NWA Power Episode #22 3/23/2021

NWA Power Episode #22 3/23/2021

They do a nice intro package with the Into The Fire music, showing some of the wrestlers.

Velvet Sky is on commentary with Joe Galli and Tim Storm. The Mongrovia flag hangs with the other flags in memory of Jocephus.

Kyle Davis has Thom Latimer, Nick Aldis and Kamille at the booth. Thom tells the Pope that he'd be champ within the time limit and he'll meet Pope again. Kamile was announced as the #1 Contender to the Women's Championship.

Aldis told Thom to cool it down and save that energy for later. Nick said he was an animal in the ring and the board room, as the NWA is here to stay on FiteTv. Nick talked about his faction Strictly Business with Kamile and Thom and said it is just a matter of time until they get all the titles. This promo was a mess with them trying to talk about too many things at once and not really making clear what Strictly Business was.

Kamille vs Alex Gracia

We've seen Gracia on AEW Dark before. She starts off dropkicking Kamille. She tries to walk up the ropes to hurricanrana Kamille but gets powerbombed hard. Kamille torture racks her and then drops her hard. Gracia then gets clubbed while she is tied up in the ropes. Kamille busts her nose open and spears her down hard to win in a squash. Kamille looked good here.

The Pope D'Angelo Dinero does an interview. He said he was a little lucky at the PPV but Latimer was not. He said he wasn't happy with the way it went down, but all he had to was survive and he did. The announcer mentioned that if he defended it 7 times, he gets a world title shot. Pope said if he can get there, he will possibly vacate the title to get his shot. He talked about how great he was then Austin Idol and Tyrus came out.

Idol said he wants to talk about something that matters and said Pope was lucky to be on the same set as him. He said he had breaking news and Tyrus would be his new client. Idol said Aldis would not be the champ without him and he will make Tyrus the new champ. People asked "who the hell is this?". Tyrus said they don't like each other but if you've got questions, take it to Idol. Pope and Idol were both good here.

We get an Austin Idol promo for his wrestling school.

Pope is now on commentary instead of Velvet Sky.

#1 Contender to the NWA Television Championship - Marshe Rockett vs Matt Cross vs Fred Rosser

Marshe looks huge here and was most well known for being part of The Soul Touchaz which were a great team that should have gone somewhere. Matt Cross has been an indy vet for almost 20 years now and was on the last edition of Tough Enough.

Rockett takes a double back elbow to start. Fred hits some headbutts on Rockett and Rockett comes back with a nice dropkick.  Cross does a cartwheel into an elbow then a springboard crossbody. Fred clips Rockett and it looked like it really hurt him. Rockett hits a big powerslam on Cross for 2. Cross bounces off the top rope and hits a neckbreaker on the rebound.

Cross goes for the SSP but nobody is there then Fred hits a gorilla press into a double knee for the win. This was quicker than I expected and it was hard for anyone to do really do anything due to it. The crowd chants "no days off" at Rosser after.

Slice Boogie gets interviewed by May in the back. He said he went through three big boys at the PPV is now undefeated in the NWA. He said he isn't gunning for anyone in particular right now and hit on the announcer.

Mike Parrow vs Jordan Clearwater

This is Parrow's NWA debut. He was also on MLW Fusion last week. Parrow hits a full nelson slam then sentons Jordan. He hits a big clothesline on Jordan then chokeslams him. Jordan goes for a neckbreaker but can barely get it with how big Parrow is. Parrow then hits a sit out driver and wins it in a squash. Parrow's big but I haven't been very impressed with him from what I've seen so far.

Velvet Sky is back at the booth.

Thunder Rosa does an interview with Kyle Davis. She said she wants her NWA Women's Championship back. Melina then comes out. She says she is proud of Rosa and sees herself in Rosa. She said she is there for Rosa. Rosa said she can handle things on her own and Melina says if she needs anything, she is there for her. Rosa said she isn't interested and Kyle takes us away.

Aron Stevens, JR Kratos and The Pope vs Nick Aldis, Thom Latimer and Chris Adonis

They called this a "Six Man Champions Match". Adonis is the surprise partner for Aldis and Thom. Stevens and Kratos are the NWA tag champs and Pope is the TV champ.

Stevens is wearing normal looking gear here. Stevens fireman's carries then rolls over Adonis for the pin. Adonis hits some nice corner punches and Aron comes back with a clothesline and a belly to belly. Adonis comes back with a nice clothesline then Aldis hits a nice clothesline on Aron as well later.

Latimer snapmares Aron into a 2nd rope elbow from Aldis. Latimer then gut wrenches him for 2 and Aron continues to be beaten down. Kratos is not happy with Aron's progress so far in the match. Aron finally gets some offense in with a leg sweep and a ddt on Latimer. Aron tags out to Pope who beats up on Adonis.

Pope 1v2's Adonis and Thom and double ddt's them. Latimer tries to bring a chair in but Pope steps ons his hand then gets a spinebuster from Adonis. Kratos then sneaks up from behind on Adonis and hits a big lariat. Thom hits a flipping spear on Kratos then Thom and Aron roll to the floor. Aron superkicks Aldis and spinning forearms Thom off the apron.

Kratos blind tags himself in and gets a chair. He goes to use it by Aron stops it then Adonis rolls up Kratos while he yells at Aron. The two then yell at each other to close the show.

This was here to push the Stevens/Kratos feud and that's exactly what they did here.

Overall thoughts: Not a home run or must see episode, but it was an easy watch and built up some future programs. They haven't missed a beat though and do well with the studio wrestling concept.
