CMLL 3/29/2024 Homenaje a Dos Leyendas

CMLL 3/29/2024 Homenaje a Dos Leyendas

Here's what I saw:

Mexican National Light Heavyweight Title Match - Esfinge (c) vs. Zandokan Jr.

They trade basic holds and Esfinge armdrags Zand. They trade chops and Esfinge flying headscissors him. Esfinge springboard dropkicks him then topes him outside into the rails. Esfinge springboard codebreakers him for 2. Esfinge springboards again and takes a knee off of it.

Zand chops him down then does a back body drop into a sitout slam. Zand basically hits a tiger driver 91 on the apron. Zand lays Esfinge on the rails then dives into him there. Zand sitout powerbombs him for 2. Zand hits corner punches then has his head superkicked into the top buckle. Esfinge monkey flips him. Zand alabama slams him for 2.

They fight on the apron. Esfinge superkicks him then monkey flips him off the apron to the floor. Esfinge tope con hilos over the ref onto Zand. Esfinge springboard splashes him then rolls him up into a pin attempt by using the legs. Zand tiger drivers him for 2. Esfinge tries to pin him gain with the leg locked up and does.

I didn't like this one at all with a tiger driver on the apron just being a mid-match move and not meaning anything.

CMLL World Light Heavyweight Title Match - El Barbaro Cavernario (c) vs. Averno

Barb and Av grab each other by the throats. Av takes him down then is armdrgged. Av side headlocks him then headlock takeovers him. They stand off. Barb dropkicks Av out then Barb is sent into the rails outside.

Back in the ring, Av back elbows him and chest kicks him. Av lariats Barb then boots him in the head. Barb chops Av. Av boots him in the corner then Barb does the arm off of it. Barb kicks Av in the head then double jump plancha's him outside.

Barb hits a nice suplex on Av then hits ataxia for 2. Barb goes out of the ring then Av tope con hilos him. Av is chopped while up top then Av 2nd rope sitout pedigrees him. Av flying armbars him and Barb ropebreaks. Barb puts a hold on him and Av rope breaks.

Av goes out and Barb runs around the ring to kick him. Barb comes off the top and splashes him while he lays on the floor. Av steps on the back of his legs and pulls his neck back to get a submission victory.

I didn't think it was that interesting and I thought it went on longer than needed.

Mask Vs. Mask Four Way Match - Pierrothito vs. Pequeno Olimpico vs. Acero vs. Angelito

Acero had some cool looking Gundam gear on then got nailed by Angel as soon as he got in. Olim also nails Pier as he gets in. Angel dropkicks Olim. Olim ties up Angel's arms in the ropes and stomps it. Angel is put in tree of woe and hit. Olim hits a nice lariat on Pier and dropkicks him. Angel springboard dropkicks Acero then does a nice tope on Pier.

Acero flying headscissors Olim then Angel does a nice corkscrew body scissors on Acero. Pier armdrags Angel out then is dropkicked out. Acero armdrags Olim then asai moonsaults Pier. Olim armdrags Angel off the ropes. Acero germans Angel while doing a pin attempt on Olim.

Acero armdrags Pier then Pier armbars Acero. Pier taps out Acero. Olim rolls up Pier then back elbows him. Angel springboard splashes Pier. Angel springboard armdrags Olim then springboard planha's him outside. Pier cannonballs Angel off the ramp. Pier sitout powerbombs Olim. Angel flying headscissors Olim then Pier throws Angel into the rails outside. Pier elbow drops Olim then Olim pins him off an armdrag. Olim and Angel are the last two left.

Olim spins Angel around then elbow drops him. Angel handstand walks after coming off the ropes then tope con hilos Olim. Angel hits a nasty brainbuster on Olim and pins him. Olimpico unmasks after.

I thought the whole concept of this was stupid. Acero was pinned first and didn't have to unmask. Why? And why would you even want to compete in this anyway if you like having a mask? It made no sense. It was a typical messy four way with usually only 2 people at a time wrestling. This is certainly not the way I'd want to lose my mask if I were Olimpico.

