Continental Championship Wrestling Surge 5/17/2024

We see clips of Kevin Kantrell vs CJ Lionheart from last week. 

Odin is the bald one, Brian is in the gold and black, Aiden is in the vest and sunglasses and Miles is in the pants and jacket

The Diamond Exchange come out. Brian Blitz complains about not being mentioned. He says they are the greatest faction in CCW history. He says the belts they have aren't going anywhere.

Odin Davenport says he has gold around his shoulder and says no one can take it from him. Aiden Johnson they are the big 3 in CCW. Miles Blackwell talks. He says none of them have backed down from a fight and says they put the work in everyday. He says they aren't going anywhere except through the glass ceiling.

Shooter McGee vs Prince Cito

 

McGee has Chris Turner and a female with him who may be named May. They lock up. McGee site headlocks him then is wristlocked. Cito gets out and reverses it on him. Cito side headlock takeovers him.

Cito does another side headlock takeover. McGee side headlocks him then shoulders him over. McGee is armdragged and armlocked. Cito dropkicks him for 2. McGee hits a nice punch and elbows him in the back of the neck. McGee hits him in the gut several times.

McGee snapmares him and elbows him in the head. Cito rolls him up for 2. Cito lariats him then suplexes him. McGee hits a nice lariat then knees him in the gut several times. Cito boots him off the ropes and step up enzugiri's him for 2.

Cito is thrown out and Chris Turner stomps him. May slaps Cito. McGee 2nd rope elbows Cito in the head and Cito does a big bump for it. Cito spinning lariats him then hits a flying forearm for the win.

Thoughts: It was an average match. McGee has a really interesting build to him as he's a smaller guy but he's super bulky. He has a simple offense you'd see in like 1990's Memphis but it looks fine. Cito was the face here. They didn't get a ton of time and didn't do anything too crazy.

 

We get a video with a redacted "FBI" video on Frankie Morris. Morris is outside in the woods and says he's somewhere he shouldn't be, training in the woods. He says he's on week 4 of his expedition trying to find himself. He says the crowd looked up to him and now he's a joke. He says he's reclaiming his name as Frankie Morris. He says he is slowly losing his mind. He says he doesn't know if he will make it back. 

We then end the show.

Overall thoughts: It's a small indy show so I'm not going to be too hard on it. We only got one new match here. It was average and nothing was wrong with it. We got one other segment as well. You don't really need to go see it.

They have a graphic that says a man travels around the world to find out what he needs and returns home to find it. The graphic then says that Landon Crews is coming home.

Kevin Kantrell vs CJ Lionheart

 

This is CJ Lionheart's debut. Kevin is the CCW champ. They lock up and Kevin wristlocks him. Kevin armlocks him and yanks the arm. Kevin waistlock takedowns him. CJ front facelocks him on the mat then Kevin pulls the hair. Kevin throws CJ so hard into the buckles that he falls over.

Kevin chops CJ then corner lariats him. Kevin hits chops and corner spears. CJ hits high kicks then Kevin germans him. CJ clubs his back and hits chops. Kevin then flurries on him with clubs and stomps. Kevin suplexes him for 2.

CJ is put up top and chopped. Kevin argues with the ref and CJ tries to lariat him off the 2nd rope but slips. CJ dropkicks him then flying lariats him. CJ sliding lariats him for 2. Kevin blue thunder bombs him for 2. Kevin snapmares him, misses a boot and is rolled up. CJ superkicks him and running knees him for 2.

CJ chops Kevin hard in the back then hits forearms to the back of the neck. Kevin perfectplexes him and gets the win.

Thoughts: It was an underdog vs favorite match here with a rookie taking on the champ. I don't know if this was CJ's actual debut or just his CCW debut here. He didn't do bad though. He showed some force in his moves and did a decent job as a fiery face. He did sadly miss his one big spot here though. Kevin played the vet role and beat him up good. A few minutes could have been cut off from it but it wasn't a bad effort.

Overall thoughts: There was only one match here. It was fine as a underdog vs vet debut match but wasn't must see.

Demarcus Green vs Isaac Cross

They lock up and Cross throws him. Cross throws him into the corner then Green side headlocks him. Cross shoulders him over and stomps on him. Green hits dropkicks then step up enzugiri's him. Green springboards and is caught in the air with a lariat.

Cross stomps on him then slams him twice. Cross elbow drops him. Green hits shots to the gut then is clubbed. Cross clubs on him then torture racks him. Green trips to sunset flip him out of it. Cross suplexes him twice.

