Next week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/05/wwe-smackdown-592025.html
We are in Des Moines, Iowa. Wade Barrett and Joe Tessitore are on commentary.
We see various wrestlers arrive. Damian Priest finds Fatu and Solo and pushes them. It gets broken up immediately. DP says he wants Fatu and his title. LA Knight walks past and heads to the ring.
LA says he deserved his US Title rematch. He complains about Jacob Fatu getting involved in his match and asks why he was able to do that. He says he has no problems with Damian Priest. Priest then comes out.
Priest says they don't have a problem and says last week was about Drew McIntyre. He said he was good with moving in from Mania but said Drew mentioned his family. He said he came here to shut him up. LA says he gets it but said he picked the wrong time - his time. He said the bell ring because of him. DP disagrees. DP said he saved him from eating a claymore kick. LA says not to put his Mania loss on him. He says don't let DP's failures be his.
DP says this whole thing is because LA lost his title at Mania. DP says LA's frustrations are his fault and if his head wasn't up his @ss at Mania, he'd still be champ. LA says he should worry about him putting his foot up DP's @ss. DP says they are fighting tonight and he doesn't see why they should wait. DP says they should do it right now.
LA Knight vs Damian Priest
This started during the break. LA yanks on DP's arm. DP uppercuts him. DP lariats him then drops him down chest first. DP jumping back elbows him then superkicks him for 2. LA backdrops DP.
LA hits punches on DP. LA flying lariats him then russian legsweeps him. LA jumping neckbreakers him for 2. LA pop-up slams him. DP blocks an elbow drop. DP rebound lariats him for 2. LA hits a double jump elbow drop for 2.
We go to PiP break and return. They fight on the buckles. DP ear claps him. DP hits a razor's edge for 2. DP hits a falcon arrow. DP is up top, LA jumps up to the top and superplexes him.
DP is lariated over the top. LA takes a flatliner on the apron. Solo Sikoa then beats up DP for the DQ.
Thoughts: It was mostly all moves with these two. It was fine but with both being faces and with a screwy finish, we were only getting so much out of this.
Solo pounds on LA after then goes for the samoan spike. DP stops Solo. LA hits a BFT on Solo. LA and DP stare down and look at Solo. DP tells LA to push Solo out as he clears off the commentary table. Fatu comes in, LA side steps him and Fatu topes DP. LA dropkicks Fatu through the ropes. Fatu samoan drops LA on the table. Fatu hip attacks DP against the rail.
Fraxiom are interviewed by Byron. NF says they are excited for tonight and said they plan on flipping the division upside down. Ax says this is the best tag division on the planet. Pretty Deadly come in. They say Fraxiom had a tasty debut but they are the two tastiest ones around. Elton says opportunities are earned and not given. Elton then said they asked Nick Aldis if they could see how good they are.
Thoughts: This was all over the place and hard to follow.
Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) vs Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer and Axiom)
Kit wristlocks Ax. Ax rolls and bridges out of it then dropkicks him. Kit is then held for a dropkick. Kit facekicks NF then hiptosses him. Kit pounds on NF in the corner. NF eznugiri's Kit. NF launchs Ax into a dropkick on Kit. Ax and NF then do topes outside.
Elton catches Ax's top rope crossbody. Ax is thrown into Kit's feet then takes a big lariat. We go to break and return. NF hits a springboard double dropkick. NF flying forearms Elton then asai moonsaults into a reverse ddt + regular ddt combo. NF running ssp's Elton. The ref then doesn't count 3 even though it's obviously a three.
Kit sitout powerbombs NF for 2. Ax hits a top rope spanish fly on Kit. Elton hits a phoenix splash on Kit and wins.
Thoughts: Fraxiom won as expected here. It was a high flying and fast paced match. The ref messed up an obvious pin here which hurt this. It was a bit rushed.
B-Fah and Michin talk to Aldis. Fab says they want gold of their own and Michin says they ant to fight Liv and Rquel when they come back.
The Secret Hervice comes in. Green is wearing funeral clothes and complains about the result of last week's match. Green threatens to send Aldis to the Supreme Court. Green wants a recount from her match last week. Aldis says not tonight as Zelina Vega is facing Piper Niven. He says Piper could get a US Title shot if she wins then Green could be first in line. Green then faints.
Nia Jax comes out to talk. She says she was at home getting re-focused on getting the women's title back. Tiffany Stratton comes out. Tiff says she's not the same Tiff Nia used to bully around. She says cashing in on her was the best thing she did for her career. She says she then beat Flair and would beat Nia if they locked up again. Nia asks if she's offering a rematch. Tiff says no. She says she's not shying away from a fight and would fight her anytime and anywhere.
