Sumo January Hatsu Basho Day 12
Wakakyou vs Takanoyama
Takanoyama got suckered here for the quick win. Waka disengaged him and Takano went down.
Jokoryu vs Sotairyu
Nice sumo from both guys here until Jokoryu slipped up Sotai and sent him out.
Tokitenku vs Takarafuji
They deemed this one too close to call and had to do a replay:
No problem the second time though as Tokitenku takes the win.
Takayasu vs Tochinowaka
Taka's slaps got him the win here in rather easy fashion. Tochino slipped everywhere today.
Baruto vs Toyonoshima
Baruto couldn't put his injured leg down fully but he had enough power to take out Toyonoshima. Baruto's Ozeki hopes are still alive going into Day 13 but he cannot afford to drop a fall. .
Kisenosato vs Kakuryu
Kisen got the win here. He pushed Kakuryu back from the start and took it, along with a fall, with ease. Kisenosato has had a really good tournament after a rough start.
Hakuho vs Kotooshu
WHOA! Don't let the picture fool you, Kotooshu won! Holy crap. Let's take a look at it:
Hakuho was putting Kotooshu down and stepped out in the process. Talk about a break for Kotooshu but this really sucks for Hakuho. He's now 2 losses down on Harumafuji and at the rate we are going, he may have just destroyed his basho.
Kotoshogiku vs Harumafuji
This was a totally embarrassing loss for Kotoshogiku. It didn't go 4 seconds and Harumafuji just dragged him down without a problem. There must be some great conversations going on at beya with Kotooshu and Kotooshgiku.
Rankings:
12-0: Harumafuji
11-1: None
10-2: Hakuho, Kisenosato, Takanoiwa(Juryo) and Takayasu
9-3: Jokoryu(Juryo)
8-4: Kakuryu, Tochinoshin, Tokitenku, Takarafuji and Tochinowaka
7-5: Baruto, Kotooshu, Shotenro, etc.
Overall thoughts: Harumafuji should have this wrapped up by now. He needs to go into day 15 without a loss and the tournament is his, even if Hakuho takes him. Hakuho's tournament is most likely done I'm afraid, but we shall see. Can Baruto hang in there? Stay tuned for tommorow!
