WWE Monday Night Raw 12/28/2020

WWE Monday Night Raw 12/28/2020

I did a podcast on the show here:

Brodie Lee got a graphic.

Drew McIntyre came out with his sword and put it into the stage to make flames shoot up.

Drew talked and Sheamus came out. Sheamus said it was their dream to go against each other for the title. Sheamus said he would do so after he beat Keith Lee for a title show tonight.

Lee came out and was mad as Sheamus attacked him last week, after Drew vouched for Sheamus and said he couldn't do anything to Lee. Lee said he will wait to beat up Sheamus until the match starts for unknown reasons. Lee said Sheamus may stab Drew in the back too.  Sheamus said he did it because Lee has a big mouth.

Drew called a ref to come down and gets this started and why not since we saw last week that various stars have booking powers. The question is why they don't put themselves in title matches or other situations where it benefits them. Drew said no matter what happens he will still be the champ next week and Sheamus brogue kicked Lee.

Winner gets a WWE title shot - Sheamus vs Keith Lee

This definitely hurt

Lee throws Sheamus early and gets some shots in. Sheamus pounds on him back and works the shoulder/arm. Lee tries to come back and belly to belly's Sheamus over the top onto the floor, which looked real weak. Sheamus goes up top and does a club/axe handle onto Lee on the floor. We go to break for a while. When we come back Lee tries to gorilla press Sheamus but ends up just forearming him in the face.

Sheamus gets him on the ropes and clubs his chest then tries to jump on him from the top but Lee shoulders him and makes him fly. Lee throws around Sheamus more. Lee hit an embarassingly bad running shoulder. Sheamus runs the ropes and Lee hits a slow crossbody that knocks him down. Lee looks like and is wrestling like a refrigerator right now.

Sheamus hits the celtic cross on Lee for 2. Sheamus slaps Lee in the face and they each headbutt each other's chests. Lee hits a giant ligerbomb for the win. This was just a weird one with the commercial eating up a lot of it, then Lee moving so slow and the finish really kind of being out of nowhere, but they legit beat the crap out of each other here at times and we have to give props to that. Lee then goes over to Drew at the booth and Drew holds up the title at him.

Elias is in the back playing guitar with Ryker.

The Miz with John Morrison vs Gran Metallik with Lince Dorado

Miz came out right Morrison right before the break. Lucha House Party said Miz getting his MITB contract is as useless as his acting career. Gran tried to roll up Miz early. Gran hit a headscissors on Miz to take him to the outside then he walked the top rope and moonsaulted on him. He got him back in and tried to springboard but Miz caught him with a kick. Miz hit a nice yakuza kick thant Gran rolled over backwards for.

Gran ran on the middle rope and dropkicked Miz for the upset win! Miz was shocked here.

Elias was playing again in the back and Omos barged in. AJ said he was talking to someone but couldn't hear over Elias' music playing. He said he wasn't Johnny Cash. Elias said AJ was mad he couldn't win at TLC. AJ said he should face him tonight and break his fingers so he can't play guitar anymore. I didn't like Omos here sizing up Ryker because it made Ryker look small.

Dana Brooke with Mandy Rose vs Shana Baszler

Shana kicked Dana and got slapped. Dana tried a handspring on Shana but Shana put her knees up. Shana whacked Dana's arm off the apron. Shana locked up Dana's arm but Dana got out of it with a chinbreaker. Dana mounted a comeback with a slam. Shana tried her armbreaker move on Mandy on the steps but Mandy mnoved her arm. Dana brought her in and hit a spinning neckbreaker. Dana then went up top and took a knee from Shana before being put in a grounded choke to win it. This was pretty quick and there was only so much that could have been down here. Shana then put Mandy in the grounded choke after the match.

We saw clips of Orton on Alexa's Playground from last week.

Alexa's Playground with Randy Orton

Why is Alexa pretending to be a kid? Why does she know the deal with The Fiend/Wyatt? Why does nobody on the show wonder about any of this? So many questions.

Alexa asks if we like her playground and says The Fiend built it for her. She said she hasn't seen him since the inferno match. She said he loves Hogan but she doesn't know who he prays to. She invited Orton down but Orton didn't come.

We go to Firefly Fun House with Orton showing up. He said he would come in since Alexa and Fiend aren't there. He kicked Huskus and knocked down Abby the Witch. Orton said if Fiend comes back, he will make sure he has nothing left to come back to. He ripped the head off Ramblin Rabbit's head and Alexa challenged Orton in the ring. Orton said he accepts since he thinks this is where Fiend is supposed to return.

We saw clips from 6/22 of Nia attacking Charlotte. Charlotte was interviewed and asked if she was ready. She said Nia is to be feared and is a good competitor but she's betting on herself. Asuka then came out in New Year's gear and said Nia is not ready for Flair.

AJ Styles with Omos vs Elias with Ryker

Elias gets the early edge on AJ with stomps and flips him with a back body drop. Elias wristlocks him then holds him up in the air with the other arm. AJ got pulled off the apron onto Elias' shoulders and he dropped AJ face first on the apron. AJ then got thrown into the post as we go to break.

Back from break and Elias nails a big knee. Elias goes up top and walks the top rope and drops double knees on AJ's shoulders. AJ gets thrown outside hard and Ryker goes for a free shot but Omos stops it and falls down. They are really making Ryker look bad tonight. AJ hits some shots on Elias and does a low flying forearm. Elias hits turnover reverse DDT and goes up top. AJ pele kicks him. Elias comes back with a TKO for 2. AJ hits an enzugiri to the head and hits a springboard forearm for the win. This wasn't anything too special and there was no real story.

We got a clip from Raw Talk last week with Ricochet saying he doesn't want to be involved with Retribution. He says he may have to try something different here.

