AEW Collision 5/17/2025 Beach Break

AEW Collision 5/17/2025 Beach Break

Last week's show is here: https://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2025/05/aew-collision-582025.html

We are in Chicago, IL. Tony Schiavone and Nigel McGuinness are on commentary.

Megan Bayne vs Anna Jay

Meg drives her into the corner and htis corner spears. Meg chops her. Anna hits forearms and basement dropkicks her. Anna spin kicks her from the apron. Meg pump kicks Anna off the apron. Penelope Ford then apron moonsaults onto Anna. Anna is thrown into the rails then backdropped on the apron.

Meg bearhugs her then overhead throws her. Meg misses an apron senton. Meg misses a pump kick then takes a side kick and a backcracker. Anna neckbreakers her over the middle rope then pulls her over the top to the floor. Anna crossbodies Meg and Anna from the apron.

Meg hits a falcon arrow in the ring for 2. Anna ddt's her for 2. Anna gets on her back with a sleeper. Ford pulls the top buckle pad off. Harley pulls her out and hits her. They fight up the aisle. Meg is tripped into the buckles and Anna rolls her up for 2.

Meg hits a powerbomb on her then hits an F-5. Meg then wins.

Thoughts: The finish wasn't that good and it went a little longer than it needed to. It was the usual Anna Jay match without any real great logic or heel/face roles where she did the only 5 or 6 moves she knows. Megan won here as expected.

We cut to the commentators and Nigel says he will team with Daniel Garcia against FTR.

Kyle Fletcher vs AR Fox

Kyle running facekicks him from the side to start. Kyle stomps on him in the corner then chops him. AR evades him in the corner. AR leg lariats him. AR does rope tricks and hits a bulldog. Kyle hits a pop-up spinning side effect then struts.

We go to PiP break and return. They fight on the buckles. AR does a seated moonsault off the buckles and ends up hitting a cutter. Kyle sits up top and is enzugiri'd. AR hits an iconoclasm and walks him into a cutter for 2. Kyle hits a half-nelson suplex. AR does his flip into the ropes into a double stomp on the Kyle. He then tope con hilos him.

AR misses a top rope 450 and Kyle michinoku drivers him for 2. Kyle corner facekicks AR. AR cradles him for 2. Kyle facekicks him. AR kips down out of a kick, kips up and enzugiri's him. Kyle leg lariats him twice on the ropes then brainbusters him for the win.

Thoughts: I didn't like this one. They didn't sell a lot. AR had his usual overly complicated offense that just got silly at times here.

Trent Beretta, Rocky Romero and Lance Archer vs Brody King, Tomohiro Ishii and Bandido

Ishii is hit from behind and he forearms RR and Trent. Lance shoulders over Ishii. Lance and Brody trade forearms. Brody facekicks Lance and topes him. Brody chops Lance outside then Lance chokeslams him on the apron.

We go to PiP break and return. Ishii hits forearms on Trent and RR then takes a big boot from Lance. Ishii is laid on the top rope. RR top rope double stomps him then Trent sliding double knees him. Lance chokeslams Ishii for 2.

Lance is pulled over the top rope then Band hits a nice pop-up cutter on RR. RR takes corner attacks from his opponents and is pinned.

Thoughts: I was shocked by how little time this got. I expected double the time here. It wasn't anything too special but they packed as much action as they could into this.

The heels hit the faces from behind after and beat them up. The Outrunners come out and make the save.

Paragon are interviewed. Cole says lots of people want a shot at his title and he likes it that way. The Grizzled Young Vets come in and call them babies. Kyle says he's not a baby and The Vets say they got soft. Strong says he wants to beat their @sses and GYV challenges them for next week. The Vets say Paragon will see they are the best tag team in AEW. Cole says the pressure is on them.

Mike Bailey vs Blake Christian

Blake offers a handshake then licks his hand. Mike does a standing spanish fly from the crossbody. They do counters and Mike kick combo's him with an enzugiri. Mike corner facekicks him. Mike double knee drops him using the ropes. Mike is pulled into the buckles. Blake evades him in the corner and springboard dropkicks him. Blake then topes him under the 2nd buckle. Blake hits like a 450 double foot stomp for 2.

Blake chokes him on the ropes. Blake pumping knees him, takes a facekick then pele kicks him. Blake springboards into a superkick from Mike. They chop each other. Mike stops selling and tells him to bring it. Blake stomps Mike's foot then Mike hits a crane kick.