Cross hits corner spears then drops him with a punch. Cross corner lariats Green then Green enzugiri's him in the corner. Green hits a flying back elbow and snapmares him. Green kicks him in the chest and asai moonsaults him for 2. Green tries to springboard but is caught. Cross guillotines him then spins him with the guillotine. Cross won't let go of the hold and the ref disqualifies Cross. Cross then ddt's Green.

Thoughts: It was a one-sided match here with Cross getting in almost all off the offense. Green's little offense he did get in looked good though. Cross has a great look but needs to work on making his stomps a bit more lethal looking.

Prince Cito does a promo. He says he's been here a year and said he has faced many challenges. He said Cody Knight didn't stop him and he pinned him straight in the ring. He said he did everything he said he would do. He said the heights are bigger than ever in his 2nd year and he will continue to conquer every challenge put in his way for the fans at home.

Alexander Pressley vs Dusty Williams

They lock up. Alex side headlocks him then bangs Dusty's arm off his shoulder. Alex hammerlocks him and calls him worthless. Dusty elbows him in the gut then Alex shoulders him over. Dusty hits something like a jumping face kick then Dusty running back elbows him. Alex foot chokes him in the corner and running back elbows him.

Alex hits boots to the gut then lariats him. Alex back elbows him for 2. Alex hits another running back elbow then hits more back elbows. Dusty goes up and over then falcon arrows him for 2. Dusty misses a senton and is stomped for it. Alex hits back elbows then lariats him. Alex atomic drops him then running lariats him for 2.

Dusty hits a spear then a druid comes out with some kind of hourglass. Alex back elbows Dusty then jumping flatliners him. Alex then wins it.

Thoughts: It was a very one sided match here. Alex really spammed the back elbow a lot here. I don't know what Dusty's gimmick is but he wrestles with nerdy glasses.  We'll have to see what the hourglass thing was about.

Overall thoughts: Only 2 new matches here as usual and a promo. Both were rather one sided affairs and not worth seeing.

Bryce Maddox says he's been trying to come back and says The Diamond Exchange have been targeting him. He thought Odin Davenport was his friend but he turned his back on him. He said he's by himself and back where he started. He said Odin thought he'd close the case by cashing in the bounty. He says the target isn't on his back, it's on Odin's. 

We see Alexander Pressley get speared and pinned by Dusty Williams last week. Myles then beats up on him after for it. 

"Showtime" Aiden Johnson vs Brick Bronson

AJ = Aiden Johnson

Brick wristlocks him. AJ rolls forward and backwards then wristlocks him. Brick waistlock takedowns him then headlock takeovers him. AJ punches him in the gut and shoulders him over. Brick hits a nice hiptoss then armdrags him. AJ then goes out to stall.

AJ knees him in the gut then clubs on him. AJ hits corner spears. AJ boots him in the gut and hits a punch into a spinning lariat. AJ slams him then hits elbow drops. Brick hits some punches then hits a sky high. Brick slamd and legdrops him for 2.

Brick side headlocks him then AJ eye rakes him and hits punches. AJ lariats him then samoan drops him for 2. AJ yells at the crowd. Brick hits a nice lariat then dropkicks him. AJ is thrown out to the floor. AJ gets on the apron and pulls Brick's throat down on it. Brick death valley drivers him for the win.

Thoughts: It was a decent match here. AJ did some heeling here and Brick made his comeback and won it. All of their offense looked fine and they didn't have any botches or anything.

Jimmy Rosendorf talks. Alexander Pressley then interrupts. He said everyone he has a match won, nobody sees it. He said he's been thrown into the dumpster like trash. He says he refuses to be treated like this. He says he will find his way and has an idea that we will see soon enough.

Cody Knight vs Brien Adam

Kevin Kantrell is at ringside and holds his title up at Brien. They exchange words. Brien really does resemble LA Knight. Brien is backed up in the corner. Kantrell is on commentary and mocks Brien's deceased father and says he never held the world title there. He says he will choke him with the headband if he wears it out there.

Brien armlocks him and takes him down. Brien kneedrops the arm then armdrags him. Brien armdrags him into another armlock. Cody hits big chops in the corner then Cody lariats him. Cody's manager Chris Turner chokes Brien over the middle rope. Cody stands on Brien.

Brien hits a boot to the gut then legdrops him over the neck. Brien goes up top and Kantrell asks if his dad is watching. Kantrell says his dad is dead and will never see him wear the title. Brien tells him to shut up then is facekicked by Cody. Cody full-nelson slams Brien and wins it. Kantrell then says "on a positive note, his dad didn't see that". He then says his job is done.

