AEW Dark Episode #80 3/16/2021

AEW Dark Episode #80 3/16/2021

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2021/04/aew-dark-episode-79-392021.html

Cezar Bononi with Peter Avalon vs Luchasaurus with Marko Stunt

I have no idea why Bononi drags out Avalon. I'd love an explanation on that. I heard this was awful. Lucha hits a bad jumping kick then Cezar follows with bad corner strikes. Peter grabs Lucha's foot and Cezar knocks Lucha out of the ring. Lucha gets backdropped onto the apron from the floor.

Lucha flips for a lariat then Cezar backdrops him. Lucha knocks over Bononi on accident with a body spear and hits a bad german. He then rocks Cezar with a spinning knee to the face. Avalon gets brought in by his throat and Cezar jumping boots Lucha when he's not looking.

Avalon gets knocked off the apron and gets hit with a reverse F-U for a 2. Lucha headsprings out of a lariat then chokeslams and standing moonsaults Bononi for the win. AEW edited and re-uploaded this show after it happened and I think they edited out one of the big botches here. This was slow and not good with both guys looking clumsy.

Leyla Hirsch vs Savannah Evans

Evans is so much bigger than Hirsch. It seriously looks like a wrestler vs midget match. Leyla slips under her and release german suplexes her.  Evans comes back with some shots and slaps her hard in the back. Evans misses a corner charge and Hirsch hits a meteora then a pendulum double boot in the corner. She then lifts her and backdrops her.

Hirsch springboards and gets caught with a samoan drop. Hirsch then rolls up Evans and armbars her for the win. Evans was too big and this was just not believable.

Evans and Vickie Guerrero argue after for some reason.

John Silver with -1 vs John Skyler

Hey, someone Silver is bigger than is out here! Silver shoulders skyler tdown early and hurricanrana's him, then he dropkicks him. Silver hits some chest kicks and Skyler foward rolling fireman's carries Silver. -1 does a lap around the ring for some reason and Skyler bear hugs Silver.

They trade shots and Silver spinning torture rack slams Skyler for the win. -1 was doing twirls along with the spin here and then helps kick out Skyler from the ring which is not a face thing to do at all.

Tesha Price vs Penelope Ford with Kip Sabian

Tesha rolls through the middle rope for her entrance. Tesha hits a back elbow to a charging Ford, which sends her out. Tesha takes a right hand on the apron. Ford has Tesha on the apron and springboard double knees her as she lays. Ford puts her body hanging over the top rope and kicks her down. Ford then hits a fireman's carry into a double knee and only gets a 2.

Ford misses a cartwheel and backflip elbow then Price cartwheel kicks her. Ford hits a spinning back kick then handsprings into the ropes and hits a cutter on the rebound to win. Price showed a little personality here but the finish didn't look too good and I'm not sure why the fireman's carry double knee was kicked out of.

Chaos Project vs Fuego del Sol and Jake St. Patrick

Sol and Jake get jumped at the start of this then Jake takes corner lariats. Jake does a wild spin on a lariat from Luther then Luther reverse suplexes Serpentico onto Jake. Luther bashes Jake and Serp's heads together for some reason then powerbombs Jake, but Sol stops the count. Sol springboard dropkicks in with the hot tag and uses Luther to hit a sliced bread #2 on Serp. Sol then ddt's Luther off the 2nd rope but Serp breaks the count.

Luther pump kicks Sol then holds him up so Serp can drop double knees on him from the top, which wins it. This wasn't too bad with Sol getting some rub.

Kilynn King vs Jazmin Allure

Allure has a decent look. She tries an up and over in the corner but King kicks her in the gut. She leg kicks King and superkicks her. Allure grounds and pounds her then cartwheel splashes her for 2. Allure pounds on her in the corner and rolls her into a kick into the upper back.

The two trade shots and King high kicks her. King puts her in the giant swing. Allure tries a wheelbarrow takedown move but gets slammed down and King wins it. Allure looked pretty good here.

Angel Fashion, Baron Black, Vary Morales and Ryzin vs The Dark Order(Colt Cabana, Evil Uno, Stu Grayson and Alan "5" Angels) with -1.

I've seen Ryzin a few times so far and I don't know if he's gotten a single bit of offense in yet.  Stu pounds on Angel to start. Vary gets beaten up in the corner then D-O teases doing a 4 man move but poses instead. 5 hits a nice overhead belly to belly and Vary takes 2 sets of double chops down.

Colt gets a couple of nice elbows on Ryzin and Ryzin comes back with an enzugiri. Ryzin then takes a big back body drop. Colt holds Black's leg in the corner and Uno neckbreakers him. Stu backbreakers him over the knee and Colt reverse boston crabs him for the win. -1 then kicks at Black and has to be carried off. Stu then poses with -1 upside down. Well, Ryzin got an enzugiri in atleast. -1 then does a kip up.