Naomi comes out. She says Tiff always helped Nia when Naomi was trying to get the title. She says Tiff and Nia made her life hell. Naomi says Tiff hasn't changed, but she has. She says she's a new Naomi now. She says she took out Jade and says she's not done going after gold. She says she will push her on or under a car. Jade Cargill comes out and goes after Naomi. They fight and Tiff/Nia fight. Nia and Naomi are sent out. Jade and Tiff stare down.
Aldis comes out and sets up a tag team match. He then says "playa".
Melo Don't Miz talk in the back. Melo says they will show Aleister Black tonight along with "dre", who is the Andre the Giant necklace. Miz says everyone talks if you target Miz like Aleister Black did. Miz says Black didn't knock him out, he woke him up. He says he's fighting to show everyone who he is. He says Black will be apart of his statement.
The Miz vs Aleister Black
AB teases a kick and Miz goes down. AB rolls out of a wristlock, rolls Miz and trips him. Miz hits knees to the body then AB hits knees to the body. Miz goes out and AB moonsaults and poses.
AB knees him out of the corner then back elbows him. AB gets distracted by Carmelo Hayes and is pulled down into the apron LED board. We go to PiP break and return.
AB is pulled into the ropes throat first then sent out. Miz takes a knee from AB outside. AB legsweeps him then basement dropkicks him. AB asai moonsaults him for 2. Miz hits a short ddt for 2. Miz hits chest kicks. AB no sells them and laughs.
AB spinning back elbows him then chest kicks him. Miz pulls him down throat first over the top. AB cartwheels out of a skull crushing finale. AB does a jumping spinning knee and drops Miz. Melo distracts AB and Miz rolls up AB for 2. AB spinning high kicks Miz and pins him.
Thoughts: It went longer than expected with AB not demolishing Miz immediately. AB did his usual kicks and stuff. I'm not real sure where AB is going to fit in on this brand and we'll have to see where things go.
Meloz stares down AB after.
Rey Fenix and Santos Escobar talk in the back. Santos says his match at Mania was a disappointment. He said he got embarrassed and embarrassed all of lucha libre. Santos says Fenix was picked to replace Rey Mysterio and he blew it. Santos says Rey Mysterio is out of the picture and hopefully it's for forever. Santos says hopefully it will be him. Fenix tells him to stay out of his business. he says he only trusts one luchador and it's not him. He says he will see him in the ring if he has a problem.
Zelina Vega vs Piper Niven
Vega hits leg kicks on PN. Vega does af flying octopus in the air. PN misses a butt drop. Vega hits chest kicks. Vega pumping knees her. PN shoulders her over. PN clubs on Vega. PN drops her face first on the mat.
Vega is curbstomped into the bottom buckle. We go to break and return. PN is in control then swings her around. PN hits forearms. Vega codebreakers her and hits a knee to the face. PN uranage's her. PN sentons her for 2. Vega is up top. Vega 2nd rope diving meteora's her for 2.
PN hits a black hole slam for 2. PN misses a corner cannonball. Vega hits a corner meteora on her. Vega ddt's her. Vega hits a top rope moonsault. PN headbutts her. PN is hurricanrana'd into the ropes. Chelsea Green gets on the apron and distracts Vega. PN nails Green on accident. Vega then pins PN.
Thoughts: It was somewhat of a random one here. They did what they were supposed to but I didn't think it was anything great.
Aldis talks to Solo and Fatu. He complains about Solo interrupting matches 2 weeks in a row. Solo says Priest caused the DQ last week. Solo says Fatu warned Priest and LA. Aldis says "warning received" and says Fatu will face LA and Priest in a US Title match at the Backlash. Solo says Drew won the match and should get the shot. Aldis says let's make it a fatal four-way. Fatu says it doesn't matter. He says line them all up and he will dogwalk them. Solo says Aldis is trying to screw Fatu over and Aldis says no, Solo is.
Randy Orton comes out to talk and takes a while to get to it. Orton says welcome to Smackdown. He says the world couldn't see Cena, but he could. He says Cena is arrogant and selfish. He says he's an entitled brat and the ultimate shiny new toy to be played with by the ultimate puppet master. He says Cena took advantage of the PG Era and was willing to be a real life cartoon character while he was true to who he was.
Orton says all of that enabled Cena. He said Cena will put his name on anything so the kids buy it up. He asks where's Cena loyalty and respect? Orton says Cena isn't the last champion, he's the latest legend he has to put down. He says he kill Cena's lego shaped head through the Gateway Arch in St. Louis. He then says he will drop him with the RKO.