Thoughts: It was a slower match here. Brien didn't get a ton in. Kantrell was a real jerk here. Cody had a nice lariat and big boot and maybe has potential to do something if he can work on his look a little.

Overall thoughts: There were only two matches here. Both were fine though not must see. I wouldn't recommend it but it wasn't a bad effort.

We see clips from last week's show with Cody Knight picking up a win over Brien Adam.

"The Thoroughbred" Havac vs Julius Jones

This is Jones' CCW debut. Havac poses and they lock up. Jones is thrown into the corner and Havac poses more. They lock up again and Havac is backed up into the corner. Havac side headlocks him and shoulders him over. Jones hiptosses him then armdrags him. Jones powerslams him for 2.

Havac eye rakes him then hits a spear. Havac then gets the win.

Thoughts: It was just a quick one here with Jones going down to a spear. Havac did a lot of posing here and this didn't go more than 2 minutes. Not a great way to debut someone new here.

"The Authentic One" Brien Adam does a promo over looking the city. He asks why another wrestler named Kevin Kantrell defaced his headband. He says he has to defend his family and his father's honor. He said you either stand for something or fall for nothing. He says he will stand tall and strong and will stand the victor at the end. 

Odin Davenport vs "The Ice Man" Luke Frost

 

They lock up. Odin side headlocks him and wristlocks him. Odin turns it into a hammerlock then side headlock. Luke side headlocks and wristlocks him. Luke side headlock takeovers him and they stand off. Odin wristlocks him then Luke wristlocks him. Odin uses the ropes to flip out of it then shoulders Luke's arm. Luke's arm is banged off of Odin's shoulder.

Luke armdrags him and armlocks him then Odin armdrags him. Odin side headlocks him then shoulders him over. Luke hits flying double chops and slingblades him for 2. Luke misses a corner charge and takes a release german for 2. Odin suplexes him and armdrags him. Luke hits shots to the gut then Odin handspring backelbows him with a kip-up. Odin jumping legdrops him.

Odin sleepers him then 2nd rope elbow drops him for 2. Odin armlocks him. Luke superkicks him then Odin atomic drops him. Odin stands on Luke's neck, headbutts him and paintbrush slaps him.  

Odin hits punches in the corner then Luke superman forearms him three times. Luke pulls him down by the arm like a bulldog for 2. Luke hits another bulldog style move for 2. Odin hits a backbreaker and a world's strongest slam for 2. Odin nails Luke with a weapon and is disqualified.

Odin beats up on Luke after. A brawl breaks out with people coming to help both guys. Luke and his partner end up getting beaten down. The Machine then come out and clears off Odin's Diamond Exchange crew.

Thoughts: It was a mostly one-sided match with Odin in control for most of it. It was an average but Odin's offense looked fine and safe.

Overall thoughts: Only 2 matches here with a promo in between. The opener was a squash and the main was a longer more one-sided match that was fine. The announcing was good but I wouldn't recommend this one.

"Welcome to Contiental Championship Wrestling, home of the National Wrestling Alliance, featuring champions from around the Continental United States. And now, to your host, world-renowned wrestling commentator, Gordon Solie."

"We told you last week of course that the NWA World Heavyweight Champion would be here to wrestle and defend his title here on Continental Championship Wrestling. Well guess what, he will not be here." - Solie

We got a video from Ric Flair:

"That's right Bob Armstrong, I proved without a shadow of a doubt that you are The Bullet and there is no way Ric Flair has to wrestle Bob Armstrong. There is no way that he has to wrestle The Bullet. You have had your last shot at the title. And by the way Bobby, Thanks for the $20,000." - Ric Flair

Ron Fuller was called out to watch this and he asked why. Solie told him that a suitable replacement would be needed. Ron said, "go ahead, pick anybody, I don't care". Solie then announced that Ron Fuller had been selected to fight Bob Armstrong:

"Nooooooo"

"I'm not in any shape to wrestle. I don't have my stuff here." "They can't make me compete."

"I saw you wrestle last week. You are in condition to wrestle and I saw you bring your gear off the airplane last night." - Solie

Solie was so awesome in this as the grandfather making his grandson do something he didn't want to.

"If you know anything about wrestling, you know this is one of the best right here." - Rob Fuller on Mr. Wrestling 2

He teased having Mr. Wrestling 2 as his mystery partner against the Rich's for the tag titles in Pensacola.

Ron Fuller vs The Bullet

Rob Fuller tries to unmask the Bullet...

...and Brad Armstrong makes the save!

Then Jimmy Golden comes out

and even more people come out!

The Stud's get the mask then Solie says, "Let's go to black, let's cut away." and it's not shown. The mystery of the Bullet lives on.

