WWE Friday Night Smackdown March 5th, 2021

Michael Cole opened the show from in the ring and brought out Daniel Bryan. Cole said the plan for Fastlane was DB/Edge vs Roman and Jey and Cole wanted to know why DB wanted to focus on the title instead. DB said he was never asked if he wanted to be in that tag match. DB said he is usually the guy who goes with the flow and he knows WWE wants Edge/Roman at Mania. DB though said he didn't want to see that and wanted to see himself in the main event at Mania.
They showed a package on what happened at the Elimination Chamber. DB said he felt like a failure at the EC when Edge pointed to the Wrestlemania sign. He said he has been told he has low ambition but he loves wrestling. He said he had taken a backseat to other wrestlers and seeing Edge point at the Wrestlemania sign renewed his ambition.
Reigns, Uso and Heyman then came out as we went to break. Back from break and Roman says DB has nothing but wrestling. He said DB doesn't love wrestling but he needs wrestling. Roman said everyone needs him including DB. Jey then got on the mic and told DB he's not going through him tonight and said he's going to get him. Jey went for something on DB and got thrown over the top then DB stared down Roman.
This idea of DB possibly wanting to do a tag match over getting a title match was nonsense.
The Street Profits vs Sami Zayn and King Corbin
Sami said the SP's got a fluke win on them last week, but they will prove it was just a fluke this time around. Corbin came out and said they aren't partners and he refuses to team with them. He then said he wanted a singles match instead. Ford agreed. Sami accused them of colluding together.
Montez Ford vs King Corbin
Ford flipped out of the corner and hit some nice dropkicks then he took a spinebuster down. Ford then got picked up a backdrop and was hit with put in a ripcord down. Ford came back with a splash and a dropkick then hit a ddt off a pop-up. He then hit a standing moonsault on Corbin. Ford hit an enzugiri but took an end of days and lost in a quick one. Ford looked good as usual.
Dawkins knocked Sami off the apron into Corbin and Corbin left him.
Sami Zayn vs Angelo Dawkins
We went to break and came back to start this. Dawkins did a nice leapfrog and a dropkick. They went outside briefly with Dawkins getting put into the barricades. Sami chokes Dawkins on the ropes and yells at Ford. Sami hit a big clothesline and a nice punch to the face. Dawkins came back with clotheslines and a flying back elbow. Dawkins picked up Sami for a double underhook suplex then twisted him around into a neckbreaker.
Dawkins missed a corner splash and took an exploder into the buckles. Ford started messing around in front of Sami's camera men and that distracted Sami. Dawkins then pinned him during this. Dawkins looked pretty good here with a bunch of moves that flowed well together.
Sami then asked who was behind this and said he didn't who one of his camera men were. Then he beat up one of them.
Reginald ran into Carmella in the back with champagne. Carmella accused him of betraying her. She called him a snake, threw wine in his face and fired him. This was totally justified.
Dominik Mysterio with Rey Mysterio vs Chad Gable with Otis
Chad took Dom down early. Then he latched onto Dom and was rolled outside. Dom hurricanrana'd Gable from the 2nd rope then took a great tiger suplex. Dom hit a la magistral soon after and won it, then Rey hit a baseball slide on Otis. He then hit la silla on Otis over the table and Rey bumped his head off the camera. This was short but there wasn't anything wrong with it.
Shayna Baszler with Nia Jax vs Bianca Belair with Sasha Banks and Reginald
Reginald trailed Sasha on her way out. Bianca caught Shayna with a headscissors above the top rope and Shayna kicked her arm. Shayna yanked back Bianca's arm her with legs and tried a hammerlock but was slammed. Bianca back body dropped her and was rolled out hard to the floor. She pushed Reginald for some reason and got kicked by Shayna on her way in. Reginald then got pushed by Nia into Sasha, then Reginald ducked a charging Nia. Sasha then got rammed by Nia. During this, Bianca hit a reverse sitout F-U and won it. Very short match on a night of short matches so far.
Bianca blamed Sasha for the loss and told her to fix the situation with Reginald. Sasha then slapped Reg.
Roman and Jey Uso met up in the back. Roman said Jey would be embarassing himself and the family if he loses.
Murphy vs Cesaro
This may be Murphy's first match this year on SD. Seth Rollins comes down as soon as this starts. Cesaro Karelin's lifts Murphy to start as Seth goes to the commentary table. Murphy jumps up and gets caught in a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker. Murphy does a flip dive on Cesaro on the outside then he does a top rope meteora for 2. Cesaro hits some euro uppercuts and face kicks Murphy off the ropes. Cesaro then hit the giant swing and won it with a sharpshooter in another short match.
Seth mocked Cesaro by clapping for him after.
Reginald knocked on Sasha's door on his way out and she slammed the door in his face. Shayna and Nia then said he reeked of failure and Shayna wanted to fight him. Nia said he was cute. I hate to break it to Shayna but one shot from Reginald and she's going down.
Apollo Crews came out with soldiers and carried a spear. Apollo is now speaking with a Nigerian accent. He said he is now talking the way he actually talks. He said he has the "Nigerian Elite Guard" with him. He said when Big E attacked him, he felt like he heard his ancestors telling him to reclaim his birthright. He said he isn't the man Big E used to know. He said he no longer begs, he demands and he demands a shot at the IC title. Crews talking in an accent here was just silly.
Natalya, Tamina, Pearce and Sonya talked in the back. Natalya wanted her team in the women's tag team title match and Pearce said he couldn't do anything. Sonya said she would have made a different call. Tamina had brains here and looked like a different person.
Jey Uso was interviewed in the back. Daniel Bryan jumped him from behind and dropped him.
Ding Dong Hello! with Bayley
Bayley said she was going to read good tweets about her since other people read bad tweets. She picked 3 of them and the last one was seemingly bad as she crinkled it up, then she went through the Ding Dong Hello! door and ended the segment.
Corey Graves was in the cage talking about it. He talked about the various ways to win.
Steel Cage Match - Daniel Bryan gets a Universal Title shot if he wins - Daniel Bryan vs Jey Uso
Reigns and Heyman came down in their own seperate entrance for some reason. Heyman even got a rolling chair for him. DB was thrown into the cage early and had his head banged off of it. They stood on the top rope and banged each other's heads off the cage then Daniel Bryan was crotched on the top rope.
DB recovered then banged Jey's head off the cage and hit a top rope missile dropkick. Jey then got rammed into the cage more and crotched DB on the top rope. Jey Uso put him in the tree of woe and stomped his knee then he hit a top rope samoan drop.
We went to break and came back with Daniel Bryan hitting headbutts on Jey on top of the cage. DB stood on the top rope and kicked Jay into the cage then Jey jumped off the top onto Daniel Bryan. Jey superkicked Daniel Bryan for 2 then hit some wild punches on him from the mount. DB stopped Jey from going over top the cage then he hit a butterfly suplex from the top. He then rolled it into a yes lock. Jey grabbed the ropes but there are no rope breaks and Jey tapped out for the Daniel Bryan win.
The match was alright but the logic sucked here. There were no DQ's, yet Roman didn't get involved even though he would have potentially saved himself from an extra title shot with an Uso win.
Overall thoughts: The show went by quick but there was little actual content here. Every match was short minus the main and the opening talking segment was probably the longest thing on this show.
