Ring of Honor TV Episode #495 3/12/2021
Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/03/ring-of-honor-tv-episode-494-362021.html
As always, the show airs on different days depending on how you are watching it. It is best to keep count of the episodes by their episode number.
Quinn McKay welcomes us to the show as usual.
Jay Lethal did an interview after his win last week that they showed here. He said he and The Foundation have a chance to get the ROH World Title back soon. Lethal says The Foundation wants to purify this company and they have to do it by winning all the titles. He said they will have chances to get the belts back at the Anniversary show and Jay got pretty hyped about it in a decent promo. They announce Lethal vs Rush for the ROH title at the PPV, Rhett Titus and Tracy Williams of the Foundation vs Kenny King and Dragon Lee for the ROH World Tag Titles and EC3 vs Jay Briscoe.
Dak Draper did a promo. He said his success so far in ROH has gone straight to his head. He said no amount of success is enough for him and said that's the difference between him and Fred Yehi. He said Yehi won't stand between him and success.
Fred Yehi said he needs this win after losing multiple times. He said he is a hungry savageweight.
Caprice Coleman, Ian Riccaboni and Will Ferrera are at the commentary booth.
Pure Rules Match - Fred Yehi vs Dak Draper
Not much happens early as they grapple a little. Dak hip tosses Fred across the ring and drops a knee on him. Fred does some pendulum style knees in the corner. Fred germans him at 5 minutes in. Dak then tries to do the same to him but ends up deadlifting him and swinging him around.
We go to break and return. We were shown Dak working on the arm during the break. Dak turns a satelite headscissors into a side slam. They trade some shots and Dak hits a nice punch, which he gets a warning for. Dak wins soon after with a magnum KO/wasteland forwarnd fireman's carry slam. They went about 11 minutes here without really doing too much and having a commercial during the match.
Thoughts: It wasn't entertaining and the lack of crowd hurt it more.
Dak gives Fred a participation medal after and offers to shake his hand. Fred isn't very interested and Dak tries to give him the medal again before he slaps it away. Dak calls himself the ultimate sportsman after.
We had the commercial again with George Foreman vs a Shady Repaiman. I would much rather watch that battle than Yehi/Dak or King/Deppen.
Quinn McKay interviews Tony Deppen in the back. Deppen and McKay agree that King stands in the way with him getting a rematch with Dragon Lee. Deppen says he will have to watch his back during their match tonight.
Kenny King gets interviewed next. He said the internet has hyped Tony up to think he deserves a TV title shot and he is crazy for it. King yells at the girl he is with and McKay says she doesn't have to deal with it.
Tony Deppen vs Kenny King with La Faccion Ingobernable
King offers a handshake then decks him and stomps him. King pounds on him. Deppen comes back with a springboard into an armdrag but gets caught and takes a chestbreaker over the shoulder.
We went to break and some lawyer named George Sink cut a decent promo on the VA. Coming back and King gets rolled up but responds with a spinebuster. During the break, Tony took a trip into the rails from Dragon Lee. Tony hit a slap combo on King and got some offense in. He swept Kenny's leg from the outside while King was in, then senton'd him off the bottom rope. Tony hit a flying knee and tornado ddt'd King on the outside.
Deppen double stomped King from the top for 2. Deppen fell on a springboard attempt and was tiger drivered soon after. King pulled Deppen out of his pin attempt and had his fireman's carry throw reversed into a pin for the Tony Deppen win.
Thoughts: I wasn't a big fan of this one with a lot of Deppen's offense looking weak.
LFI beat up on Deppen after with King hitting the royal flush and Bestia Del Ring hitting a reverse samurai driver. Brody King then came in and beat up on LFI and went toe to toe with Rush. Brody eventually got outnumbered 5v1. Brody was put on a table and Bestia hit a senton on King through the table. LFI then poses on him.
Flip Gordon vs Flamita
Flip did an inset. He said he deserves a world title shot and says after he beats Flamita, he better get his title shot.
Flamita did a promo translated in English. He said Flip disrespected him by taking off his mask and said Flip has some dark tendencies in him now. He said Flamita will alwways be better than him.
They about 9 minutes for this. They trade chest slaps to start. Flamita hits a running headscissors on Flip to send him out then Flip spears him into the barricade. Flip carries him around on the outside and they have a sequence which ends with Flamita getting superkicked. We go to break and come back.
Flamita handsprings into a back elbow then superkicks Flip on the outside. Flamita moonsaults off the 2nd rope onto Flip on the outside. Flamita comes off the top but gets met with a dropkick. They slap each other after Flip yells at him in spanish then Flamita hits a double underhook powerbomb.
They fight on top and Flip powerbomb him after slipping under. Flamita comes back with a poisonrana. They slap each other again and Flamita hits a superkick. Flamita then frogsplashes Flip for a close 2. Flip kips down and back up out of a superkick then does a springboard slingblade for 2. Flamita escapes an F-5 and Mark Briscoe throws a chair in. The ref clears it and Mark chairs Flip, with Flamita rolling up Flip for the win. This was in response to Flip costing him a match recently.
Thoughts: I thought they did a little bit much here without selling it enough but I liked the slaps.
Flip came back in after and beat up Flamita, before taking his mask off. Mexisquad then came down and beat up on Flip 2v1 to clear him out.
Next week - Eli Isom vs Rey Horus and The Foundation vs LFI in an 8-man tag
Overall thoughts: Not a very interesting episode here and I wasn't that into the 3 matches.
