AEW Dynamite 1/27/2021

AEW Dynamite 1/27/2021

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/01/aew-dynamite-1202021.html

This will be a more limited review than usual. I had a long night.

Eddie Kingston vs Lance Archer

Archer kicks out Jake before they get in. Eddie's shots aren't sold and Archer hits some corner attacks. Eddie goes up top with a shoulder but Archer isn't fazed much. Then Archer criss crosses him and bounces him with a shoulder. Archer chokeslams him on the apron and he takes a brutal bump to the floor. This should stop the match, but they will keep going for sure. Archer bangs Eddie's head off the camera and throws him into the rails.

Archer hits a hard full nelson slam on him and Archer does a lot of goofy faces into the camera. Archer does a very weird 180 splash. Eddie came back and hit a sliding D for 2. Eddie takes a hard chokeslam with Archer doing more weird staring into the camera's. Archer walks the ropes with Eddie's hand in hand and then moonsaults. Archer puts the claw on him and Butcher and The Blade have Jake beaten up at the ramp. While Archer is distracted, the Bunny hands Eddie brass knucks and he uraken's Lance with them for the win. Eddie was pretty good here but dirty finishes are never fun. After the match, Archer takes a powerbomb/suplex combo then Eddie uraken's him with the brass knucks again.

Jon Moxley does a promo. He said he doesn't see The Bucks and The Good Brothers being friends for long. He said he trusts his right and left hand and talks about the upcoming Bullet Club vs Fenix, Pac and Moxley 6-man tag.

Sting does a promo with Darby Allin. He didn't like being called a hoodlum by Team Taz. Sting said Darby actually is a hoodlum. Darby talked about fighting on the streets which is hilarious and then calls Sting a hoodlum too as they break glass. Sting then agrees that he is a hoodlum in a weird promo.

The Varsity Blondes (Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison) vs Chris Jericho and MJF with The Inner Circle

Remember that rule a few weeks ago where only one person could accompany people to the ring? That's gone.

MJF asks Griff just to quit and he nails him instead. Griff hits a big kick on MJF. Jericho gets tagged in and is tripped by Griff then the Blondes hit a double team combo. Pillman Jr. hits a big lariat on Jericho and is kneed in the back when he runs the ropes. We have a picture-in-picture break where Pillman hits a top rope crossbody on Jericho. We come back and Griff gets the hot tag and lariats MJF, then hits a big back body drop on him. Griff spinning elbows Jericho and hits his usual big corner splash on both opponents. Griff then double spears both.

Pillman hits a missile dorpkick from the top on MJF then superkicks Jericho for 2. Jericho gets dropkicked off the apron and Pillman goes for something off the top and gets a judas effect then a lionsault for the win. As usual, Griff looked good and Pillman looked fine here too.

The Inner Circle poses together after and MJF and Sammy yell at each other.

Pac did a promo on Kenny. He said Kenny is a maipulative punk and tells him to bring the Good Brothers with him next week.

On the AEW Dynamite Awards earlier tonight, Shaq challenged Cody to a match and said he looks like a girl.

Cody was interviewed by Tony in the ring. Cody said Arn chewed him out for taking it easy against Peter Avalon. Arn took the mic and alked about Dusty flying home after a match to see Cody be born.

Arn brought out Red Velvet. He said both Red and Cody have fire. Red said she would stir Jade's "b*tch @ss" up and it seems like Red Velet and Cody vs Shaq and Jade is going to happen at the PPV. That's not going to be good.

Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford did a promo. They said they were excited about getting married and invited us to it. Miro said he was bringing Chuck Taylor with them.

"Hangman" Adam Page vs Ryan Nemeth

Ryan is Dolph Ziggler's brother and used to be an NXT announcer as Briley Pierce.

Page hits a big boot to the face early and the two trade chops. Page stomps on Ryan in the corner and does a springboard lariat off the 2nd rope, then dives on Ryan. Ryan hits a decent dropkick and Matt Hardy comes out. Ryan does a hammerlock with a headstand and then neckbreakers Page. Page hits some nice lariats and does a sliding lariat for 2. Ryan hits a DDT for a close 2. Hangman catches himself on a release german, then does a spinning forearm and a lriat, then the buckshot lariat for the win. Page looked pretty good here. Nemeth still has a lot of work to do.

Matt Hardy and Tony came out after. Matt said he is worried about Page. He said The Elite burned him and the Dark Order trying to make him join him made him more conflicted. Matt offered his dressing room to Page.

