top and goes into a superkick. Ruby takes a hard backbreaker over Jamie's knee then Britt butterfly suplexes Ruby. Britt swinging neckbreakers Ruby then britt takes a blade runner from her for the Ruby and Toni win.
I wasn't a big fan of this. They just did endless moves near the end without much meaning.
Jamie hits Ruby and Toni with the Owen Hart belt after then Jamie and Britt hug.
Jon Moxley vs Daniel Garcia
Mox hits a nasty orange crush on Garcia on the steps. Mox suplexes Garcia off the 2nd rope. He flurries him with elbows then Garcia does it to him. Garcia STF's Mox and Mox hits the ropes. Garcia rolls him but gets put in a pin attempt. Mox then backdrops him and Garcia slaps him. Mox then gets backdropped and Garcia piledrives him or 2. The two trade forearms. They go outside and Garcia gets on his back then is dropped backwards onto a table.
Chris Jericho comes down and Eddie grabs him. Mox hits a paradigm shift and a bulldog choke to win it as Eddie pounds on Jericho.
Mox's blood was nice here but I didn't think it was that great. I just don't see why Garcia is going even with Mox.
Mox gets on the mic after. He says to sign him up for Blood and Guts.
Overall thoughts: This was a really long episode of Dynamite. I didn't really like this. Punk's match wasn't that good, Miro's return wasn't that good and the MJF thing sucked.