Lluvia, Stephanie Vaquer & Zeuxis vs. La Catalina, Tessa Blanchard & Willow Nightingale

Z = Zeuxis, L = Lluvia, SV = Stephanie Vaquer, Cat = La Catalina

The audio got messed up here and everyone ended up coming out to Willow's music.

Willow corner lariats L then step up enzugiri's her. L spinning headscissors Willow then corner basmeent dropkicks her. Z death valley drivers L into Willow in the corner.

Cat and L go at it. L bangs Cat's head off the buckles Cat top rope crossbodies her then Cat hip attacks L on the ropes. Cat and SV go at it. Cat basement dropkicks her. SV superkicks Cat then dropkicks her. Tessa superkicks SV then SV double underhook backbreakers her. Cat gets pinned after a dropkick on the ropes then Willow is pinned after a corner meteora. Lluvia's team wins the fall.

2nd fall - Tessa makes L ddt Z then she top rope planchas both of them. SV takes corner attacks then Z takes a double hip attack over the 2nd rope. Willow hits a double suplex. Willow is tripped and pulled out then SB springboard crossbodies Willow hard into the rail. Cat to prope facebusters L while Tessa sitout powerbombs Z. Tessa's team wins the fall with double pins.

3rd fall - We get a 6 girl sleeper spot and Willow's team takes corner attacks. Tessa takes a double team facebuster. L basement dropkicks Cat on the ramp, as does Z. L pendulum ddt's Willow then Z meteora's Willow. SV bangs Willow's head off the mat with her legs. L avoids a doomsday device. Willow ends up doing a pounce to Z then cannonballs her off the apron. Tessa topes willow outside then Cat crossbodies Tessa. L then hits a dive off the apron. Willow hits a big lariat on SV then sitout powerbombs her and wins it.

It only had a little over 10 minutes and it wasn't enough for all of the people involved. They really had to rush it and because of that, it was very fast paced. It was better than I had expected but there were some spots that could have been better here. Still it was a pretty good effort for the skill levels involved here.

Torneo Incredible De Parejas 2024 Final Match - Atlantis Jr. & Soberano Jr. vs. Mascara Dorada & Rocky Romero

AJ = Atlantis Jr., Sob = Soberano

AJ and Dorada do some flips then Dorada hits armdrags. Dorada standing ssp's him and thye stand off. Sob and Rocky go at it. Sob flips over his back and poses off a handspring while Rocky dances. AJ and Dorada do topes outside then trade chops. Both are pulled out then both hit dives outside.

Sob moonsaults off the rails onto Dorada. Sob throws Ke Monito into Dorada. Sob stomps on Dorada then AJ tilt-a-whirl backbreakers Dorada. Dorada's head is banged off the buckles. They mess up a 3 person spot where Dorada hits an armdrag. Dorada jumps off of Sob's leg and the top rope for a hurricanrana. Sob takes an electric chair driver while AJ takes a shiranui. Sob takes a knee + enzugiri in the corner then takes a power bomb + shiranui combo. Dorada 450's him for 2. AJ tilt-a-whirl backbreakers his opponents then moneky flips Rocky. AJ monkey flips Dorada. Sob tornillos Dorada for 2. Sob dropkicks Dorada into an AJ german then splashes Rocky off of it.

The four fight in the middle of the ring. Rocky germans Sob then Dorada superkicks AJ. Sob pop up knees Rocky then styles clashes Dorada on Rocky. Sob is popped up into a dropkick on Rocky. Dorada corkscrew headscissors AJ. Dorada does an off the post SSP to the outside.

Atlantis superkicks Dorada then suerkicks Rocky on the ramp. AJ runs the ramp and crossbodies his partner when Dorada moves. Rocky topes AJ and AJ suplexes him on the floor. Dorada top rope ssp's Sob and pins him. Sob is eliminated from the match.

AJ takes a crucifix driver from la atlantida then Dorada's top rope ssp is caught with an AJ cutter. Alantis pins Dorada.

Rocky stomps on AJ then unties his mask. Rock does a beach break on AJ. AJ powerslams Rocky then top rope splashes him. Sob and Dorada get in and interrupt the count. Sob tries to low blow AJ, pulls off AJ's mask then Rocky rolls up AJ and wins it.