Mike facekicks him off the apron and triangle moonsaults him outside. Lee Johnson distracts Mike. Blake corkscrew topes Mike outside. Blake misses a 450. Mike hits a top rope hurricanrana and spinning high kicks him for the win.

Thoughts: It was video game wrestling here with lots of kicks and not a lot of selling. They didn't overdo it too much at least. Mike won as expected.

Mike gets on the mic after. Mike says we have some beautiful weather tonight and asks Okada to come out and make it rain with his International Title. Okada comes out. He says, "I prove it, b!tch".

Dralistico and Rush then attack Mike from behind for some reason. Rush headbutts Mike down then stands on his mouth. Rush and Dral then seem to signal that they are aligned with Okada.

Thoughts: This was a random one and it wasn't good.

We get a promo from Mox with Gabe and Shafir after his Dynamite cage match. He says people say he didn't understand the cage match and a title but says it's Joe who doesn't understand. He says he can't be broken and is made of steel or gold. He says complete and total anarchy would be a step up from how everyone is pretending. Mox says Gabe Kidd works for him. He says professionals hold standards and says they are the best at what they do.

Street Fight - The Learning Tree (Big Bill and Bryan Keith) vs The Gates of Agony (Toa Liona and Bishop Kaun)

Keith and the GOA have street fight gear on.Toa hits Bill with a barbed wire bat. Bill hits a big facekick. Kaun hits Bryan with signs and Bill hits Toa with a trash can. Toa hits Bill with the barbed wire bat. Toa is sent into the steps.

Bill hits Kaun with a sign. Bill hits Kaun with a traffic cone and Bryan uses a barbed wire stick on Toa. Bill corner splashes Kaun. Kaun spears BK through a table in the corner. Bill knees and cubs Toa. Toa breaks a pool cue over his own head. The two hit each other with pieces of the pool cue.

They bump chests and trade punches. They shoulder battle. Kaun chokes Bill with some kind of wire you'd find under the sink. Toa catches Bryan's crossbody off the top and slams him onto the apron face first. We go to PiP break. Kaun hits Bill with a trash can in the head. Bryan is sent into the rails.

Bryan hits Toa with the pool cue and Toa hits him with the trash can lid. Toa then chokes him with it. Kaun chokes Bryan with a pool cue. Bryan is put in tree of woe with his head in a can. Toa spears it and Kaun dropkicks it. Toa banzai drops the trash can on his head.

Bill lariats Kaun over the top. Bill pours Bricks out of a bookbag. Bill tries to hit Kaun with a brick against the post and misses. Kaun hits Bill with something. Toa pounces Bill over the commentary table. Toa no sells a trash can lid shot from Bryan. Toa hits Bryan with it. Bryan is sat on the rail, Toa charges at him and is hit with the lid. Toa then crossbodies BK over the rail.

Bill trips Kaun on the apron. Kaun hits Bill with a trash can. Bryan hits Kaun with the trash can. Bryan eye rakes Toa on the apron near tables. Bill facekicks Toa off the apron through 2 tables. Kaun is hit with a piece of drywall. We get a "We Want Drywall" chant.

Bill facekicks Kaun. Bill says, "You want drywall? Here's your drywall!" then chokeslams Kaun for the win.

Thoughts: It was a good one here. Everyone got hit with a bunch of stuff, we got a table spot and the "We Want Drywall" chant was hilarious.

Mina Shirakawa talks about Toni Storm. She says the first they met they were disrupted and said they made mistakes. Mina says they teamed, danced and laughed in Japan. She says it's just them this time. She says she doesn't need her wrath but her title. She says Toni is everything a champ should be but so is Mina. She said she did everything in Japan and wants to do everything here. She says Toni is timeless but Mina is now.

They do a memorial for Steve "Mongo" McMichael who passed away. They have a table with football turf, Mongo's wife Misty and Dean Malenko. His wife talks about being with him. Tony Schiavone talks about Mongo's life. They talk about curing ALS. They then bring out Ric Flair.

Ric says Chicago is one of the greatest wrestling towns of the world. He says to be the man you gotta beat the man and Mongo was more man than anyone else. Ric thanks everyone for celebrating Mongo and we get a "Mongo" chant.

We then go to break and never return. Really. I'm not joking. They had a message that said the show is not airing due to technical issues.

Thoughts: I've never seen this one before. I don't know whose fault this is but this is unacceptable. We lost a Toni Storm match a year or two ago but we literally lost the last thirty minutes of the show here. This does nothing to make AEW look big league.