Dax Harwood vs Jungle Boy

Tully is handcuffed to Luchasauras outside.

They did a video package on this but it wasn't any good with JB showing no charisma. Dax has control early and JB gets back in with a dropkick. They traded some chops and Dax ended up spearing  the post. They ended up outside and Dax rammed JB's back into the barricade and we went to picture-in-picture. JB was mounting a comeback as we returned. Dax hit him with a backdrop from the top. They traded more shots then JB ducked a clothesline, but Dax hit him with one from the other side.

Dax hit a slingshot ligerbomb for 2 and JB came back with a backstabber and double german suplexes. JB dodged some punches and took a ddt. JB crossbodied him for 2. JB then tapped him with the Regal Stretch. I thought it was okay but nothing special and if this was supposed to be JB's big moment, it flopped. They kept referring to Dax as "Dax the Axe" which was cringe and forced and the AEW Dark crew in the stands kept doing bad Tarzan yells which was worse.

After the match, Luchasaurs took powder in the eyes hen was ran into the post. JB took a triple team suplex then a triple team spike piledriver. TR then handcuffed Luchasaurus to the ropes and cut off the horns on his mask. They tried to give JB a haircut but Marko Stunt and others saved him.

Britt Baker vs Shanna

Shanna is wearing Goku attire for some reason. Shanna did a headspring into a trip off a wristlock. Shanna did a step up enzugiri then went to dropkick Britt but she moved and hit nothing. Shanna got hit with a forearm from behind on the floor, then she hit a bad slingblade on the floor as we go to picture-in-picture break.

Britt kept control over the break but Shanna made a comeback when we returned. Britt did an interesting roll into a pin attempt then did a swinging neckbreaker. Britt got her latex glove on but Shanna hit a stunner. Shanna dropkicked her in the face and Britt's friend interfered then Britt hit the lockjaw for the win. This wasn't anything special and the break ate up a lot of it.

Britt did a bad curbstomp to her after and then the lockjaw again. Thunder Rosa then came down and chased Britt and her friend Reba.

MJF said Wardlow was not supposed to get involved last week and said he lessened his pay this week. Sammy didn't buy it. MJF asked Sammy if he wanted to play this way and Sammy said he wasn't playing.

Karl Anderson said it's been a few years but we have a full Bullet Club reunion. The Bucks said they don't want Callis to get involved then Kenny walked in. Callis followed and they said assaulted him.

The Bullet Club (The Young Bucks and The Good Brothers) vs The Dark Order (Stu Grayson, John Silver, Alex Reynolds and Evil Uno)

Silver calls out Gallows Silver tries to go face to face with Gallows and Gallows mocks him on his knee. Silver hits some forearms and gets an uppercut. The Bucks do flips into elbows onto Reynolds. Everyone gets a corner attack in on Reynolds and they do a 4 person inverted 3D, then do the Too Sweet sign.

Stu gets in and dropkicks Nick. Matt and him botch something and Stu release suplexes him. He does a springboard onto Gallows on the apron then does a spinning uranage and a springboard splash onto Karl. We go to picture-in-picture break as Silver takes a type of flapjack. Matt Jackson took control on Stu after.

The Order all escapes triple powerbombs on the outside and Stu does a pele kick onto Nick as we return. Silver hits a big back body drop onto Nick and then gets an attack on all of the BC members with his usual spot. Then he brainbusters Nick. Uno swings Nick's leg into the ref who catches it then neckbreakers him.

Matt double suplexes two Dark Order members then double flying clotheslines Dark Order mmebers. The Order does a million things to Matt for a 2 count. Nick then comes in with superkicks, then does a run up the ropes twisting dive on them. The BC hits triple apron powerbombs onto their opponents then they 4 person superkick Silver but its only for 2 as Uno breaks it up. The Good Brothers hit the Magic Killer then the Bucks hit a Meltzer Driver on Stu to win.

They did way too much here and they did stuff quicker than I could even type it without much selling.

Matt got on the mic after and said the winners of the tag battle royale get a shot at their belts. Matt said if they win the battle royale, they get to hand pick whoever they want to wrestle at the PPV. The neveryone does a Too Sweet and Rey Fenix comes in and dropkicks the Bucks. Moxley comes in to help and Fenix does a big flip dive onto everyone. Omega then comes in and takes a silly bump on a ddt as Fenix and Moxley pose over top of Omega to end the show.

Overall thoughts: It was fine. I'm not a huge AEW fan as some others are but there wasn't too much wrong with this one.