"Woo! We got it! Everybody knows it's Bob Armstrong!" - Ron
"I'm sorry but at that moment, we had a technical problem." - Solie

"WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAT WHAAAAAT" - Rob
"Unless someone happened to have had a camera and snapped a picture, nobody saw it." - Solie

"Well, you heard it. They had a technical problem. Nobody sees nothin!" - Mike Jackson
"Hallelujah! I told you before, somebody up there likes me. But now it's all erased with a big eraser because it don't count!" - Bullet
"I don't care who it is, you The Tennesee Stud or anyone in your stable, sign a loser leaves town match and it'll be bye bye bye to all you jack@$$e$." - Bullett

"We found out what happened to the tape. YOU messed with the tape. Show him." - Ron
"Let me have him boss, I want him." - Boomer Lynch
"You want it?" - Ron, "I want it." - Boomer
"You got it. Boomer's gonna run you out of here, boy." - Ron

"I've been all over the world. I've taken off the masks of many people and I intend to see this Bullet. I think he's Bob Armstrong personally."
"Bob, are you ashamed of yourself? Are you bald or something?"
"You haven't seen the last of me and that's not a threat, that's a promise." - Mr. Wrestling 2

"I apologize. It seems no one got to see who the Bullet was."
"That's right, it's a good thing, haha." - Johnny Rich

Then they went over their title victory over the Nightmares. Sometime before this point, the Nightmares got unmasked and they reverted to painting their faces.

The Stud Stable then came out and Solie announced some changes to their match:

"Alright, so it's a Loser Leave." - Solie
"That's alright, that's the only match on the new card I like." - Boomer

"Brad Armstrong, you're about the epitome of low-class that I have ever seen. If you think your beach bum tail is gonna win the title, you can forget it punk. I'LL TEAR YOUR HEAD OFF FIRST." - Rob

Alabama Heavyweight Title - Roberto Soto vs Jerry Stubbs

Mr. Perfect, Jerry Stubbs (he beat Curt Henning by about 3 years)

The finish

Stubbs won this one after a Soto missed headscissors. The chain wrestling they did was good but it was too dark most of the time to get a decent picture. This one was so-so, but I think others would enjoy it more. Rating:*

Gordon then replayed the blackout clip and said, "I'm sure Bob Arms...oops, I mean the Bullet." Way to keep kayfabe Gordon!

We then skipped to another tape:

The Wild Bunch (Mike Golden, Johnathan Boyd and Dr. Tom Prichard) vs Shawn Michaels, Marty Jannetty and Nightmare Danny Davis

Dr. Tom refuses to salute and hold the flag

Um, uh...

Some miscommunication going on there...

"Sort of a rear-on headlock or a rear-rear headlock if you will." - Solie

"Well, we've got a melee going on here." - Solie

"Boyd's loading up" - Solie



Another arguement after Boyd accidently hits Tom with the weapon and juices him

"Tom Prichard is covered in crimson, no doubt about that." - Solie

Shawn Michaels wins it with the flying body press and Boyd trips over Tom on the way down.

Prichard and Boyd finally have it out and Mike Golden chooses Boyd's side (good choice, IMO)

Pretty good match and angle here. I was really surprised to see The Rockers in Continental and I'd be up for it again. Dr. Tom was pretty good here too. Rating:*

We then got a contract signing with the Stud Stable to announce Robert Fuller as the new Tennessee Stud:

"I'd just like to say that this is one of the finest moments in my life." - Jimmy Golden

"His Brother Ron Fuller, his organization was trash." - Jimmy Golden

Jimmy Golden, Jerry West, Dutch Mantel, Robert Fuller, Wendell Cooley and Gordon Solie

"I can only go back to the days of King George when there was an abdication of the throne. We have seen the abdication of the throne with the old Tennessee Stud." - Solie
"The people have come to me now and asked that I represent that name: Tennessee for the state of Tennessee." - Rob Fuller

"To the finest organization in professional wrestling, Gentlemen, let's knock 'em dead." - Robert Fuller

"You know, I'm so tired. Everytime we go up and down the road, Prichard was there, arguing with Boyd's decisions." - Golden
"Prichard, I tried to make you into a champion, now I'll make you into hamburger." - Boyd
"You have been disqualified from the Wild Bunch and now you are just yankee beef for us to beat." - Boyd

Overall thoughts: Really good disk. I loved seeing the Rockers and the Stud Stable signing ceremony was just awesome. I also loved the blackout situation with the Bullet getting unmasked. This was a great disk and I highly recommend it.