The show later apparently aired on TNT and HBOMax. Here's the rest of it:

AEW World Tag Team Title #1 Contendership Match - The Sons Of Texas (Dustin Rhodes & Sammy Guevara) vs. CRU (Action Andretti & Lio Rush)

Cru wear their usual weird spike jackets.

DR and AA go at it. DR shoves AA down as he does his taunt. AA and Lio pound on DR. DR drops down and uppercuts AA. AA takes a double suplex then Sammy standing moonsaults AA. DR lariats AA over the top. AA does a corkscrew tope outside. DR teases a dive but does a spinarooni and a pose instead. Cru grab chairs and get hit by the faces. Lio is sent into the rail and DR is sent into the steps. Lio handsprings Sammy off the apron then topes him. AA does a seated springboard moonsault on Sammy.

AA butt drops DR's leg. Lio bangs DR's leg off the mat then bites his head. Lio clips DR from behind. AA wraps DR's leg around the 2nd rope and pulls.

Cru hit a double elbow drop on DR. DR facekicks AA out of the corner thne powerslams Lio. Sammy dives over the buckles onto AA outside. Sammy hits a top rope crossbody on both opponents. Sammy cutters Lio then hits an os cutter for 2.

Sammy misses a 450 off the top. Sammy is held and takes a cutter from AA. Sammy takes shots from both opponents and a double high kick. Sammy takes a double falcon arrow for 2. DR canadian destroyers Lio. Sammy jumping knees AA then hits a GTH on him for the win.

Thoughts: It was long and just not that good. The crowd wasn't that into it, for good reason either. Sammy did a million high flying moves like usual here.

Kris Statlander is interviewed. She sees Willow and yells at her. Willow doesn't believe anything Kris says and complains about her not helping with Shafir. Kris says her hands are clean and Willow says her hands are full. Kris says she knows where to find her when she's done with The Death Riders.

Powerhouse Hobbs vs. Wheeler Yuta

Hobbs is hit while he poses. Yuta slaps him and makes him chase him. Yuta then hits him as he comes in. Yuta pulls Hobbs' throat down over the top and Hobbs shoulders him over. Yuta eye pokes him. Hobbs catches Yuta off the buckles then oklahoma stampede's him. Yuta is thrown over the top.

Yuta is rammed into the post and slammed on the apron several times. Hobbs 2nd rope superplexes him for 2. Hobbs is pulled off the 2nd rope then Yuta dropkicks him in the knee. Yuta stomps his leg as we go to PiP break.

Yuta forearms and stands on the leg. Yuta twists the foot. Yuta dropkicks the leg against the 2nd rope then bangs the leg off the rails. Yuta forearms Hobbs in the back of the leg.

Yuta twists Hobbs' foot. Yuta hits him in the leg from behind then basement dropkicks him. Yuta topes him and sends Hobbs into the rail. Yuta hits a top rope splash for 2. Hobbs hits a big lariat on Yuta. Hobbs powrrslams him.

Hobbs hits corner lariats then a regular one for 2. Hobbs wins with a spinebuster.

Thoughts: I didn't like this at all. Yuta basically beat Hobbs' @ss for 12 minutes here before being put down. I couldn't buy at all that a one-legged Hobbs couldn't beat the crap out of Yuta. They did try to a tell a story with Yuta working Hobbs' leg.

Marina Shafir comes out and pounds on Hobbs' knee. Yuta joins in. Willow comes out and spinebusters Shafir.

Yuta gets beaten up by both Hobbs and Willow and Shafir saves Yuta. We see Kris Statlander on the stage.

Overall thoughts: The show ended for most people about 90 minutes in as the show ended due to technical issues. That's completely unacceptable in 2025 and at AEW's level. It's bush league garbage.

As for the show as a whole, as usual, the stars were not here. There's no reason why either since Collision was taped after Dynamite. Bayne/Anna went longer than it needed to. Kyle/AR was what you would expect. They didn't give the trios match that much time which sucked but it was action packed. Bailey/Black was flippy indy stuff and not for me. We then had a random beatdown of Mike by Rush/Dralistico who now seem to be working with Okada for some reason. The street fight was good and easily the highlight of the night. They had a tribute for Mongo. The #1 contender's tag match went long and wasn't good and I didn't like the main as I couldn't buy Yuta beating Hobbs up. I'd give it a 4 out of 10 as the only thing I really liked was the street fight. And I counted the technical issues, this would be even lower since the show ended 30 minutes early for most people. I wouldn't recommend this.
