WWE Saturday Night's Main Event XXXIX 5/24/2025

The last SNME is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/01/wwe-saturday-nights-main-event-xxxviii.html

The next SNME is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/07/wwe-saturday-nights-main-event-xl.html

We are in Tampa, Florida. Pat McAfee and Michael Cole are on commentary.

We see various wrestlers arrive. We get like an old school intro on an old TV with some newer stars. We then get the old SNME "Obsession" theme. We then get fireworks in the ring.

Joe Tessitore and Jesse Ventura are at a podium near the stage. They talk about Priest/Drew. Jesse says the object of the cage is to get out of the ring but it will stay in the ring and someone will win it there. Jesse says he doesn't know why anyone would take a cage match as you can come in looking pretty and come out looking ugly.

Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker vs CM Punk and Sami Zayn

They all fight as soon as all 4 are in. Sami lariats Seth over the top. Bron takes a double lariat over the top. The match then officially starts.

Bron lariats Sami from the apron. Sami is thrown out. His head is banged off the commentary table and Bron lariats Sami over the commentary table. We go to break and return. Bron hits corner spears on Sami and Seth hits Sami from the apron.

Bron suplexes Sami for 2 then does push-up's. Bron is back body dropped over the top. Punk gets in and leg lariats Seth. Punk neckbreakers Seth. Punk then hits a code red for 2. Punk step up knees Punk in the corner and hits a lariat + bulldog combo. Punk top rope elbow drops Seth for 2.

Seth pedigrees Punk for 2. Sami pulls Bron over the top. Sami seated moonsaults Bron outside. We go to another break and return.

Punk and Seth trade shots. Punk hits knees to the gut. Seth misses a curb stomp and they double clothesline each other. Sami and Bron get in. Bron boots him in the gut. Sami walks up the buckles and tornado ddt's Bron down.

Punk hits a plancha on Seth outside and Sami exploders Bron into the buckles. Paul Heyman trips Sami. Bronson Reed then returns and bodyblocks Punk through the timekeepers rail. Bron then hits a flying spear on Sami and wins.

Thoughts: The breaks really ate this one up and we didn't see a ton of the match because of it. I liked the little we got, but we didn't get much. Reed coming back was a surprise. I'm not sure why Seth would trust him though since he feuded with Reed in the last year.

Reed gets in the ring after. Him and Bron look like they are going to fight then Seth hugs Reed. Paul is happy then Bron and Reed shake hands. It seems like this groups is now a foursome.

Punk goes after Paul after and Reed sentons his back, crushing Punk. Reed hits a top rope splash on Punk.

The Secret Hervice is interviewed. Green says she was in mourning but now it is night. She says after she beats Vega, she will start her second term as US Women's champ.

Green flips her and Vega hits a backcracker. Vega hits a bad 619. Alba Fyre distracts the ref and Piper pulls Vega down on the top buckle. Vega hits a 2nd rope code red on Green and wins.

Thoughts: I didn't like the powerbomb on the floor meaning nothing here. That's a big spot and should put someone out. Green got her nose busted open here in the finish. I would have rather seen Green win this one over Vega. It was just an average match.

We see Jimmy Hart and Bushwhacker Luke in the crowd.

El Hijo del Vikingo vs Chad Gable is announced for World's Collide. Vikingo is in the crowd.

They announce WWE Evolution for 7/13 which is an all women's show.

John Cena vs R-Truth

Truth comes out to Cena's theme and wears his outfit. Truth has his own picture over Cena's though on the shirt.

Thoughts: It was short but fun with Truth doing all of Cena's moves and getting put down as expected.

Cena hits Truth with the title after.

Jey Uso runs into John Cena in the back. Cena says it's been a long time. Jey says he threw him out in The Tumble the last time he saw him. Cena says he's glad he remembers the last time they saw each other. Cena says he's looking forward to the next time he sees him. Cena says Jey will lose his title to Logan Paul and says that plus him retiring with the title will ruin wrestling. He says good luck and says he will be watching closely.

We see Lelani Kai in the crowd and Tatanka.

Jesse Ventura is on commentary for the next match. We see clips of him in the ring at SNME 1/4/1986. Jesse said no one went to commentary, wrestled and went back to commentary in the same night as him. He said Pat McAfee tried but he lost, while Jesse won.

Steel Cage Match - Drew McIntyre vs Damian Priest

Drew nails DP as he enters. DP is rammed into the rails. Drew brings chairs in. DP forearms him. Drew hits chops. DP lifting flatliners Drew.

DP superkicks him. Drew gouges the eyes. DP facekicks him. DP is sent into the cage. DP is rammed into the cage. We go to break and return. They are on the top rope fighting. DP's head is banged off the cage and he falls down. DP flying kicks Drew. DP hits a south of heaven chokeslam for 2.

Thoughts:
I thought they did too much here with DP taking a superplex while laying on top of the cage and being able to have a normal match after. I'm not a big fan of Drew losing here but they have a heel as champ and just in general a lot of heels on SD, so I'm sure that was the reason why. Jesse didn't have a good night on commentary here and the announcers didn't do that great of a job in protecting him.

Drew is helped up by a bunch of EMT's and officials after. They bring out a stretcher but Drew isn't interested.

Mike Rotunda and Barry Windham are in the crowd in their US Express jackets.

Jesse and Joe are at the podium. Jesse says Bronson Reed will be a force to be reckoned with quick.

WWE World Heavyweight Championship - Jey Uso (c) vs Logan Paul

Jey side headlocks him then shoulders him over. LP leapfrogs and is hit. Jey goes up and over LP in the corner. LP boots him then 2nd rope blockbusters him. LP then kips up. LP plancha's Jey outside. We go to break and return.

Jey corner hip attacks LP for 2. LP blocks a top rope splash and cradles Jey for 2. LP finlay rolls him then Jey gets his knees up on LP's asai moonsault. Jey pop-up samoan drops LP For 2. LP pulls the 2nd rope turnbuckle off. LP is sent out. Jey tries to tope him but is forearmed.

LP tries a buckshot lariat and is superkicked for 2. Jey misses a corner charge and goes into the exposed buckle. LP punches him for 2. Jey superkicks him. Jey hits a top rope splash. John Cena pulls the ref out and attacks Jey. Cena hits mounted shots. Cody Rhodes then returns and goes after Cena. Cody hits punches on Cena then drop down punches him. Cody hits a cross rhodes. LP tries a shot on Cody and misses. Jey hits a spear and a top rope splash on LP and Jey wins.

Thoughts: Like the other matches, it didn't get enough time to be anything too special. The finishing stretch was a nice surprise with Cena coming out then Cody making his return. I didn't love Logan losing here especially since there was interference, which could have saved the loss.

Cody gets on the mic. He says Cena ruined enough. Cody says he's back and ready to fight. Cody says they both have partners and says they will see them at Money in the Bank

Overall thoughts: Like other recent SNME's, the matches were all cut up by breaks and were shorter, affecting their quality. I liked what we got of the opener and we got a happening with Bronson Reed joining Bron Breakker and Seth Rollins. I didn't like the Women's US Title match that much. Cena/Truth was short and fun. I thought they did too much in Drew/Priest as Priest got superplexed from the top of the cage and it didn't mean a whole lot. Jesse Ventura also didn't have the greatest night on commentary. The main was a shorter match and the action was fine, but the run-in's at the end were more interesting. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 overall. They put out a nice card but the card couldn't deliver due to time constraints. They also gave us some big storyline developments here which will affect things going forward. I don't think there was anything must see here. I thought it was an okay show to watch, but it could have been great.
