All Japan Pro Wrestling 4/13/2022 Champion Carnival 2022 Day 4

Evolution (Dan Tamura, Hikaru Sato & Suwama) vs. NEXTREAM (Atsuki Aoyagi, Rising HAYATO & Yuma Aoyagi)

 

Dan shoulders Atsuki down and they have a sloppy section before an Atsuki dropkick. They counter each other and Dan shoulders him out. Sato hits chops on Rising and Rising comes back with his own before hitting a dropkick. Rising hurricanrana's him then Sato PK's him and hits a water wheel drop. Sato then death valley drivers him for 2.

Suwama beats up on Rising and suplexes him. Suwama misses a lariat and Rising enzugiri's him and tags out. Yuma gets in and flying forearms Suwama. Yuma top rope crossbodies him for 2 then Suwama flying shoulders him. Yuma and Suwama trade forearms then Suwama lariats him. Dan gets in and shoulders Yuma in the corner then Dan tries to powerbomb him but gets double superkicked.

Rising and Atsuki hit planchas to the outside then Dan and Yuma trade forearms. Dan suplexes him then lariats him for 2. Yuma comes back with a german then a fisherman's buster for 2. Yuma then hits another fisherman's buster and wins it.

This wasn't anything special as expected. They had 10 minutes and 6 people had to get stuff in on a small house show.

Champion Carnival 2022 Block A - Ryuki Honda vs Shotaro Ashino

Honda hits some club, kicks and forearms early then Ashino comes back with euro uppercuts. Ashino hits a bunch more and the ref tries to stop him but he throws him off. They both go outside and Honda hits him with the steps. Honda back elbows him.

Ashino hits a nice overhead belly to belly then pop-up euro's him. He then hits another euro for 2. Honda lariats him then takes a big release german. They german suplex each other then Honda spears him for a close 2. Ashino then hits a stiff release german on Honda for 2 then another german for 2. Ashino then ankle locks him and wins it.

The submission finish didn't really work with the rest of the match, but I liked the rest before it. These two stiffed each other hard with some nasty germans and did not take it easy on this house show.

Champion Carnival 2022 Block A - Jake Lee vs Shigehiro Irie

Lee boots Irie in the face early then Irie bowls him over with a forearm. Irie hits more forearms. He gets sat up top and facekicked down to the floor. Lee throws him back in then Irie tries to tope him but gets a knee. Lee then knees him as his head hangs off the apron. Irie then is thrown into the post.

Lee facekicks him then Irie suplexes him. Lee hits a rare 2nd rope moonsault on him. Irie hits some headbutts to his chest and they trade forearms. Irie then cannonballs him against the ropes then sleepers him. Irie hits an elbow flurry and Lee rolls him up for a quick pin attempt.

Lee hits him with a stiff knee to the head then hits a flurry of knees to the body. Irie bites Lee's fingers then flying headbutts him. Lee then diving knees him to the back of the neck. Irie hits a flurry of headbutts on him but we don't get a good shot of it then Irie diving torpedo headbutts him for 2. Irie does another torpedo headbutt and gets knee'd in the face. Lee then backdrops him for 2. Lee then wins it with a big brainbuster.

This was a good one, mostly due to Irie. Irie really brought it here with fire and energy and was a great underdog. They had some really clever spots with Irie getting thrown in and trying to dive back out then the headbutt flurry and headbutt counter. This is the best match both men have been in for a while and really showed off what Irie can do.

Champion Carnival 2022 Block B Match - Kento Miyahara vs Takuya Nomura

Nomura rushes at him and forearm flurries him. Kento escapes a PK and runs out. Kento gets his head banged off the post. Nomura slaps him around which fires up Kento. Kento then throws him out and headbutts him. Nomura then gets DDT'd on the stage. Kento hits some knees and a headbutt then takes a nice dropkick.

Nomura forearm flurries him in the corner then rolling hammerlocks him. Nomura bangs Kento's arm over the top then Kento piledrivers him on the apron. Nomura slaps Kento and kick flurries him then they trade forearms. Kento step kicks him then takes an armbar. Nomura gets his PK blocked then Kento brainbusters him. Nomura slaps, high kicks then germans him for 2.

Nomura germans him and takes a flying pump knee. Kento hits a pump knee then goes for another but is taken down. Kento hits a jumping pump knee then Kento delay straightjacket germans him for the win.

The Nomura Carnival 2022 continued here with another good Nomura match. He brought tons of fire here and really gave his all. He absolutely looked better than Kento here and Kento was basically just along for the ride. Loved his stiff shots and flurries and you just really come out of his matches thinking he's one of the best in the world.

Overall thoughts: I saw 4 of the 6 matches. All 3 CC matches were good and the main and semi-main were pretty good.