Thoughts: It was a little more on target but this feud would be so much better if they just focused on their history and this being their last match ever.
Nia Jax and Naomi talk in the back. Nia says they need to get on the same page and she will forget what she said. She says she wants the gold and Tiffy and says if she stays out of her way, they will be good. Naomi says "sure" and Nia looks spooked.
R-Truth and Randy Orton talk in the back. Truth says Orton has no chance against Cena. He says Cena will beat Orton. Orton asks him why he will say it. Truth says because it's true. Jimmy Uso then says Orton knows how Truth is. Jimmy tells Truth if he keeps talking like this, his head will be kicked of its shoulders. Truth said Cena told him he's the last real champ and he wouldn't lie to him.
Thoughts: Truth's role in this is interesting but Jimmy Uso is starting to become a background midcard character again after getting close to be a quasi-main eventer. This isn't a good thing for him.
Rey Fenix vs Santos Escobar
SE stalls to start. SE waistlock takedowns him. SE blocks an armdrag. SE tells him he should be the boss. They chop each other. SE tells him he should be the boss and Rey should follow the orders so they can take over together. Rey chops him. Rey pushes him over.
Rey walks up the ropes and does rope tricks. SE stops him from doing anything else with it though. SE goes out of the ring when Rey fakes him out. Rey flying headscissors him from the apron.
SE step up enzugiri's him. SE hits a nice tope. We go to PiP break and return. SE is still in control. SE slingshot swantons him for 2. SE armlocks him. Rey double jump moonsaults him for 2.
Rey spin kicks him for 2. SE drops him with a pumping knee. Rey springboards and is caught with a knee from SE. SE flying knees him in the corner. SE double underhook lifts him and knees him in the face for 2.
Rey dropkicks him from behind. Rey ropewalks and kicks SE in the head. Rey hits a top rope meteora and wins.
Thoughts: It went longer than it needed to. It was a slower paced match and not the best match they could have had. I could also personally care less about this angle as I feel like we've seen it many times over the last year with LdF.
Jade and Tiffany talk in the back. Bryon Saxon interrupts. He says they are teaming up for the first time and asks how wellthey will team up. Tiff says Nia will have to learn the title belongs around her shoulder. She says they won't have a problem as long as Jade stays out of her way. Jade says she needs to stay out of her way too. Jade says she's facing Nia in a #1 contender's match next week against Nia. Tiff said she almost had her beat last time and will have to do it again.
Andrade and Legado talk in the back. Santos is mad at the Los Garza didn't help him tonight. Andrade asks what his problem is. Santos tells him to watch himself. Andrade says Santos doesn't care about Los Garza and he says he doesn't like him. Andrade says Santos doesn't have legacy and honor and points at Los Garza. Andrade then points at his head towards Berto and Santos tells Berto "let's go".
Tiffany Stratton and Jade Cargill vs Naomi and Nia Jax
This is a very weak main event. Nia attacks Tiff before it starts and the four pair off. Tiff sends Nia into the steps then pounds on her. Jade throws Naomi out then bangs her head off the rails. Naomi is sent into the post.
Naomi kicks Jade in the back. Naomi slaps her then Jade pump kicks Naomi. Nia hits Jade from behind then bangs her head off the mat. Jade flatliners Naomi.
Tiff and Nia get in. Tiff hits some offense. Tiff hits a handspring back elbow. Tiff crucifix bombs her. Nia samoan drops Tiff. Nia lgdrops Tiff and Naomi tags herself in. Naomi goes for the split-legged moonsault but Tiff gets her knees up.
Jade drops Naomi on her chest then flying back elbows her in the corner. Jade chokeslams her for 2. Nia gets in and elbows then sentons Jade. Tiff top rope swantons Nia. Tiff boots Naomi in the corner. Nia splashes both in the corner.
Nia poses on the 2nd rope and Jade powerbombs her down to win.
Thoughts: It was chaotic as expected with Nia splashing her own partner and the girls swapping opponents. It did what it was supposed to and was okay enough.
The ref goes to give Tiff the belt after. Jade grabs it and she tugs for it with Tiff. Naomi hits Jade from behind. Naomi then holds the title up.
Overall thoughts: It was a weak SD. None of the stars were really here and the card suffered because of it. It was just a bunch of midcard matches. None were awful but none of them were anything you'd need to see. I'd give this one a 5 out of 10 as it was as average as it comes.
