Big Japan Pro Wrestling 2021 New Year 1/2/2021

Kazuki Hashimoto & Kosuke Sato vs. Kota Sekifuda & Tatsuhiko Yoshino

Sato and Kota go at it to start but both tag out. Hashimoto and Yoshino trade forearms. Hash drops Yoshino with a kick then Sato hits Yoshino with more forearms in the corner. Yoshino does a nice hiptoss on Sato and dropkicks him right in the back. Kota and Yoshino do double plancha's to the outside.

Kota does an outside to inside over the top rope footstomp to Sato and backbreaker's him. Kota then crab's him. Sato does a nice running dropkick to Yoshino and Hashimoto facewashes him. Kota hits a nice outside to inside footstomp on Hashimoto and Hash comes back with a lariat. Yoshino corner dropkicks Kota and puts him a seated guillotine choke that is broken up. Kota hits a codebreaker then holds him for a senton from Yoshino, then they do a pin combination to win at 7:27. Not bad at all here with a good pace.

Flourescent Lighttubes Death Match - Ryuji Ito, Shunma Katsumata & Yuki Ishikawa vs. Yankee Two Kenju (Isami Kodaka & Yuko Miyamoto) & Masashi Takeda

Everyone goes at it at the bell. Yuki and Takeda light tube duel and both hit each other with them.

Shunma gets thrown into the tubes on the ropes and Isami headbutts some tubes into his head, then he gets thrown into the other rope of tubes. Yuko slams a tube over Shunma's head and then Takeda stabs Shunma with scissors. Miyamoto overhead belly to belly's Shunma for 2 and Shunma lands hard on a missed second rope dropkick. Shunma gets up and throws a couple of tubes at Miyamoto. Miyamoto and Ito trade forearms and Miyamoto bounces into the ropes and comes back with an elbow.

Takeda throws tubes at Ito, who catches them, then he dropkicks them into him. He then breaks a tube in Ito's mouth. Takeda misses with a chair and Ito throws a chair at his head. Ishikawa puts chairs on Takeda then double stomps them from the second rope but ends up taking a flatliner into other chairs. Takeda then chairs a chair into his face.

Isami comes in and hurricanrana's Ishikawa into a chair from the top, then Ishikawa hits a blue thunder bomb for 2. Isami goes into a tube on the ropes, takes a high kick from Ito then takes a splash and footstomp from the top. Miyamoto hits Ito with a kick combo then double knees some lighttubes into Ishikawa's chest. Isami hits a pumping knee to Ishikawa's face then puts tubes on him. He then double knees the tubes from the top to win it in a decent deathmatch at 9:17. They kept it moving and they were able to switch people in and out to avoid some of the selling issues.

Hardcore Match - Drew Parker, Jaki Numazawa & Masaya Takahashi vs. Akira Hyodo, Hideyoshi Kamitani & Kankuro Hoshino

This is clipped and we jump into Kamitani shouldering people. Jaki gets slammed on some chairs. Kami hits a great elbow from the top onto Jaki, who is on the chairs. Then Jaki throws a chair at him as he charges in. Kami hits a big suplex for 2 then chairs Jaki in the back. Jaki chairs Kami in the head then DDT's him.

Drew puts a chair on Kami's head in the corner and does a running butt smash to him. Kami recovers though and suplexes Drew onto chairs. Drew takes John Woo dropkick into chairs in the corner by Hyodo, who then asai moonsaults him. Parker saves himself from getting thrown out of the ring.

Takahashi gets triple teamed and takes a hard shoulder by Kamitani. Hoshino does a senton from the top on Takahashi and Hyodo gets even higher with a top rope senton. Kamitani double shoulder's Drew and Jaki. Hyodo gets dropped face first and then is jackhammered for the win by Takahashi.

This went 10:43, but we maybe got half that, but what we did get wasn't too bad. Hard to judge what you didn't see though.

Abdullah Kobayashi, Kuma Arashi & Ryota Hama vs. Daichi Hashimoto, Daisuke Sekimoto & Takuho Kato

We got a nice group of guys here. A couple of fat boys, Kuma Arashi and Sekimoto. Hama is wearing a full on thong here and that is not something I ever needed to see. Hama is just way too big right now.