Ricochet vs Mustafa Ali with Retribution
You know, if I was Ricochet, I would not do this match unless Retribution left. Would anyone?

Ric gets the early edge on Ali, but we all know there's no way he wins this. Rick does a backflip into a headscissors onto Ali then backdrops him. Ali was making a jerk of himself on twitter this weekend. Mia Yim tries to get into the ring then of course the rest of Retribution nails Ric while he is distracted. Ali then does a splash from the top rope onto Ric on the outside which I guarantee hurt him as much as Ric. We went to break and came back with Ali hitting a codebreaker to Ric while he sat on the middle rope. Ali is on all fours behind Ric and Ric moonsaults over him and german's him in a super cool spot.

Ric hits a spinning clothesline that Ali flip bumps for then he hits the kickback. Mace grabs Ali and pulls him right out. The ref does nothing about it, even though that should be a DQ. Retribution then surrounds Ric. He jumps off the middle rope and DDT's T-Bar off the top and tries to fight off Retribution. Again, the ref does absolutely nothing during all of this.

Ric does an SSP, but Ali gets his knees up and Koji Clutch's Ric for the win. This match was totally bogus with the ref might as well not even being there.

Ali invites him to join Retribution. Ric says he will....not join. He codebreaker's Ali and runs.

Shana and Nia are interviewed. Nia says her new years resolutions are to end Charlotte from getting back to the toip, get the tag titles back and enter the Women's Royal Rumble.

Drew McIntyre gets interviewed. He said he is excited for Legend's Night and said he wants to see Lee step up. He says Lee can beat anyone if he wants..so why would he want this one?

Charlotte Flair with Asuka va Nia Jax

Slow start here and Flair mafia kick's Nia in the face, then dropkicks her out of the ring. Nia gets back in and Charlotte lays into her with forearms. They fight outside and Asuka does a uraken onto Shana. Flair tries a figure four but Nia snaps her head back onto the 2nd buckle, then splashes her in the corner.

We come back to Flair chopping Nia. Nia comes back with a sit out powerbomb. Shanna gets on the apron and distracts Charlotte, Asuke stops her. Flair then hits the figure four but Shana comes in and chokes her for the DQ. This wasn't very long and wasn't that great with a crappy finish to boot.

The Hurt business picked on another White person in the back, which again looks real bad, and then scared him off.

Angel Garza was interviewed by Caruso. He said this year had ups and downs. He had a rose and Caruso asked who it was for, then Truth interrupted him as he was being chased. The rose broke into pieces on the floor and gave Caruso the leftovers.

Riddle and Hardy met up with Kofi and Woods. They celebrated Big E winning the IC title on SD. Riddle said their foursome needed a name. He said they should be "The Little Bronies". Woods said it was taken and Riddle said how about, "The Positively Hard Bros". Woods and Kofi then left. Hardy suggested "The Rainbros".

The New Day, Matt Riddle and Jeff Hardy vs The Hurt Business

Kofi and Woods did Hardy's dance. We had like a 4 minute commercial after Hardy's entrance and Riddle had still not entered.

MVP said before they destroy them they would make a business announcement. Lashley declared himself for the Rumble, but shouldn't there be some qualifier or something? Otherwise, why wouldn't everyone enter?

Riddle hits some forearms on Cedric and Cedric blocks his overhead kick before dropkicking him. Riddle tried to leapfrog Lashley but got caught and suplexed. Riddle gets beat on in the corner and him and Shelton trade shots. Hardy jumps off of Riddle's back and splashes Shelton, before all the faces stomp him. They clear all of The Hurt Business out as we go to break.

Back from break and The Hurt Business has taken control on Riddle. Lashley hits a hard spear in the corner on riddle then flatliner's him.  They work on Riddle's leg and Shelton hits a single leg crab on it. Riddle gets thrown out and MVP lays on the ground with him to mock him. Riddle continues to get beaten up with Lashley crossfaces. Riddle comes back with kicks on Cedric and Kofi comes in with a a bunch of moves on Cedric. THB interrupts Kofi's comeback and he dives on Lashley on the outside.

Cedric gets tripped by the legal Woods, then MVP gets thrown out by Woods. Woods goes overtop of Cedric on the ropes to dropkick MVP and Hardy flies onto MVP on the outside. Woods hits a spinning clothesline and Hardy does a swanton on Cedric. Lashley breaks it up. Everyone goes something in and Lashley ends up hitting the full nelson on Hardy for the win. I thought the beatdown on Riddle went too long and the finish felt rushed.

Everyone continues fighting after the bell and the faces escape.

Miz and Morrison are talking on steps in the back but the sound is totally off. A lawyer or someone returns the MITB briefcase to Miz saying Morrison indeed had no power to cash in.  Miz and Morrison celebrated and danced.

The last segment here is Bliss' challenge to Orton. What exactly this means, nobody knows.

Alexa Bliss comes out to her usual music, which she probably shouldn't be doing. Orton comes out and wants to know where The Fiend is. Bliss says this isn't about him but is about her. She brings a gift for Orton. Inside the gift is matches and gasoline.

Bliss challenges Orton to burn her like Fiend. She pours gasoline in the ring and tells him to light the match. She says Orton doesn't have the guts and calls him a little b*tch. She then pours the gasoline all over herself. Orton says "you think that I won't do it?".

Orton says he wants to do it but knows Bliss wants him to do it. As he says "maybe I'll set you on fire right now", the lights start to go out. Orton lights a match and is about to drop it but we fade to black as Orton smiles. Great, another bogus ending.

Overall thoughts: Not a good Raw. The final segment didn't really go anywhere and the rest of the show wasn't real great either. Tons of moments too that made no sense at all.