It was long. Not all of the spots were hit clean here and there wasn't a lot of logic. The finish was dumb here. Sob and AJ are feuding partners and instead of just screwing AJ from the start, he wrestled a whole match then screwed him at the end. It made no sense.

Blue Panther, Mistico, Ultimo Guerrero & Volador Jr. vs. Blackpool Combat Club (Bryan Danielson, Claudio Castagnoli & Jon Moxley) & Matt Sydal

Bryan holds up Blue's arm and they start us off. They mat wrestle and stand off then Mox hits Blue from behind. Ultimo lariats Mox over the top and goes with him then Vol flying headscissors Matt. Mist springboard hurricanrana's CC. Vol and Mist slide out and are thrown into the rails. Mox hits forearms on Ultimo then CC sends Mist hard into the rails. Blue takes a 2v1 on the ropes then takes a double face kick. Matt standing corkscrew moonsaults Blue.

Bryan top rope dropkicks Blue then Ultimo is beat up 4v1. Bryan hits a ccest kick flurry on Ultimo. Ultimo takes running corner attacks then Mox cutters Ultimo. CC giant swings Vol into a Mox dropkick. Matt air raid crashes Mist. Mist is laying on the top rope and Bryan flying knees him off the top.

Blue gets beat up 2v1 then CC throws Mist into the LED wall. Blue is held for kicks from Bryan then Blue lariats Bryan. Ultimo double lariats Bryan and Matt. Mist runs the ramp, is popped up by Vol and flying headscissors CC in the ring. Mist then runs up the buckles and plancha's CC outside.

Ultimo is stomped 3v1 then beat up in the corner. CC euro flurries Ultimo. The ref is a total moron here telling the faces not to get in while Ultimo is beaten up 4v1. Ultimop counters his opponents then basement dropkicks Mox off the apron. Blue goes to nudo Bryan but is stopped by CC. Blue walks up the buckles and 2nd rope twisting crossbodies CC.

CC is sent over the top then Blue cannonballs him off the apron. Mist and Bryan play with the crowd then Bryan stomps Mist. Mist handspring back elbows Bryan then Mist flying headscissors Bryan. Mist springboard hurricanrana's CC then walks up the buckles and corkscrew armdrags Mox.

Mist flying headscissors Matt. Vol and Mox push each other. Vol handsprings off the ropes and flying hurricanrana's Mox. Vol superkicks Bryan then satellite headscissors CC out.

Ultimo and Mox chop each other. Ultimo chop flurries him then Mox lariats him. Mox hits corner punches on Ultimo, bites him then takes a 2nd rope powerbomb. Mox double underhook ddt's Ultimo and pins him.

Mist springboard dropkicks Mox. Vol flying headscissors CC out then does a headscissors outside off the plancha. Bryan flying knees Blue. Bryan flips off the buckles and Blue armbars him. Matt breaks it up then takes a springboard crossbody from Mist. Mist spinning headscissors Matt into an armbar and taps him out. This wins Mistico's team the match.

We had a pretty good idea The BCC was losing here as why else would Matt Sydal be involved? It was super, super fast paced with people coming in and out constantly. We really didn't get too many dives here and the BCC constantly double or triple teamed the faces here. This one really didn't have enough time for how many people were involved but it was entertaining and the crowd was nuts for this.

Bryan Danielson grabs the mic after and chants "No". He says he's not satisfied and said Blue Panther can't beat him. He said he wants Blue Panther mano y mano next Friday in Arena Mexico. Blue says something in Spanish and they agree to a match.

Overall thoughts: I liked the main but it wasn't a classic. The crowd was fantastic for it. The semi main went too long, didn't make sense and wasn't good. The women's match wasn't bad. The mask match didn't make a lot of sense either and I wasn't a fan Barb/Averno. It was nice to see some different names than usual on the show and CMLL did try to put on a nice card here. I can't say I loved the show though.

  1. I was disappointed when they announced Sydal was subbing for Wheeler. I was hoping it'd be Shibata, to play off the fact that he and the other BCC guys seemed to be showing each other respect. It's a bit of a letdown that Averno/Barbaro didn't really seem to come off that well. I've always been a big Averno fan, and was really looking forward to that match.

    1. Shibata working with some of the CMLL guys would have been interesting.