Kuma and Hash trade forearms. Hash does a kick combo and takes a forearm to go down. Hash then kicks Kuma in the chest and puts him down. Kato hits a nice suplex on Kuma  and then Kuma crossbodies him. Abby gets in and shining wizard's him and misses a big elbow. Abb gets triple teamed and Seki runs right into Hama and bounces. All of Sek's team gets thrown into the corner then the other team all splashes them with Hama getting the final splash in. Abby elbows Kato then Kuma senton's Abby's back and Hama splashes Abby's back for the win in a very short match at 7:33, which I don't think we even got to see all of. Hama has to go lose some weight ASAP. This had a lot of dumb spots that looked like they hurt teammates more than opponents.

BJW Death Match Heavyweight Title 2-Sided Barbed Wire Board 2-Sided Self-Board Death Match - Minoru Fujita (c) vs. Takumi Tsukamoto
藤田ミノル vs 塚本拓海

Barbed wire punches!

Fujita ties barbed wire around his head

I am not sure who this hurt more

The finish

There is a whole mess of plunder here. We have spike boards, chairs, barbed wire boards and boards with metal boxes. Fujita enters on a spike board that they wheel in.

They forearm flurry each other to start. Takumi rushes into Fujita and slams his head into the barbed wire board. Then he rubs the barbed wire on his head. Takumi does some chair shots to the head and chest then throws it at him. They both wrap their fists in barbed wire and punch each other in the head with it. Takumi puts him in a camel clutch then wraps the barbed wire around Fujita's head. Fujita puts barbed wire around his head then headbuts Takumi with it, then he topes him. Fujita then headbutts him from the apron.

Back in the ring and Takumi's head goes into the spikes.  Fujita then wraps the barbed wire around Takumi's mouth. Fujita chairs him and Takumi tries to mount a comeback. Fujita hits the ropes and gets a dropkick and Takumi throws him with a suplex. Takumi then starts grabbing his metal boxes and stacks them, but ends up getting suplexed on them. Fujita splashes Takumi with the boxes on his stomach. The metal box board is bridged across two chairs and Fujita tombstones Takumi from the top through them, but it isn't sold much.

Fujita sets up a barbed wire board bridged across chairs. The two fight up top and Fujita gets thrown through the board. Fujita hits a bunch but misses another one and takes a blue thunder bomb. Takumi superkicks him and they trade forearms. They fight in front of a spike board. Takumi Gory Special's him, then backslides him on the board and wins it in an unusual finish.

This was one of the better deathmatches they have had lately, though it wasn't particularly that great of a match. Just the standards have been so low lately that this stood out for having some kind of structure to it.

BJW Strong World Heavyweight Title Match - Yuji Okabayashi (c) vs. Yasufumi Nakanoue

中之上靖文 vs 岡林裕二

Slow start here with some headlock work. Naka hits some hard gut shots as Yuji comes off the ropes. Yuji gets thrown outside and slammed on the floor, then Naka footstomps him from the apron to the floor. Back in and Oka hits a big back body drop and clubs on the back. Then he hits some hard chops. After a boston crab, Oka does some machine gun chops and when he stops, Naka dropkicks him from the 2nd rope. Naka hits a vader bomb for 2.

They trade chops and forearms and Oka does an overhead throw by Naka's hair. Naka nearly deadlift suplexes him for 2 and puts him up in the torture rack. Oka goes for a powerslam but it gets reversed into a reverse DDT. Naka hits a nice elbow combo. He goes up top and Oka follows him with a chop. Oka tries to deadlift suplex him from up top, but almost drops him and then he gives him a sloppy superplex. They trade chops and forearms and Oka hits a super fast lariat for 2 at 15 minutes.

Oka plants him with a brainbuster for 2 and then gets german suplexed twice. They trade forearms on their knees and Oka does a rare koppo kick. He then lariats him for another 2 and Naka hurricanrana's him out of a lariat. Yuji hits a big powerslam and runs into a lariat. They each run the ropes and collide with forceful lariats then Naka drops his nasty elbow from the top rope. He then does it again but Yuji won't quit.

Naka then does a great moonsault from the top and wins it in a shocker at 19:58. This wasn't great but it had some pretty good points to it and was one of the better matches Nakanoue has had. It's hard not to like two big hosses nailing each other. There wasn't enough selling for me to call this great and they could have used more build and less moves.

Overall thoughts: I did skip one match but what we saw(there was a lot of clipping) was decent stuff top to bottom. Nothing was bad, though some of it could have been a little better.