The Gunn Club vs David Ali, Adam Priest and Seth Gargis

Gunn Club gets jumped at the bell. Billy picks up Priest like a kid. Billy hits the fameasser on Seth and and Austin does a hiptoss into a neckbreaker for the win on Ali in maybe a minute. This was a total waste of time.

Bear Country vs Dean Alexander and Brick Aldridge

Dean and Brick get lariated to start. Boulder picks up both opponents and powerslams them in a cool spot. The opponents get stacked on top of each other and Bronson gets dropped from Boulder's shoulders for the win in another waste of time squash.

Nick Comoroto with QT Marshall vs D3

Nick slams D3 early. D3 crossbodies Nick but gets caught. Nick hits a spinning back breaker then gorilla presses him into a powerslam for another quick and waste of time win.

Jorel Nelson and Royce Isaacs vs The Varsity Blonds(Brian Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison)

Jorel and Royce are wearing matching multicolored tights again with silver trim. Pilmman and Royce shove each other. Royce takes a double suplex. Brian goes for a springboard by Jorel stops it. Pillman takes offense from both opponents. Jorel hits a nice boot to the face and Pillman really shoulders Jorel down. Pillman tags to Griff who makes Jorel fly with a back body drop then Griff hits a falcon arrow on Royce, which Jorel breaks up.

Royce holds up Griff for a shoulder breaker. Jorel comes underneath Griff's head and Royce pushes Griff forward for a slam and I have no idea what you call that. Griff hits a nice spinning forearm on Jorel after throwing out Royce and Pillman springboard clotheslines Jorel to win. Not too bad with both teams getting a decent bit in.

Madi Wrenkowski vs Vertvixen

Madi's 1-2 and Vert is 0-3 this year. Vert and Madi hit some hard forearms on each other early. Vert hits a hard back elbow on the ropes  and a single leg dropkick on Madi. Madi forward fireman's carry slams her then does a leaping leg drop on the body.

Vert pounds on Madi and hits a couple of kicks to Madi's face before hitting an enzugiri. Madi monkey flips Vert then Vert comes back with a flying knee. Madi hits a nice axe kick to Vert's back and wins it. I kind of liked this one. It was a little sloppy but the good kind of sloppy.

SCU vs Carlie Bravo and Aaron Solow

Carlie is a girls name and it sounds like it should be Charlie Bravo. Dumb name. Daniels and Bravo evade each others moves a bit to start. They brought up the stip where if SCU loses, they disband, but I guess it didn't apply to the battle royal they lost.

Kaz pushed Bravo into an STO then Bravo took a big back body drop. Daniels did a slingshot elbow drop and Kaz followed with a slingshot leg drop. Kaz leg sweeped Bravo while Daniels came off the buckles with a lariat.

Solow got in and cleared off SCU and hit a top rope lariat. Daniels came back with a reverse STO and Solow got out of a tiger driver. Solow spin kicked Daniels into a Kaz tag then diving footstomped Kaz. Bravo was tagged in and did a top rope crossbody. Kaz nailed him with a lariat hard then they did a spine tombstone with an assist off a 2nd rope moonsault. This went very long for a squash and I'm not too sure why.

I will not be covering the Janela and Kiss match.

Jack Evans vs 10 with -1

-1 is at the commentary booth for this and immediately ignores Excalibur. 10 hiptosses Evans early and they go outside, where 10 goes into the post. Jack hits a spin kick then gamengiri's him before doing a standing twisting moonsault. Evans does a cartwheel elbow in the corner and ends up going over the top on it. Jack then springboard kicks him.

They showed a replay and missed some top rope move then 10 came back with some clotheslines. They blow a back body drop, then Evans stands on him to moonsault. Jack does a sloppy pin attempt and then has trouble putting on an armbar.

10 comes back with a ripcord neckbreaker and flips him with a lariat. Jack barely gets over on a back body drop then is spinebustered. Jack springboards off the ropes and is caught with a nice spear. Angelico tries to interfere and distracts things enough for Jack to low blow 10. Jack then hits a phoenix splash on 10 for 2. 1- puts Jack in the full nelson and starts bleeding hard from the mouth possibly after the phoenix splash. 10 wins with a full nelson after. -1 takes a cheapshot on Jack as they pose and they cut out some of the post match stuff here.

This wasn't good. The two didn't gel and Jack trying to be the heel with all kinds of cool flips didn't really work here. I think they also rushed the finish as 10 was bleeding.

Overall thoughts: It's Dark. The format and amount of matches limits what can be done here. It's never a must see or even good show. There was a lot of sloppiness this week and some of the matches were complete wastes of time. I thought Madi vs Vert was maybe the best thing on this show, but that's not saying a lot.
